- Hey, I'm Tommy and welcome to the 'Two Wheels Tommy' channel. In this video I collect my first motorcycle, a lovely Honda CB125F - The nerves kick in a couple of days prior to collecting it as it dawns on me that this will be the first time riding a motorcyle on the road without supervision, after doing my CBT a few weeks ago. Can I remember how to even start it? Will I be a nervous wreck? Will I crash?! All good questions, and only one way to find out. Enjoy!!!
This series will follow my progress from my CBT all the way to getting my full bike licence. Gaps along the way will be filled with product reviews for items I will use along the way to see what works and what doesn't, and what you really do need, and honestly don't need! You can also expect some beautiful rides out around the beautiful Isle of Wight where I call home, and shopping for my first 125cc motorcyle...
It would be great to have you along for the ride so smash that subscribe button, and I will see you next time for more :)

I've been riding over 40 years, here's a friendly tip: Ride defensively and assume all other road users are idiots who want to kill you 😁
Thanks, this is a great tip, one which I have carried over from riding my bicycle on the road a lot. Assume everyone hasn't seen you 👍
Wise words and ones i adhere to every time i get on the bike :)
Another tip to go with this: remain calm. If someone does do something stupid, they most likely didn't mean to do it. Keep riding, stay safe and most importantly, have fun!
Yea I always ride like I'm invisible and assume nobody has seen me, try to make eye contact with people if you can
Riding since 1967. You are correct, stay wary but enjoy the bike.
I passed my test at 53 years old.Best thing I ever did.8 years later I have never had an accident. All the best.
Nice one Michael. Good to hear you have stayed accident free 😁
That makes me feel so young I'm 31 and still not got any sort of licence or any experience on bikes or on the road for that matter but now considering a long range electric moped in the near future
@@TwoWheelsTommyI'm 39 yet I've always loved motorbikes my older brother had a Suzuki gsxr 600 at 22 never thought I'd be 39 without even a 125 on the road going for my cbt nextweek finally
That's inspiring.im 51 and want to get my bike licence. Well worth it then ?
@@GTFC_How'd it go? I'm 48 and passed mine last weekend. Wanted to do it for a very long time. So glad I finally did it.
I've been riding for 18 years and i thought you smashed it mate, gear changes were great, you are aware of when you need to drop down a gear etc, you didnt panic, road position and cornering were great. You mentioned your hand getting sore on the throttle, thats only because youre gripping too tight because of first ride nerves, try not to grip the bars too tight and you will be good :) you got my sub, great job!
That is wicked to hear that - I try to anticipate what will need doing in 5-10 seconds and wing it that way! Hopefully muscle memory will kick in soon and I won't have to think about it. Thanks for the sub :)
Welcome to the world of biking!! Ahh, there's no feeling like the first time and from the looks of it you didn't do too bad there! I rode a CBF125 home two weeks after passing my CBT. It was nerve-racking trying to remember everything while keeping safe but I got home in one peace and was elated. After 8 months, I went from a 125cc to a 1200cc in one fell swoop and while it was exhilarating, it was nowhere near as intimidating as my first ride home on the 125 because I had put the work in on the smaller bike and conquered my nerves. In other words, it pays to start small. That said, a bigger bike will feel much more planted in the wind and it will boost your road confidence if you approach it sensibly. A few tips if I may. No matter how mundane it may seem, do not skip any steps or checks. Practice those shoulder checks until they become muscle-memory. It's absolutely staggering how many bad or even hostile drivers share the roads with us so do not take that for granted. Heated gloves through the winter is a must, if you plan on taking the bike out. Don't get caught out with frozen fingers, it's no fun. I would also suggest getting some slimmer motorcycle boots or trainers so you can feel the gear pedals. It's best to just focus on getting comfortable with the bike's controls so avoid the stiff bulky footwear for now. A simple riding tip is to stay in lower gears going around the bends as the engine breaking will transfer weight to the front of the bike which is what you want for making sharper and tighter turns, and don't forget to point the wheel in the direction you wanna go when joining a road, before letting out the clutch (I spotted one or two wide turns there). Avoid target fixation and keep your eyes where you wanna go, the bike will follow. Take the bike to an empty car park on a Sunday morning and practice those tight turns with counter-leaning. This is what will give you the ability to manoeuvre away from awkward situations. I highly recommend the YT channel MotoJitsu for new riders. You will pick up new skills to practice which aren't even touched upon in the CBT, and some skin-saving tips as well. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your motorcycling journey!
Thanks! That is quite a list of tips there, I'll try to remember them all! Thatnks for taking the time to share them. More soon 😀
ahhh I'm looking to buy a 125cc ( just passed cbt couple weeks ago ), dreading the drive home even though the dealer is like 10 min away 😂
great tips
My first ride was just a couple days ago and I bloody well shat myself. You handled this like a champ. I'm very impressed.
Wow, thanks Jeremy. Underpant sales just went up 🤣 I'm glad you got it out of your system too :)
@@TwoWheelsTommy yeah man getting my first bike for my 17th soon and im shitting it lol im impressed
My first street ride earlier this year was terrifying as well. I spent a lot of time chatting with myself and staring down all those people that were trying to kill me.
Im due to purchase a bike and have my first over the next few days 😬
am 65 years old ,last time i rode a bike was 50 years ago i saved for 2 years [£144] bought a Yamaha FS1when i was 16 only had it for about 2months got t boned ,bike was a right off never got back on a bike again ,until now, am having a introductory lesson in 2 days time am nervous and excited all at the same time not sure if this will lead to something or not but i always regretted not getting back on a bike your video has given me a lot more confidence so think of me on Friday and thank you. 😁👍
Hey Dirk, wow that is a long time ago! Glad my video helped you somewhat. Enjoy your introductory lesson, I'm sure it will all come back you you soon enough and you can buy another FS1 (£144 would have been a bunch of money back then!) 😀
Cbt done? How did you get on? I done my cbt 3 weeks ago. Was nervous but excited too. Great fun to get back on a bike after 30 years, i loved it.
Hi thanks for asking ,did an introductory 2 hour lesson on Friday didn't do too bad but really enjoyed it ,was then given the chance to come back next day [Saturday] to do the cbt somebody dropped out ,it was from 8.30 to 4.30 long day i thought i was doing ok but the instructor decided i wasn't ready to go out on the road .i Completely understood as its all about being safe but i was very disappointed ,i carried on for another hour and a half riding round the airfield[its Ridesure at Dunsfold near Guildford] really enjoyed that had no problem with gear changing or riding where i struggled was control going slow in and out of cones and the u turn .i can go back on Thursday to try again but i must admit it has dented my confidence also i must have been very tense and ridged because today [Sunday] my arms and neck is bloody sore 🤣if i don't go back i still look at it as a great experience and at lease i gave it a go. 👍 @@peewee007654321
@@dirkbow911keep at it. It defo gets easier. Using all limbs to control the bike will keep your mental faculties going 😝
Back brake control and throttle / clutch control will all come back.
