This might be the pinnacle of my TH-cam life. Watching this edit back just floors me, it doesn't feel real, totally surreal. An absolutely massive thank you to Darin for sharing his stunning art and craft and being so generous with his time. I've been obsessed with his work since I was eight years old, I can't really explain how special this was for me. A huge thank you to Richard & Tania, Louise and of course the almighty, incredible, super fantastic Jules who helped make this possible. You had made a little boy with wide eyes and big dreams very, very happy. I cannot wait to see where we go next!
I made a suit of armor based of the design of Theoden's, but I could only wish for my skills to be at that level. Of course, my budget was much, much smaller.
same boat as you! LOTR floored me age 11 when it hit cinemas, age 32 I am embarking on an original fantasy feature! these movies inspired me all my life! what an incredible opportunity to go to WETA
I know it probably wasn’t possible for security and preservation reasons but I would have absolutely loved to see an outdoor photo shoot with you in this armor!
Got so much second hand joy from watching you loving it man, this was awesome! Also helped me get more clarity on the colors and details for painting my Theoden too!
So happy for you man. We can feel your emotions coming out of the video. Obviously a huge fan. I enjoyed watching this as well as the sword one. Please do keep making more of these.
I could sit here for hours and listen to the WETA guys talking about what they did for the films and how, would love to see the design process for Sauron and the Nazgul including making the armour pieces and all that fantastic attention to detail! I'm glad you are getting these opportunites of a lifetime 😊
Amazing, Lachie. I love your videos and I am so happy for you to have visited WETA. What an amazing bucket list experience. Thank you for sharing it with all of us!
Wow, what a honour that was, congratulations lachie, that was quality. Being from East Anglia, Suffolk, in one of the main arteries of Anglo-Saxon England and 20 minutes away from Sutton Hoo, it's awesome seeing the influence of King Rædwald and the saxons had on Theodens Armour, helm and Sword and Rohan culture in general. Love the channel, look forward to more LOTR and MESBG content.
You lucky guy! The Rohan style of armour and weapons has always been my favourite out of the armour designs in LOTR. It was beautiful work, always reminded me of something that could’ve been unearthed at Sutton Hoo. And I much prefer the one handed style of sword, like a bigger gladius, than the long swords you find in Gondorian hands. And the original LOTR film armour makes the armour you see worn in the “rings of power” Amazon TV series look like armour bought in a poundshop (dollar store).
Too bloody right. Let’s not even talk about the printed cotton “scale” shirts. And the worst part about is Weta is literally right there! Amazon could have just given them a decent budget and done it right, instead of the half-assed rot they went with… Of course, the script, dialogue, framing and plot would still have been tripe, but at least it would have been good looking tripe.
Just when you thought there wasn't any more supplemental bonus footage to watch Zorpazorp comes through! Thank you so much WETA for allowing this to happen and giving us another glimpse into your magical world and the masters of craft that reside there! Brilliant!
Great listening to these Masters at work. A fitting reward to you Lachie for all your efforts in promoting the films and the hobby for all these years.
Bernard Hill (Theoden) is truly left handed and did u know that in 10:45 he had to hold his sword in his weak right hand? Bernard Hill said that he barely had his sword lifted with his right hand while clashing with other swords :D Theoden is awesome!
Gave me goose bumps watching as piece by piece you were transformed. As others have said, you just looked the part. The whole WETA series has been outstanding and something different!
A once in a lifetime experience, not many people can say they’ve worn that armor, less than a dozen I would be willing to bet. But the true joy you have being in the presence of the armor alone is palpable, you absolutely are radiant with joyful awe while in the armor!!
This is awesome! As a Wellingtonian who has been on a sabbatical from the hobby for 15 years (with the odd foray back), I think your videos are drawing me steadily back in...
what a moment ! So awesome to see the Weta Workers and the people that, beside the actors and peter jackson, really made the movies the way they are. I was quoting the speech of theoden at the end when the clip of it started playing and thought to myself, would be really awesome if you did it in the armor and then i saw you :D Not bad acting there as well !
The armor itself is its own character. Instantly recognizable and iconic. The same goes for the rest of the designs in the movies. Unfortunately artists like the ones who worked on the films aren't allowed to flourish like this in modern movie productions.
Love the videos with Weta. The inside and opportunity to allow the creators to speak in a longer form than what we get in most interviews is great! Thank you
I’m sitting beside my wife in a hospital waiting room, visiting her mom today. My wife is an EPIC LOTR fan - and we were both grinning and joy-laughing sharing your amazing moments 😍🤣 The dour woman on the other side of the room must have wondered at our giddiness. Btw, Mom’s in stable condition. Thanks for sharing your phenomenal experience - it made our day! 🎉😂❤
Absolutely loved this, what an experience it must have been. I was travelling around New Zealand from the UK when the movies were being made and there was a real anticipation at the time as to what they might look like. Whilst always hopeful I don't think anyone thought they would be as incredible as they were though and I love seeing stuff like this and the craftsmanship that went into it.
That must have been awesome! One of the things that blows my mind is literally every kiwi I chat to has some.connection of the films somehow, it really took over the whole country.
Awesome, what a privilege 👍 (a line from the dungeon scene in “Life of Brian” comes to mind - “ you lucky, lucky, Bast*rd” - so jealous). Keep these type of videos coming for as long as you can 😁👍 they are very much appreciated (almost as much as the builds and battle reports)
Ah that was great, as an old school larper (back in the day), I was lucky enough to see guys go from making latex swords with carbon fibre rods, progressing to working on movies like Troy and one thing they never lost was the joy of seeing their work appreciated and bring out the kid in people. These guys remind me of that.
So jealous & happy for you in equal measure, what an experience to have, and by someone who’ll treasure the memories and appreciate it’s significance, well done mate 😁
This is up there with some of the coolest stuff I've ever seen, and echoes a long time ago when I cosplayed boromir and got to chat to some of weta. (a long time ago, and maybe still if I win the lottery, I wanted to buy a few HA in NSW and build a larp-friendly pelennor fields battle). anyway, I'm just giving props for this above all else: this video allows any repro artist to remake with the ability to see all the beautiful details. I'd like to make this one day. Thank you.
I'd love to ask you if you would ask if they had any spare gondor belt buckles like for boromir, as I made the belt ages ago but sucked at casting the buckles so it's still technically unfinished
This is unbelievable! Theoden's armour is probably my favourite armour ever and you absolutely rock it, Lachie! Also it may be a good time to change your Facebook profile picture xD.
What’s this? A TH-camr lost for words? (Said in an Arwen voice) awesome video mate love love loved it. So great to see those close up shots of the armour it looked amazing!
Seeing your eyes light up as you were being dressed and then move with the suit on was great. I wear armour fairly regularly, and have been since before the movies were out. I kind of had forgotten how special it is. Thank you!
It's amazing the work on this armour. I really like your videos on weta it's also amazing to see how happy you look with that armour on.I am absolutely jealous! Continue the good work i really love your channel.
My friend who had scenes filmed on is family land gifted me 2 swords from the film. King Théoden's sword and Éomer's sword. Beautiful pieces of workmanship.
Zorpazorps thinking “ turns out my wedding was the second best day of my life”. Honestly dude I’m so pleased you got this experience! Keep up the good work
As a cosplayer seeing this armour is 👌 I'm currently working on Elrond and there's some similarities between things like the armour attaching etc. Id love to make something using metal just to put leather on metal as it looks completely amazing!
What a glorious day! Getting to wear Theoden's armor must have been such a thrill! Congratulations on creating a career that put you on such a trajectory!
The dedication and hard work that made this movies possible was something that no other generation would see again. I feel privileged to be a teen when this piece of art came out in cinemas.
as a reasonable practical sort I saw Theoden's armour on screen and thought 'well thats brass plated steel, they probably did the wire brush trick!' no they made a whole suit of brass armour. its heavier and more expensive but I have to say, its very weather resistant! that actually makes me wonder if rust would stain the leather if you failed to oil some leather bound armour. one would imagine the kings armour would be very well taken care of though.
Cool stuff bro welcome to Wellington can't believe I still haven't been to check out weta yet and it's like a half hour drive from me I remember wen I was kid wen they built helms deep at the bottom of the gorge was always so cool to drive past look forward to seeing what you get up to in new zealand

