Thank you for the details and math behind things, I used to make excel spreadsheets with monster hunter tri to figure out my max lance damage in the past so I'm glad to have you guys. Thanks for the effort you put in the videos.
This was a great and insightful video, but I have one issue. When you guys say “sloppy” I take it to mean that you’re not hitting weak points consistently. With Blast in particular it can be very useful to hit potentially sub par zones to help break parts with the Blast procs. When you’re farming parts. In instances like this I’d call it “farming” play instead of using the catchall of “sloppy”. Anyway great video, I’m on pins and needles waiting to see what the Elemental video is like.
I think they mean that the sets get "better" if you don't have as much skill. The blast can help you get better times than if you were to use the super meta set that requires you hit the head 100% of the time. I could be wrong though.
So for the Shining Star meta set Tuna talks about, if you don’t have an attack jewel+ 4, you can remove expert and ironwall to put an ironwall/expert jewel 4 where the attack jewel is, then simply put two attack jewel 1’s where expert and ironwall were.

quick question: why use master's touch when monsters leave the area every 3-5 minuites? can't u just sharpen between areas? i usually play solo gs, just looking at lance for another weapon to use.
Have you timed out sleep animations vs paralysis durations? Because I think there are times (especially in MP) where sleep wins that matchup by a lot, especially since para gets shorter with successive applications and the sleep animation doesn't AFAIK.

With what you said about free element on the acidic glavenus set, I'm curious about what kind of builds there are for dragon element on the shara lance, since that lance has such huge values for both raw and elemental damage.
The main reason I'm interested in a good build for it is because it outdoes both Savage Jho and Blackveil Vaal in both raw and element if awaken is on the build. We'll see the actual comparisons on the element vid I suppose.
So, something I wonder now is on a long hunt like (the final boss), would it ever be worth it to run in with a status weapon, whack the monster a few times, then farcaster out and quickly switch to a raw set once the status has started to apply a bunch of DR?

Totally agree. I tried a Sleep Lance build with gold ratian true status and I manage to proc 4-5 sleeps on most monsters, it means 4-5 wallhits, more Agitator uptime and in the Guiding Land it means A LOT of free material on the ground. It’s not optimal for DPS but it’s pretty decent.
How come no Guard 3, Guard up, Flinch Free sets? I find this setup to be great for multiplayer as you don't have 100% control over what the enemy is doing or eating all of it's aggression.
Something to really take note here is that, these are the best DPS status sets. Not, the best status inflicting sets. for those you would use things like crit status. Also something to take note, if you are watching is that, generally speaking for most hunters purple sharpness is good. Even if you can't maintain it. Most of JinJinx and Tuna's sets are about best DBS for a speedy run. So in a normal hunt you are sharpening your weapon etc, thus making things like Master's Touch not a necessity. Taking that into account and the fact that there are large whetfish scales in the game, you might actually get better results with a set that doesn't rely on Master's Touch. Assuming you are going for more of a casual runs, rather than trying your outmost to hit weakspots and maintaining sharpness. Atleast that's my take on this. I wouldn't personally use any of these sets as long as I'm not worrying about "how long the overall hunt is" You might actually get higher DPS for a short time, but lose on the actual hunt time, because you start losing sharpness and other factors. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Your assumptions would be correct if it weren't for the fact that you basically gain nothing from not running master's touch. At least in terms of damage, you actually lose damage skills running a non master's touch DPS set with Razor Sharp charm instead of a Master's touch set. The Kaiser set is still very efficient and losing a charm slot is very expensive, 4 handicraft/agitator/attack boost expensive. And even if you literally never hit a weakpoint, you get as much sharpness out of MT as you do on a Razor Sharp set. Master's Touch at 50% affinity = Razor Sharp. Which MT sets hit even when hitting weakpoints 0% of the time. Polish sets also lose damage compared to MT sets due to having to run Polish and Item Prolonger 3 to get 90 second long polishes. Then you also want to run whetfish+ fins, but with only 90 second long polishes on 6-9 minute average hunts thats about 4-6 polishes on average to compelte a hunt. Maybe a bit less if your weapon has a decent amount of sharpness but then you end up investing a lot of handicraft to get that which drops your damage lower. Or you run a high natural sharpness weapon instead of a 20-30 unit of good sharpness weapon and lose out on damage that way. And polish by nature gets better the cleaner your play is because you get more hits out during the polish, which makes it worse the more 'casual' your runs get. Even then, you end up sacrificing too much to make it worth it especially because you have to stop to sharpen every 90 seconds. As opposed to a MT set that has more damage skills AND never needs to sharpen or maybe needs to sharpen 1-2 times if you whiff weakpoints a lot. TL;DR: MT is simultaneously the best for sharpness mitigation and has the most efficient damage builds while making no sacrifices. It's simply overtuned. The only real exception to this is that Ruiner Nergigante weapons can on some slower hitting weapons have enough sharpness to not need to sharpen before a monster transitions. 110 white is not bad, but also not nearly enough to kill a monster. But it also doesn't gain enough skills to beat MT options, as we've shown in other videos like the hammer videos.
Yea. Those are DPS builds on status weapons. But most of the time in multi you dont want everyone with max DPS sets. I really love my CritPara/Slug5 Hammer set while my friend runs max DPS bow sets. Status are inherently made to support.
@@JinJinxandTuna its more a question of status being made to support not to inflicts max DPS. A true crit blast set can keep getting constant procs even when the build up is at the maximum.

