This week The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time we're trading our way to the Biggoron Sword, and taking on the challenges of Ganon's Castle to take on the King of Evil himself.
Legendary Adventures is a Legend of Zelda playthrough podcast. I’m exploring the evolution of the Zelda game series by playing through each game in release order, excluding spin-offs and multi-player focused releases. Each season focuses on one game in the series. Legendary Adventures was conceived and launched as an audio podcast. I am making video versions of episodes as I am able. You can listen to all my episodes by subscribing to the podcast.

Great video as always Paul! You are spot on about how the Forest and Water barrier rooms don't really match their respective temples. It's because during OoT's development, the temple elements were originally Wind(Forest) and Ice(Water). It's why the Forest medallion looks like a whirlwind or fan and the water medallion looks like a snowflake. The same symbol for ice can be seen even by Kotake when she rises up in the twinrova scene. These names were changed toward the very end of development. There is even unused text for the medallions as items "風のメダル"(Wind Medallion) and "氷のメダル"(Ice Medallion) leftover in the final retail version of the game. The 3DS remake however had something interesting since it was built upon OoT's N64 source code. It had a lot of the original internal file names, this included the rooms in Ganon's castle which are named "ganontika_kaze"(Ganon's Basement - Wind) and "ganontika_kori"(Ganon's Basement - Ice).

Zelda really did Link dirty at the end of OoT. He might have started as a child, but she sent a warrior back in time to live in a child's body, in a world that never would know of his sacrifice

This entire series is underrated and should be more widely viewed. I’m throwing a comment and like into the faerie fountain.

16:30: Oh sweet, you can still see Bowser and Luigi in this shot! Makes sense, since Miyamoto wanted all the cutscenes to be made in-engine.

Fun fact: in the Fire Temple room, you can use the hover boots on the sinking platform and it will not sink! I remember never take taking off the boots one play through and I was shocked when it didn’t sink lol

What perfect timing, 20 mins ago I just finished my 100% playthrough. If anyone knows this game a little too well try out Ship of Harkanian with the difficulty options (I did enemies move x2 fast, more aggressive, and x4 damage) you'll be using items you may not have before (Nayru's Love haha). It also makes Ganondorf and Ganon legitimately hard. Great series Paul, looking forward to your next episode!

The music when the bridge to Gannons Castle is opened by the sages is very similar to Link To The Past title screen music.

One thing you didn't mention during the Trading Quest: if you use a warp song during any of the timed portions of the quest, you IMMEDIATELY run out of time and have to redo that section

As far as big, bold adventures go, this game was the third one that I remember beating and feeling like it was a Big Damn Deal. The previous ones being Secret of Mana and, funnily enough, A Link To The Past. A massive adventure that brought me from childhood to fully grown... well, Link is actually a teenager still so scratch that, BUT he was at least older than I was at the time so it FELT like he was all grown-up. The point being that it was a journey that took me across the ages and really felt like a grand adventure, and so I still remember so much of it to this day. The music during the "rainbow bridge" scene (although I do like the 3DS remakes look better), the growing sound of Ganon's organ-playing as you climbed up the tower, and then a REAL treat for someone who knew Ganondorf when he was Ganon from the end of Link to the Past... that final boss-fight. That dramatic, thunder-lit transformation. To this day, a collection of scenes that helped write the book on how video games create drama, swear by it.
And also the trading sequence- which I guess were also formative but mostly in the way it stressed me out having perishable ingredients and trying desperately to get to where I needed to go in the right amount of time, though I seem to remember that teleporting spoils them? And that you could bring Ganon down with the Biggorons sword... maybe my memory is playing tricks on me here. In that regards I feel like I'm learning a lot from this video despite having played the game so many times- I hadn't even seen someone run out of magic for instance, I could also swear that you could get magic refills from the pots below, but I guess not? Also didn't know that each challenge is meant to reflect the dungeons they came from or that Forest was first meant to be "Wind".Though you'd think they'd have enough time to change back, it's almost like they designed the final dungeon first and didn't have time to change back once they had made all the other stuff...
But most memorably of all is how this game ISN'T an unambiguously happy ending. Those who remain in the timeline where Ganon is defeated rejoice at their freedom and mourn those they've lost, and Link has to say goodbye to Navi for reasons never explained and still goes back to a Zelda that doesn't remember him to do what a hero must. It's an ending that does not put a neat bow on everything and lingers in the mind... lingers as it leads to an even darker adventure, next time around.

I think you're right about trading sequence items spoiling if you fast travel. I was going to fast travel with the frog, but thought better of it before finishing the song. Something told me it would spoil if I did. I don't know if it's past experience or just a hunch though.
With the pots in the Ganondorf fight I either got bad RNG or didn't get any because I broke a few on my way through and some magic refills appeared. Not sure which, but I did break a few while passing through.

And thus ends one of my all-time favorite games! I cannot say how amazing this game was to my little young mind. Link's Awakening is still probably my favorite, simply because ALttP was such a great game, and seeing those very same graphics on my GameBoy was insane at the time. Plus, it is just an all-around great game!

I remember beating OoT when It came out and I was 8 or 9. All the hype and amazement was crushed by finding out the game doesn't save after you beat Gannon. For whatever reason my young mind thought I should be able to pick up the game and keep living the now young links adventure, realizing that save file stays and puts you right before the final fight was DEVISTATING. Now I look back and laugh at the naivety of young me, but legit I wanted the next day of school of because it was so distressful. Probably taught me to move on from things as I was in class the next day.

If I recall correctly, there are two sets of pots on the floor of the Ganondorf boss room, with the other set having magic meter refills.

Everything in Ganondorf's battle room is Hookshotable.
I feel like they should have advertised that better and given you a one-time ultra-longshot to really make it crazy.
Maybe someone should make a mod of that. 🤔

There is a hidden interaction with the Boggoron's Sword that I did not hear mentioned.
If you take the sword to the Lost Woods as an adult and go left to the dancing skullkid who attaks you, if you defeat him with the Boggoron's Sword and he will drop a gold/orange ruppee. This is repeatable.

Ever since BrainScratch Commentaries' LP of Ocarina of Time, I always get the Biggoron Sword before stepping foot into the Forest Temple. The Stalfos were significantly easier to deal with after that. Before then, I wouldn't get the sword until right before entering the Water Temple.