😁👍@@wl660
You did well, my first bike was bought three weeks after my test, 1983, a Honda super dream 250. And it felt fast after the test bike, a 125cc Honda.
Tips? Like others said, you a road taxed legal user, own the road, never let a car squeeze you to the kerb, in rain watch for painted lines/signes on the road, grids, manholes all turn slippery once wet, tarmac will release oils once it rains so watch corners. Give more than 2 sec gap in rain, and look for a red glow under the car in front, means the car in front of him is braking. Have fun mate, your doing well.
Thanks Alan, I appreciate the pointers. The red glow one is a new one, so I'll take that one on board for sure!
I did CBT in July this year. Got my first motorbike, a Yamaha XSR125cc, which I absolutely loved, at the end of September. I live in East Yorkshire...and I bought the bike from Feltham...went down with my best friend who has his full motorbike licence. He rode my bike out of London and motorways and I rode the A and B roads. That also included the A1 ..
.luckily went on a Saturday...So that was a baptism by fire. Only previous motorbike experience was my CBT..I ride with a group of experienced bikers who are really helpful even when they don't realise they are. If I ride behind an experienced rider - say me in the middle- I watch what the others do. Such as correct positions for cornering, different hazards etc....and I'm 53 ....
Nice work getting your CBT done, your bike sounds wicked! That sounds like your first solo was a proper mission. I think you are right, it would be very helpful to ride with more experienced riders, I'm new to the area here so I don't know anyone who rides which sucks a bit. I'll get on some bike nights next year and see what happens. Thanks for watching 👍
I passed my CBT in April this year. Ive never driven a car or ridden a motorcycle in my life. I picked up my bike in May and rode it home from the dealer 13 miles.... I was absolutely crapping myself. I only use mine when the weather is good for getting out and about. I live in North Yorkshire so we have some fantastic roads and countryside. I still get nervous now but its the best thing I ever did. Riding is so much fun. The sense of freedom is incredible. By the way, I ride a scooter so I never get the arm or wrist ache/numbness. Its like sitting in an armchair. You can get some powerful scooters these days. Im going for the Honda Forza or Yamaha Nmax once I pass my full test. There is plenty of storage too! Well done man. Enjoy the ride!
Nice one John, the freedom it must have given you if you've never driven sounds immense! I bet you had a great summer on those brilliant routes you have up there 👍
Man, you brought back so many memories for everyone for their first ride. So refreshing to see someone video their first time. Facing my test the day after tomorrow.
It appears so! The response has been brilliant. Good luck with your test, and thanks for watching 👍
@@TwoWheelsTommy TH-cam's recommendations brought me back here 5 months later. (And I passed my test that day.) Glad to see you're still going strong.
Lots of good advice in the comments so far , but I will offer my small bit of wisdom.
Staying safe is knowing when not to do something. If you are having doubts about an overtake or something don't do it.
Great advice Trevor, always best to be on the side of caution 👍
Been riding trikes for the last seven years, haven't ridden two wheels for nearly twenty years. Just bought a two wheeler and thought I could just chuck my leg over and ride like I used to. Nope didn't get out of third gear rode like a learner and will have to learn all over again. Thank you Tommy you have given me the encouragement not to give up.✌💯
Some of those trikes look cool! Glad you found the video helpful, more to come so do stay tuned. Oh, and never give up, you've done it before so you can do it again 😀
Here's some advice they probably didn't mention in the CBT.
If you're parking on a slope, make sure to position the bike so it points uphill. You see, the first time I ever broke my bike was when I parked it on a slope. Went to the shops down the street, came back, and found it on its side with a snapped off mirror.
Gravity + the weight of the bike will push the kick stand up
That is good advice, that must have really sucked! Still, not the most expensive mistake to recover from!
@@TwoWheelsTommy yeah could have been worse lol
@TwoWheelsTommy For sure!
Wait why did it fall?
I've been riding for about 23 years and I still have a little chat to myself every now and again when I'm riding. Its good for concentration and focuses you on improving. I find myself saying "stay out near the kerb Dave to get the best angle round the right hander" or "drop back for a better view before overtaking". Its better to be like that when road or traffic conditions are tricky than zoning out and getting careless! You rode really well for a first time out mate - be second nature in no time.
Thank you Dave, haha making this video really made me realise how much I talk to myself when I'm not talking to the camera. Little pep-tals all the way! 😀
Amazing, i done my CBT on a moped one year ago in August because i couldnt do the gears, went back for another lesson on gears, it took me a good few weeks of practicing before i was competent on my bike. Thankfully i've now got my A license.
Great work, glad you got your full licence in the end 👍
i think getting on my 50cc ped for the first time at 16 was my biggest feeling for freedom yet
I can imagine it was! 🚀🚀
This tskes me back to my first solo ride, about 12 years ago. My first was a Honda Shadow VT125. I adored that little beauty. Had to sell my bike when my marriage ended a couple of years back. I didn't realise how much I missed it until I watched this. Hoping to be back on the saddle soon.
Hey, sorry to hear you had to sell your first bike. Thanks for watching, I hope soon will be the right time to buy another VT125 so you can relive the good times 😀🚀
Just completed my CBT yesterday Tommy on My new Honda CB125 F i'm 67 years old & drove a car since 1976 when i passed my driving test,i realise it's a whole new Ball game on a bike, i was nervous as hell before & on the CBT but i came through ok, worst thing is you practice in a small area & then you are out on the road with all the traffic, i realise i need to get more confidence and going to practice various things in some bigger car parks and go on small journeys around town to get more skill, your videos have helped a lot, many thanks.
Nice one for doing your CBT! CBT day is a strange old affair for sure. Early mornings on the weekend would be a good time to go out, much less people on the road going to work or school - so less pressure for you 😀 I'm glad you have found my videos helpful 😊
@@TwoWheelsTommy Many thanks once again mate👍
@airaction2257 You're welcome 😀
My first ride was last week, after my CBT, and it was to work. I was actually, strangely calm apart from when a giant van was right up my arse and being huge in my mirrors. Anyway, I arrived to work, having had pedestrians step out and emergency vehicles zoom by, etc, but I arrived perfectly happy with how I had performed. Came to a stop outside my building and just fell over while stationary.... With a colleague watching me! Oops. I found out later it's called a "Stop and drop". haha
On my way home I learned that some traffic lights don't register small bikes so they won't clear for you. And I was losing feeling in my fingers and thought it might have been the cold but it was how hard my palm was pressed into the throttle, cutting off the circulation. I sat up a bit, relaxed, and changed my grip and I got my fingers back. Watching this I think you did really well and were brave to record it for public consumption.
Oh and I agree with you... When you're not used to it... THE WIND!! lol. I felt like I was a human parachute.
Oh dear sorry to hear you experienced the stop and drop! I'd not heard of that. Loose grips all the way, I should know better as I get the same thing on my mountain bike. Haha there is a lot of me for that wind to catch, like a human sail 😀
Managed to get my full CAT A back in September, after finishing my CBT in August. After driving a car for over a decade I was genuinely shocked at how nervous I was during my first on road sessions! The dread of the hill start is real. Your videos were a great help, and it was nice to see in the comments that we all go through the same process. Happily riding my Honda CB650 around the city and very glad I stuck with it.