As for the natural purple, you'd actually only sharpen when you go to white, not when the 90secs is over. Am I the only one who doesn't bother with flinch free on lance even in multiplayer? With the lance's reach and positioning ability I honestly don't find it to be that big of a deal. Just play smart and don't crowd the same spots as everyone else.
I seriously don't get why you people keep talking about Flinch Free in every single set when it comes to playing online with them, like seriously, unless you are playing with randoms who don't understand weapon positioning and are just wailing at the monster randomly, you are never gonna need Flinch Free! At most you'll get a random accidental flinch per hunt if any and even that is rare considering you play with players who know what they are doing and you are taking advantage of the super armor during power guard or whatever form of super armor the weapon you are using gives you... PS: About the Acidic Glavenus lance, there's something important you have to note... Paralysis will keep the monster in place, making it MUCH easier to consistently hit weakspots (especially on things that move around a LOT like Odogaron or even Raths), meaning not that hard to maintain the sharpness since you aren't whiffing on hits, plus despite being 2-3% weaker than Nergigante, don't forget that paralyzed monsters take 10% more damage from attacks (which shouldn't need saying but I'll say it, 10% damage boost on 770EFR is HUGE, it can potentially hit 850EFR), which more than makes up for it having just a tiny bit less RAW without an element and depending on matchup can easily outdamage the other sets, especially if you manage to get the paralysis right after Offensive Guard activates!
@@WillowEpp I have teamed up with them, even randoms who don't understand MH isn't a hack and slash game, never had an issue, just position yourself away from them, not that hard, and like I said you can also take advantage of super armor as well, so yeah... ONLY thing that trips a lot and MAY need Flinch Free for is the arrow rain when there's a bow user that is aiming for the head when you are too, but besides that, you won't get flinched. If anything, LS and IG are slower than lance pokes, so you can actually even take advantage of them hitting you by going poke→counter (triggering Offensive Guard off of their hit)→poke→poke→etc., doesn't even take that much skill to pull it off honestly and counter has double the MV of standard pokes and will triger if LS user is ~80° or less from your front which is all the time, with no delay on top since you are hit instantly, so even without OG it still only boosts your damage without needing Flinch Free since counters also give you super armor negating any flinching in the case the LS or IG is behind you somehow.

No amount of positioning can help when yu plau with 3 long sword mains
@@lainling yep the only times you can die with lance is of some else triggers your couter
Hey, everybody, I found the person who's never teamed up with a longsword or insect glaive!
Before i watch the entire thing let me say this : FIRSSSSST
