Windiest and Scariest Ride of My Life!! 600 Mile/First Service for my 2023 Honda CB125F

- This ride turned out to be the windiest and scariest ride of my life so far. I had the 600 miles/first service booked in with my not-so-local Honda dealer. The only way to get it there was of course to ride! In parts I didn't manage to film I got stuck in torrential rain. Safe to say I was soaked through.. and had to ride home after!
Trying to get a new video out once a week, Tuesday 6pm seems my current uploading schedule, but this could change! Would love to upload twice a week 😁.

The wind was the biggest issue I had while riding my CB125f and CB500F. But my NC750x has remedied that issue and yes, the odd gust can make things interesting, but 99% of windy journeys are now not so much of a "joy". I wish you well and stay upright 🙂

Like you I'm a fairly new rider and also own a 2023 CB125F. A few days a go I met up with a local group of 125 riders that I met via Facebook. I was interested to learn from the group that the general consensus regarding 'the nod' is that you always nod to bike riders, regardless of bike size or L plates, but you must never nod to moped riders lol. No idea why that's the attitude, but it does totally line up with what I see on the road. Moped riders never nod, 90% of other bikers do
Rain is a pain , but doable (got a finger wiper? Surprisingly effective and less than a tenner). But... The wind, omfg It can be brutal. I don't know if its due to how light the CB125f's are, but I have vowed never to ride in 40mph gusts again because I thought the darn bike was going to be blown out from under me and I was going to have to test the effectiveness of my protective gear. Thanks so much Vince! Yeah me too, the winds were absolutely brutal. I won’t be riding it in that wind again that’s for sure! Like you said, it felt like the bike was going to be blown out from underneath me at times.

In colder weather for us in blighty (and our brethren in even colder parts) cold, miserable rain sucks BIG style with wind speed and when you have to get something done, you have to do it. You did the right thing tho stopping etc. Good on you. Stay safe. I've noticed a relatively short commute can result in freezing fingers even with heated grips. Winter gloves made a difference but are too bulky for my liking. I think heated gloves could prob better in the long term

Newsflash for you: I have passed both my mods 1+2 this week via BMW. It was awesome! Can't say I liked the 310f due to my size & shape but the 750gs is my next bike! I was thinking of a belt or shaft drive but I think my next bike will NOT be ridden in winter salts anyway so ...
The stability, control and speed/flexibility of having something larger like that is amazeballs!
Slowing down at traffic, roundabouts, junctions etc is a breeze on something like that. On the 125, I'm all over the place again, no balance in comparison.
Quickshifter, bish, bash, bosh ! Cruise control, I can't live without it after a week of using it (just like on my 4 wheels) ! Those are what got me thru half my test.
So, I'll soon be trading in my trusty cb125f for a 750gs very, very soon.

Keeping the tank full helps in the wind. When a truck goes by duck down below the screen to block wind and put more weight on the front wheel for stability. It's better to think of a motorcycle like a penny-farthing, with a main front wheel and a small one trailing behind. Stay over the front.
Some surgical gloves are handy to keep ur hands dryer and warmer.
Yup the fuel amount helps. The lighter it gets the worse it is.
I keep forgetting about the surgical gloves tip too. Deffo a must do, thanks!

I was blown off my 125 on the windy weekend you mentioned I was lucky I wasn't injured but cost £200 to sort my bike out I won't ride when it's windy like that again but we live and learn

I defo prefer to ride in the rain then wind. both is a big no no for me, if I can help it.
Riding in wet gloves is the WORST. I can handle waterlogged boots all day long if I have to, but freezing knuckles suuuucks!
Small, light weight bikes are no fun in the wind. I'll never forget trying to ride my fully faired Honda NS125R across a moorland road in western Cornwall years ago ... at night in the middle of a massive storm 🤦♂ The sideways rain and side wind were so vicious that on one downhill stretch I had to get off the bike and walk it down the road, bike leaning on me and me leaning into the bike .. couldn't ride as I just got pushed straight toward the 6 foot deep ditch at the side of the road!! Eventually made it home in one piece, soaked through and freezing cold .... lesson learned - don't go out on the bike in a bloody hurricane 😂🤣

Ha nice ride Leon. Some good lessons learned there! the lorries looked liked they posed more of a stress than ending up in the hedge with all that wind, thats for sure. I can't vouch for it, but wearing those thin nitrile gloves under the Summer gloves apparently keeps the draught and rain out as a temporary measure. Worth a go if you ever get caught again.

Do you feel wind blast from oncoming lorries and buses? I distinctly recall finding that one out the hard way 😅
It's no problem in town, but if they're going 50+ mph there's usually enough blast to unsettle you, especially if you're not expecting it.
I found that going into position 1 put enough distance between me and the lorry to avoid that completely.
Being overtaken by trucks (lorries in the old country) is not a fun experience on the CB125F

@@kevinbourke4038 No plans to get rid of it! In fact I'm relying on the trusty CB125F once I start pulling that KTM apart. Once I get over this bout of the Big C that's knocked me flat this week

I own same model Honda as you (same colour) Also, weather here in Melbourne is deplorable, overcast, freezing wind, and overall shithouse. 😮
