In 1992 my mother donated a kidney to my dad. At the time it was a big news story because my dad was the most rare blood type and my mother happened to be a universal donor and at the time of the diagnosis, one of his kidneys had completely shut down and the other was working at 50% so he was weeks from having to go on dialysis and placed on donor list. From time to time my mom playfully threatens to leave him and take her kidney back.

I got a great story for you, trust me.
Back in the late 80s early 90s a cop finds a man riding his son's bike drunk. The cop attempts to arrest the drunk, he resists and the cop tases him. While on the ride to the jail the drunk harrasses the cop, swearing and asking him if he's into (one that if not illegal is highly looked down on) porn. The cop and the drunk were only a few years apart, grew up in the town and were both white.
Here's the best part: the drunk tried suing the city for police brutality, and he was on city council or was the mayor at the time. His lawyer heard the tape of the arrest and said "You will not win."
He was one of the good cops we've had. We've had some crappy ones, like one who got injured (not on the job) but she can't ever be a cop again and the city needs to pay her health insurance for life. She wasn't ever good at the thing she couldn't do anymore.

@@christinebenson518 there was a local cop in a small town I used to live in who fired a “warning shot” AT a “suspect” in a jaywalking (yeah. I know. Not violent, not actually a crime in the town due to, ya know, no crosswalks even at the only light for many many miles… not to mention the whole, you know, don’t fire a warning shot into the person you are attempting to warn?) so anyway, his partner pulled his weapon, pointed at the shooter, and arrested him. A cop. Arrested a cop. For exactly the right reason. Guess who lost their job? Yeah, the partner. The trigger happy guy is still a cop. Luckily I’ve moved away. Oh, the “suspect” was not asked to stop, the cop never identified himself, and also wasn’t even racially similar to the “jaywalker” in any way (approximately 5’1 “jaywalker” was black, probably her only crime, and “suspect” was a 6’ white guy.) I was the “suspect”. Couldn’t sue, couldn’t do anything but issue a formal written complaint which was tossed in a trash can literally right in front of me. The shot went into my thigh, then into a house, where it caused some property damage but luckily nobody was home. Homeowner sued for the damages and won. My leg is never going to work the same way again. I do keep in touch with the partner though. I was his best man last month. And he’s a detective for the state police now.

In some of the lawsuit cases out of the States it's important to keep in mind that some of those lawsuits are not meant to be won - they're a requirement for homeowners insurance to do it's job. like the Aunt who had to sue her nephew - it was the only way to get the homeowners insurance of her nephew's parents to pay for her medical bills after her personal insurance stopped paying. It's insane but that's the states for you

There are kind of similar laws in Mexico. The rationale being that gifts given to a partner are donations towards the common goal of marriage/having a family/live together. In some states, (Or maybe all. IDK I'm not a lawyer) you can claim any donation you've done to any individual or organization if the purpose of said donations is not being accomplished. And since a divorce or even breaking up with your partner of years, clearly means there is no longer any intention to go towards the previously established goals of having a relationship, you can ask for the gifts to be given back, obviously only in cases where the gifts can be given back.
Also, if this applies to donating organs, I would assume donating an organ counts as a donation towards keeping the person alive not maintaining a relationship.

If she was so sensitive, she should’ve had a sign or note on her door saying, “don’t ring the bell or knock after 7pm, it frightens me”. I would argue that difference between being a parttime cashier at Walmart vs at Sainsbury's is the way the company treats you, not the customer service job. I used to be a full time first shift stock employee at Walmart and I occasionally got the employee of the month award. They liked me. Then I got pregnant. I am not exaggerating when I say I had my doctor AND the government worker's board sending them strongly worded letters in the latter half of my pregnancy and went off on maternity many weeks earlier than I had planned due to stress because as soon as I was pregnant I was undesirable employee number 1. Never let me have my appointment days off no matter how much notice they got OR changed my schedule last minute to accommodate but didn't tell me, causing me to miss a shift I wasn't aware of (thank goodness I took timestamped photos of the schedule).
    2. Rescheduled important equipment re-certification training after I told them when my hospital ultrasound was scheduled for, causing me to miss training, and then told me I was no longer eligible to work my position because of the missed training.
    3. The position they wanted to put me in was not guaranteed full time and didn't have a set schedule, where as my previous position was full time 7am starts across the board.
    4. They had a nurse in another province who had never met me "evaluating my case" and determining that I wasn't actually eligible to be off on maternity yet and trying to sue me back to work. This would have caused me to lose the rest of my 12 months of maternity benefits.

Simon is right about the contract. In common law, an exchange of "consideration" -- that is, something of value -- is necessary to create a legally binding contract. While there are many other grounds on which this case might have been dismissed, if Jesse admitted in his filing that there was no such payment, the judge can dismiss it without argument in about 5 minutes.
Oh, and if you're wondering how American cops get away with all their shit, look up "qualified immunity". It's almost impossible to hold a cop either criminally or civilly liable for anything they do, no matter how obviously atrocious.

The organ gets shipped by plane from a very poor country in Africa or South America, the surgery happens in a very expensive hospital in a country that gets a lot of cash from rich tourism, Mexico City for example. In the end it might cost less than a legal transplant would for someone uninsured in the US.
(It depends on if it's a kidney transplant, something someone very poor was paid for, or a heart transplant taken from a former kidney donor that they had tested and knew was compatable. The main cost is laundering the organ though somewhere that looks legitimate, and you might not even know it was harvested illegally if you were sold an "organ matching service" or similar.)

Simon, you really have no idea how suing cops works in the 'good ole' U.S. of A... They have this thing called
    Qualified Immunity:
This doctrine, invented by the Court out of whole cloth, not an action of congress, immunizes public officials even when they commit legal misconduct unless they violated 'clearly established law' ie. case law on a district court level, not even just a case in the USA.
That standard is incredibly difficult for civil rights plaintiffs to overcome because the courts have required not just a clear legal rule, but a prior case on the books with 'functionally identical facts'.

If the police shoot someone, the officer nor the department are on the hook for the bill. The citizens of the town, city, county, state, etc., whatever level of government they work for pay for the lawsuit damages. It's strongly suspected to be one of the reasons this shit keeps happening because shooting someone, even to death, is rarely enough to warrant an officer getting fired, let alone pay out the damages they caused. For example, the police officer that shot a black man eating ice cream in his own home after work, she broke into his apartment, while she was drunk, pulled out her pistol and shot the guy to death as he sat in the chair. She thought it was her apartment. She got less than ten years. Breanna Taylor who was shot to death while asleep, the officer that shot her only received punishment for the bullet the exited the home and struck the neighbor's house. That's it.

I was raised by paranoid parents. If someone left cookies on the doorstep in a sealed package he would have gone into an angry rant about how he wasn't dumb enough to let them poison him. Followed by telling everyone he met that someone tried poison him.
I didn't have his level of paranoia when I started working at Walmart. Now I'm actively fighting becoming equally as paranoid. The environment of customer service encourages paranoia. My dad wasn't this bad before working in fast food after a while he became increasingly paranoid.
