    I watched a guy in the local bike shop remove my Marathon Plus tyre with his thumbs - I stood their open-mouthed!

    The use of the Tyre Glider made fitting Schwalbe Marathon Plus on a Triban RC120 an easy job .

    Thanks for doing a 'real world' demo with a range of tyres - makes understanding how the tool works much better!

    Thank you for showing a size comparison with regular tire lever. My immediate concern was fitting this in my small saddle bag. It doesn't appear that would be a problem now that I've seen size comparison.

    I've punctured 3 tubes when fitting on a beaded tyre. So be careful when fitting the last part. I still love it though.

    Tyre Monkey works just as good. Got some Cont GP5000’s and got blisters on both thumbs putting them on with regular tire wrenches. Took them off to try the Monkey and got them on in seconds.

    If you are at home, soapy water assists in both removal and installation no matter the tool. Fortunately I know what tubrless tires work with my rims without having to kill myself. Thanks for the video. You went well beyond the call of duty.

    Recently used to fit Challenge clincher tyres. These are known to be initially tight fits. It provides an extra pair of hands and pins the tyre opposite the valve. Talc and tpu tubes also help. The benefit is tyre that rides fast and smooth.

    Please do not set off on a trip without practising using the tyre glider on your personal combination of rim and tyre BEFORE you go. Wonderful gadget for many no doubt. On a cold wet night it failed me. Second time it was used, in ideal conditions, it snapped.

    Great review. Thanks! For the shop, you might consider using the Kool-Stop tire jack to install (not remove) tires such as the Schwalbe Marathon Plus. Works like a charm.

      marathon pluses are semi-easy on my mavic allroads as long as you have the bead in the well, I just tried putting tubeless almotions on and it was impossible, my hands hurt so much. I gave up and put the marathons back on

    Excellent video , 11;20 ,As on old school cyclist from the days of steel wheels etc , i have no trouble fitting a Schwalbe Marathon on by hand, its all in the Thumb and Hand rolling action.But i did enjoy your film.

  • @galenkehler

    The main drawback of this product seems to be that for a tight tire, it is more difficult to install without pressing the bottom of the wheel against the ground (where the sealant is)
    Try using the glider without using the ground as support.

    • @lipglop
      @lipglop 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't have to push the wheel against the floor to use it. I have removed/re seated schwalbe Pro 1 tubeless tyres onto ksyrium alloy rims in my hands. Sometimes as you are re seating a tyre the bead can chase so it' is coming off the rim further along as you are putting it on. Placing the wheel on the ground and either pressing down or by putting it between your feet and pushing them against the tyre from either side stops this happening.

      I use cable ties to keep the tire from slipping out of the rim.

    You forgot to say it costs £15. I've read on a forum 2 people have broken theirs and the bloke who sells them hasn't responded.I'm still using my yellow flat Michelin levers you used to get free with folding tyres back in the mid 80's, in 35yrs I've only ever had one snap. So I'll stick with those. If the price was £5 to £6 I'd try one. Good review though.

    Great review. I have a pair of Prime black edition carbon rims. The tyre glider website says safe on most rims. In your opinion is the glider ok for carbon rims with something like a conti 5000tl that can be a real pain?

    I have found on narrow rimmed road wheels i cant get the tool under the bead due to the width of the tool , there isnt enough width and give in the tyre even with lighter folding tyres to get it in so i had to resort to a narrower standard lever

      Yeah, that is the only issue I've found - I spent a few minutes yesterday trying to remember how to hook it onto the rim until I remembered to put it on the other side.
      Definitely a fan though - I've got 2 now and even combinations that were impossible before go on with barely any effort.

    So, it's a tyre lever that doesn't look like a tyre lever.
    Need to have a strong thumb though...

    • @huwbaker8088
      @huwbaker8088 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use the fleshy part at the bottom of your thumb and put put weight on the tool as you push forward using a straight arm. Quite good from an ergonomic point of view.
