    I am 2 years and 2 months into PPPD which started after BPPV. I spent pretty much all of this time homebound and depressed. This January I had enough. I stopped smoking, changed my diet and started walking to the end of my road. I can now walk 5 miles a day and do Zumba workouts daily! I’m happier than I have been in these 2 years and am doing more. I drive without symptoms now, I cook, shower and do basic things with almost no symptoms. This time last year was so different so I’m very grateful. I feel that it was exercise that has absolutely saved me. I never miss a day. My next goal is to start the gym but I’m still a little nervous about it. I just pray that another BPPV attack (which is due around now) doesn’t take me backwards. It’s my biggest fear

      That's awesome and so encouraging!! When you first started walking were you pretty symptomatic? How did you increase to 5 miles? Sometimes I feel great on my walks and other days not so great (I've only been going about 1 to 1.5 miles currently) . I have constant rocking/swaying. Recently diagnosed with pppd but dealing with this for 9 months.

      @@amandar614 Yes, my symptoms were a lot more intense when I started and I was scared that I’d be away from home and feel really bad, so I was just walking around my road. I gradually started going further. I gained more confidence in myself each time I wanted to turn around and go home and didn’t! I think learning to trust in yourself that you can handle symptoms is half the battle. Some days my walks are 99% symptom free. The bad days aren’t half as bad as before. I used to sit down after my walks and feel those movement feelings but that’s no longer there at all. Sorry this is a long reply. I have tried to keep it short lol. It’s a long journey but you can gradually build up and lessen your symptoms. This time last year I could just about handle standing in the shower

And did you have the swaying/rocking sensations all the time before? Your so right about the fear being a big part of the battle. I'm scared I'll get to far away from my house and wont be able to get back.

    Wow!!! You are Gold!! I have been battling high blood pressure/chronic dizziness for the past three months, where it seems I am resistant to medication, and all the doctor does is to add more meds. They had no clue about advice on exercise, etc. I mentioned a possibility of anxiety and stress, but I was told to keep taking the prescribed medication. I woke up yesterday after attending my med review with no resolve and decided I was just going to have to let the emergency services find me cause I am going to go on a power walk despite my BP was 183/100 and feeling dizzy. To my amazement, my anxiety and stress levels dissipated. I then did a search on TH-cam whether there was a correlation between anxiety, stress and dizziness, and BOOM !! You came through to Seal the Deal!!!. THANK YOU!! Now I got my LIFE BACK!!.

    Coming from high intensity cardiovascular exercise (especially sprint running) & now full shift to strength training (with dumbbell as a start) & start seeing progress, this video, again, further testify for me the effectiveness of strength training vs HIT for people like us.
    & thanks to Dr Yonit & this channel, at 1st i was scared, really scared i actually could not 'feel' my feeling 😨 i realised that i have been resisting/avoiding my feeling due to childhood adversity. But now i dedicated my time to deal with my feeling from the past & express it how ever i feel necessary, i feel much better, much better now. ❤

    Fannnnnntastic information. I’m 76 and have been exercising reg for 50 years. This explanation goes deeper to describe how we with dizziness can specifically use exercise to help us recover. The part of moving from sympathetic to parasympathetic and back again is priceless. What I’d like more info on is what would be rotational exercise. I can see how important that is.

    I’m diagnosed as Vestibular Migraines since April this year. I have since been doing exercise regularly and push up my routine over time. I thought running over a distance helps a lot with my symptoms. I started to run over 2km then 3km and i have been running over 5km every alternate day, continue with slower elliptical exercise for 30mins in between the running schedule. My question is although i felt that my condition gets better (i can survive the full day of work), i still find that in between, i felt my brain eagerness to movement whenever I’m still like sitting or standing. Appreciate your advice if I’m doing it correctly. So far, i’m in your course and it’s been a great help and education. I really appreciate your Nobel effort in doing this for people like us ❤

    THIS IS BRILLIANT!!
    I do all my strength moves slow and deliberate. I do NOT do cardio. I can get bursts of that when I bring up my groceries upstairs. 😊
    I do sink squats ( at the sink) yoga type stretching, and slow dance moves that involve the obliques and core….
    and I’m almost 70.
    I have this attitude always in my recovery ,
    Keep my body in good shape, because your mind, heart, and soul for complete wellness will be waiting 🙏for you.

    I’m glad you mentioned peloton bike and treadmill. I had read in another thread that people recovering from MDDS shouldn’t use stationary exercise systems. I’ll be on my peloton bike tonight! Thanks doc! You are a Godsend!!!!

