Once again Star Trek ignores it's own history. Kirk in the Enterprise was the FIRST to meet the Gorn. They ignored that in the lousy series Enterprise too. In Enterprise they ignored that fact and then ignore the fact that Picard's Enterprise were the first to meet the Borg. Star Trek writers are notoriously bad and steal scripts from movies. the Enemy Below for instance, and they are incapable of maintaining the continuity and history of what went after and before their current series.

20+ years ago they had 24-28 episode seasons and had to build sets from scratch ect. Now they do 10 episodes and lots of CGI ect and want to make as much money as actors and staff when they worked their butts off 24+ episodes. The people doing these puny 10 episodes need a reality check imo.

Simply put, the quadrants is dividing the Milky Way galaxy into four. Each galaxy may have four quadrants but sure we can divide a galaxy into much smaller slices of a pie. Sol solar system (ours) rests in two quadrants being on the line. Meaning that part of the year, Earth would be in the Alpha quadrant and part of the year in the Beta quadrant... in Star Trek canon. In a show such as Orville (a star trek like show), the quadrant may be rotated counter-clockwise 45 degrees. and Earth would be along an imaginary line half-way between the boundary lines of the quadrants. We don't know in Orville how the quadrants are named. It could be names something like Alpha, Beta, Centauri, and Delta (following the A,B,C,D pattern) where Star Trek's use of Gamma throws things off in a weird way but okay. I can see a theoretical possibilities of star trek and Orville cross-overs in a broad sense of multiverse theory and Orville universe could be another reality that would be fun to see a cross-over show or series of sorts. I know these shows are under different companies but that would be fun to have between Paramount and Disney/Hulu to work a series that cross-ties in some way. It isn't unreasonable to divide a galaxy into four parts. Each galaxy having its own four quadrants. Anyway, I actually enjoy both Star Trek and Orville so I thought about these ideas.

I've always found it funny how some species were aware of which quadrant of the Galaxy they were in even before they met any humans. Not even the Borg had challenged the Federation about being in the Delta quadrant.

The actual explanation is as follows: The *galaxy* in Star Trek, which is vaguely disk shaped, is divided into quadrants because that is often what humans do with circles when mapping them. The entirety of the Star Trek shows and movies take place in just the one galaxy. Being able to say what part of the galaxy stuff happened in helps the stories to be understood. Was that said with small enough words? WTF do they teach kids these days at all? This is basic high school. (edit: If my condescension offends you for some reason, good. As a musician , sound engineer, and long time Trekkie, I loved the musical episode. Not anymore “ridiculous” than the foley sound of space engines and explosions. The music had great production and were actually very good songs. I would be proud of any of those numbers coming out of my studio. This notion of “true to Star Trek” belittles the original themes that pushed so many boundaries at the time.

The core premise is badly ... badly flawed. ST does not occur within the "boundless" universe or cosmos but within the specifically bounded region of the universe called The Milky Way. The galaxy we inhabit. That can be quartered off (literally sectioned into 1/4ths) called quadrants. The Milky Way Galaxy is NOT infinite, we can observe it and observe other galaxies, and the vast mostly-empty intergalactic space between them. That is like saying the Solar System is infinite without understanding other star systems and the vast mostly-empty interstellar space between them. There is literally zero enigma around quadrants, and that's why no one has bothered to tread. And those things don't really have anything to do with "quantum". or the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics. Also quadrant and quantum are completely unrelated terms and concepts. Making a good Star Trek video requires a solid grasp of physics and facts. That seems to be missing here,