Cheers sir!
Glad you found my videos helpful Dave. Good to hear you stuck with it, enjoy your CB650 😀
I think you did brilliantly. You seem like a really down to earth chap and a natural at making interesting content. I’m 55, about 7 years ago, I took my first CBT and bought a Yamaha YBR 125. I was too nervous to go for my full licence at the time, but I treated every ride like I was on my CBT still, so didn’t develop any bad habits. I took a further two CBTs before taking my Mod1 and Mod2. I was shaking so much on the tests, but passed and have upgraded to a Honda Rebel 500 as my first big bike. Taking the test was the best decision I’ve made, but my only regret is not going for it sooner. It definitely helped riding like I was on a test everyday, avoided bad habits. I’ve been a car driver for many years and that gave me road wisdom.
I have one main motto when riding - if it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. This includes filtering, overtaking. Better to arrive five minutes late in this life than thirty years too soon in the next.
You have my sub sir. Looking forward to the next chapters.
What a nice comment to make. Thank you. I try to make it interesting for me to watch, so I'm essentially just making voice notes.. I am so glad that others enjoy watching it too. I have been driving since the 90's so like you I have acquired a lot of road wisdom, most of it crosses over but I feel there is more to think about on a bike. Good to hear you got your full licence in the end, it sounds like you are thoroughly enjoying it. Thanks for the sub, hoping to have a new video up over the weekend if I can find the time to edit it before then! 🙂
You did great. You knew when to downshift. Your stops and starts were excellent for a first-timer. Was great for a guy in New York City to ride along with you. Thanks!
Thanks! I have to say I have been to NYC, I wouldn't have fancied my first solo being down Park Avenue 🤣 Always great to hear from viewers the other side of the pond. I always wonder why they watch stuff from the UK! I appreciate you watching 😀
Thanks for sharing this video. It brings back good memories 10 months ago. When I first rode my Honda CB125f. I got my full licence in May 2023. Really nice to look at this video as it reminds me where I started too. You will do well. Really good on your first attempt. Well done. I was no way near as good as you on my first attempt and not brave enough to go for a long journey.
Thank you. Nice work getting your full licence. I had to put my big boy pants on for this, I was tempted to have it trailered to my workshop, and it would have been easy to use the crappy weather we've had as an excuse but where's the fun in that?! Thanks for watching 👍
It will soon become as natural as driving a car, essentially you're doing things with your hands that you would normally do with your feet in a car, easy to become confused, just take your time don't get flustered, if you do, stop and calm down. I'm 68 now and have ridden and owned bikes since I was 16. The types of bikes have changed over the years, knackered hips and knees dictate that, I'm currently riding a Kawasaki VN800 Drifter, hopefully my last bike. Ride safe and keep the rubber side down, remember Lance Corporal Jones'famous quote, "DON'T PANIC!!!"
I am ready for that stage to creep in Steve! Don't panic indeed! Your bike sounds lovely 😀
The way you're talking about what you are doing and what's coming up and what's happening in front of you is what WILL keep you calm 👏🏼👏🏼👌🏼
With more rides you'll evolve into a different rider, and the nerves will go away and then you should have a little buzz knowing that you're going out on the bike 😋
Please take a look at some videos on here,
Have a look at: Counter steering a motorcycle, riding tips for new riders, how to corner a motorcycle, life saver tips for motorcycles , good habits for new riders , ridding techniques for safety,..
You never stop learning, and you'll reach a stage when you're comfortable and maybe a little bit more aggressive in your acceleration, braking and cornering.,, and more defensive in your road positioning, and you are enjoying yourself 💪🏻💪🏻🙏🙏
Don't ever be scared of the rain either, I've got an Aprilia RS 125 and it is amazing in the wet weather if I've got no choice but to ride it, these little 125's are light and they handle fantastic.👍🏼👍🏼
🇬🇧 👍🏼👍🏼
Forgot to write,
Because of your mtb experience, the counter steering, is natural and you'll be able to transfer your skills to your motorcycle riding, I'm 40 years old, and I've never been without a MTB , and there's certain things that I've experienced when out on my MTB which has been a help while on my RS 🤷🏻♂️👌🏼
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼
Passed My test this past Saturday. And Went on the following day to pick up my bike in London and rode it to Milton Keynes (Yamaha XSR 125) . What a Journey that was !!!!! 2h30 ride (76 miles) . I had to avoid the motorway for obvious reasons .So From London, went to Uxbrige, Aylesbury, then Milton Keynes. I encountered every road use case possible aloong the way (Heavy london Traffic, Round abouts, country side twisties, stip up and down hills).
Wow, you really chucked yourself in at the deep end 😮 Nice work, that is quite a trek - If I did 76 miles I would have got around the whole of the Isle of Wight twice I reckon. I hope you are enjoying your new bike :)
Avoiding motorways is a great habit to keep. My current touring bike is two years old tomorrow and in over 20,000km through France, Spain and Portugal it’s only been on a motorway once and that was to cross from one side of the River Loire to the other near Villandry. The most convenient bridge just happened to be an autoroute. For the rest of the time I’ve ignored them, there’s always an alternative more interest ion option to take on a bike. Always.
Takes me right back to my very first bike, a Honda H100S in 1986. No cbt back then of course. I had to ride home 5 miles from Cardiff town centre having literally never sat on a motorbike. I stalled a couple of times but within 5 mins i was fine and absolutely loving it and knew right then I'd be a life-long biker.
Sounds like you really picked it up quickly!
Enjoyed watching this. Here in Alabama You pay 5 dollars take a 30 question written test and bam full motorcycle endorsement. I wish we had a better learning structure here. Anyway just bought my first bike in over 30 years tonight. I'll bring it home tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I'm glad you enjoyed watching my experience. Your test sounds too easy, that's bonkers! I hope you enjoy your new bike :)
Well done mate! You’ll be loving it in no time. I’d recommend practicing low speed manoeuvres a lot and never forget to LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, can’t stress how literal that is. Try and get used to the bike squirming around underneath you and if you feel confident try standing up on the pegs and feeling how the bike responds as you shift your weight around. Stay safe out there, and remember, everyone is out to get you on a bike 😆
Thank you! The addiction is setting in already and I've only managed time-wise (and bloody crap weather) to get out twice so far 🤣 I'll try the standing on the pegs thing and hope my foot doesn't slip off!
Definitely watch out for target fixation, where you look is where your bike will go.
This video did make me smile. Im in the same situation, just passed my CBT last week and picking bike up on friday. This was a decent first ride out well done 👏
Thanks Adi, congratulations on passing your CBT, I bet you can't wait to get your new bike! Take it easy 👍
What did you get? How did your first ride go?
@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne I'm picking it up tomorrow, hopefully it doesn't rain! I got the LXR in white and black 😁
Passed my test in 1980 and have been riding pretty continuously ever since. I still embrace the fact I am learning too as there's always something that's not cropped up before. Today's machines are way more reliable, and likely way safer than the narrow tyred higher powered bikes of the 1980's we could ride. Indeed shortly after passing my test I bought a Kawasaki Z1300.