    Thanks for outlining the way to exercise with dizziness and how to use it to improve.
    I have enjoyed swimming all my life and was very depressed that I can not do freestyle right now because it makes me dizzy.
    I am walking in the water a few times a week and am building up with the goal of swimming freestyle.
    Any suggestions around this would be appreciated, thank you!
    This all started with covid in April. It was associated with high bp but the bp is coming down but I still have the dizziness but less often.

    I´ve realized that doing my usual weight lifting exercises routine would make me feel more tired and anxious very easily, different to going out for long walks in the morning or in the evening.

    I used to be an athlete and was extremely strong and fit until I fell ill with functional neurological disorder (and associated chronic fatigue) after a viral infection. My PPPD seems to be part of the overall symptoms of FND and the chronic fatigue makes it very hard to do much exertion. The variability of the symptoms means that I tend to overdo exertion when feeling relatively well, trying to get as fit as possible, and then get hit with a 'bust' period once my body refuses to tolerate a level of exertion that was tolerated only a few days before. It's extremely frustrating.

    I became deconditioned after months of barely getting out of bed at all because of how bad my symptoms were that I’m also dealing with reconditioning and pppd symptoms lots of pain in my legs and feet from not being used much until recently it’s been really hard mentally and physically but you give me the inspiration to keep going ! Thank you

    This is exactly what I need to hear.
    I know my symptoms are a reaction to moving around after sitting too long and my muscles are getting weaker. I have IBS pain and spinal problems which exacerbate the strange sensations and dizziness.
    However, I know when I have to do things with my family I push myself but feel better afterwards..except when I have stomach pain. That's when I hyperventilate!

    Another banger dr. Yo ! This is an important one. I am starting to reintegrate mountain biking rides in my weeks (once or twice). Keeping between 4 to 8km (what's that in miles 🤔 divide by 1.6 😂). Its taxing as my fitness is deep in the gutter but i feel that sway between heart pounding and leveling back down after slowing the pace. Still eveluating if i can handle the additional stress it brings on to the daily grind of work and life, but i hope i can keep it up, as it makes me happy to get out and play ! ✌️

      When I feel the swaying after running, I do somatic tracking and put a heavy bag of rice on my legs. My physio told me that this sends to my brain a message of stability. I use the bag of rice at other times even when the swaying feeling isn’t present (when sitting/standing in front of my computer) to continue sending the message. Give it a try and let me know if that works for you.

    Hey yonit, is it normal that my symptoms get worse after doing the workout? Drives me nuts at some point which made me stop doing it… will it get better over time due to the fact, that my nervous system will get used to it further and further more?

    I started exercising early on when I got dizzy and I think that played a large role in why I never fell into the severe category with my symptoms. In fact, I always felt better right after exercising! My dizziness is now about 90% gone (thank God) but I’m stuck with really stubborn pain symptoms. Can the advice in this video apply to pain as well?

    Would you ever consider putting out a beginners exercise video for dizzy patients?!!! Like a 5-10 min routine that you can begin with and then build up to more? I know you’re like the busiest person on the planet and I’m asking a lot lol

      ​​@@TheSteadyCoachI attended your live Q&A at 20k. I have been following your channel and have been a big fan of your content.
      It's been March 2023 my physician diagnosed me with pppd. I have more of the balancing 24/7 issue than dizziness.
      I met with a neurologist in October 2023. He sent me for an MRI for the brain. He doesn't seem to find it concerning. My family physician referred me to an audiologist. The hearing test came up normal when I saw her in January 2024. She was not much of help finding a relevant cause. My dr. sent me physiotherapy referral which didn't help much either. I saw my regular physio who I am going for past few years. He made me walk on a treadmill with speed 1 for about 10 minutes without holding the bar which I managed somehow at that time. After a couple of appointments he said that he doesn't treat the condition and suggested a few stretches and recommended trade mill and said come see me once you are able to walk without holding the bar on the minimum speed for 10 minutes (I have been walking on a treadmill at the speed of 2.3 and 5.5 elevation of course with holding the bar, it's been about 3 months now).
      My neurologist prescribed me the B12 injections for a little over six months which is ending next month. He also said that it takes 6-12 months to kick in. He has also made a request for an MRI for the neck and I am still waiting for that. My dr. has made another referral to a different neurologist for second opinion.
      My direct supervisor at work has been extraordinarily supportive but now he feels enough of making accommodation for me.
      Meanwhile, I have started with the Homeopathic medicine with my former practitioner back home who successfully treated my chronic condition years ago. He also does emotional assessments regularly.
      I am doing yoga for an hour daily and treadmill as I mentioned earlier in this comment.
      Everything I have done so far has been extremely sluggish in terms of moving forward.
      Do you make any recommendations for the resources on the topic you have mentioned here? I would highly appreciate it if you share some links to relevant content you have mentioned.

