How have you watched hockey for 40 years and are still an amateur? I’ve been watching for 8 and I know more about hockey and how it’s played than most hockey fans do on earth. When you say watching, do you mean just going to the bar and getting hammered with your friends when the game happens to be on?
@@watervillegangmemberso they started bad, made the coaching change, had a rough road trip in Tampa, Florida, and Carolina (as you can see it was 5-1 in that game) to drop their record to 5-12-1 (the second time they dropped to 7 games under 500), and multiple people used that as an indication that Edmonton was not coming out of the deep hole it was in. Following that game the Oilers won 24 out of their next 27 games and went 44-14-5 from that game to the end of the season (56-20-5 if you include the first 3 rounds in that)

As a Rangers fan, I really wish we could have found a way to keep Kris Knoblouch, but I'm glad he has moved on and found success so early as an NHL coach. I'll be cheering for the OIlers b/c of our ex-ahl Rangers coach, but I also just like the OIlers and how exciting their players are, I mean who doesn't like watching them? No hat for the Panthers, they are just an awesome team to watch too. Gonna be a great series. Good luck to both teams.
Mcdavid, Bouchard, and a lot of their players are developing. This team had something overlooked, all the pro panellists, of which 80% said Dallas would win, which is passion. When you have a city that makes their team the be all end all, I can get behind this result.
Totally agree with you. This final 4, probably all if them had really insanely high passion except maybe Rags. But EDM has passion PLUS insane expectations. From media, fans, but most importantly, themselves. Now in finals, it's even more crazy. Because just on the other side is another team with about the same level of passion and self expectation. You see how Tkachuk and barkov talk about how they felt after losing last year, etc. This is gonna be wild! But so, so we'll deserved either way it goes. IMO it's one of those years a lot of ppl would be happy if both teams could hypothetically win
I, too, was thinking/hoping Dallas would win but never thought it would be a lopsided series, far from it. Two non-play-related moments from the Oilers this year gave me inexplicable confidence in them: the Draisaitl-McDavid bench taps (7:55), and the heated exchange between Perry and Kane which was brushed off with the response, "brothers fight." This team is tight, and it shows.