Good luck on the bike, ride safe, and looking forward to seeing your new channel grow.
Blimey I bet the 1300 was fun (and sketchy!). Thanks for your kind words, I can't believe so many people have subscribed because of this video ❤️
Biking is generally a very friendly place to be involved with. For sure you'll get some negativity, but focus on the positivity and you'll be fine.
The big Z1300 was awesome, but had tyres more suited to today's pushbikes...@@TwoWheelsTommy
Yes I have really found that so far. There is quite a 'scene' over here 👍
Thanks for that. You’ve chosen a great bike. Even almost 50 years after passing my test my DR125 is my first choice for a lot of my rides, 125s are a lot of fun at manageable speeds. Get as many miles under your belt as you can and enjoy. I’m picking up a new bike next Thursday and I’m excited, you never lose that feeling.
Hi David, yes it is not very exciting but it really is a great bike for a learner. What new bike are you getting?
@@TwoWheelsTommyA Voge 300 Rally. It’s to replace the DR to use on the trails and lanes that are everywhere around where I live. My main bike is a CB500X. I love it, it’s a more enjoyable touring bike than the ST1300 I owned for 9 years before getting it.
Fair play, you did bloody well, biggest thing is just to relax on the bike and it will make it so much easier for you. Easier said then done, but we've all been there. Also talking yourself through what you are doing is a great exercise to help you build your confidence and awareness for riding, so keep it up!
Hey, thank you - my thoughts exactly! Thanks for watching 😀
On ya for doin such a big first ride. I started at 16 and my father rode my first bike home for me, took me 3 rides before I left my suburb. That was 10 years ago, I ride a 1000cc bike now and still love it.
My father told me every time I left the house to ride like I'm invisible, I've seen a lot of comments also saying everyone is out to get you and it can be true, but I've found that just imagining that no one knows I'm there helps a lot with my confidence on the road.
Stay safe on the roads and enjoy it, bikes are a beautiful thing, a private space for yourself and a getaway from life's problems!
A 1000cc bike sounds appealing! I have had so much great advice, I'm trying to take it all in. I do enjoy my own company so a motorcycle is ideal 👌
You absolutely smashed it mate. I'll be watching this back for sure when it comes to doing my first solo! Subscribed 👍
Legendary behaviour, thanks!
You were doing absolutely fine mate. My first ride, about 1.5 years ago, I picked up my new-to-me YBR from a workshop and drove it home. After 8 previous owners, the alternator had gone. I was in Whitechapel, crapping myself, and pulled over somewhere to regroup, at which point a homeless woman started shouting abuse at me. Which I thought was funny only because it was surreal. When I approached the first junction I didn't know what to do; I was also doing car lessons at the time and the words of my instructor came to me like divine inspiration: "Mirror, signal, maneuver". So I did that. And everything else went smoothly.
Thank you, that sounds like a nightmare first mission! Glad you got it in the end 👍
Well done, passed my CBT this May and my first ride out was an absolute mess. Nearly put me off for good.
Five months and 4,000 miles later got my MOD1 and MOD2 booked in for early November. Best summer by a distance.
Thanks Adrian, I hope it came together quickly for you, you certainly got the miles in! I think I will wait until next summer for Mod 1/2. Good luck with yours in November :)
Imagine how much fun it will be when we get a dry summer! Worst summer I can ever recall this year (2023) and I have been riding for 47 years...
Yes, it was lovely when doing my CBT. Definitely looking forward to more of the same next summer :)
I remember passing my cbt at 16 (now 33). Was proper exciting, i was cheering out loud while riding down the road. Great day.
That's what I like to hear! Hope you are still riding 💪
I remember my first ride back from the dealership in February. Waited in traffic when I could have filtered with ease but was so nervous I didn’t dare. Mod 1 in a few weeks and love looking back at how much more confident I feel on the roads now. Have a blast ma man!
I feel your pain, I'll leave filtering for a bit! Good luck with your Mod 1 😀
A good solid first xolo ride in my eyes. I only passed my big boy license 9 years ago when I was 42 and never looked back. Best thing I ever did. Ride safe old boy and ill subscribe and follow your progress
Thanks John. I bet you are riding something fun now! Thanks for watching/subbing 😀
It's nice that You decided to publish also Your struggles, which is not that common. Obviously the gear change wasn't perfect, but You won't even notice when You'll start popping wheelies on that 125! Wish You all the best, and stay safe
Thanks, yeah I wanted something I could look back on when I know what I'm doing! I can do a nice long wheelie on my mountain bike so we'll see what happens on the 125 😜 Thanks for watching :)
I did my CBT July I'm in my late fifties, took a while to get used to gear changing, got a few miles under my belt, love it, just passed my theory, MOD 1 in the new year, love it ❤
Nice one! I'm glad it has all slotted into place for you, bet you cannot wait to get your MOD 1 done. Have fun! 👍
New subscriber, I only had to watch a minute of your content and I liked you. I passed my IBT in April so can relate to your struggles. You will be flying it in no time 💚
Hey, thanks for the sub! I guess the IBT is an Irish CBT. You have a lovely island to explore over there, I've been a few times when I was a teeneager and toured all over with my parents in their camper van. The Ring of Kerry is fantastic 👌
I'm 26 now and on a 1000cc, watching this and having started on the same bike as you was a nostalgia hit, looks like the exact same experience as I had, reminds me of how I used to be when I first started riding, was a wild time but a good time, hope you have many years of fun riding ahead of you
Nice one! It was a sad day yesterday as I said goodbye to this bike. I passed my test last week so I'm curerently big bike shopping. Thanks for watching! 😀
1000ccm what for?I guess you don't follow highway code 😂You need go to Germany with this bike ;)
@@Muflinn I’m very sensible on my bike ;)
@@UMDdynamo wish you the best,be careful,my brothers have accident on 2 stroke oldschool Yamaha 650ccm,some idiot forced the right of way and pulled out of a side street, he spent a few months in a coma with various fractures and he was wearing full armor, I also had an accident once on a scooter, the guy in front of me suddenly braked using the handbrake because he wanted to turn suddenly on a double solid line for no reason, I hit my head on the upper left pillar of the car so much that the sheet metal in the car dented, on top of that I did a rotation and a half in the air and my shoes fell off my feet falling on my knees, good thing I had protectors, the helmet practically cracked in half at ear level, if I hadn't fastened my helmet I probably would have been dead by now, watch yourself brother because you never know what will go through someone's head while riding.
@@UMDdynamo Sorry bro i replied to you with very long message, off course with no reason my comment was deleted, stay safe on road,me and my brother we have some accidents on motorbikes and almost died so watch out for blinded brainless drivers.
I’m doing my CBT in December .. I’m excited and nervous. This video was wicked to watch .. well done!
