Dr. Roger Corby, ex-fiancée of Nurse Chapel (pre TOS) who was the protagonist in the episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of" (s1 e7 TOS). This was a chance for some major background story for Nurse Chapel in TOS, but that didn't pan out. Strange New Worlds has finally done Nurse Chapel right
No we didn't have to wait a whole year to find out what happened to Captain Picard, we only had to wait a summer God I miss those days along with the 22 plus episode counts
Simply too costly. The audience demands top end visuals - Filming actually goes pretty quickly, then there's a year in the "editing room" to add visual effects..then reshoots where they see the filming didn't quite match the effects they were going for. Quite an ordeal
Tv shows in the 80's didn't take 2-3 years to release new seasons. We only had to wait over the summer for the Borg Cliffhanger (Sweeps were in May/June and the new Seasons started up in September/October)
@4:20 "The Best of Both Worlds," a two-part episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, originally aired in the U.S. on June 18, 1990, and September 24, 1990. While it might have had a longer gap in other countries, I couldn't find any information confirming that. In reality, there was only a 98-day difference between the two episodes. However, as a 15-year-old at the time, it felt like a whole year. In my opinion, this is one of the best two-part cliffhangers in TV and film history.
Not only did we have to wait to see if Captain Picard would return, there were rumors that (Sir) Patrick Stewart wanted out. I was also amazed to learn how broad the appeal of Star Trek was. I was a young accountant often battling the evil forces of the IRS (actually most of them are really nice, fair people) and I'd find myself talking Trek with a wide range of folks (Young to old, high and low on the management ladder). As always, thank you so very much for the videos.
Having to wait a rediculous amount of time for the release of the conclusion of season 2's cliff hanger is poor judgement on behalf of Paramount. It should be released as a stand alone episode NLT than christmas 2024. Waiting until midway through 2025 both ages the actors and diminishes the anticipation. Some viewers will just move on and I can't say I blame them.
I love "Strange New Worlds" so much. I love this hype today it's so much fun. I'm looking forward to the murder mystery episode by Frakes. Can't wait for season 3
4:25. What are you talking about? We waited 3 months from the end of The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1 (June 18, 1990), to the start of Best of Both Worlds, Part 2, in the following September. I guess you mean outside the U.S. That's not being made clear in the commentary.
Corby is a great addition. That whole ramming scene tho. If the shields stopped damage to the Enterprise shouldn’t it have then not been able to actually harm the Gorn ship?
We had to wait four months for the second part of “The Best of Both Worlds” not a year. Those seasons ran from late September through early June with twenty-six episodes.
In TOS it was made clear that no one knew about T'Pring until Spock had to return to Vulcan for his marriage and that Spock was unaware that Chapel was engaged to Korby, What are little girls made of 04:20, though Kirk apparently knew about Korby/Chapel. Apparently SNW is a different timeline.
@@ParisLawLess It's more than that. If you go back to Quality of Mercy (SNW 1-10) they blame Pike for Spock getting killed when the war starts. However the reason the war started, is because they replaced the original Romulan second in command with a different character. The original was a long time service officer who trusted the commander and as a result didn't call for reinforcements. The second in command in the SNW episode appeared to be someone who got his appointment because of influence. I say this because it was only his third mission and he was already second in command, plus the commander mentioned having served with his uncle. He, the second in command, wanted to rise in rank faster than his experience qualified him for. He is the change that brought the Romulan fleet and the Praetor to a place where she could start a war. As for whether Pike was at fault, in TOS the impression I have is that he, was promoted to training duty after a successful multi year mission. That's why he was at the accident, instead of in command of Enterprise, and why Kirk was given command of Enterprise.
@@ParisLawLess Star Trek has always had inconsistent canon. Every series has from TOS on up. The problem with the recent iterations of Star Trek is that they aren't even trying or they don't care. Probably both.
Darby may play Ben Finney, Matthew Decker or Finnegan. If Strange New Worlds may get pass 5 season limit and may get the 7 season run like the previous series or more. Strange New Worlds at least gain the trust from old fans and finding new ones!!!
Thank you, STRANGE NEW WORLDS, for bringing back the joy of STAR TREK to old (er) fans 😁! Ah, Roger Corby... and Sherri Jackson's jumpsuit, "Mind your business" speech from android Kirk to Spock made WHAT ARE LITTLE GIRLS MADE OF one of my fave eps. If you're truly a TREK fan, and haven't binged ST THE ORIGINAL SERIES, go and do it!
Is not so much of a cliff hanger if we know when and how Pike dies, we know Spock, Uhura, Scotty, Mbenga and Chapel make it to the original series as does the ship
The whole prequel craze in the early 2000s is an irritant that refuses to go away. It ruins everything it touches in exchange for a shameless cash grab and a talent crisis in the writer's room. Trek is long gone as none of them can write within the well established canon a sequel, so they just hijack the work of others and attempt to pass it off as their own. So it just leads to the audience feeling disrespected and insulted, and ultimately abandoning it on mass. Apparently there are still people watching Rings Of Power too, with star wars prequels flopping on Disney. I don't understand why the writing is so terrible given the budget. It's like low brow fan fiction given millions of dollars per episode. If you stop watching, it goes away.
I do not get people worrying about the fate of main characters in a season cliffhanger. Polt Armour is a thing that rearly fails for the main characters in Star Trek.
i am only guessing but is he not nurse chapel future husban in the tos i am so looking forword to season 3 of snw i wnder if this gorn conflict where enterprise get so badly damaged and we could see her change from the snw visuel design to the tos design wich we do see in picard that both designs are canon
Strange New Worlds is the best. Picard was like having one last adventure with our favourite captain. Discovery simply sucks, as far as im concerned it doesnt exist.

I love how SNW is filling in some gaps and fleshing out the stories of side characters from TOS. I think it's brilliant.
I felt very old when you said you weren't alive For Best of Both Worlds.
Now I feel old too……

Roger Corby is an excellent idea to heal Captain Patel. Dr PHlox would have been fun too, with his long lifed Denobulen remadieies.
