I monitor my dogs where they go to the bathroom because I know it will kill grass and plants! I have home owners all over who know I take pride in my home and landscaping so I do the same for them.
@@joepasci4970 They do, but this is local news too, and I'm glad they ran the story. It seems as though this guy did everything he could to solve the problem in a humane way, and they crucified him on social media anyway. This story might well stop further escalation.

PS this is just my opinion but I think people who let their dogs run around all willy-nilly in areas that aren't their properties or dog parks should be fined. I mean we have leash laws for a reason and some people tend to ignore that *looks at one of the neighbors whose dog nearly got ran over when he ran into the street as a result of having not leash trained him* 👀

I'm relieved to see the comments in the home owners favor. i have 2 dogs and I take very good care of my property and would be totally fine doing this in my yard. These people are really at a new level of entitlement

I don't. While he is within his rights to do what he did, that will most likely just further inflame the situation. IMO he should have put up a small fence like the interviewed dog owner suggested. The way it is now, dogs can still stand on the sidewalk and pee on his bushes which is what he said he was trying to prevent. Besides, the spike strips punish all animals, not just dogs.

Exactly. Same happened to me once when I had a corner lot. EVERYONE in the neighborhood that walked their dogs, let them "go" at may lot. I finally planted some thorny junipers that ended the problem.

If you live in a place with an HOA they can literally fine homeowners for dead and dying plants which would have entirely been the dog walkers' faults but the homeowner has to take the fine. It ain't right.
The man has every right to protect his property from other irresponsible people letting their pets pee in his plants. Or from anything else for that matter. The guy’s just trying to have a nice garden and other inconsiderate folks just have zero respect for someone else’s yard simply because it’s near the sidewalk, and they don’t care to control their pets. Too much inconvenience to take their dog elsewhere to pee.
I have a similar problem in my yard. Thanks for this tip, I was unaware of this product. It looks like a good solution.
I have a cat who liked to use a section of my bathroom tile rather than his litter box. I put some of these down and he only stepped on it once before he went back to using the litter box properly.
It's funny that as soon as they ask his neighbors if they would be OK with him setting up cameras they were more against it than the spikes.
Should have told them, "Shut up about the spikes or I'll install a cam too".
The people that are complaining are just upset because he’s taking responsibility for his property and not allowing others to use it as a compost ground, free of charge.

Honestly I don’t blame him. We are going through the same issue here at our apartment and we’ve installed cameras and confront people when they bring their dogs to pee in our bushes. It makes our porch smell like pee and I’m not living like that. People have finally stopped letting their dogs pee over here especially when they got lease violations. (Because our lease specifically says not to let dogs pee and poop anywhere but on the fence line.) so I support this dude trying to stop animals from peeing in his yard.
Lucky you that you have a lease agreement like that! It's a common sense rule, and not hard to follow. Without the threat of punishment, people will continue being rude and disrespectful.
People don't know but this is common in other parts of the world, in Japan this is on most yards to stop pets from doing the deed in others yards.

I have tons of pets, but I support this guy for doing it. If other pet owners can't keep their animals from destroying his property, then he gets to do this. I never let my dogs pee or poo on others property as I don't want others doing the same to my property. Those spikes are a rubber and the dog doesn't weigh enough to hurt themselves when they step on it, they simply move on from the area and go pee elsewhere. The people complaining are probably the same people who use shock collars on their dogs to train them.

They're definitely not dangerous! They'll hurt, but they won't puncture or wound an animal unless they're literally thrown onto it. Bought a roll of this stuff to keep my cats off the snake tank and it's very soft plastic that's more of a deterrent than a danger

I completely side with the homeowner on this one. I had to yell at a few people in my neighborhood for letting their dogs piss in my yard, which was leaving oily yellow spots in my lawn, which costs money and time to maintain. Control your damn pets.

He has every right to do this. Making it uncomfortable to stand on is the most humane way to accomplish the goal. Front yard fences are often prohibited especially at corners. One more reason I live out of town.

My sister has this problem in Massachusetts. She lives on a beautiful street so it’s popular for walking. What she hates worse is people who stop and pick a bouquet.

Yes it’s so disgusting! There is an elderly couple at the end of my Mom’s neighborhood who are now receiving full time care from a live in worker & since they have become sick some a-hole has been letting their dog crap ALL OVER their property (and this is no small dog- at least the size of a full grown golden retriever if the poo is any indication!!) This dog has literally set up a fence of 💩 around the perimeter of their house. It’s so disgusting and disrespectful. These people were always kind, quiet, & had a beautiful property. I told my Mom to point her Arlo cams at their lawn so we could find out who is doing it.