Not shown is security forcibly removing the armour and ejecting Zorp from the premises.
I made a suit of armor based of the design of Theoden's, but I could only wish for my skills to be at that level. Of course, my budget was much, much smaller.
It looks great on you dude! Bucket list item done!

I know it probably wasn’t possible for security and preservation reasons but I would have absolutely loved to see an outdoor photo shoot with you in this armor!
I love listening the original Weta workers who worked on lotr films. Please, if they'll allow it, continue interviewing them, I'm all for it!
Me too mate, it's incredible stuff. Glad you enjoyed it.
I second this! Please do keep making these, enjoyed watching so much!
You are, without doubt, the luckiest man alive.
Sure felt like it mate, was utterly surreal.
Most def you look the part! So happy for you mate :) Full Armour does feel so amazing on and more flexible than expected :)
This. He is living a dream. Bravo
You know you love Lord of The Rings when even that ending sequence still gives you chills.
Got so much second hand joy from watching you loving it man, this was awesome! Also helped me get more clarity on the colors and details for painting my Theoden too!
Awesome! Thank you mate!
Like a little kid in the most amazing candy shop ever 🤣What an amazing experience, you'r a very lucky guy!
Couldn't agree more! Was amazing
Wearing a piece of history there mate. Unbelievably lucky
and fantasy!
So happy for you man. We can feel your emotions coming out of the video. Obviously a huge fan. I enjoyed watching this as well as the sword one. Please do keep making more of these.