Thank you! Good luck with your CBT, and try to have fun. When you open that throttle on the open road for the first time it is an immense feeling. If you check out my other videos, there is one that covers everything you can expect to happen during your CBT session. Thanks for watching 👍
Brave mate, I'm waiting until after winter to do my CBT because the roads might be icy? I dunno lol...Goodluck and drive safe 😇👍
@twowheelstommy already checked it out mate haha. It was a big help, I’ll let you know how I get along
@@AMan-JCIL I know I know, im praying the conditions will be good but im excited either way. Maybe it’ll be good experience depending on the weather conditions haha
@@AMan-JCIL passed the CBT, was a good experience! Hopefully I can do the full licence is jan/feb .. whenever you book your cbt have fun with it!
Just got my CBT last Friday, after I got my certificate I drove home in my car and realised I'd left my helmet and gloves at the training centre. Gave me an excuse to go back on the Sunday to pick it up. Luckily I had a spare helmet so I took my bike, a Honda MSX 125 Grom. Like you I had a touch of the nerves (been driving cars and vans since 1990). What an awesome time I had. By the time I was getting home I felt so comfortable. Can't wait to get another dry day and get out for another ride.
I love hearing this! You sound like you were more organised than me having a bike already. Have fun 👍
Haha good stuff, the memory is very recent.
Got my first bike at 49, a Yamaha XSR 125.
With my driver's license I was supposed to do a couple of courses and get rolling but I did none, you just pay and they hand you out the license, no questions asked and seeing as I work 24/7 I had little choice, I had to learn "on the job", had to go riding to learn how to ride.
My first month of riding was a steep lurning curve and I was counting mistakes every late night ride and trying to just lower the count little by little.
I tought myself well I feel, all the right things, but with motorcycles, you can never let your guard down or stop teaching yourself.
Thanks, it was nerve-wracking! I hope you arejoying your Yamaha. Sounds like you had no choice but to pick it up quick 😮
I have watched this 4 times now. I am booking my CBT next week and have purchased a Keeway 125 superlight and this video keeps me going. You can't tell that the wind is knocking you about, it looks like a nice steady ride. The mic on your gopro is good too.
Ha thanks for watching! Good luck with your CBT, bet you can't wait to get on your Superlight, they are a great looking bike. Go get that CBT done 💪
Thank you Tommy 🏍🏍
@jaffaballymakeery746 You're welcome 👊
Well done mate, so nice to see new riders on the road. I agree that when you take that first ride there is so much to think about, but it becomes second nature after a few outings and you will start to relax and enjoy the ride. I passed my test back in 93 after booking a block course and my first bike was a ZX10. It scared the pants off me the first couple of rides but you can get used to anything with practice. Great to see how you are thinking ahead and are fully aware of surroundings, observations are good and also good road positioning. Gear changes and clutch control comes when you are more familiar with the bike so dont worry. Try easing your grip on the bars that will help with the hand cramping. Have a great time riding and I look forward to seeing the further adventures you have :)
Thanks Michael, it is good to be out there - I've been wanting to do it for years. I think my gear changes are coming on ok but practice makes perfect. Other have mentioned the grip, I am trying to implement that. Hopefully have a new one edited and ready to chuck up over the weekend. Thanks for watching :)
I've been riding bikes , for 60 years.
You did all the RIght things, "being aware" is the key .
Always check your bike over too. "Tyres etc".
Happy riding, "stay safe"
Hi David, you are quite right, you should always be aware when riding a motorcycle. Sounds liek you have been if you've been at it for 60 years! Thanks for watching 😀
Well played mate. I’ve just gone through the same emotions. Been driving since 1985. Passed my CBT this month and, after endless searching and re searching, bought a brand new Yamaha XSR 125 for my first ever bike. I was much like you first time out. Second time out, all the pre ride nerves and doubts came flooding back, but it was all fine. Third time out was the same, over thinking it and worrying too much but again, all was fine. I’m sure the nerves will decrease for us both as we get out more.
Good luck and stay safe. 👍
Hey Ant, It is all a bit weird isn't it! Your XSR 125 sounds nice. See you out there 😁
Takes time to build confidence but you’ll be there in no time, just remember to enjoy it! Xsr is a great bike aswell
Ain't that the truth!
Just passed my cbt at 50 year old and been out 3 times now and when your on your own it is nerve racking and over thinking everything but you did spot on
Congrats. It is, but try to only worry about what is going on in front of you. It gets easier with every ride 💪
loved this so much. just reminded me when i started riding and had all the same thoughts and feelings. you did great👍
Glad it wasn't just me then, thanks!
Love this video... did my CBT back in February...aged 57. Almost bought a Honda but went for Yamaha ybr as it was the type I'd done my cbt on. First ride... stalled and couldn't get it to restart. Found out later there was a fault on the clutch lever and it wouldnt disengage the safety...as a result I couldnt restart the bike by just depressing the clutch with it in first. At one point ended pushing the bike to a safe spot to figure out what was going on. Your first solo was rather more successful... 😅. All sorted now... just need loads of practice.
Glad you like it! I went for the CB125F as that is what I did my CBT on. I bet a lot of beginners do exactly that. Your first solo sounds loike a nightmare, sounds like you are cracking on now though 😀
This was a very refreshing watch. You did great. Improvements will come with time, you’ll find that before you know it everything is second nature. Just get out as much as possible, create your bond with the bike. You’ll look back at this in 2 years when you’re riding your 1000cc and wonder where the time went! P.s: remember everyone is out to kill you.
Thanks Alfie. Yes it will be fun to watch back down the road. I have come to realise that, gotta have your wits about you!
I'm doing my cbt tomorrow and just found your videos! This has eased my nerves so much thank you!
Nice one! If you still have time you might find this one helpful too. Good luck 💪 th-cam.com/video/jhgosaVDVHs/w-d-xo.html
Firstly congrats on cbt and your new bike, welcome to the family.
Don't be so hard on yourself, you did really well and showed progression from the start of the video towards the end, imagine how much you will improve over the next few outings, most people are nervous first time out but once home and bike parked up immediately want to get back out lmao.
Wind is an evil b1tch and can catch most people out, many things are different from car to bike and am sure you may get spooked a few times but relax, stay calm and don't tense up and you can pretty much ride through most issues, just don't panic.
I don't know where you are in the UK but if your up near South yorkshire I'll come out with you as I honestly believe riding with a sensible group of people can really bring your skills and confidence out in leaps and bounds just get with the group that matches your riding style and ride your own ride.
If you know another biker that has more experience get them to follow/guard you and let you learn at your pace.
Other than that have fun bud and stay shiny side up.
Thank you very much :) That wind was nasty, I'm on the Isle of Wight so we are exposed no matter what the wind direction is so I had best get used to it! Thanks for the offer but that is a massive trek 🤣 There is a thriving biking scene over here so I'll get out on some of their rides sooner or later 👍
Rode that like a boss, well done. Try pre loading yr gear changer before pulling clutch, you will find gear changes sound/feel better. Takes a little practice. Soon you will be flipping off cars and calling bikers who don't nod back noob heads. Welcome to the world of bikers, yr gonna love it.
