    We're BACK but now it's OG Dark Souls 2. Which version if your favorite?
    ALSO, what build would you suggest for maximum fun?

    • @DonArlem
      @DonArlem หลายเดือนก่อน

      OG better by far imo. The DLC are amazing but they're too far into the game. OG has a darker color scheme which I prefer more.
      As for build, greatsword for stun locking with heavy attack
      Bow for baiting enemies to you
      Twinblades are really good DPS wise
      Hex magic is cool
      Maces crush through heavy armor
      Nearly every weapon is viable!! The best thing about Dark Souls 2 is the weapon variety. You can beat the game with a broken dagger literally.

      SotFS made a lot of questionable decisions about enemy and equipment placement so far as I'm concerned (and definitely excessive use of statues as gatekeepers). But I play it anyway as I don't have the DLC on the original game. As I recall, all DLC areas are identical between OG and SotFS.

    • @cheaddos

      I read online that SotFS made some adjustments on enemy placements and quantity. I never played the original. I made a point to get the original and play it someday but I haven't so far. they say SotFS version made the game harder.

    So DS2:SOTFS is my first souls game. It has a special place in my heart. I think it is unfairly hated. So I want you to love this game as well. So believe me when I say the coffin can give you a DUMPTRUCK BOOTY with cheeks so thicc they should alert enemies. It'll take getting in the coffin several times. Remember though this is effectively a glitch. It will change your body everytime you get in and that's why the glitch can happen. Try to spot the changes.
    In SOTFS the FOFG acts as a secondary tutorial. It teaches you spacing, proximity aggro triggers, backstabs, parry, dodge etc. It also comes with an intimidating special instructor who will teach you to git gud at DS2.
    I think a lot of people when playing DS2 try to play it like its DS1 or DS3. One way is they run past everyone and try to get to the boss. Enemies typically dont give up aggro when you run past and fog walls do not give you s. Take your time, light areas up, kill all who stand in your way and explore. You'll make things easier on yourself.
    Personally I had a lot of fun with the grand lance which can be obtained very early on in FOFG. Iirc it is a dex weapon. However the game does have a lot of fun weapons with really good build variety. It is possible to respec. So dont worry too hard about leveling. All you need is an item, which can be gotten early, and to go back to the start. You can get a good number of these items so feel free to experiment with builds.

    Thanks for giving me the opportunity to see the original version of DS2 for the first time. I have only played and seen SotFS so far. Right off the bat, I noticed that Scholar added a bonfire in Forest of the Fallen Giants, but also added more enemies, both regular hollows and an Ogre (that's what the cyclops hippos are officially called). Overall, the original version seems to rely a bit less on nasty surprises to me. I call SotFS "Ambush: The Game", and I don't mean that in a good way. 😐

  • @Lardzor
    @Lardzor หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    I've played the original, and SotFS and I do think they improved SotFS. It's more than just the base game + DLC. They changed a lot of significant item and general enemy placement. Some things were also completely removed or added. One notable addition to SotFS was the red dragon in Heide's Tower of Flame is missing in the original. Something that was removed was the Heide Knight sitting in front of the tree that drops the electric sword. In SotFS you have to farm for that in Heide's Tower of Flame to get that weapon.

    • @AgeofJP
      @AgeofJP หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I must strongly disagree about the enemy and item placement being an improvement in SotFS...it was a pleasant switchup for players that had played DS2 for years at that point and that's also what it originally was intended for but I would actively recommend new players away from it because it's way overtuned for a newbie (as for difficulty scaling).
      I mean there are definetly things that are better in SotFS (like The Pursuer actually pursuing you), but I found more of them just worse or annoying. The Heide's Tower is the perfect example...the Heide Knights are a mid- to lategame enemy (and not exactly pleasant to fight before you learned their moveset), dragons are mid-lategame BOSSES and in SotFS both appear right in one of the first areas. And the latter doesn't even make sense lore wise...what is a dragon doing outside of the dragonSLAYER's bossroom?
      Not to mention the moment you actually encounter the first dragon is fairly late into the game and it's kind of a moment that the game builds up to...your only hear about them for half of the game like they're a fading legend, then you meet the first one caged and kept as a guardian pet, and right after that you reach the only area where they're thriving still. A pretty memorable moment of my first playthrough that SotFS players don't get (or at least very diminished).
      I really think only once you're really comfortable at the game, know all the enemies, and know the story/lore as it was originally intended that SotFS becomes the better experience.

    • @Lardzor
      @Lardzor หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AgeofJP My first experience was playing on the PC with original version of the game plus the added DLC (not Scholars of the First Sin) After just one playthrough I switched to Scholars of the First sin edition, and after being confused initially by the changes, that's where I spent most of my time and multiple playthroughs. It was only after I got the PlayStation 3 version of Scholars of the First Sin which was basically just the original game + DLCs like my first experience that I felt annoyed with the placement of things like the smithing ember and Bastille key being locked further into the game. I didn't realize that the devs intended the new item / enemy placement to be a switch-up for veteran players. Is there a source for that? As to why the Dragonslayer would allow a dragon to exist right outside his doorstep? Maybe he's just getting old.

