That's just the way the world is going to go as more and more people populate the planet. When you can't expand outward anymore, you have to expand upwards.
@@TruthFiction not at all but when Developers by pass local Government and line the pockets in the State Capitol to force a Zoning Change because they've been denied over and over. It was finally stopped and quietly swept under the rug when they F'd Around & Found Out by going after someone's unused Farm land. They thought he was just another out of work farmer when the reality was, he had more money than they did. He just didn't want to sell his family land that went back 7 generations.
@@TruthFiction "Eventually all residential zones will become multi-family high density instead of single family dwellings." this is insane and these population explosions are not sustainable.
WRONG!!!! This man and his family need an attorney. Sounds like he was there BEFORE the towering buildings were erected.
Yep, all because he refused to accept the payments that ever other holdout accepted. Instead of thinking with his head, he thought with his greed and wanted more than the developer was willing to pay for one plot, so they simply built around him and now he's finding out that trying for a greater payout and failing has consequences. At this point, his property is practically valueless since nobody would buy it except the developer and at this point, they have nothing to gain by doing so.
@@TruthFictionTHIS! THANK YOU! Bunch of whining losers. You always rationally act in your own best interests
@@TruthFictiongreed? He said him and his wife saved for years for that home. Maybe he enjoys that location, maybe he has great memories in the home, either way he doesn’t need to explain his reasons! Duh!
@@TruthFictiongreed would be taking the money and leaving. Honoring the memory of his hard work and family memories is what he is doing. We used to see being honorable and not being able to be bought or change your morals as a good thing.
@@tula1433Yeah, and now he still gets to enjoy his home. His neighbors get to enjoy the ones they bought in other neighborhoods even more. You think a development should stop because one guy refused to sell? If that was the case, this guy should have bought up the neighbors property to give himself the space he wanted. The developer simply worked around it and now he has regret added to the list of wonderful emotion he feels every time he opens his door.
How much money did each of the city officials get in bribes from the developers and in my opinion is that they got cash and maybe even gift's to keep it off the books and away from the IRS investigator and this is a perfect example of eminent domain style bribe
I feel like eminent domain is always “style bribe” lol officials always get paid.
City and government are so crooked, if Trump does not win, it’s gonna get even worse
Is it really so hard to understand that city officials would approve a massive development which would generate exponentially more tax revenue than a couple dozen single occupancy homes? You have to insist that they took illegal funds instead of thinking "well, this would benefit the entire community, except this one guy who refused to sell his house. Oh well, the good of the many outweigh the greed of the one." He specifically pointed out in interviews that they did not offer him "enough" money, but clearly every other holdout disagreed and took the final offer.
And you know what buddy he has a right to want a million dollars more than you think it's worth it's his house not yours not the city to say we want to build some condos here so we can get more money and kick you to the curb cuz we want people to make money no way buddy screw you
List the names and numbers of the officials that voted for this project as well sign off on the fines.
This infuriated me more than it should have. Those developers need to be expelled from this country.
Some lawyer needs to step up and protect this man and help him fight and then sue !!!!
As a contractor who has had to deal with Coral Gables building department, I can vouch they are a bunch of crooks
Everyone in Miami is, it's a tough city to live in you have to be strong minded
I respect this man for standing his ground. These rich jerks, and the city, have no respect for him.😢
Are these codes enforced the same throughout the city? How many liens are there on other houses with the same violations?
Agree 100%. If the City is going after everyone with code violations like Capote, then OK. But if it is selective, then it's a problem.
Poor old man leave him alone 🙏✝️
They want him gone. They are trying to force him out
There's a movie about this situation
This is been going on for years, with all the stress he is going to get sick, and they will eventually take over the property, I know it is hard to let go after years but at this point they may take the home and action it and he will be left with no property… I know years ago they offered him money but he refused… just sad
Deepest condolences
I remember something like this happened in my town where they were going to build a new grocery store. One elderly man in a home he'd built himself refused to sell. The city made a deal with him and arranged to have the house moved to a different property, which they did. He ended up in a quieter part of the neighborhood and last I heard he was very happy he got to keep his house.
Exactly, the city should have worked with this guy when these monstrosities were being built and seen how they could have made it work for everyone. They are just bullying him out......
"Free country for me, not for thee". And the other side of the coin reads "laws for thee, not for me."
You built around his home and now they are putting code enforcement violations on him.
THIS is the perfect GoFundMe project. I hope he can keep his home. 🤔
You assume "home". But no video from the front door. I'm guessing rental. Might even be vacant, due to the construction disruption.
@@julesjames593 Of course he owns because news is not investing in a renter & stated in the story buy out “his” property.
