  • United Cutlery sent me one of the most unique swords in all the Lord of the Rings trilogy - Gúthwinë, the sword of Éomer! I'll give an up-close look at this replica and compare it to Andúril and Herugrim - another Rohan sword!
    Check out this and Middle-earth United Cutlery products here!: bit.ly/3GXNB9f
    Gúthwinë, Sword of Éomer: bit.ly/3GXNB9f
    Helm of Éomer: bit.ly/3FRrn7f
    Official Description:
    Éomer was a captain of the king’s cavalry, Marshal of the Mark, and one of Rohan’s mightiest warriors. He skillfully wielded his royal sword, Gúthwinë, and used it to slay many Orcs and Uruks of Isengard that dared trespass into Rohan. He bravely fought alongside King Theoden against the forces of Mordor at the battle of Helm’s Deep and on the Pelennor Fields. In the final stand against the dark lord Sauron, Éomer fought alongside Aragorn with the armies of Rohan and Gondor at the Gates of Mordor. This authentically detailed replica is a reproduction of the actual filming prop built by Weta Workshop and used in The Lord Of The Rings films presented by New Line Cinema. This 34” long sword was made using only the finest grade materials and craftsmanship available. It features brass-finished, cast metal hilt parts, a genuine leather-wrapped grip, and a 27” stainless steel blade with engraved fuller grooves.
    While this was sent to me by a vendor, I was under no obligation to give this item a positive review. Any praise/criticism in my reviews is my genuine opinion/thoughts. If you are surprised that I really enjoy a LOTR piece of memorabilia, you really shouldn't be. :)

      next I highly recommend checking out Eowyn's sword it's my favorite of the 3 Eorl swords. I did a review on my channel.
      Also my Eomer sword came with shrink wrap on it... it's the only weapon from UC I've gotten that way and I also got all my swords new

    Guthwine was never my favorite sword (I didn’t like the idea of a design that forced some metal of the blade to remain exposed to the elements), but this gives me a new appreciation for it. Weta really nailed the distinct feel of each culture’s weaponry.

    @whyidontwant2723 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Wall hangers tend to be heavier than actual weapons as they are just for show. You would be amazed at how light a properly made real sword is in the hand.

    • @lalli8152
      @lalli8152 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah they tend to have thick blades, and no distal taper at all also shifting the balance point more blade heavy

  • @JimCullen
    @JimCullen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Just some points from someone who does HEMA. Those "grooves" are more properly called "fullers". So "Gúthwinë has a double fuller" would be one way of describing its features.
    Andúril is very much an archetypal longsword, which means it should *mostly* be used in two hands, although it can in some circumstances be wielded one handed during certain techniques. I can't speak to how your particular copy of Andúril handles, but in one hand it should obviously be much less wieldy than a sword made to be used single-handed. If used in it's correct two-handed way, if it's well-made it should feel pretty good. It's never going to be as snappy as a rapier, but it shouldn't feel like wielding a hammer.

    Hey guy! Thanks for another fun video - I’d love if you could dig up all the rings of power they used to make back in the day. The Noble Collection once offered all the elven rings of power, a dwarven ring, a ring of men - and The Witch King even got his own ring! Many of these are now scattered among other suppliers, discontinued or extortionately expensive. But if you dare to embark on this journey, the search is on!

    Best sword design in the trilogy in my opinion. Beowulf or Sigurd would be proud to wield this sword; it's very much like the swords in literature that inspired Tolkien. If they made a fully functional version of this sword, I would happily buy one.

    I love how enthusiastic you are about your favorite race/people amongst the films and books. I for one gravitate more closely to "The Hobbitsess ". I own own Frodo's version of Sting + scabbard and most recently purchased The Sword of Samwise from UC. I also own a custom replica of The Green Dragon Inn Sign as well as several of the Hobbit holes and the Parchment Art Print of The Shire from Daniel Reeves from Weta Workshop (NZ).
    I guess you could say "I think, in my heart, I'm still in love with the Shire: the woods, the fields… little rivers." Plus I have a infinitive reputation for food and...the growing and smoking of pipe weed and brewing of ales 🍻.

      Its i think very clearly inspired by migration era swords anglo-saxon or something like that. those swords indeed might have come from roman spatha, but it just might be many cultures at that time just used similar blade shapes, and such. Interestingly i think how Tolkien visioned his world i think he had that period in mind how items, and such should look. The movies basicly mix very much that earlier period look with higher middle ages. So the rohans armor, weapons and all that looks more ancient where as condors more medieval anduril for example late medieval longsword inspired

    Unfortunately I've cut wood my while life to this day, worked with wood, own chainsaw, chopping/splitting axes, heavy duty carbon steel machetes, so I have refrained from purchasing these lotr replicas as I would be too tempted to use them, test them, and I would ruin expensive things meant to be aesthetically, visually pleasing. So I've put my funds through tools I can use, axes that can be used and thrown and not be ruined, but o what fun it would be to use this one as a machete. Mostly I lusted after Gimlie's bearded axe, looking into that axe was when I discovered I would immediately break it in two, lol. Maybe one day I'll forget my own, I am yet only 37, and forging may once again be a thing of everyday life soon, sadly. Love your channel brother

I feel we miss a lot of your expression and reaction because your eyes are in shadow...or maybe it's just that I have terrible vision! Anyway, I don't know your reasons for wearing a hat in the first place, and I'm not here to say I wish you didn't wear one at all, but maybe one that doesn't create a shadow on your face might give us a closer experience of how you experience the unboxing! @@deanzaZZR Oh! You're absolutely right! And a short sword is easier to carry while on a horse, rather than a long blade like Anduriel. Still, lose your spear and a short sword on horseback, again, is easier to wield than long swords. Thanks for pointing that out, buddy! I LOVE hanging out with fantasy/medieval nerds! 😉

      @@CybershamanX The longswords in the LotR movies shouldn't even be there. Tolkien was writing about a time that predated them. In the books it's all about shields and maille (no plate armor) and you don't use two handed swords with shields. Even Gimli, a warrior from a race of smiths and craftsmen just has a maille hauberk, iron cap, and a axe (probably more like a smaller Dane axe than the movie axe). The weapons and armor should be closer to early iron age Anglo Saxon/Norse/Frankish than high medieval.
