    Super helpful. Thanks. Just got my gravity gold matte Limited 2 days ago and you’re right, it’s stunning. Also got the light interior for the reasons you mention. Was hesitant about the matte paint but love the look and your video has made me confident I’ll be able to manage it.

    I was given the option of Gravity gold with the Grey interior (UK.) and could have had it within a week. I was so tempted but just couldn't go for it. I love the look but just don't want to take the risk.
    Went for top spec cyber grey with grey interior instead. wasn't impressed when I saw the colour in brochures but absolutely love it in person, and again can have it within a week.

    I have had my steel matte gray GT line EV6 for 8 months and take it through a no touch car wash with just soap and water. They only use high pressure water no brushes though. I use beasleys matte sealant after the wash, I apply it while the car is still wet and the car looks amazing. I havnt had any issues with the paint other than a rock chip on the hood because I only drive at high speeds on the highway. But at the end of the day it’s a car and will have some wear after everyday use. My next vehicle if I have the option will be a matte paint car again. Looks amazing. Oh and I live in NY. So bad winters with salt here too.

      Awesome to hear your experience has been great with your steel gray EV6. I that exact spec parked next to me a few days after I bought my Ioniq 5 and it looks crazy awesome too.

      Thanks for the encouragement, much appreciated! Haha I'm really maxing out how much content I can make while still working a full time job and having a family. But hey maybe one day I can turn this into a full time job, would love to do that.
      Totally with you on the EV9, I have a deposit down for the small battery R1S since it could qualify for federal tax credit but from a range standpoint I don't think it'll make sense. Will probably struggle to break 200 miles. Really really hope Hyundai Kia Genesis manufacturer in the US asap.
      I was similar to you, outside of renting a model 3 and test driving a polestar 2 I pretty much jumped into the ioniq 5 without knowing anything about EVs. Looks like we both are happy owners :)

    Good to know that it can be taken thru a auto car wash. If the Gravity Gold here in the states was available with the brown/tan interior like in overseas, I would get it and take a chance with the car washes, but it comes only with black or white seats. I ordered a Digital Teal with white seats, but have to admit the Shooting Star matte one looks sweet.

    I had a perfectly adequate 2016 Chevy volt plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, 50 miles per charge and 40 miles per gallon there after. I was charging it every day and discharging it every day and never saw any degradation, 60,000 all electric miles and six years. A friend and I were checking out the Milford Connecticut Tesla service center and there was a Kia and a Hyundai dealer nearby and we just happened to stop by to see what electric cars they had available. The price of cars was going crazy and the price of used cars was going insane and the chip shortage problem was at a pinnacle and the supply chain issues were horrible.
    I bought a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL RWD In January 2022 here in Connecticut. They tried to mark up the MSRP of $48,000 by $4000 dollars and I walked and they sold it to me at MSRP.
    I would not have bought it without the $7500 federal income tax credit and I’m so mad at that part of the inflation reduction act that made 70% of all available Evies immediately disqualified from getting the $7500 federal income tax credit. You want to reduce pollution but you do this??????
    I had done my research on the car……. it had perfect range and the fastest charging ability in the world today. I was doing my research in December 2021 and early January 2022 and I believe it got world car the year by then……
    When I saw the shooting star matte finish, I fell in love immediately. I’m not sure if I realized that I had to hand wash my car for the rest of my life. I never owned a matte finish in my life.
    I had no idea the worst mistake Hyundai made was not putting in a rear windshield wiper.
    I’ve put over 17,000 miles on my car in nine months and I pretty much love everything about the car.
    I started out gung ho about washing it in the driveway by hand and did a little research trying to figure out if I could find a touchless car wash but my thought was then and now, until I saw your video, no automatic washing. I guess I’ve hand washed the car 10 times. I am 61 years old and retired and was easily able to find the time to wash and dry it in my driveway. I have gone through almost the whole bottle of Mrs. Beasley’s car wash solution for matte finish cars…….
    I am so glad for your video because I don’t think I’m ever going to hand wash it again!!!!!!!!
    The car is filthy and we have about seven days of no rain coming up, I will be off to the car wash tomorrow.

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah we bought our cars around the same time then, got the tax credit and all! It really is a shame how so many EVs were eliminated overnight from tax credit eligibility.
      Make sure you choose the soap and water option only and let me know how it goes! Best of luck!

    • @JohnCap523
      @JohnCap523 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tax credit is first and foremost about bringing EV and battery manufacturing to the US. Later is time to push reluctant buyers. It’s already brought almost a dozen new factories and many thousands of mew good paying jobs. That’s the point.
      And you don’t need a rear wiper.