Corruption at the highest order
This is nothing but a bullying tactic to force him off his property
Since when do you need a permit for a canopy???!!? This is absurd...
Talk about code violations. How is it the city allpws those planter to be placed right on the public sidewalk in front of private property. How is those buildings were built so close to the property line to a residential property. The city Coral Gables Priates did absolutely nothing to protect this mans life safety or his private property and is now forcing him out of for some frivolous code violations so they can take the property away and sell it to the people who are giving them a KICKBACK.
Such an ugly building built by kick backs and greedy mongers taking away one his 14th amendment. That want a be so called managing director looks really shady.
Their trying to rob him from his home when he was there first. Many fines will still continue to happen even after he pays. This is just sad
city of coral gables is trying to intimidate and rob this person of his home.totally illegal he needs to sue and take it to the supreme court
If they offered him true value - he would be gone. They are absolutely harassing him. Government overreach at its worst!!!
Could you imagine living in that construction site for however many years it took them to build that thing??? Omg poor guy!
It is obvious that the City has been paid off by the developers
What a sad world we live in 😢Leave that old man alone😢
He needs to make a gofund me so people can help. This is so f**k!
I called him and left him a voice mail giving him this very idea about 10mins ago
Hopefully he hears it and hopefully channel 7, 10 and Telemundo get on it so everyone can start donating. 😊❤
I'll contribute
He is a millionaire go fund for what enough $$$
This is not acceptable. You do not have the right to take his property away. Pay him is asking price. If it’s that important to the greedy developer who probably paid the corrupt officials to harass him. This is why Americans are losing trust in local state and fed government.
Exactly! They should have paid him double what it was worth when they were first looking to build there.
This is pure corruption!
He's being railroaded by the city.
He should rent out his property to a toxic waste company!
If I won the lottery I would buy this man an army of lawyers.
How is this allowed the city allowed a hotel to be built up around him . He owned the land out right clearly this was a land grab that didn’t work
Call Pacific Legal Foundation or the Institute for Justice.
Oh yeah. Ever look at their win and loss columns?😂😂😂😂 You snowflakes think life's a movie.
He should set up a GoFundMe for donations to pay this off. However, they will keep giving him fines until he gives up sadly. They just need to leave him alone and let him live in peace. He's not bothering anyone.
The Developers that built around Mr. Capote’s house knew he was not willing to sell and they still went on with their project, building around him. So they concluded his home was/is now a part of that new building blueprint and cosmetic foundation. The developers have to accept that Mr. Capote was there before, during and after their project and it will so help him God remain that way! Let him live peacefully! They all need to ask themselves how would they feel if that was done to their elder father or even to them one day?! Sad enough that they took away the light and beauty of the home and from Mr. Capote! 😔
He should sue. So sad. He has a lovely home and we don't need more high rises in Coral Gables! SUE SUE SUE!!!!!! TAKE THIS TO THE SUPREME COURT. THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO FORCE HIM OUT AND HARASS HIM THIS WAY.
Hi there. The principles of eminent domain were sustained by SCOTUS about 185 years ago. Sorry you missed that. He should call jacoby and meyers though.
@@johnbellocchio66If they can ditch smart legislation like Roe v Wade…. they can also ditch fairly stupid legislation like eminent domain. But they won’t. Because most of the Supremes are also bought and paid for by evil.
Time to call The Institute for Justice, and they will help and for free.
This is so sad forcing him to move.
Hope this guy gets a great lawyer and a go fund me!
Can a lawyer volunteer to help this man?
What part of it being "his property" is confusing to these criminals.
Couldn't get him to sell. Now you are hitting him with fines. This is our government. This is how it treats its citizens. Rich paves the way. Our society is crumbling. So sorry Sir 😔
When gov blamed, it was remiss to note state and governor doing it... not federal.
@@sacrebleu1371 First of all I LOVE your name. Second you are correct and I am also. I never said it was Federal just said it was the government. It is at the state level but it's still the government. What they're doing to this Man is shameful and it should be illegal 😠🤬
Coral Gables is getting paid off to kick this poor guy out! Ask the Mayor to step in!
Those developers definitely have some amazing lobbyists. You know some politicians are getting fat pockets to get rid of this property.
Or, you know, the politicians are thinking the massive tax boost from the development would benefit the entire community, not the couple dozen single occupancy homeowners.
@@TruthFiction for most people the American dream is the security of owning your own home. Possibly something you can pass down. I don't think many people buy homes with the thought that one day they might be forced out by the government from it. I don't know enough about this deal though to know if that complex is paying more taxes that get spread into the community or getting tax cuts for the development. Also we could both be right at the same time, all depends on the people involved.
