WD-40 has a silicone based oil you can spray on your regular wiper blades. Works well to reduce squeaks and rubbing noises. Of course, do not forget to clean the windshield with a good autoglass cleaner and buff it with some RainX.

Once you go with a silicone blade, you will never go back. My preference is the PIAA brand. Also, in some silicone wiper blades, you will get a wet wipes that actually puts the initial later of silicone onto the windshield. You will want to clean the window and apply that wet wipes before installing your new blades. Some, like these here, are impregnated with the silicone treatment in them. I don't think it is as consistent as the wipe on method, but the silicone blade is vastly superior to rubber. Especially if you are in a hot dry climate, like the southwest.

PIAA and Rain-X silicone wiper blades seem to be made at the same factory. They are pretty much the same blade. So can go with whichever have the best price in your area.

Once the wipers set in, water will start beading off. When it rains, the first few wipes will wipe off any dirt/ stuff on the window, then the coated area will be exposed and water will start beading.

I had anxiety watching this video, always lay your wiper arm down between changes. Never leave it up. If you bump the wiper arm without the blade and it snaps back your wiper blade change costed you a windshield.

So yes they last but question with so many brands out there how long did yours last my Michelin Endurance XT Silicone wiper blade in Oregon WA area bought them 1 year ago and the driver side is just in the beginning stages of leaving streaks not bad but not at peak performance I’d say 60% left in the blade but 4-5 wipes to completely clear the windshield I’m probably gonna change them out in 2-3 months after this winter we are going through in 2021. Curious how long have yours last?

Coatings aren't a "gimmick." It's common sense that you can spray certain things on your windshield for better wiper blade performance. That's like saying more than one layer of clear coat is a gimmick.

  • @LawrenceRhodes

Durable case? More plastic waste! A marketing ploy to make you think what you are getting is more premium. Packaging will have to be considered in future production as manufacturing gets more efficient. Wiper Blades are a racket. Shouldn't cost much but as everyone needs them and usually change them in the rain they gotcha. Silicon is definitely better as they perform better and last longer. Wish manufacturers would go to one connector. Fiddling with adapters sucks. The slide in was the easy solution. Now the whole support structure needs replacing. More waste. Rant over.
