"It's the Infinite diversity, stoopid!" Many thanks to James Carville for that line. Gene Roddenberry had a mind ahead of his time. Star Wars focuses on wars and Trek focuses on..., well there are wars but they are not the center of the franchise and that makes all the difference to me. I bet he is Commodore Decker, imagine if they return to Earth and Pike command for insubordination is taken from him and given to Decker for few episodes. While Pike is assigned to special group (like Picard was in TNG episode with Jellico), that has to rescue captive officers from Gorn. Also what is known that during 2259 Decker was still Captain and was promoted to Commodore later in 2263. Yet it is plausible to him to be back at Starfleet HQ as in 2259 has ended his first five year mission.

Omg. I met Ethan Peck at a convention in 2019 before Strange New Worlds aired. He was there with Anson Mount. Ethan was upbeat, obviously happy to be there, and appeared thrilled to meet and greet his fans. He wore a “Vulcan High Five” shirt one day, from what I recall. I was thrilled to meet both of them (and get a photo taken with them).
I am excited for seeing where they go and what episodes they do and what they do with the characters. I would love the see a multi-episode character arc for Spock where after the events of Season 2, I am assuming him and Chapel semi-patch things up, but she comes back from her 3-month fellowship clearly in love with Korby, the group that gets Vulcanized kind of bullying him and re-opening old wounds from his childhood, and then maybe some adventure featuring Sybok (and hopefully Captain Angel back) that maybe leaves him re-engaged but much more distant from T'Pring and overall lost and confused as to his path, and then he has an episode where he and Kirk work together heavily (maybe throw Bones in there as well) and it allows Spock to start finding himself, building a friendship with the type of person (people) that Michael told him to find and reach out for at the end of Discovery Season 2, and taking the a turn towards the character as we are most familiar with him as from TOS.
I would love to see an episode this season featuring Kirks father. George. Would be interesting to see him show up with both his sons on Enterprise and imagine who they would cast as him.
Legacy male characters? Robert Crater (the archaeologist in The Man Trap), Gary Mitchell, the Klingon trio of Kor, Kang & Koloth (as revived in DS9), and relating to them Curzon Dax, plenty to come up with, but I've my sunday Mustie1 vid to watch now so I'm off to go do that now... :P
The concept behind shields is that when it comes to physical objects(so not phasers) they don't actually stop anything, but rather create a ricochet effect. In the case of something like a torpedo, the nature of an explosive projectile would cause it to explode, rather than be deflected. But, if that object is big enough, aka an entire ship, the deflection would be miniscule.
@@mikespangler98 probably. This is just a general rule of thumb. Most of the time the writers/directors just do whatever the hell they want whether it makes sense or not.
I could see Ortegas being a big influence in the opening episode with obenga. The two war vets helping the rest of the crew and settlers escape the gorn ship? I will add if ortegas is injured or dies we riot!!!!!
I've noticed within the past year, release dates haven't been announced when they have another series announced, like they don't want to step on the toes of what's coming next. Right now, Lower Decks is just around the corner and in the era of streaming, some might hold off on subscribing if they know that in just a few months, another Trek series will be released, so then the consumer gets more bang for their buck. I've noticed Disney+ doing the same thing with their big IPs like Star Wars and Marvel. They wait until the current show is almost done or done before they announce the next series. It's kind of smart when you think of it cause many consumers are upset with too many streaming options now and bounce from one streaming service for a couple of months to the next one for a couple of months, binge watching while they are subbed to whichever service. So now, when it comes to marketing, they have to hold their cards (the streaming networks) closer to the vest to get subs now instead of later.
Anyone else experience a TH-cam commercial break at a spooky time? "5 seasons seems to be the limit [before they get cancelled]...We have to support these show. Otherwise they're not gonna-[commercial break]"
I think there has to be an equation of mass involved in the shields. Cause it is stated that you do need shields to protect from spacial debris. Also, see Mariners shuttle versus Ceritos.
It was a hint given at a Con in Melbourne, Australia that a scene involving Spock & ‘a tray of geometric shapes’ would be worth keeping an eye out for.
I’m thinking Rhys Darby will play Garth of Izar. He might be brought in as a tactical advisor against the Gorn, with the Federation not aware that he is going mad already.
