  • In this video I show how to rig a swimming worm (cut r worm). This is what I threw most of the time at Florida and I think it’s very important how you rig it. I show the hook, the line, rod and reel and why I use certain equipment to land all the fish that bit.

    MY PROFILE:
    I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

    I have only been following you for 6/8 months but just wanted to express my appreciation for your taking time to explain fully exactly what your doing, baits used, etc.,
    I’m 62 and have bass fished all my life. I don’t get to fish often as I’d like so following the knowledge you and others help when we do get the chance to fish. Also, you taking time to help high schoolers to fish tournaments and be successful, well, I tip my hat to you sir. I kn it’s time consuming creating these videos so kn your appreciated. I’ll be retiring in a couple years so keep em coming so maybe when I get the chance to do it full time, I’ll be ready! I fish Sam Rayburn mostly. Have a blessed day! 😎🇺🇸

    Todd love the videos. Hat tip to Mark Perry for posting one on BBC a while ago that got me hooked on your channel. Learning some finer points. When I started to bass fish in the late 80s we were using keeper hooks. Then they came out with the ewg about the time I started to fish club tournaments a few years later and I switched. Consistently lost a lot of bites over the years till a tournament partner showed me his setup with the offset hook on a t-rig. Since I switched to those type hooks my catch ratio has increased. Until I saw this video I honestly never compared the offset to the hook point being parellel on the ewg. The details didn't concern me as I was convinced it was a better hook for what I was doing and went with it. I don't argue with success. Makes all the sense in the world after you pointed out the difference. Thanks for the enlightenment.

  • @darrelkopsa7143

    First off, I'm way older than you, second I'm not a pro, and when plastic worms first came out I used a straight hook ; caught tons of bass! But the worms tended to spiral if you weren't dragging them. Then they built the "weedless worm hook and the world was right!! With swimbaits came wide gap hooks, and as they developed the point gradually pointed down toward the shank until they buried themselves in the bait! I have to search a long time on the internet just to find "worm hooks", but they work much better than wide gaps for worms! Thanks for giving a professional opinion that makes me feel like that I might be a little bit right on something. Now, about 100 MPH boats!!!

    Great video all good great info. I was having the same problem with the same worm with bass eating half the worm or losing fish not hooked right. I tried all kinds of hooks, the Mustad KVD Grip-Pin 6/0 hook was the answer for me, keeps the worm locked on and you get great hook sets every time plus your worms lasts 10x longer. Also another key to swimming worms is to wait a second longer to set the hook, just so they can get the whole worm and hook in their mouth. Good stuff man!

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924
      @toddcastledinefishing5924  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I was also the guy in the house, that got yelled at for messing with my stuff rather getting ready to go out and eat! Even having been retired for 15 years, I still love seeing the nuances and thought processes that you dictate, in pursuit of the 5 fish limit. Even tho it has no bearing on me now, what really bothers and consumes my mind, is what I would do if fishing an every fish counts format! Personally .... I was using a YUM speed worm and landed a 4 and a half pound chunk. I've got mixed feelings about it. Im going to try those straight shank hooks because the EWG misses them sometimes. I want to try the Cut R worms. Sometimes a slow steady retrieve with a small pegged bullet weight works. I've seen bass ignore the speed worm at times.

    Awesome video Todd! What box are you using for your hooks in this video? It looks real organized for widegap and j hooks. Thanks.

    I like a bit of circle to them so I can hook the fish with out gut hooking them. any opinion on the best size 2 / 4 for bass

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924
      @toddcastledinefishing5924  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t think I’ve ever gut hooked a fish with a swimming worm, the way they eat it you have direct contact with it so it should never be a problem.

    I’m a Florida guy. You DO NOT, in my book, throw a speed worm or a senko on any other hook than an offset straight shank. The amount of fish I hook and lose is not comparable. Great info man. 4/0 all day at a minimum

    Man I have so many swimming worms from various brands and have yet to find a lot of success with them. But mainly have only tried them in the summer up here in OK. Have a few large city managed ponds that have some coontail, milfoil, pads, reeds etc so they should work at some point. Would u consider them better for pre or post spawn?

    When you say speed worm, are you talking about the Zoom speed worm or the ultra vibe speed worm? Do you fish them all the same?

    But is swimming a worm really above bottom with that big a weight ?

    Nice video!! New subscriber, I always need lessons I live in central Fla so I usually can get out on Sunday am for a few hours I would love to catch more fish that cut r worm no I know how to rig it t y and maybe you could go into why did you pick the spots to fish in Kissimmee or Harris chain ,I do not have the electronics like you guys have so I go to areas that look like it holds fish , it would be nice to know like most times here I fish in 5 ft or less . Fishing Kissimmee Sunday t y Steve bender

      Honestly I just drive around until I see places that look good. Too much of one thing like pads or hay I don't like. I like a mixture but not to bogged down, if it has hydrilla then its that much better.

    You use polymar knot on flourocarbon?

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924
      @toddcastledinefishing5924  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always, when I break off its usually the line that breaks never the knot. So I know that there are supposedly stronger knots but if my knot isn't what's breaking I'm not changing.

      I had to rewind and listen back, then I had to rewind a couple more times and just laugh because I am faaaaar from a pro but in my mind 5/8 and 1/4 are so vastly different for a worm weight that I now have to reconsider my entire perception of bass fishing and reality 😂 😂