    Thank you so much. I just did my first workout in years. Post workout my tinnitus is louder. When I move my eyes or turn my head, my tinnitus is goes fuzzy and gets even louder. I feel a bit jittery and shaky. Back of my neck aches. I’m scared I’m going to have a dizzy spell. Will these things continue to happen? Will they lessen? Did they happen before the illness and I’m hyper focused on them? Will this all get easier? Thanks again you are a godsend!

    Try this symptom:
    Eye - Occipital Capitis (maybe RCPMajor and/or minor)
    Feels like seizure waiting to explode. Vinegar like Tingle. Severe at times it’s scary.
    Seemed to start Maybe when doing functional neurology, or something else.
    Very scary

    One question please .. I been suffering with chronic dizziness symptoms for about a year now .. that came with excess of stress during my pregnancy and post partum ..
    I recently started exercising(Pilates) but I feel that afterwards I am even more swaying,even more dizzy .. can’t explain .. what does it mean ? would mean so much to me if you could reply .. thank you !🙏🏻

    Dear Dr Yonit, i started doing pilates 2x a week. I have mainly a lot of trouble with delayed processing issues in my brain and therefore i feel off all day. But also i feel off balance when bending over or looking up (started all with bppv 3years ago). So, i did not move a lot for the last 3 years, i do almost all normal things again, but still afraid to really move my head. So...started pilates. However, since i started, (3 times i did it) i feel so much offbalance all day😢now i am a bit afraid...is that normal? I feel so much more symptoms lately...am i crazy to proceed with these kind off movement?.

    This is great Dr. Yo. Makes a great case for strength training and helps with my personal understanding of why. I have begun this process through physical therapy which was needed for other reasons. I would like to continue but have tried looking for an ap and found it geared to a much more fit individual than I am. I would love a video from you with specifics of how to exercise for someone who has had chronic dizziness for a LONG time and needs some very basic beginnings. Ideally it would utilize simple equipment like resistance straps and light weights. Gym trainers seem to expect much higher beginning fitness levels than apply in my case. How to start?

      Fortunately, Lynn, the basics/foundations of strength training are truly the same regardless of dizziness. I don't think that gym trainers who are good at what they do expect anything more than where you are right now. If at all feasible, I'd love for you to hire an in-person or even online trainer who can assess where you're at and help you find ways to do this that fit you personally.     My symptom showed up after a workout about a week post covid. The symptom can be described as a heavy head aggravated by too much motion, which then makes me feel lightheaded/heavy-headed almost like I have a hangover and on the verge of a headache. I exercised somewhat hard 13 days after my first symptom as I was feeling fine, but woke up with vertigo the next morning. No more episodes of that, but this head symptom fluctuates quite a bit during the day. I don't have a solid diagnosis yet, but I'm pretty sure it stemmed from having Covid. I've watched several of your videos - not even sure if I should call my symptom dizziness (my sense of balance isn't effected). Every time I attempt to do a bit of exercise the pressure in my head increases and I have to stop. I'm also a personal trainer so it's been quite frustrating. In addition, I'm 73 years old and wondering if I have time to recover without all the other systems in my body not getting the benefit of exercise. Anyway, I guess my question to you is are you familiar with this symptom and if this head pressure fits into the category of neural circuit dizziness/pppd. (I know it's not bppv). Thanks very much.

    I used to run/jog outside 2 to 4 miles about 3 to 4 times per week before my chronic dizziness started. It was a stress reliever for me and I miss it so much. I've been walking about 1 mile to 1.5 miles almost every day now and trying to throw in a few minutes of jogging during the walk. Sometimes I feel fine and other times it makes me feel worse. Is running too much while your still recovering? Should I work on walking for longer periods/distance without feeling too symptomatic before adding in running?

      Do what you love and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!! It is perfectly fine to notice symptoms afterward. Your body is perfectly capable of handling this!

    I have Parkinson’s & the #1 treatment to halt its progression is fairly rigorous exercise. I’ve had PPPD for ~3 years with little treatment success. How can I develop an ex program that doesn’t perturb my PPPD while making it demanding enough to keep Park down?