He might be Dr Brown from TOS. Hear me out...Apparently, they cast the legacy character Dr Roger Korby for the first episode of the season. They already mentioned him a few times last season as he is the professor that accepted Nurse Chapel to his fellowship at Star Fleet academy. In TOS, he is Nurse Chapel's ex fiance (apparently they met when she was his student) In the TOS he appeared in, they find him after he's been missing for 5 years, and it turns out he uploaded himself into an Android version of his body. Another person who ended up also being an android in that episode is his assistant who was an old friend of Nurse Chapel's named Dr Brown. So maybe it's him?
You're overlooking someone!!! S'TONN!! Have we seen S'Tonn in SNW yet? I don't think we have! Because we all know sooner or later, 'Pring gonna be TRIFILING!! ❤😉
Just looking at cross references online. Maybe Rhys will play the creepy Dr. Brown (Harry Basch) that had such a small role in What Are Little Girls Made Of? I also think they will have to address the fate of La'an. I get the distinct feeling her "exit" will be very interesting.
Ortegas absolutely was in that scene. She was on the bridge with Una, making the ocmments when they beamed down 'That was quick,' and something about shore leave. So Ortegas most definitely did not die with the Gorn, thankfully!
We know from Disco that holodeck technology technically exists… maybe they find a theme park that has the “world’s first holodeck.” Could also have a dream sequence for a black & white noir episode. Fever dream, etc
Because my theory that we'd meet Chekov with his parents since he's just a young teenager at this point in the timeline, my mind can't shake the idea that Darby is playing Andrei Chekov.
There's a possibility that you haven't mentioned, Sean. There is another Mitchell (the last name mentioned in the clip and repeated by you early in this video) in Star Trek. A legacy character who was James T. Kirk's best pal before Spock. A certain Gary Mitchell. Then again, it could be Finnegan, former rival/pain-in-the-neck prankster of Kirk from Starfleet Academy. Imagine that character making a return via hologram in the upcoming Starfleet Academy....
Sean, did you not pay attention to the other clip released that showed Pike, Chapel, Le Ann and Uhura Vulcanised? Ortegas was on the bridge in it: (She said "That was fast," & "I thought this would be a bit more exciting. Whatever. Hello Shore Leave.")... and you reviewed it! I think you answered your own question about Ortega 's survival already.
I did actually think about whether Rhys Darby could play Trelane. If the writers stick to the whole “Trelane is a Q” thing, he could potentially make Kirk and Spock forget they ever met him. I mean, Q used to completely reset or change events all the time. Also, in “Those Old Scientists” last season, when Mariner scares Boimler in the shuttle, he yells “Holy Q!” to which Mariner said something like, “Don’t mention Q! They don’t know about him yet, they have a sort of Trelane thing going on.” So, I wonder if she actually wasn’t referring to “The Squire of Gothos” but an earlier event.😉
Has anyone said, "Mickey Mouse Phone" yet? That's an iconic thing from the past that comes to my mind, and would it stir the pot (or cauldron!) I would love to see Doctor Boyce--such a good character that deserves more screen time. After all, who wants a warm martini?
I would say that Darby's comedic skills would be what they hired him for. And since we have already seen Harry Mudd, my money is on Cyrano Jones! How's that for a fancast?
They will need to include the Cage episode within this season or the following ones if they plan to have five seasons. Additionally, did they talked of increasing the number of episodes in future seasons.
Always, always happy to hear Johnny Frakes is directing. Actors always talk about his style in a very positive way
When I saw this, my immediate thought was Trelane, especially given Darby's turn in Our Flag Means Death.
I think of him from the Xero adverts. Now was there any Australian / New Zealander sounding legacy characters.
Absolutely! He'd fill the role to a T, both in personality and appearance
100% thought of Trelane for the exact same reason! I can't imagine him as anyone else right now. (But I'm open to being surprised.)
That was my husband's first guess.
However, he still confuses Stede & Aziraphale. 😆

That edit for Seán Speculates is just SUPERB!!! 🤣
Got distracted by the "Seán Speculates" animation. What were we talking about? haha
I'm gonna go ahead and guess "Cyrano Jones" for Darby
So exciting. Really looking forward to future Ups and Downs eps. Bring it on!
