The dwarven kind carried many axes, but none as powerful as the Bearded Axe of Gimli. This replica piece stretches a massive 34" and supports an 8" axe blade. This authentically detailed axe is a reproduction of the prop featured in The Lord of the Rings - "The Fellowship of the Ring" - presented by New Line Cinema. United Cutlery, the industry leader in fine film prop reproductions, has meticulously recreated the actual filming prop. The blade is cast of a stainless steel and features gold engravings and a weathered steel finish giving it a battle-worn appearance. Generally, fighting axes and woodcutting axes would be separate, as the ideal head (blade) shape for each task is notably different.
If you'd like to learn more about genuine swords/spears/axes/etc. and how to actually use them, as well as analyses of their use in pop culture (including LotR), I'd highly recommend checking out Scholagladiatoria on TH-cam.
As a general rule the drop point on a bearded axe is so that you can choke up to the blade for finer control, with the blade then providing some measure of protection for you hand
I am a huge LOTR fan. I enjoy your videos especially about Gimli. I named my golden doodle Gimli. He has red hair and is loyal, fierce, funny, and brave.
My friend adopted two bonded cats from a shelter, one white and gray, the other orange and striped. They named them Legolas and Gimli 😁 just thought you’d enjoy that
I have the battle-axe, myself. Though in the books, that's the one I imagined Gimli wielding, as he only had one axe, called a dwarf-axe, and I imagined the dwarves made some truly masterful weapons.

Although it is same kind of Battle Axe that Gimli picks up, it is not THE Battle Axe that Gimli picks up in the Chamber of Mazarbul.
When Movie Gimli runs into the room, there is a more complete shot of the room and multiple axes can be seen. In preparation of the fight, we see Gimli climbing on top of the tomb while duel wielding his Bearded and Walking Axe (which seems like a massive display of strength). He stays on top of the tomb slaying orcs until the cave troll runs towards him. He throws his Walking Axe towards the troll, but the cave troll strikes anyway. Gimli dodges the strike by rolling off the tomb to the left (or right if viewed from the door-perspective). During this tumble Gimli has no more axes in his possession. At the 'end of his roll' we seem him laying on the floor next to... a Battle Axe. In the next shot of Gimli, he is fighting orcs with the Battle Axe and when he gets down again, the troll pulls the axe from his torso (and throws it on the ground) and aims to smite Gimli but Legolas shoots a double arrow to save Gimli. When the fellowship goes berserk on the troll (because they think Frodo is dead), we see Gimli duel wielding his Battle Axe and Walking Axe (wauw.. 💪).
Ill be getting into a dwarven state of mind later this evening. Can't wait.

If you haven’t already, you should do an alternate history where Golem is killed by Bilbo when he had the opportunity. How would that have complicated the fellowships journey, or Sauron’s investigation to find the ring? It could be a fun one!

I cannot find (UC1415) Gimli's Walking Axe anywhere (except for ridiculously overpriced ones on ebay). That is probably the hardest one to get your hands on these days but I'll keep looking. I think if you're in the US or the UK it might be a little easier but I'm in Canada. I have his helmet and his two other ones, I'll eventually finish the set. I did get the chance to meet John Rhys-Davies for a PhotoOp and he wore my UC Gimli helmet replica for it. That was a lot of fun!

I actually never noticed that Gimli found his battleaxe next to Balin's tomb. This makes even kinda sence thinking of how great Balin was among the dwarves and how great Gimli became later as well... So the sub shows once again it's worth, I just cannot live without good lotr facts😉

I don't have the walking axe or bearded axe but I do own the battle axe and I was lucky enough to get John rhys-Davies to sign it.
I got myself the bearded axe earlier this year, and it was way heavier than I expected it to be. Lovely thing though.

I wonder if he picked it up because he broke his own axe at the council of Elrond on the ring. Unless that was his walking axe and Gloin let him take his along with his helm on the journey. Time for a rewatch to check!
I just recently got started on collecting replicas. And I desperately want Gimils double headed battle axe. Where did you find it? Id like to avoid a used one if possible, as always thanks and love your channel.
I would think the axes would be above the helmet, as if on the attack, the the helmet being topped at 5': for some perspective of how tall he gets in battle.
Do you know which axe he used to take a wack at the ring at the council in fellowship of the ring movie? I know he didn’t try to chop it in half in the books.
Wow, I'd give a finger or something weird to spend an hour in your collection. I love melee weaponry and design and my favorite movies has been the Lord of the Rings trilogy(and Star Wars ogs and Prequels to be fair and honest). My mom read the books like once every two or three years around winter time. Once I was old enough she started to tell me the stories ,and sometimes to read aloud. I then understood why she would be playwriting a strange hunched over character she'd do when being playful and chasing me around saying in a weird voice while searching" where are you precious?"lol ,my Mom was weird ,and sweet ,and playful. I grew up with our story here well before the movies were even the twinkle of an idea. Be well fellow Tolkien lover

@@jkre Well, Rivendell does have the best weapon repair shop in Middle-Earth, so maybe Gimli had it fixed before they left.

@@gregorybeattie I mean, it is somewhat hard to say. Elrond and his kids (as well as Galadriel, though she's not really that into the forge by the time of the ring war), are basically the last Noldor that haven't gone West, died, or ascended to the heavens in a magic flying ship (Elrond's own dad, with that one); and the Noldor are pretty much the best smiths in Arda. Only the dwarves can really compare, and Imladris is a bit of a ways from the Iron Hills or the Lonely Mountain. So Elrond's certainly got the best weapon repair shop for quite some distance.
In the books, as well as Ralph Bakshi's 1978 film, Gimli uses only one axe. In Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, however, Gimli wielded a handful of different axes.

Unfortunately, I don’t think the battle axe is currently in production. It was a hard one to find when I got mine. Hopefully they’ll do a re-release sometime!

The real question is if these are human-scale or dwarf-scale. I cosplay a hobbit from time to time, so try to find props that look oversized-like a “pint glass” that actually holds 32 oz! 😂

The walking axe Gimli used in Rivendell to try and destroy de one ring and ended up shattering one blade of the axe. Maybe that´s why he picks up another battleaxe in Moria.
They all look cool but I would rank them battle axe walking axe bearded axe. Since I think the look from a distance is cooler on the others and that is what you would see first.

first the double ax lies on a coffin! but then after the cave troll has broken Balin's sarcophagus, Gimli jumps down and lands next to it and then the ax lies next to the sarcophagus?
I don't remember exactly why but I thought the double bladed axe Gimli had was Durin's axe. I think it was that I played Lego Lord Of The Rings mobile and got the bigger axe in Moria and though that was Durin's axe I know that is not the case now but I thought that when I was younger this is my best guess but I don't know for certain.