    My dizziness gets worse when I drive. I can see the fear/response cycle which ultimate is rooted in fear of a car accident (again) but it's hard to not feel fear when you feel abnormal sensations/dizziness driving.

    Hi Doctor! I was diagnosed with Vestibular Migraine. However, I found your channel giving me hope where I was not. I have a question not even my ENT can answer. I have severe motion sickness. Do I keep moving bc that’s what I am doing despite vomiting. How often do I move?
    Also do you know if Ozone IV therapy also help heal?

      Research indicates the motion sensitivity is neuroplastic- so the solution is to push to the threshold of discomfort but then backing off. Over time, your nervous system will learn to tolerate more. I can't speak to Ozone IV unfortunately.

I did get my results from the Ear institute after watching yet another interview you did with the doctor. All within normal limits. Mri. Ct scans. I wanted confirmation 100 percent from those test so I can grasp the neuro circuit and I’m planning to start treatment asap. Thank you Dr. Yo for all you do on TH-cam.     lately I've been trying to build up some sports, both fitness and strength training. I find that the more I do and the further I build up, the more I get overtired in the rest of the day. even to the point that the basic things of that day are no longer possible, such as making an easy meal or doing the dishes. eventually I get to a point where I am almost bedridden for over a week to start again at 0. what can i change to make it work?

      I’m sorry Jacolien!! That really stinks. It is ok to pace yourself at first. It’s not avoiding, it’s just giving your brain and body time to catch up. Structured strength training at a lower intensity level might be easier for your brain to adapt to.

    I love strength training, however I typically feel like my dizziness symptoms worsen a little the next day since diagnosed with VM 5 months ago (especially when I’m sore). Is this normal or should I focus more on walking instead?

      It's normal and doesn't mean you should stop. Brain can associate exercise with danger, and exposure can help. It's also an opportunity to look at your 'stress bucket' and ask if you're recovering adequately, and if there are other sneaky stressors affecting you.

    Curious to know if there is a relationship between Dysautonomia and PPPD? They seem to have pretty similar symptoms. Had a tilt table test done that was negative, and had 2 neurologist suggest I had vestibular dysfunction/PPPD. When symptoms first started, the gym was a place I could go to where I was never symptomatic. But now it has flipped and exercise seems to always set off my my chronic lightheadedness.     Hi! The dizziness has significantly improved thanks to my exercising !!! but recently I have been experiencing a lot of bladder pressure. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Could it also be connected to my body being in hyper alert.

      Anything that requires more than about 30 repetitions for the desired effect is probably not going to produce the kinds of adaptations that strength training would. However, most important is to do what you enjoy first, and as you feel better, you can add other things in.

    You have been stressing on strength building. Should I look into it?

      Do what you love and feels good. Strength training is really good in general for health, but if yoga feels good right now and your body is happy, stay with it!

    for the past 3 years I have been suffering from tension headaches, stiff and painful neck, and loss of balance in various positions, whether sitting, standing or lying down. Over the past 3 years I have visited various neurologists, ENT and internal medicine doctors. I also routinely do physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and also strengthen my neck muscles but there are no good results. based on the MRI results, cervical spondylosis dan lumbal HNP were found. is that the main cause of the dizziness and loss of balance that i experiences??

    Thank you so much for your videos, they’ve been really helpful and giving me a lot of hope. I’ve been dealing with cervicogenic dizziness and the Osteo who I’m seeing also mention that is important to keep the body moving. My question is, do you have any recommendations as to avoid some exercises for cervicogenic dizziness? As to things that overstimulate the neck? I’m doing very light weight workouts and walking in the pool, but sometimes even just to walk to the gym is a struggle. Thank you for all your videos 🙏🏽

      Hi there! I actually think you want to NOT avoid doing exercises for your neck. If you have cervicogenic dizziness, that means that no clear structural abnormalities explain your symptoms. If that's the case, the more active you can be the better. It's ok to start slowly, though. In summary: if there are no structural issues, green light on exercise with no specific ones to avoid.

However I still feel, what you mentioned on your other video, disassociated, pretty much 24/7. (Actually I cried when I watch that video, cause it explain my exact feeling). Is that part of the process? I started with meditation, hopefully it’ll help. Oh and I started your dizziness course as well. Thank you again.

    I started going back to the gym at 6 weeks from my labyrinthitis onset. I was an avid weigh lifter and actually lost 20lbs of muscle after my sickness started. I've been going 4-5 times a week now lifting weights and also doing some rowing and stair master. It's definitely helped me with stress and minimize symptoms. What are your thoughts on using a sauna for recovery?