Thank you. Others have mentioned pre loading so I will try that a little down the line when everything else comes a little more naturally. I've got so many tips to implement now, the comment section has gone bonkers 🤣
Great ride, just a bit of friendly advice leave a little more space in front of you when stopping behind cars, try to think if someone didn't see my bike and hit me where would I end up? You can point the wheel to an 'escape route' as you get more practice in, but just to begin leave at least a couple of bike lengths, simlar to what you did with the van @22:34, apart from that you smashed it, nice smotth riding and acting like you were invisible, best way to ride. Well done you ✌(been riding bikes 40+ yrs) Remember those lifesavers...they will save you.
Thanks Paul, others have mentioned leaving that gap so I'll be sure to implement that in future as that mkaes a lot of sense 👍
I'm learning to drive a car right now, and I don't think I'll ever be brave enough to ride a motorbike where I live, but it's so nice seeing someone have such a good time!
Hey, good luck with your car licence. What's so bad about where you live?! Thanks for watching 👍
@@TwoWheelsTommy
Cheers a bunch! Fingers crossed I can get it done before June next year. I'm in the SW countryside. People drive like reckless idiots (most of them are old enough to be great-grandparents, and you can tell!), and it's a hotspot for lorries with farm animal feed, so I don't think it'd be safe enough.
Visibility can only do so much. If I get a bike, I want it to be a little city automatic moped, so I can pooter along to work
😄
Nice, we moved from Devon/Cornwall border earlier this year - it is nice down there. It is very similar over here on the island, people retire here so the geriatric drivers are out in force 🤣 Some lovely roads for riding on over there, you should give it a try 👍
Very very good 🎉
Thank you Gary, I was quite glad when it was over 🤣
Just come across this video. Good job ha. I went from CBT to direct access and passed all within 30 days. My brain couldn't process it all quick enough ha.
I jumped to a GSXR1000. This video reminded me of how i felt when i first went out. 😂. Ive got few thousand miles under my belt now so all is good
Thanks! That does sound like a steep learning curve 💪 It does all come together rather quickly once you get a few hours under your belt doesn't it 👌
@TwoWheelsTommy it's great once u get some miles under yr belt. Ride to go home not the hospital 😂
I've been riding big bikes 36 years and I've just gone down to a honda cb 300r and it's like a breath of fresh air ....a lot to be said for low cc bikes . Ps you doing brilliant. Enjoy!!!!!
Sounds like a more relaxed way of life! Thank you 😀
I've been riding on a cbt for the past 5 years on the same bike and they're troopers, super bullet proof, just past my car test to get out of the weather for a bit but dude its very nerve racking that first solo but top lad well done! keep going and always watch your back stay safe!
Thanks Barry, sounds like you are really attached to your 125F! Congrats on passing your car test. I wouldn't be without my car with the crappy weather we get in the UK 🤣
Im waiting till im 17 to do my CBT since I dont want to be riding a moped. The Honda CB125F is the exact bike I want since the fuel economy is fantastic and the bike is very forgiving from what I hear people say. You look like an absolute natural at this. Back in my home country where you don't really need a license to drive, every time I drove a motorcycle (granted it was a bike from like the 80s) it stalled. You are absolutely smashing it considering this is your first ride after your cbt. I would be soiling my pants if that were me
Sounds like a good move to me. I feel a moped would itch a scratch but only temporarily. You need massive 125 power 🤣 The bike is great, you cannot go wrong and with approx 150mpg it's a great bit of kit :) Good luck with your CBT 👍
You smashed it. I passed my cbt in june after being my partners pillion for years. I now ride a Kawasaki z125. My first ride was two days after my cbt. Im getting better now and more confident but still get the butterflies before a ride. Each ride gets easier.
Thank you. Yes I was dreading it when I was on my way to collect it but now I'm waiting for it to stop bloody hammering it down so I can get some more miles in!
I remember my first solo ride after picking up my CBR125 & I absolutely shit myself 😂. Rode about 10 minutes down the road to my grandads place and was shaking with nerves when I got off the bike. As soon as I hopped back on it though they went away and I really started to love it!
Yeah it is weird. On the first ride you can't wait to get off it so it is over, but the next day you can't wait to get back on it 🤣 Onwards and upwards 🚀
This is so funny. It's like watching a mirror on my own recent experiences. 48 years old, passed CBT in September and picked up my Yamaha XSR 125 from a very similar-looking road to where you did, in a town 30 miles away from home. Needless to say the ride home was like yours - nerve-wracking and not without the odd heart-stopping moment. I'd built up a lot of fear in the run up to the day (to the point I was seriously thinking whether it was for me at all) and had even "walked" most the route on Google street view. On the day it was a breeze and more importantly fun. Been out a couple of times since and am loving it! I now look forward to getting on the bike.
Wish I'd recorded my own first ride.
Hi Jake, glad you enjoyed it. 30 miles is quite a way for your first ride, nice one! I was lucky I knew the route as I know the island very well but it was still daunting. I absolutely hear you regaring questioning if you are doing the right thing. That gap between doing my CBT and getting back on a bike planted a lot of seeds of doubt in my mind. Thinking about it is almost always worse than actually doing it so you just gotta crack on 👍
I passed my cbt this year after wanting at the age of 53 to get a bike, I bought a 2018 Suzuki GSXS 125, and the day I went to collect it was like a really bad winters day. It rained non stop and was very heavy from the moment I left the house and got the train to the dealers shop over 21 miles away. The ride home was nerve wracking especially as it was my first solo ride and the weather became worse. The rain became torrential and the wind was so blustery it was blowing me left and right that’s when I thought to get of the bypass and get into more sheltered roads. By time I got home I was soaked so badly and freezing BUT wow did I get the bug, now I’m out on it as much as I can. Well done on the ride back 👏👏👏👏👏🏍
Hey Scott, if you can handle that you can handle anything! I bet riding in the sun is like a dream come true for you now 😀 I suppose you have to have experiences like this to know what kind of kit you will need for winter riding, I bet you got some good kit after that 😁
That was an excellent first ride!
Had my new bike delivered the day I did my CBT!
Got back home and took the bike up to the next village scared Sh*tless!
A few Twisties which I went through so very slowly!
Last time I was on a bike was over 30years ago and even though I'd passed my driving test still did a CBT as they had just come in and thought it best. Really scared myself and never went on a bike again.
Until last month at 52 did the CBT and got the new bike a Super Soco TC Max electric bike. Glad I did automatic the thought of gears as well......no thanks.
Ridden to work and bike a few times now a 50mile round trip, still nervous and it won't do 60mph with me on it, hate to hold people up behind me!
For you to do this on your first ride, outstanding!
Hats off to you.