Thank you mate, me too!!
Fantastic video mate. Great to see magic from inside the workshop, and you looked positively over the moon :)
I was hahaha, over the SUN
Amazing, Lachie. I love your videos and I am so happy for you to have visited WETA. What an amazing bucket list experience. Thank you for sharing it with all of us!
It was incredible mate, mental stuff.

Awesome. I love seeing the creative people behind the scenes.
This was one of the most genuine moments I've seen on this website.
Cheers Morgan :)

Great listening to these Masters at work. A fitting reward to you Lachie for all your efforts in promoting the films and the hobby for all these years.
Many thanks Kili 😍
Absolutely stunning and I am so pleased you got to have this experience! Your really tempting me with a Rohan army again! Keep up the good work!
Thank you mate :) :)

I was smiling right along with you, I appreciate that you understand how cool this was to experience. Living a LOTR nerd's dream!
This is awesome! As a Wellingtonian who has been on a sabbatical from the hobby for 15 years (with the odd foray back), I think your videos are drawing me steadily back in...
Yessssss, get in touch with George Costello and the New Zealand Middle Earth League Facebook pages mate and see yoynat an event soon!!!
Love Theodens armour, the idea of leather over plate not only looks great but seems super sensible to absorb the force of a blow without vibrating
what a moment ! So awesome to see the Weta Workers and the people that, beside the actors and peter jackson, really made the movies the way they are.
I was quoting the speech of theoden at the end when the clip of it started playing and thought to myself, would be really awesome if you did it in the armor and then i saw you :D
Not bad acting there as well !
Was struggling not to burst out into giggles I ruined so many takes hahaha, thanks though mate
Man, I am so jealous
The detail and effort put into every inch of armour, house and background is such a massive part of what makes LOTR so special
It is incredible isn't it
The armor itself is its own character.
Thank you
This was AWESOME! I’m so very happy for you, for this moment in life, when nothing else really matters…. That was truly amazing!
This is awesome !!!
Couldn't help but smile the entire gearing up. Your happiness was really contagious.
Haha thanks mate, it was just the craziest feeling haha
Super happy for ya! The work these guys did was incredible
Couldn't agree more!
Oh man, this is amazing! I absolutely loved it. Well done.. What a trip.
Man, what I wouldn’t give to have been there to help make those incredible films back in the day.
This is so cool!
Huge congratulations to you for getting to experience this - And a huge thank you for sharing it :D

Zorps looking like a happy child, so happy for you, man
Dude... you deserve this so much! Keep living the dream man!
Thank you! Will do!
That armour a masterpiece of design are craft. All the productions after the LOTR trilogy don't ever come close to this level of amazing detail.
Wow that was really cool! I really enjoyed seeing you so excited, guess a dream became reality that day
Man that is so cool!! Bucket list checked my friend! What an honor!!
Absolutely loved this, what an experience it must have been. What an amazing day that must have been! All thoroughly deserved of course, given the enormous efforts you've put into all things Middle Earth.
It would be beyond awesome if they 3D scanned you in armor so you can print a 120mm scale model for a terrain piece.
I'M NOT THE MESSIAH, I'M A VERY NAUGHTY BOY
Ah that was great, as an old school larper (back in the day), I was lucky enough to see guys go from making latex swords with carbon fibre rods, progressing to working on movies like Troy and one thing they never lost was the joy of seeing their work appreciated and bring out the kid in people. That was great Z. The best part was seeing you so happy. You earned it buddy.
I appreciate that Rick 🙃
That is insane bro! Must have been such an amazing experience!
@ 8:42 ish. LOVE the geekgasm. I shall live vicariously through you friend!
So jealous & happy for you in equal measure, what an experience to have, and by someone who’ll treasure the memories and appreciate it’s significance, well done mate 😁
Royal Guard is my favourite Rohirum armour.