    I would als0 lile to add...when doing any exercises that cause a tremor such as holding a certain yoga pose or bench press...let the tremble go on!
    Not only does exercising and stretching release trapped tension and trauma f4om the body...so does this trembling !
    After a traumatic experience we usually tremble or shake. This is trauma leaving the body. Not every bas gotten theor "shaking out ".
    U can even shake your body to accomplish this as well.

    If I suffer from tension headaches with my chronic dizziness wont strength training be counterproductive? (getting more tense) Isn’t stretching/yoga/tai chi or cardiovascular activities more suited?

      That’s a great question. The pattern of tension and recovery in strength training (as described here- with full recovery) is actually very helpful for neural circuit dizziness even when pain is involved. Prolonged cardiovascular exercise (especially when it is intense) can be a lot harder on the nervous system because you are tense the entire time. Yoga and tai chi are wonderful but they do not produce the same adaptations. Most importantly, do what you enjoy.

    Hi Dr Yo, I use the stairmaster as it’s one of the weird things my body lets me do while suffering with PPPD.. it is high intensity. Even though I am comfortable doing it would you suggest it might be hurting my recovery due to the intensity? I have also been doing two resistance sessions a week, but wondering if I need to stop the prolonged high intensity exercise? Thank you for all your help and guidance.

    Hi Dr Yo. Again another amazing video! I have a question about the dizziness that I havn’t seen answered anywhere. I have noticed that my memory is now terrible. Short term memory, cant remember words, forget things the next day, cant remember if something happened or im imagining it, feels like the day goes so quickly as my memory, almost like i teleport and forgot what just happened and catch myself in the moment. I was wondering could this be something that causes permanent damage to cognitive ability? Will it fully return once out of danger mode? I have noticed it’s definitely got better since the start and iv cleared some of the brain fog but just worry it could leave permanent damage. Thank you !

      Oh wow, you’re so right, I haven’t addressed this! Assuming medical issues have been ruled out, TOTALLY part of neural circuit dizziness- similar story to fatigue, your brain is very busy trying to manage all the dizziness stuff and that makes t very hard to process other things. Additionally- fight/flight/anxiety greatly dampen the thinking centers in the brain. No, it’s not permanent! The fog lifts as people recover.

      Hi Taylor, the more symptoms and diagnoses someone has, the more likely it is that this person simply has mindbody syndrome (neural circuit dizziness) and that all the symptoms are part of the same issue. Once someone has medical issues ruled out, we handle those symptoms just like any other one. With POTS symptoms, like with other dizziness symptoms , the most important part is understanding that this is a malfunction in your body brought on by perceived danger, but that your body is healthy and wholes

    Dr Yonit I've been told by an Oral Surgeon that I have TMJ/ TMD due to missing molars on one side of my mouth. And what the Oral Surgeon tells me it is because that joint is so close to many nerves, ear etc. and that would bring on dizziness, headaches, etc.
    My question is: Is dizziness from TMD considered a neural circuit dizziness? I'm thinking it is not but a bit confused. But either way I would think exercise / walking would still benefit me.

      TMJD is almost always a mindbody issue- it was one of mine!! I think doctors like to attribute symptoms to physical causes when they can, but it's reaching (in my opinion) to say that someone's chronic dizziness symptoms are due to TMJD. They have a common cause- tension, stress. etc.

I have also been diagnosed with tmj (without any pain though) because of dizziness and imbalance issues by a dentist..but an ENT said it looks its an otolith dysfunction . Currently I'm wearing a mouthguard for tmj and taking some meds for otolith dysfunction . Yes I feel stressed and anxious when the imbalance gets worse . Any idea on how to go about it?

    Pour ma part impossible de me mettre au sport, meme avec de bon coach sportif. Le moindre effort augmente mes soucis et je dois rester au lit plusieurs jours avec des décontractant. J'ai pppd, dystonie, hypothyroïdie, apnée du sommeil.. épuisé...Je reste allité... Meme tenir assis sur une chaise est tres difficile.

      Hi there, I hear you and many people here on my channel start where you are. It would be helpful to start with very basic activities and walking. Exercise can come later. You can get there. I suggest starting with somatic tracking and somatic walking.

    I am 2 years nearly in dizziness, I must stop smoking, how was it when you stop smoking ? Wasn't it more stressful ? Did you stop at once ? What did you change in your diet ?