    • @AgeofJP
      @AgeofJP หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Lardzor I just remember that FromSoft first announced it as kind of a loveletter project for the loyal fanbase (because the game had a very active and lively community throughout the entire DLC release span) but once they started actually marketing it they pivoted more towards the "definitve edition" route...and it makes sense as it's not really smart marketing wise to cater a re-package of the full game towards people who already own it.
      It's been almost decade at this point, so excuse me for not having the receipts to the gaming news channels I watched back in those days.
      And I get that the og version feels annoying when you're already accostumed to what you get and when you get it in SotFS...I was annoyed in the opposite direction in SotFS aswell when many of the drops, npcs and key items were at different locations.
      And yes SotFS giving you better access to some stuff earlier is definetly a pro but it's also needed because of the steeper entry of difficulty...and don't get me wrong, I liked SotFS alot but I thought it was the perfect difficulty for me who played DS2 from release up to the 3rd DLC and came back to SotFS when it launched...I couldn't imagine liking it as much as I did vanilla if I played SotFS first, especially the Heide's Tower area which was the very first area I went to from Majula.

    One of my favorite builds for Dark Souls 2 is the Hexer. Hexes are a new type of magic in DS2 that generally require both Intelligence and Faith to use and their damage scales with the lowest number of those two, meaning you need to level both stats evenly for maximum effect. However the payoff for this inconvenient leveling style is that Hexes are some of the most powerful spells in the game, and you are also able to use both Sorceries and Miracles as well. I also just think using dark magic is cool, ngl. I don't think Hexes exist in any other Souls game either, which makes this build unique to DS2.

    I've only ever played Scholar, and I can already see a couple differences in enemies. It won't matter too much, play whichever you like, but I will recommend Scholar just from what I've heard. It is considered the regular game that most ppl play. OG is kind of a novelty.
    I know Scholar has more phantom npc invasions than the OG, meaning you get more items from it. Scholar also has additional lore. Also apparently the torchlight mechanics are barely in the OG game, which is disappointing cuz it's pretty cool (you can light a torch from the bonfire, and there's areas in the game that are really dark where you progress by lighting torches).
    But that's not the important thing, because either game will work for this:
    What I will really miss seeing is your cheesy magic build -- that was my first build, lol. Unlike the other two Dark Souls games, magic is amazing in this game. There's a Dark Magic type in this game called Hexes that I rly like. Whichever version you choose, I hope you get to use magic again. Maybe a magic user who has an axe as a backup?
    Also I looked it up, and those keys you got at the beginning are for the DLCs, which are apparently open from the get-go in this version of the game.

    Needless infodump about the Dagger:
    The basic Dagger has the highest backstab multiplier and counter damage. Big weapons still do more damage, though, so dagger is just a low stat investment / imbued backstab monster of a weapon.

    Dark Souls II added a new magic type called hexes. They scale with either intelligence, OR faith, whichever of the two is lower. So it forces you to upgrade both stats to be effective. But since you have two stats to raise, hexes tend to have lower stat requirements than a comparable sorcery spell.

    Yes, you can complete the entire game with knives, bows, poison... especially poison, while in other games you can ignore the fact that you are poisoned, here it drains your life very quickly.

    No spoilers which one, but there is a *very* fun curved sword from an upcoming boss soul in the not to distant future that I think you will *love* for a dex build. Btw, you can dual wield in this game if you have 1.5x the stats for both weapons and there are new movesets. Dual wielding dex weapons leads to some flashy slashy combos.

    You should wield the weapon two-handed for more damage - might as well put that other hand to use as well, don't you think! :) (When not using a shield or another weapon that is)
    Also, the buckler shield is good for parrying, not so great for blocking. For a blocking shield you really want a one with 100% physical damage reduction so you don't take chip damage when blocking.

    DARK SOULS 2 HATERS TELLING YOU TO LEVEL YOUR ADP WILL TOTALLY RUIN YOUR EXPERIENCE. YOU DONT NEED ADP AT ALL, DON'T LISTEN TO THEM PLEASE, YOU WILL WASTE YOUR SOULS IN THAT ATRIBUTE.

      Dark Souls 2 is my favorite of the 3. ADP is definitely important.

      @@Howjadoo22 totally unnecesary. A waste of souls. You have the same result learning how and when to roll. Another thing dark souls 2 does better than the others, teaching you that getting good is more important than any attribute. Anyone who read this, you dont need to be the best, you just have to learn to roll properly, not perfect, not to good, just properly. You will save thousands of souls wasted on that attribute.

      @@pomelomarino7710 bruh. Rolling isn't even the only thing ADP improves. The whole point of improving stats in general is to make your character better... ADP makes your character better at some important things. Stop acting like leveling up one of your character's stats is the wrong way to play the game.

      @@Howjadoo22 i never said that, i said it is unnecesary, you don't need it. It is a waste of souls. If you want to level up do it, just do it well, don't waste your souls like that.

      @@pomelomarino7710 there aren't any stats that you actually "need". You can beat the game without leveling up at all. That's just silly.
