I read some these posts. Take it from a fan from 66 (when I was 3). ST often allows the cast to 'have fun' with their parts. The musical episode was designed to showcase the actors other talents, as they have often done. To hold it to a cannon standard, misses the point. They had fun. I know some of the actors that those roles and they hold their parts in HIGH regard. If they are cast as a Starfleet officer, they stay that officer. They may be cast in other alien rolls, but their main stays the same. Thru the years they get promoted/life occurs etc. Ligthen up people.
Exactly! It's in Kirk's Intro in TOS! (And this title) Explore STRANGE NEW WORLDS! Seek Out NEW Life and NEW Civilizations! The Plots and Story lines in TOS as well as TNG were sometimes outlandish! That was the Beauty of it! Voyager (My all time favorite, I'm 54 and grew up watching TOS as well; thanks Syndication!), and DS9 set more darker dramatic themes and that too is beautiful! And Lower Decks? I have ALWAYS been a Cartoon fan and the style, humour, characters, references, easter eggs... Love it!
I've got a creative idea give us more episodes per season the first two seasons don't even cover the amount of episodes that were in season one of the original series this show is fantastic and needs more shows per season

Ok I almost didn't watch the musical because I felt the idea was corny. However then I decided to give it a chance. I actually wound up watching it several times. Spock's song, "I am the ex" was one that resonated with me. Well written and well performed, and it came from a Vulcan! I also was intrigued by the styles of music used for the different performances! Tastefully done. If you're not watching because of this one episode you'll miss some other great Treck action. Is that really worth it? I guess we humans have our tastes. Some will love it, some will hate it. That's just the way it is. Loved the musical! I was proven wrong. Didn't find it corny. Can't wait for the new seasons! Thanks, to all the hard working people who bring SNW to the screen!
I was afraid of this, too, because I hate musicals, but I enjoyed it, and I do feel it served the story. There are TNG episodes that I found much worse. Lifelong fan of TOS--60 years old. I'm looking forward to watching the cast become the original cast from TOS.

STSNW is a great show, and literally on another level above Discovery. I hope Paramount have learned spending tens of millions on an episodes sfx cgi wont make the story better, (or sub par actors better). Start with a good story, use good actors, and then start spreading the millions onto sfx cgi ect.

We were so excited to hear SNW was going to go back to the original Pike crew we bought a massive new tv for the event. Little did we know the 'crew' from the original was almost completely removed in favor of DEI. DEI spells DEATH to Star Trek and it's showing. DS9? I watched the first five seasons but grew weary of it. I'm sure I'll finish it at some point. It's better than Discovery (everything is!), Picard and SNW but I would put the TOS (I also include TAS), TNG and ENT above it. Last night I decided to watch an episode of Voyager and I enjoyed it. It's been so long since I watched a Star Trek episode for the first time that didn't make me want to scream in frustration. So I might have to give Voyager another try. But not SNW anytime soon. Just thinking about that show is depressing.

I grew up on Star Trek TOS reruns. I liked the musical episode, and thought they gave a creative reason why it was happening, and that it was believable within the framework of Star Trek. There is so much amazing musical talent among the cast, it would have been a shame to let it go to waste. If they start doing one every season, then I would agree that it doesn't work.
I agree. A musical episode (of sorts) was done once on Voyager and was integral and appropriate 3:12 to the story but this was just a lame attempt to show off some not-too-impressive singing skills of the actors at the expense of wasting an episode. Had this been an extra 11th episode it might have been mildly entertaining, something you could optionally watch but would not interfere with the continuity of the series if skipped.

I like it, but not all star trek fans like musical episodes, like not everyone likes musical's in the first place, also it's like the star trek cartoon cross-over, it's a ok episodes, but doesn't really feel like something a classic star trek series would of done in the first place, if they cannot come up with good plots, a cartoon cross over is not the fix for that. I can only hope they whoever they choose for the rest of the TOS characters are good, and close to the original for example, the reboot star trek movies, like bones character, I had mixed feeling about him, since he didn't feel right for that part, compared to the original actor who played him, it didn't feel perfect, hair and skin tone didn't really match, and his southern voice was not perfect, but it's not like they can boot up a clone machine to make them right :)
@Robert-s9u I agree not everyone is a fan of musicals but you have to admit that the "Strange New Worlds/Lower Decks" crossover was phenomenal! It's almost as good as the DS9/TOS "Trouble With Tribbles" crossover.
@@trhansen3244 I was always diverse since TOS technically. "Black woman" Uhura, "Scottish" Scotty, & "Half Human/Half Vulcan" Spock, anyone? The difference is that the diversity thing was NOT the defining traits of the characters. Scotty won't get offended by any insult to anyone unless it's the Enterprise because insulting someone's ship is far worse than insulting their own mother. And Spock despite being a Vulcan who's not suppose to feel emotions, does feel emotions like sadness & having a sense of humor. It's what also made TNG, DS9, & many other pre-JJ Abrams Trek enjoyable.

I still can't finish season two. It's that's bad. I started it a year ago. I have finished several entire series since, including The Dick Van Dyke Show, Space 1999, Barnaby Jones, Ellery Queen, Combat!, the original Magnum PI, F Troop and The Lieutenant. I can only hope they whoever they choose for the rest of the TOS characters are good, and close to the original for example, the reboot star trek movies, like bones character, I had mixed feeling about him, since he didn't feel right for that part, compared to the original actor who played him, it didn't feel perfect, hair and skin tone didn't really match, and his southern voice was not perfect, but it's not like they can boot up a clone machine to make them right :)
@Robert-s9u I agree not everyone is a fan of musicals but you have to admit that the "Strange New Worlds/Lower Decks" crossover was phenomenal! It's almost as good as the DS9/TOS "Trouble With Tribbles" crossover.

@@trhansen3244 I was always diverse since TOS technically. "Black woman" Uhura, "Scottish" Scotty, & "Half Human/Half Vulcan" Spock, anyone? The difference is that the diversity thing was NOT the defining traits of the characters. Scotty won't get offended by any insult to anyone unless it's the Enterprise because insulting someone's ship is far worse than insulting their own mother. And Spock despite being a Vulcan who's not suppose to feel emotions, does feel emotions like sadness & having a sense of humor. It's what also made TNG, DS9, & many other pre-JJ Abrams Trek enjoyable.

I hated the musical episode, dumbest thing I ever watched. Season 2 only had maybe 3 good episodes in the whole season. Hoping for better in Season 3
I still can't finish season two. It's that's bad. I started it a year ago. I have finished several entire series since, including The Dick Van Dyke Show, Space 1999, Barnaby Jones, Ellery Queen, Combat!, the original Magnum PI, F Troop and The Lieutenant. I am so desperate for quality tv of any kind I am forced to find shows from decades ago. Screw you, Hollywood liberals and your woke garbage!
