    Fact: Owning a black painted or any color matte finish vehicle means you’re married to it regarding its upkeep and you need to be careful/selective of any product you use on both finishes.

    After having a matte painted bicycle I am fully aware of the issues of keeping it clean. Unfortunately I did not know about Dr. B's matte specific products and bought the cheaper product from CG's. Yep, you get what you pay for and a bicycle throwing dirt and grime shows up after every ride on matte paint. Now I highly recommend Dr. B's matte products and cringe every time I hear a vendor touting their product is matte 'safe' as in No.3 myth.

Side Note: He did receive a very nice Dr. Beasley's Matte paint care kit from the Hyundai dealership. That’s a very helpful step off point.

    Regarding gloss products not being compatible with matte finishes. What if the vehicle (in this case a motorcycle) has both gloss and matte finishes. Should I be covering the matte panels when washing the bike with "regular" soap?

    • @DrBeasleys
      @DrBeasleys  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you have a vehicle or bike with both glossy and matte surfaces, you want to use a matte-safe soap. Matte-safe soaps are compatible with gloss, but not the other way around. If you were to use a glossy soap on matte, you would need to clean the matte paint sections again immediately after to remove any wax or silicone the glossy wash left behind.

      Is it possible to ASK the dealership if they applied anything that you need to be aware of?
      Probably a snowball's chance in a fire for getting someone knowledgeable that can give you an answer. Some dealerships do have a Detail Department, and there would be a Manager that should know what their normal protocol is for the matte finished cars they sell.

    How do you spot treat bird poop without washing (or ruining) the entire finish?
    Second, does there need to be a "breaking in" wash for the first time I wash my new matte car? Or do I just do all the same you're saying here

    • @mikephillipsrealworlddetailing
      @mikephillipsrealworlddetailing 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The safest way I know to remove bird droppings, especially if they have dried, is to take a clean, microfiber towel and get it wet with clean water. Next, fold it 4 ways and place it directly on top of the dried bird dropping.
      Next, take a glass or bottle of water and pour water onto the microfiber towel to flood it with water. Once the towel is fully wet and can hold no more water allow about a minute to go by so the water can dissolve, emulsify and loosen the bird dropping and then carefully grab the bird dropping pile into the microfiber towel and lift straight-up off the paint. Then wash anything left off with clean water and a quality soap.
      There is no break-in time. The factory paint is baked on before the car is assembled. By the LENGTHY time it takes for the car to leave the manufacturing plant, arrive at a dealership and then have a person purchase it and drive it home - the paint is fully dried and cured and safe to wash.
      Also - the BEST time to ceramic coat your matte painted car is as soon as you get it home. Sooner is better.
      Hope that helps... -Mike Phillips

    I have a dodge challenger t/A flat black stripes down the sides how do you wax the paint and not the matt stripes ??

    • @MikePhillips-Dr.Beasleys
      @MikePhillips-Dr.Beasleys 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very carefully. I'm not being factious, I'm being serious and the way to avoid getting any wax onto the matte stripes is to go slow and work carefully. You can even stay away from the stripes for about 1/8th inch to be extra careful. IF you do accidently get some wax on the matte stripes, have a clean, uncontaminated microfiber towel at the ready to wipe the stripe and try to get the wax off as soon as possible. As a long-time detailer, I've detailed a lot of cars like this and the first best thing you can do is SLOW down and be careful.
      The next option you have is use some low-tack masking tape to tape-off the matte stripes to protect them, but even if you do this, you should still slow down and work around the taped edges carefully. Once you stain matte - it's hard to recover from this type of damage.
      One more option would be to skip using car wax all together and use a ceramic coating. You must STILL be careful but at least ceramic coatings are clear, like water unlike car wax that is opaque.

      @@MurphySuperstar - FWIW - the most important thing you can do to take care of vehicles with matte paint or glossy paint is to INSPECT everything that touches the body panels. This primarily includes, wash mitts, drying towels and microfiber wiping towels. All three of these things are easily contaminated and if contaminated and then rubbed over paint - you will scratch the paint. • @DrBeasleys
      @DrBeasleys  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely, it just needs to be a PPF designed to produce a matte finish. Conventional PPF is designed to enhance gloss and clarity, which you of course want to avoid with matte or satin finishes.

      If Water Spot Remover is unable to remove the water spot, it may have etched the paint at that point. The area would need to be resprayed in such an instance.

      I tried water spot remover first time around after wash did nothing, disappointed. I figured I was being overly cautious, I tried again this time making sure surface was thoroughly dry, heavily saturated the surface with water spot remover let it dwell for about 5 minutes or so (reapplied in any areas that threatened to dry up) buffed off and saw major improvement. Repeated two more times and voila water spots gone! Looks immaculate now. Of course do this on a very cool day and cool surface. Dr. Beasley products are not harsh so patience and time is your ally

    You talk about the finish, "It's either matte or it's gloss." How about the wheels on my Dodge Charger which are described by manufacturer as "Low Gloss Black Wheels." Would that be considered Matte or Gloss?🤔

    • @DrBeasleys
      @DrBeasleys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When it comes to paint finishes, anything less than gloss (low gloss, semi-gloss, etc) should be treated like a matte finish, because the goal is to preserve the finish's reflectivity, not to add to it. We're not saying low gloss finishes are the same as matte, just that they should be cared for the same.

      Moreso that it's not difficult if you already care about keeping your car looking good. For those who are invested in maintaining their vehicle's appearance to the highest level, the amount of work involved is essentially the same as a glossy finish, just using different products.