    I have a gravity gold matte Ioniq 5 since 10 months and I do really like the color. The dealer told me to use textile car wash without wax but up to now I washed it only by hand.
    My only problem with the paint is that some idiot put intentionally a 20 cm scratch to the side after one week (maybe I mentioned it in an older post). No spot repair possible so either spent 800-1000 € for a new door paint or live with it for 4 years of leasing. So I will see what they bill at leasing end.
    Fun fact: With the car I got a high gloss finish sealer in a 1L bin 😂

    YMMV based on the car wash and how well they maintain their brushes and how good of a job they do getting dirt off the car before it goes into the wash. If the wash is well maintained and attentive to details, then you won’t have any issues, but unfortunately most car washes don’t and that’s when problems start happening,
    Personally I would never take a matte car through an automatic wash that was brushes, also some of the car washes use very aggressive chemicals and that could become an issue after a while.
    For me, matte looks awesome, but too much of a headache. I have a BMW X3M fully ppf and I hand wash the car.

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally understandable, definitely took a risk when I bought matte knowing I had to take it through car washes.
      Hyundai's matte paint has held up well though, I think the satin finish is what's helped. Not true matte but gives off the illusion of being matte while retaining some gloss finish protection.

  • @jimji2774
    @jimji2774 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great information. So what would a good ceramic coating do for the matte/satin paint ? I have heard some of them are a total scam by dealers but others might actually offer protection. Can anyone tell me about that ?

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many owners are getting PPF done which helps protect the paint. For me I couldn't quite justify the cost of it but I think it's a wise choice for someone planning to hold the car long term.
      I'd probably stay away from any dealer applied PPF/ceramic coating, I've heard many complaints that it wasn't done right or was done cheaply there. Sometimes the dealers force it as a paid on, I'd try to steer clear of that as well and get it done from somewhere with good reviews/good reputation.

    No picture or video evidence of the condition of the paint? You're saying auto car wash with brushes dont make swirls and small scratches? Also, the potential consequences of damage repair or a substantial scratch repair is worth a mention. Great channel keep it up

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All the photos and videos in there are from just the other day, to my eye I can't find anything wrong.
      I'm sure a professional detailer might find something but that would be the same case with going through the wash with normal wax paint. Detailers don't recommend going through the carwash period.
      I haven't had to do any paint repairs to date so can't speak from personal experience. I've talked to my local body shop and checked the forums, a good shop shouldn't have any issues making it look like new. A bad shop will have the same issues even if it had a wax finish.

    You must know that any Matte finish car will require special handling when washing the car. It will NEVER see the inside of a car wash unless they hand wash the car AND they have past experience in washing Matte finished cars. I bought an Merceds SL550 and had the entire front of the car clear wrapped. It cost about $2200. I highly recommend these finishes to anyone that is OCD or just plane neurotic. You will need to be since if you like your car in primo condition and be a real head-turner, you will need to be able to periodically wash the car with special soap and cloths. There is a spray can that is for matte finished cars for in between washes. I use it before heading out and helps to maintain the areas that hasn't been wrapped. Bottom line is: Never go to a car wash unless you know they can properly handle matte paints and never use sponges to wash your car since they may have debris in them that will scratch the paint. If that happens you will have a real rude awaking financially speaking.

    What would you feel safe using to spot clean bird poop? A clorox wipe? Just a wet paper towel?

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have the matte paint option, it comes with a matte paint cleaning kit which has a spray specifically for that, then I use a wet wipe or damp paper towel.
      If you don't have the cleaning kit, there are specific bird poop sprays that will loosen things up if it's already hardened.
      Otherwise, if it'll hose off or wet wipe off that's usually my first thing to try.

    looks like its becoming less matte and more gloss which is what the wax in the standard soap will do. fine if you are ok with it but works against the purpose of a matte finish

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to capture accurately but it definitely looks the same. It had a glossy finish to it the day I bought it but you only catch that at certain angles (for example the hood). Every matte finish ioniq 5 owner says the same thing, that the finish is actually glossy.
      I think Hyundai designed this well, they didn't do true matte but used the angles and lines to make it look more matte than it really is.
      I guess the true test would be for me to line my car up next to another matte car that hasn't gone through any car washes. But I haven't seen another matte car in the wild since I bought mine 9 months ago haha

    • @donaldoarmand212
      @donaldoarmand212 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarsJubilee the finish although called matte, is actually -- satin. As an owner of the shooting star grey myself and having seen many others, I can state that it is clearly not glossy at all. In fact when people see it they comment on the finish. It is distinctly not gloss.

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya I agree about the satin feel but it's deceptively reflective. Take a look at your hood staying eye level to it and let me know if you start see some reflections if you try to see it at an upward angle. If I catch it at the right angle it definitely reflects which is why I call it a little glossy.
      It's done that since the day I bought it, specifically the hood panel. I can't find an angle on the doors or any other panel but on the hood it definitely has some reflective properties. Maybe because it is convex?
      I could be wrong though, maybe mine has picked up some shine to it, but based on the photos and videos I have since day 1 it looks the same to me.