@@TruthFictionthe building is built already they gain NOTHING from this. They are simply bullies.
@@jaleeaj7819City is enforcing codes. It's a money maker for them. Developer isn't doing anything to this guy.
Everybody should get together and help this man fight and make an example of this. Otherwise, they'll statt doing this to other homes. Miami is going to end up like this if we don't fight it now. Ppl forced out of their homes, houses and neighborhoods torn down to build condos and apartment buildings land is forced to be taken from us so we can pay these absurd rent prices that will only sky rocket and monopolize the market
He has the right to not sell.
approval should never have happened. how can we help this man?
How do we help him come up with the money 🤔
Just imagine what he had to endure when those huge buildings were being built around him…
This is. Inhumane 😢
It shouldn't matter what zoning was done to the neighborhood and this is all just bullying to get him off the land. They should be forced to upkeep his property for all the harassment he's endured.
Big business loves big government.
I've been keeping up with this for some years now and it is amazing how hard they're trying to get this man out. If I was him I would not sell unless they offer me multiple millions of dollars but unfortunately he might expire before that happens.
А как они умудрились построить огромное здание с трёх сторон буквально в шести футах от домика - и жильцы терпели адский шум и грохот? И домик не треснул?
This sounds like that old story of the railroad baron Charles Crocker building a giant wall around the small property of the man who wouldn't sell to him
The problem is that the government should be scared of the people, not the people scared of the government. Theses public servants are off the rails. There’s much more going on here than the city of Coral Gables worries about grass..
WE THE PEOPLE
Does this guy have a go fund me. This is horrible!
Edith Macefield never gave up her house in Seattle either.
That is the difference between a Democratically controlled areas where peoples 'Rights' are inviolate and Republican controlled areas where the interest of 'big business' take priority over personal 'Rights'.
Is there a go fund me for him? I hope a lawyer takes his case and he sues the city. Heartless !
BULLIES! Leave him alone.
His only crime is to own a property
The definition of corruption. We have to help him.
this man represents the true american hero. he is actually standing up for democracy in the us and fighting corruption and government abuse of power. there is a long history of governments abusing private property owners, stealing their lands and homes or forcing them to leave or sell through the operations of eminent domain. usually the state and private corporations or companies get together and try to make things happen their way, violating the rights of private citizens and the dear Constitution, which text means nothing to them. the audacity of the developers in stating that he is in their way. God bless this man and his family.
No. He represents the American moron. There comes a tipping point in each negotiation. He missed it.
The exact same thing is happening in sweetwater. With FIU wanting to buy out all the properties along the Tamiami canal and create a huge downtown area. Traffic is already bad in this area and there’s like 7 high rise buildings up already. This development is part of the bridge that felt off 8th st
We need that, long as they buy them out, it’s fair. The university needs to grow
Every time I hear/read about this story, it gives me a distaste for Coral Gables even though I love Florida (not from there though.) City officials there need to do right by this man… We are all watching!
The politicians need to go to jail
Why does he need permission to put up a temporary 'car port' ???
👂 The developers are bullying the home owner ✅
This guy has to be a legend. Kudos to him. Real gangster. Say hello to my little friend (the house).
That man needs help and we should help him fight the city, this is messed up.
Omg it reminds me of the little old man's house on UP! Keep fighting!
Yes. I saw the house that UP was based on in Seattle. Next to a huge mall and movie theatre and highway. Owner long since deceased, family has the house but the city is leaving it alone.
My thought exactly.
This is nothing but corruption. This man had his home there before any development was started. It is disgusting how the city is allowing this to happen.
Pure corruption
No one should be forced to sell their home. Very wrong
They are going to take away his house over an umbrella?
No, they are going to take away his home because the development need that land and he didnt want to sell it to them so they are creating other ways to force him out
@@bjvu9460 The development is already built and looks very awkward. So is this retaliation for him not selling? Are they planning on taking his land and then redoing the development? I do know the mayor in Coral Gables is a real crook.
City needs to be sued, the lobbyist are too powerful...
Get married, they said. Buy a house, why don't you, they asked.
This is why!
You think you own "your" house?
Think again!
Coral Gables - a city of bullies. I'm never going there!
This is why It's not worth buying in the United States, it's really never yours.
A majority is one man with courage.
Is there a GoFundMe set up for him? I'd give for sure. Anything to shut down those greedy developers and city planners.
Those bastards! You should ask to see the manager of Florida too!😂😂😂😂
The fines are for his makeshift carport that he refuses to take down. If I had something like that where I live I’d get fined too. Most decent areas will fine you for much less than that. Just takedown the tarp bro. Not that serious.