Thank you, your electric bike sounds interesting. I hear you regarding the speed, I'm a lump myself which is why I did my CBT so I could get a 125cc. I have grandfather rights on my car licence so I could have just bought a 50cc without a CBT but between my house and my workshop are a few 60mph roads, no way I was going to be the fat bloke doing 28mph on a moped cheesing everyone off. I doubt it would have got back up the hills! See you out there :)
Great video, just passed my cbt today automatic moped and am picking up my new bike in a couple of days, am v nervous about first solo ride but feel so much better after watching this Thankyou 😊
Thanks Nicky. Congratulations, get ready for some fun! The first ride is nerveracking but you will be fine. If you watch some of my more recent videos you'll see how quickly it all starts becoming second nature :)
Just did my CBT and my instructor would have been telling you that you are stopping too close to cars. I liked watching this I can’t wait to get my bike
Your instructor would be right there. If you watch my later videos it does improve. My instructor used to shout at me for doing that. Very common. Congrats on doing your CBT, you have a lot of fun ahead of you 😀
smashing it buddy, did my CBT in September, rode my 125 to work and back for some weeks, then recently completed my DAS training, mod1 and 2 complete and now out on my big bike and loving every minute, after 13 years of driving a car and at 40, wish I'd done it years ago, ride safe buddy.
Thanks! Congrats of getting your full licence. I too wish I had done it years ago 👍
Im gonna be doing this as soon as my logbook arrives. Picked up my bike a coupla weeks ago. Pretty nervous about it as london roads look abit more hectic than your area. Really good watch mate. Thankyou!
Nice, what bike did you grab? You will stick out like a sore thumb on the road on your CBT as you'll be in a group of riders with loads of hi viz gear! Good luck with it, hope you smash it. Thanks for watching 👍
Still remember picking my first bike. a Suzuki GP100. Rode it back home about 3 miles, it helped that I had ridden my father’s old Suzuki 80 into the ground around the back garden so I was quite good at control at low speed.
Sounds like you had a decent headstart! Nice one 😀
I’m 52 years old and passed my full bike license 3 months ago but probably won’t get a bike till next year.probably get a 600cc and I’m sure I will be just as nervous when I get on the road.well done mate.
Thanks Steven, I don't think anyone is immune to the nerves on a new ride. Enjoy it when you get it👍
Good fun and congratulations! When I purchased my first geared bike a Suzuki B120 (120 cc) in 1976, there was no requirement to pass a CBT test and I suddenly realised on picking it up, that I didn't know how to change gear. I asked the sales assistant to show me, but he wouldn't. He told me what to do, said that I would soon get the hang of it and directed me to a small side road that ran along by the side of the shop! I wrote it off a few months later.
Oh dear, sorry to hear you wrote it off. But I must know, did you master the gears before that happened?!
Hi Tommy, yes I did. Like you I found changing gears easy after a few trips out. It was the foolishness of an 18 year old, overtaking a whole row of cars while looking in my rear view mirror to see if my mate was following me and when I started looking forwards again, there was a keep left bollard in the middle of the road. I bent the bike like a banana so the front wheel was under the seat and landed at the next lot of bollards completely unscathed. A brand new full face helmet which cost £33 in 1976 was however written off. That was when I was earning a £1 an hour. I didn't get my big bike licence until I was 56 years old, 38 years later! The replacement bike for the written off one was a much nicer Suzuki GT185, also a two stroke. You can see some of my recent (ish) travels on my channel. @@TwoWheelsTommy
That's good to hear about the gears, not so much the banana bike 🤣 I'll check out your channel while I have lunch today 👍
Really interesting watching your progress. After 40 years of being a car driver, I've just got myself a Honda CB125F. The first run out after my CBT was terrifying, and I kept pulling over to try and get a clear road around me. Amazing how fast some of it became 'automatic', but still making silly mistakes. Superb fun though.
Hey, it is a strange experience the first time on your own isn't it! Much better feeling when it all starts coming together 😀 See you out there!
Just had my first 125 outing couple days ago and was exactly the same. Rode to work at 7am, still dark but thought screw it, jump in the deep end! Definitely is class being out there.
It feels weird doesn't it! The sense of achievement is mad though. Hopefully the roads were nice and quiet for you at 7am. Thanks for the sub :)
Welcome to the world of two wheels, enjoy the many new adventures I'm sure you'll do.
If your hands are hurting you may be holding your grips too hard, try to have a lighter grip of them and well done filming your very first 'solo' ride and 👍🏻on your hill start.
Thanks for the tips! They have been much better on the next 2 rides so I must have been m ore relaxed 👍
this is so great to watch. im 25 and just the other day did my cbt and am in the process of buying my first bike so i will also be doing my first solo ride soon
Glad you like it! Good luck with your first solo 😀💪

I'm very similar to another guy on here, I'm 69 and, stopped riding in my mid 20s, (mortgage, kid, car) I always kept my hand in when we went on holiday, as in hiring a bike in Spain or the Greek isles. I got back into it properly about seven years ago, bloody love it! I've done down to Italy, also all around Spain, the NC 500, various roads four times ☺. At the moment I'm on a BMW R1250RS, which is a perfect bike for me. Best of luck with your tests etc. 🤞🏍.
Thanks, your bike sounds lovely... I'd love to do the NC500 sometime. Your kids myst be grown up now then 😀
Well done fella .. only piece of advice i need to add is imagine that at every junction a car wants to pull out on you and you will be fine ....... stay aware of your surroundings and look up the road ... not just in front of your front wheel. Where you look your bike will follow .it all becomes 2nd nature . I'm 55 and have been riding on and offroad for the last 45 yrs and still learning 😉
That is great tip, thanks! I'll be glad if I can 45 years riding in!
Yes tommy done my cbt april first time out solo is so nerve racking and exciting. U did great mate. Ive now done mod 1 and mod 2 completed on Tuesday just gone so full licence now and the nerves still come into play every now and then just treat every ride with the same caution and dont forget them life savers ... good luck on the journey and keep having fun
Thanks Richard, good work getting1 your full licence - I bet that feels awesome 😀 I am having lots of fun so far, thanks for watching 👍
I know your location very well, I live here too! I’m in Newport and picking up my first bike on Sunday from Brockenhurst! Hoping the weather stays fine and I can get some learning miles in through the new forest 😊 You did a great first ride!
Hey Alex, good to meet you! That will be a lovely ride, mind those cattle grids though (Constant speed, straight line)! Hope you get some nice weather. I chickened out of buying from the mainland as I didn't want to have to take it on a ferry on my first ride so fair play to you. Enjoy 😀
Brilliant mate. If there was no commentary I wouldn't have thought this was your first ride 👍
Nice of you to say so Reece, nice one! 😀
You’ve done well mate. Ride for yourself and to your limits, always look where you wanna go and the bike will follow, don’t forget them life savers. Practice makes perfect.
