I like how the script changes from "torture" to "enhanced interrogation" when talking about the us
I did actually put "enhanced interrogation" in quotation marks in the script to try and highlight that this is how the US prefer to describe it, but maybe should have adressed this in a more obvious way.

I'd love to see Simon talk about this personally. It sounds SUPER interesting. Maybe on a Casual Criminalist. The length would probably be longer, and it'd be a nice break from the horrible serial killers. Not to mention Simon likes heist stories.
@William Rosenbloom Amazon prime has it as well. It's just called Bug Out. I don't want to give spoilers but the guy that made the doc did a fantastic job at displaying the "facts" the way the public was viewing them at first.
@Arc it def feels more like causal criminalist content, I love brain blaze so its why i mentioned it here but I think the audience of either channel would like it. He def likes his heists for causal criminalist. Though I feel like it's more the story of a narcissistic drug addict's fall. I don't wanna say too much for those who haven't seen.

Simon I love you and all but we need the original format back of this. When you stood up for hours on end and yelled at everything then attempted to insult me. I remember seeing a documentary many years ago. The man to be executed wanted to be hung, or shot. He wanted to donate his organs, & you can't if you are executed with electric, gas, or injection.
They could cure world hunger this way but to each their own

Simon - please, please, please do a video on James Mitchell "Mike" DeBardeleben - I thought this when you mentioned The Casual Criminalist in this video. Also, the other day on the Casual Criminalist you mentioned something about the Secret Service in the US handling money counterfeiting crimes. DeBardeleben was initially chased down by the Secret Service because he was a very successful counterfeit criminal - they even nicknamed him "the mall passer". However, after they arrested him, they discovered many more crimes - with the help of the FBI, he was prosecuted for a litany of crimes. They actually didn't try him for most of the crimes he committed and the authorities said that he committed pretty much every felony that's on the books.
OMG, the rat one. I knew about it, but I was finishing reading 1984 last night, so its been on my mind. For me it was an interesting time for this episode to come out

I used to wonder why lethal injection was so complicated. We have anesthesia that can put someone to sleep and then during the entire surgery it is one person's only job to monitor the levels and give the person just enough to stay asleep but not enough to die. Why not just do that but then turn it up a bit? Seems like it would be infinitely less complex than riding that line like they do thousands of times everyday.
Then I realized the only people who would care about making the procedure simpler and more humane are instead trying to remove capital punishment entirely and the only ones who are left couldn't care less about being humane, so why bother.
There's also the fact that a trained anesthesiologist is a doctor, and doctors tend to prefer to not kill their patients, so you end up with people with little to no qualifications doing the procedure.

Good news Simon - firing squad is definitely still an option in some places. The chemicals required for lethal injections are hard to obtain as companies don't want to be associated with it. So some places brought back firing squads as an option.

I got discharged from the navy in 2006 and signed up with a security company that did oil field protection in Iraq part of the training involved torture and interigation resistance I was doing well with being slapped, and hung upside down while water poured on my feet but the sleep deprivation and stress position broke me . Crouch with my head placed on a wall and my hands bound behind my back if I slipped I got a cane to the soul of my feet if I fell asleep they would let me drift off for 5 minutes then wake me with an air horn this went on for 3 days until I called quits I lasted as long as most of the other trainees but I got discharged by the psychiatrist I was showing signs of ptsd

The actual most humane execution is the guillotine. More gruesome for the watchers but actually very quick and painless for the executed.

i've wondered about the seeming frequency of botched lethal injection. isn't our understanding of anesthesia fairly mature since we use it so much. it seems like we should be able to get that part done, and if one uses too much wouldn't the consequence be death?
or maybe blow someone up but require that the shock wave be strong enough to destroy everything and the speed of the blast be faster than neurons can transmit information. on paper it seems like no suffering, though i admit it does seem worse maybe because of the overly violent nature, but i guess what the public thinks would be a factor. i guess in the past inflicting pain was sometimes part of the goal and sometimes not...what confusing times. well maybe at some point it will globally not be considered an option (the past was the worse) but it's surprising how pockets of different eras exist in spots all over the world, some far and some near. :-/

😂 Great news Simon. I was born with perfect teeth. I gave myself that tiny little spit gap on purpose as a kid. All you need to do is take a fairly large paperclip and slowly work it in between your top front teeth then when it is poking out the back of your teeth, slowly rotate it in circles increasing in angle like when you do circles with your arms when you do warm ups. To this day I have perfect teeth but the very, very tiny gap remains 😁😁