Children of Sarak band meeting.
Spock? Yep
Michael? Obviously, why do I have to say that I'm here?
And Sybok, present. See even I do it.
Sarek.
I was thinking maybe Sybok since they had the pirate linked to him....and to me, he kind of resembles Ethan Peck
I’m with you!!! Any of those characters from original Trek would be great!!!!
Didn't a super soldier bounce a shuttle off the Enterprise's shields in TNG?
@@mikespangler98 probably. This is just a general rule of thumb. Most of the time the writers/directors just do whatever the hell they want whether it makes sense or not.
I'm going to guess Finnigan from Shore Leave. He's a legacy character that we've only seen as a robot with virtually no back story.
He looks like he could either be, Ben Finney, Matthew Decker or Finnegan.
What I want to see is the Cliffhanger resolution.
Looks like Lt. Bailey from The Corbomite Maneuver 😊
How about a certain Trader from Station K-7!
They may not have the Holodeck but they do have the Rec Room
Love Trelane! That was a great episode! So was Gary Seven! You guys are coming up with some good choices!
I am really excited because I have really enjoyed Rhys Darby in everything that I have seen him in.
Hey Sean...how about Ensign Lee Kelso for a legacy character. Original pilot helmsman.
Really really looking forward to the next season.
Darby = Commodore Decker
We know from Disco that holodeck technology technically exists… maybe they find a theme park that has the “world’s first holodeck.”
Could also have a dream sequence for a black & white noir episode. Fever dream, etc
Because my theory that we'd meet Chekov with his parents since he's just a young teenager at this point in the timeline, my mind can't shake the idea that Darby is playing Andrei Chekov.
Rhys is too young for Boyce. Boyce was older than Pike
ST:SNW has been a most excellent series. Great characters, super directing, interesting stories and super SFX. I just love it/
Darby: Gary Mitchell? One of the others from "The Cage" like Tyler? Finnigan? Kevin Riley? Garth of Izar?
I believe since there's so many battle scenes going on that Darby might play a younger version of Admiral Decker from the Doomsday episode
Film noir episode? “It was a quiet night on the Enterprise…Too quiet if you ask me…”😸
There's a possibility that you haven't mentioned, Sean.
I pulled my old atari st out of storage... going to clean it up :p
You have not seen OFMD?!?!?! HOW?!?!?!? It came out when during the pandemic and it was wonderful!
Live logs and proper dude. Great video.
That's an iconic thing from the past that comes to my mind, and would it stir the pot (or cauldron!)
I would love to see Doctor Boyce--such a good character that deserves more screen time. After all, who wants a warm martini?
Bones? I don’t think there’s an actor alive that can top Karl Urban taking over that role from the late great DeForest Kelley.
I so want to use that pickup line at my next con!
Why are people suggesting Roger Korby? Sean points out at 7:30 that Cillian O’Sullivan will be playing Korby.
Trek culture the best and only place to get my trek news
I would say that Darby's comedic skills would be what they hired him for. And since we have already seen Harry Mudd, my money is on Cyrano Jones! How's that for a fancast?
My first guess would be Dr McCoy
That was my first guess too, but is he the right age? And McCoy only joined the Enterprise after Kirk was allready Captain.
He is a good actor but usually plays comedy roles.
@@nicolajohnson1887 Bones:Was I a joke to you?
Bones was one of the most consistently funny characters in Star Trek
Roger Korby.
As Sean said in the video, he’s definitely *not* Roger Korby. Paramount has already announced that Cillian O'Sullivan will play Korby.
Check out Flight of the Conchords, absolutely great show and Rhys Darby is awesome in it.
If they could correctly pull off a comedic noir, SNW would have something iconic on their hands.
Love the shirt, Sean.
"We don't have a trailer for season 2 yet" I take it you meant season 3
Where is ortegas? I actually enjoyed this! Probably short lived, oh well. Gene Rodenberry LOVED...
They will need to include the Cage episode within this season or the following ones if they plan to have five seasons. Additionally, did they talked of increasing the number of episodes in future seasons.