Thanks Daniel. Life savers are the most important part, just gotta remember to do them every time I manouvre until it becomes second nature 👍
If not already been mentioned, Grip puppies! Take the vibration/ buzz out of the handlebars, get up the gears to reduce the engine revs & have fun
Never heard of those, they sound interesting so I'll check them out. Cheers! Numbness has gone now though. I was just gripping to tight, holding on for dear life 🤣
i remember my first solo ride after my cbt, on my new cb125f, i set off 6.30 am to make sure there would be little traffic on the road, and i just couldn't believe how much i loved it, my trip of about 60 miles in the yorkshire dales was fantastic, so much so it was over far too quick and i didnt wanna get off, so did over 100 miles the next day. That was 18 months ago and i spent a year learning to ride doing 10k miles before taking my DAS end last year. to any new rider i'd say take your time, give yourself plenty of space and stay as aware as possible, but i found to my surprise most motorist treated me with respect and showed patience when i made mistakes, of which we all make plenty (still do) and don't be discouraged when you drop the bike, as everyone does sooner or later, theres no shame in it, it's how you learn. in the vid you look like you're riding fine m8, just stick with it, but you mentioned your wrists ached (mine did) so i bought some Hually Wrist brace Supports for just a few quid on amazon, what a relief they give, especially on long days, i also fitted a handlebar riser, and made my own comfy inflatable seat pad. GL and stay safe
Hey Bob, nice one - you managed more miles in your first 2 days than I have in 4 months 🤣 Sounds like you have really mastered it now. Funnily enough my wrists stopped hurting after a couple of rides, which I'm very pleased about. Thanks, stay safe yourself 👍
@@TwoWheelsTommy haha once i started i was bitten. i even did a 1500 mile tour of scotland in just over 7 days last year, just strapped a bag on the back and stayed at hostels and backpackers mainly. i took a year to learn the roadcraft as best as i could and not rush into a bigger bike, even though id cycled for 50 years and driven for over 40, and know i need to stop spitting feathers when someone cuts me up and let it go quicker, especially when i get my new bike soon, but hey !! i'm sure i'll get there, and as far as 'mastering it' i'm not sure anyone does, any biker worth their salt will admit to many mistakes regularly no matter how long they have ridden for. GL
@Bob-ts2tu I'm glad you are enjoying yourself on your bike. What's the new bike going to be?
@@TwoWheelsTommy i love my cb125f and will be sad to see it go but i aint got the space, but decided on a new cb750 hornet as it's got such great reviews for nimbleness which is important to me as i spend a lot of times in the lanes. i thought that to develop as a rider, for a bit more 'fun' at times, and to lug my fat ass up steep hills a bit faster i needed a bit more power, and it seems be great value & to fit the bill of all i'm likely to need for a long time. roll on 1st march :) lol
@Bob-ts2tu Ah yes they are snazzy. Should be a bit quicker than the CB125F. That would be a '24 plate right?
I was a bag of nerves I just sat on the bike till I got the nerve to ride ,I still get nervouse for the first half hour when I go out now after that it becomes injoyable you done great thour well done your a natural.
Sounds like that works for you to stick with it! Thanks for watching 🙂
Ey congratulations man. It is funny watching this because it is literally showing how I felt when I first passed my CBT, just passed my full license last week, on my a2 license. Gonna try and do the full A license in a few months when I turn 24.
But its always good to see new bikers.
Thanks! A lot of other viewers have also said it has brought back memories that had been previously shelved! Nice work on getting your A2 👍
Just ordered my bike. First rides yet to come but can’t wait 😁. Like being a kid again 🤟🤟
Nice one, always nice getting a new bike. Mine will be in my garage soon, cannot wait. Like a kid indeed 😀
Looks like a fun bike. Unless someone's told you otherwise, you probably need turn your head to look on merges and lane changes more - you can't rely on mirrors or hearing others. Surely you can nod whenever. That's just neighborly! In the States, the two fingers down salute is more unambiguous than a nod but would be difficult driving on the left. And, not stalling in your first trip, priceless.
Hey, yes it is not bad for starting out on. Someone else mentioned that, and I noticed it when watching back the video. The video footage can be quite misleading though, since the camera has image stabilisation it smooths out lateral movement to a certain extent by narrowing the field of view. Also the camera lens doesn't swivel like my eyeballs do! Always room for improvement though, especially when it is new to you. I'll work on that. Haha, I was chuffed I didn't stall it, but I did on my next ride out. No one is immune 🤣
I started my journey with motorbikes exactly a month ago after riding a mountain bike to work for the past 8 years. I was so nervous when taking the cbt at first but about 10 mins in i overcame the nerves and was able to pass. I know everyone says you cant fail a CBT but the honest truth i had a guy on my course fail his and he was sent home. i literally turned up with all the gear and had no idea, while others on the training course didnt even have the correct shoes on. I passed using a scooter as i had already bought a new SYM JETX 125CC 3 days before my CBT so i wanted an easy pass. I love every minute i spend on the bike and just last week did a 60 mile journey on my own using an app called calimoto. I may at some stage upload some footage as i used to do ebike vlogs but stopped when covid happened. ill certainly give your channel a follow and see how you progress while also starting on my own adventure with motorbikes. Also drain covers are not your friend as i nearly found out the other day on a roundabout 😅
Hey, riding an MTB would have stood you in good stead for motorcycling. 3 people who started on my CBT course didn't even make it past the car park for various reasons (I know 1 of them has subsequently passed). You JETX sounds cool, I'd have to ride around the island 3 times to do a 60-miler 🤣
At 43, having completed my CBT three weeks ago, I'm waiting for my brand new Yamaha MT-125 to be delivered in the next 10 days.
I already have butterflies thinking about my first solo ride!
Nice one, they are lovely bikes! It get's easier real quick so try to enjoy your first ride 💪
I only had my 125cc four weeks, cbr125r loved it. Mod 1 and mod 2 done within the month and on to an old r6. Always do your lifesavers and ride to YOUR OWN pace. Better to get there 10 mins later than not at all. Rubber side down brother 👊
Alright Jase, you moved a little quicker than me then 🚀 Nice work! Honestly, the speed some of the geriatrics drive over here, 20 mph seems fast - you are quite right :)
Great video. I'm picking up my CB125F next week and i'm super excited but also pooping myself :)
its nice to see a beginner ride.
Thanks Lee. It is only natural to be pooping yourself - I certainly was! Stay calm, look far ahead and figure out what you need to do way before you need to do it and you'll be fine 👍 Good luck!
Doing my CBT in a few weeks at 45! Looking forward to it but anxious as well. Loved the video.
Nice one, you'll have a great time! Check out this video and you'll know exactly what to expect on the day - and do a subscribe if you've not already! 💪 th-cam.com/video/jhgosaVDVHs/w-d-xo.html
I'm 17 and did my cbt a few months ago. I'm riding a dt125lc two-stroke from 1984. I've been riding off road for the past few years so riding on the road came pretty naturally. Congrats on your first ride though, you're doing great!
Well done Archie, your bike sounds fun! I'm not ready for any off-road action just yet 🤣
Passed my cbt last year and I still remember picking up my bike from the dealer and riding home, 11 miles felt like a million. You did great. Tips I picked up try and be a bit more relaxed with your throttle grip, same when riding in the wind try not to tense up with riding in the wind. I’ve ridden in all weather conditions now, only time I didn’t take the bike to work was when it snowed and couldn’t drive up a hill to get home
Nice one, yes every mile feels like 5 🤣 I think I'll give it a miss if it starts snowing!