I'm a dog owner. The issue is dog owners not being respectful and responsible. A private yard is not a public space. Hence the word private. If people respected the homeowners property, this would not be an issue.

Good for him. I suffer from a similar situation with a horrible neighbor (4houses down)who would walk her dog to my yard and let her dog defecate without picking it up. Happened for months. We had cameras set up but never caught her in the act. I simply went to the nearest pet store & purchased a sign that says to pick up the dog poop & thankfully it’s stopped.

Update: The homeowner has installed a small fence to keep pets from accidentally stepping on the spikes.

Also worth considering: you can’t “pick up” a pee spot from your dog, and it is the pee that kills plants. No matter how good you are about picking up dog waste, the plants will still die.

This dude has my respect. He was trying to protect his property, and he chose pet-safe methods to try and stop the whiz attacks. The folks talking trash about him just show what kind of disrespectful people they are. If that was their garden getting ruined, they’d be having a hissy-fit over it.
I have the same issue and I don’t care. I was a total itch when it came to my yard and I will continue to be that way. The people in the neighborhood will completely ruin your yard cost you money and won’t pay a dime to fix it, but will cost all the damage. I’m with the homeowner.

I had the same thing happen to me. I ended up putting motion activated sprinklers when you crossed the property line. After a week of getting soaked (some people where more stupid than others and I guess was trying to prove a point and tried to uproot it and ended up hurting herself) they stopped walking their dogs on my lot. Just because I have a big yard on the corner, doesn’t mean it’s your dog’s private bathroom. The park is literally right behind my house across the street. Tell your mutt to go there.
This poor guy! I have 2 cats and one of them and litter box aversion, I myself was going to get some of these. These r actually recommended by vets for pets.

I stand with the homeowner!! There's some neighbors in my area who don't pick up after their dogs. I also put a sign up "no poop or pee" because I have children who play in our yard. Tell them to potty train their pets in a toilet if they're so concerned 😑.
As a fanatic dog walker, there is NOTHING worse than a dog owner who does NOT clean up after their dogs! Kudos to this gentleman!

Unless you're going into the yard and cleaning up the piss your dog has no business being in anyone's lawn!! It's illegal for you to be on someone else's property what makes you think you have the right to just let your dogs nonchalantly walk over to someone's bushes and take a piss!! Your dog shouldn't be going to the bathroom in anyone's front lawn for any reason!!

I would never let me dog pee on someone’s fence or like bush trim landscape 😂 (dunno what to call it) I usually go to the grass patch between the street and the sidewalk if there’s a small median. But I have a small female service dog 😂❤ 🤷♀️ and we just go to the dog park LOL
I've known homeowners in similar situations to put out "antifreeze sandwiches" for dogs that cross on to their property. The dog walkers should be grateful he isn't a cruel and spiteful human being and looks for every pet-safe method out there to protect his expensive landscaping. He should be praised, not condemned. Entitled karen dog owners are the worst people.
I support this owner and he should not feel the need to apologize in any way for this. I live in a neighborhood that has a 1 mile circuit for everyone to walk. My house happens to be halfway around the circuit and is a popular "meetup" spot for people wanting to walk with friends (often with pets). It is very basic common decency to respect another's property. As owners of 3 large dogs, my family and I make sure to respect the property (bushes and all) of others, and we expect them to do the same when in front of our house. We had to go out and talk to people that were ruining our yard, but we've also used these mats (even indoors with our own cat who kept jumping on counters and tables). These people's pets will be fine, the people themselves need to learn to "put some respeck on that" and be better neighbors.
Keep your pets off of property that isn't yours. Problem solved.

There's a lady in my neighborhood that refuses to clean up after her dog. She let him poop in our yard, so my dad confronted her. She told him to f**k off. So the next time it happened, he shoveled up the poop and dumped it in her yard. He does that every time now, and she had the nerve to bi*ch at him for it. He just said "clean up after your dog and I'll stop." She walks the dog on the other side of the street now.
Owwww, so other people get the poop on their lawn and the dog pisses on their car tire like they do sometimes.

When I was a kid, my dad went one step further. After asking numerous times, he shoveled up the poop and dropped it on their doorstep and rang the bell and said he would be doing this from now on.Miraculously, that was the last time they walked their dog by our house.

CHRIS STOCK: You are a responsible and respectful dog owner! A neighbor used to let her big golden retriever run loose and it inevitably would poop in my front yard. She'd even stand on her porch or look out her window, watching her dog and never walk over to clean it up. After cleaning up her dog's poop for months, and making subtle and polite hints when I'd see her outside, I waited until it was late at night, picked up her dog's big pile of poop with my shovel, walked up and deposited it on her front porch, right in front of her door. Needless to say, she subsequently always cleaned up after her dog. This was years ago before there were security cameras. 😁
