    MY PROFILE:
    I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

    Thanks for sharing. On the subject of size, I like to swim a 2" Cotton Cordell spoon, just below the surface, when the largemouth are chasing shad. And while fishing from a dock recently (for about an hour) I caught three bass, one over 4 and the other two were over 3 pounds. Small bait/big fish.

      @@toddcastledinefishing5924 oh don’t get me wrong I can wear em out with a ned, but typically (emphasis on typically) when it’s a tough enough bite to fish a Ned yet good enough that you’ll catch 20#’s and 50 fish there is usually something that is much more fun to fish with that is also getting bit just as good or close enough to just as good to justify it. Like a finesse paddle tail, imotion baits, Biwa rig, a Duo BR rig, or Duo drag metal spoon, hybrid shad baits, blade baits, etc which are much more fun fish. Or going the complete other way with something like a hudd trout, osakana swimmer or lc trash fish.
      To be clear I’m also not blind casting a Ned either. That would be terrible. I’ve even had a couple 30# bags on the high density/specific gravity baits and it was fun but was also super painful. Waiting on it to get to 20-30’ on a weightless hook seems like an eternity. They do good on a

    We have a similar fishing rod to that for flies, and it's not a long rod but it's a lot stronger. Some refer to them as Pike or Musky rods.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The trend coming out of Europe in particular (what many north American fly anglers refer to now as 'Euro techniques'), which is very similar to the small, bottom-bumping, tungsten head, compact baits (which imitate all kinds of bottom living forage, usually things like caddis and stonefly larvae in moving water). It's hard to over-estimate the amount of caddis types of species there are, which live in moving and still water. And the trend in that type of fishing was to go below spec (a regular, all-purpose fly angling rod would be a number five). The Euro guys have gone down to two's and three's regularly, and extended the length of them. Because what they do with their equivalent of a Ned rig is they touch the bottom of the river course with this long, weak type of fishing rod (in some ways, it's not very different from what the ned rigging anglers also do from boat platforms).

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This stronger, shorter fishing rod though reminds me more of the other kind of rods that we expanded into. Over the past couple of decades for the feathered baits and flies. Which were those Pike or Musky rods (where a 'five' would be considered a standard, good top water fishing pole with flies, the Pike rods start at around nine and go to twelve or thirteen). I've fished these stronger, shorter rods and they do have their niche. I would tend to agree, that when one is dealing with difficult conditions of any kind. The shorter, stronger fishing rod can be a huge benefit. In our case though, we're talking about rough water conditions (the kinds in a river where the gradient is so steep that you see actual troughs and valley waves of surface water turbulence extending out in front of you). The kind of water where you walk into it, and it washes you away. That's where we use our nine, ten or eleven weight rods in order to search the narrow margins of less agressive water. That form a narrow seam alongside the main 'wash' that is tumbling down on steep gradient.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is probably the one thing that I would find almost impossible to explain to anglers who spend their lifes out there on flat, horizontal pieces of water. What it's like to fish in water, where the water is sort of going down hill at a diagonal. And the honest truth is, is there are fish that like that water condition (which implies that an angler has to find the right tool to suit that application). And since we came across those fishing rods, that had more spine and brute force to them. We're now able to fish these un-fishable places better. Because it enables us to work with a fishing rod that can still control a bait, even though one shouldn't be able to fish that water. Or in the past, we couldn't have. I'm shocked sometimes at the kinds of water where you can catch fish in. As long as one can put the fly into a small area (and that's why a rod with strength is needed to control the bait in those conditions).

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Anglers who fish surf breaks on saltwater beaches are super familiar with this (the striped bass anglers of Long Island Sound go out literarlly in wet suits, it's a combination between swimming and fishing). However, in the arena of freshwater bass angling. The so-called 'ledge' fishing that anglers do in current seams on the Tennessee river lakes is the same thing. Where fish are able to locate those areas of under-water structure which enable them to take advantage of current, and still conserve energy whilst being in those places. It's very much the same thing, as all of the above.