you look like you were in heaven here zorp, congrats on getting to have such an awesome experience.
I was hahaha
Wooooaaahh so coooool, the look of joy when the helmet goes on. I am the most jealous man.
It wasnutterly crazy bro haha, that was the thumbnail I was doing last night hHa
@Zorpazorp nailed it man! Incredible
What’s this? A TH-camr lost for words? (Said in an Arwen voice) awesome video mate love love loved it. So great to see those close up shots of the armour it looked amazing!
Hahahahahaha cheers Alby 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Seeing your eyes light up as you were being dressed and then move with the suit on was great. I wear armour fairly regularly, and have been since before the movies were out. I kind of had forgotten how special it is. Thank you!
You are most welcome buddy
Now that was awesome. I am super jealous. Thanks for sharing!!!
It's amazing the work on this armour. I really like your videos on weta it's also amazing to see how happy you look with that armour on.I am absolutely jealous! Continue the good work i really love your channel.
Thank you very much!
Well, this is fortunate. Theoden is right now on my painting desk and this is some excellent reference material to get the colours right
My friend who had scenes filmed on is family land gifted me 2 swords from the film.
King Théoden's sword and Éomer's sword.
Beautiful pieces of workmanship.
That is amazing mate!!!
When you put the helmet on, it really completed it.
It's such a nice helmet although it didn't quite fit me perfectly!
Zorpazorps thinking “ turns out my wedding was the second best day of my life”. Honestly dude I’m so pleased you got this experience! Keep up the good work
Thankfully that has now been postponed three times so I don't have to lie to her...yet!
@@Zorpazorp Are they gonna let you borrow the armor for the ceremony? ;)
"You break it you buy it" "I'm fine with that, don't give me that option I'll do it!" 🤣🤣. King Lachie at the end, man this vid made my Monday 😁
I'm stoked Peter :)
Wait... that soldier is a background one? Damn its better than the costumes you see in most stuff and its just for the background lol
wow that was awesome i was smiling the whole time for you, That is so cool.
As a cosplayer seeing this armour is 👌 I'm currently working on Elrond and there's some similarities between things like the armour attaching etc. Id love to make something using metal just to put leather on metal as it looks completely amazing!
Brass is heavier than steel. A steel version of the suit, would potentially be lighter but there is thickness of the brass/steel components to factor.
What a glorious day! Getting to wear Theoden's armor must have been such a thrill! Congratulations on creating a career that put you on such a trajectory!
Thank you so much Ann, it was a very wild day indeed!
Epic goal achieved. Well done sir
Haha love to see you totally nerd out!! Awesome vid. 👍🏻😁
Ridiculous and awesome. Well done you and we’ll done Weta 🤯
Dude you are an absolute legend! This video is top notch Fandom and I love it!
Congrats man - sooooo happy for you Locke ! 🍷😏🔥
These weta videos are easily some of the best content ever to be on TH-cam!!
Ah thankyou mate
When I was a young man I thought Gondor was it. I'm old now and Edoras is where it's at.
Oh these words hit. Ooooft.
What? Is no one else obsessed with the elves???
Ah literal chills in the end. So so lucky dude.
I think Bernard Hill felt like a king wearing that armour 😊
The dedication and hard work that made this movies possible was something that no other generation would see again. I feel privileged to be a teen when this piece of art came out in cinemas.

Wow! What an amazing day for you! Love seeing that armor close up like this. A red day, Death!!
Okay, but when you pulled out your lovely brown curly locks, I couldn't help but think, 'now let's see this lad in some Gondorian armor!"
Wow! That was amazing! So happy for you!
Thanks so much!!
The jealousy is unreal. So happy for you to be able to do this man - such good stuff from weta! More please!
Cheers Hazza you are going to really like the next WETA one, getting my journo on haha
@@Zorpazorp HELL YEAH! You love to hear it! Can’t wait man - lots of rewatchability on these, short and sweet… but MOOOAR please!!

It made me happy to see you so happy 😊
Thank you mate that's such a nice comment 😍😍
Man that had to be one of the coolest things you have ever got to do.
Easily, the most I think haha
YOU LUCKY Explative Deleted!! I can't believe you got to wear Theodins armour! Even Adam Savage didn't get to do that! Greetings from Canada 🖖😁🤘
Gotta hand it to you, the loose hair really makes it. You'd have fit in perfectly as one of the hero extras.
Hahaha I would be proud to be a man of Rohan!
Congratulations to you, you looks so happy😂😂😂😂😂😂
That was really amazing to see everything beside, you look so much likr Rohirrim
Thank you so much!!
Loved the video man! Your channel has grown so much. Any Gondor love coming?
Thank you Isaac, not just yet but anything is possible ;)
WOW!! what else is there to say... this is freaking awesome!
Your smile !! You look like the luckiest man alive wearing that armour … I know I would be !! So awesome!! Love it !!
It's... the armor of the king of Rohan! Omg this is too awesome.
R.i.p. Bernard.
Wtf that is soooooo cool!!! Did you do this before or after Finals?? I feel like this probably gave you the Rohan mojo to roll such great dice 😂😂
After hahaha, yeah I was channeling it ;)
Now i NEED a mini of you in that armor leading my forces.
How did it come to this to build the biggest lotr board in youtube history Gamling?
hahahahahaha
I got goosebumps at the last scene!!!! Such a good an amazing script
It's an amazing poem, the full version is even better.