Yep, still remember the controversial disallowed Gelinas goal in Game 6 of OT that would’ve won the cup. One of the many reasons people believe Bettman hates Canada.
Great job explaining the gameplay. I’m a fairly new fan to hockey and the way you described the action made much more sense to me than most other sources.
I am so proud of my Edmonton Oilers for their eighth conference championship. Let's go Oilers! I am enjoying this cup run and hope it ends in our sixth Stanley Cup title! Should be a great final series this year
Why do sports fans say "our" and "my" team? I'm just curious as a bystander as you are merely watching the game, buying their merchandise, and essentially being their product. They literally don't know you exist.
Thank you for your content. I wish they could break down stuff like this during period breaks. You can tell the teams have their systems but its hard to exactly know what they are looking for, when its working and when its not and what went wrong, while you are trying to focus game in overall and not just tactical things
I still keep thinking to myself that if you would’ve told me 10 years ago that the oilers and the panthers would be facing each other in the Stanley cup final someday I would’ve laughed 🤣 you have to respect the amount of work these two teams have put in to their franchise over the last decade!
I'm a big Panthers fan and, yes, they do look like the favorite. But I am NOT writing off the Oilers, far from it. They have too many players that are really coming into their own. Their special teams were perfect in game 6 against Dallas. I don't think Skinner is going to falter. It's going to be an exciting, hard fought final series. I can't wait!!
McDavid's game is so reliant on his skating. I hope he can continue produce well into his 30s as his skating wanes. Would love to see someone break 2k points in a career.
My home team 🧡💙 We haven’t had a win since Gretzky. We are playing the best I’ve ever seen us play, our city is BUZZING. It’s amazing to behold, and I don’t even usually watch the games!
Don't forget that when the Oilers got spanked by the Hurricanes, the Hurricanes were also in the basement of NHL standings and had no consistent goal tending until after Christmas. So they went down to a Hurricanes team, that at the time, had no goal tending, bad defense, and a hard time scoring
Idk why my brain for the longest time kept thinking u were talking abt the 06 finals. And I was like hey, those Canes were good lol. Then I realized u meant from the vid and this year. It's prob cus I keep looking up past playoffs
Oilers were worse..and get your eyes checked if you think the oilers got spanked. The series went 7 games and Pisani was the best player for both teams
If you recall, the St Louis Blues were also in at the bottom of the rankings, the year they went to win their first Cup. Ever. 2018-2019 season, everyone figured the Blues were going to go the same that they'd always done. Jake Allen was as effective at stopping pucks as your average deli-sliced swiss cheese, and they were, at one point, the bottom of their division, and pretty close to the bottom of the entire league. And then they pulled out a win. Binnington, for all the shenanigans that he's had in recent years, was crucial to that win, bc of his ability to stop the pucks that Allen couldn't. (Yes, I'm fully aware that Binnington is a slur, these days, but give credit where credit is due; the kid helped the Blues win their first cup.) The Oilers didn't change a goalie, bc they knew that Skinner was the dude that could get it done. They changed coach, and it was the spark that was needed to shake things up, and give the Oilers back their belief in themselves. TLDR: Oilers are going to take the Cup in 5 games.
Mark Stuart is the PK coach, the Oilers might set another record for their PK being above 100% effective because of our short handed goals in a Stanley Cup Final series. If so, it'll be fun to see all future cup runs puzzled by that number.
This is pretty cool, I didn't even realize they started the season out like this. It was pretty cool watching an 8 seed kings team win the cup in 2012.
I rarely cared about hockey until the algorithm allowed you to show up… and pretty sure the first one was this exact one from earlier this season. Been subscribed since and started catching Dallas games.
Vancouver: comeback kings by making wild comebacks in the 3rd period Edmonton: comeback grandmasters by turning their season around and also Skinner, who looked terrible in the series against Vancouver, is now looking amazing. Probably something else too.
Skinner really only looked bad in the first half of the VAN series. Since coming back for 6 and 7 up until now, he's been lights out with sv& and more importantly GSAx
I (and I’m sure many others) haven’t felt this excited since 2006 💙🧡 most of us were too young to really enjoy it, so our time is now! Mcdavid and Drai deserve this so much.
As a born and raised oilers fan, who watched us get demolished for yrs then get connor and leon and still do alright im soo happy were finally in the finals for once
The fact that they were outshot 3 to 1 and still won the game says a lot about both the goaltending and the defense. I have seen Stanley Cups won before with teams using this strategy. It is usually hard to score goals in playoff games, so the strategy is not "who scores the most goals wins", but "who scores the least goals loses".
People saying oilers only won with 10 shots, they are going to get wrecked against Florida. Don’t forget that is one game, we had the most shots on goal for the entire season against any team.
Florida is a great playoff team. I hope Edmonton is ready for the physicality. And I also hope the league (refs) doesn't favor Florida and allow them to cheat like they did my team last year.
Who’s we? You play for the panthers? It didn’t say the oilers were going to win. It’s going to be a good series finale. Not a fan of either team but they are both good.
It’s time for people to admit that goaltending was never the issue with the Oilers. They they needed to learn defensive systems so they wouldn’t give up horrible high risk chances.
Awesome breakdown! It is actually embarassing that all those well paid pundits and 'analysts' on SN, TNT and the likes never have anything insightful to offer, other than the usual "It's all about attention to detail" or some other cliché. Instead channels like yours do the hard work and provide some actual analysis.
I'm 43. I grew up with Gretz, Mario Stevie Y, Coffey, Messier, and so on. McDavid is probably the best I've ever seen. I say this as a Wings fan. The dude is just electric and a class act. Looking forward to this final. I love 45 minutes from Sunrise, Fl. I've seen 50 + Panthers games against the Wings and Bruins (fiance is a huge Bruins fan). I kind of hate the Panthers ngl 😂 But man they are good. I feel like it will come down to the goalies. I think Edmonton has an advantage as Bob can be exploited. Trouble is getting the shots to actually get to the net. So we'll see.
Reminds me of the Penguins back in 2016, were down in the basement after the first half of the year. They went on to dominate the rest of the season and cruise through the playoffs.
McDavid shows a master class on leadership. Knoblauch the same. This team has every chance of winning it. I served ice cream to Gretzky in Montreal when he was just starting his career with the Oilers. Ever since I've been a a big fan. This team has had many many lows. Too many. I am hoping they'll bring the cup home finally.
I didnt realize it was the Cup Finals already, havent been following the Oil as much, too much going on kt life but i am glad to see theyre making another trip to the big one. 😎

Panthers won’t be denied this season. Your 6th Cup will have to wait.
@@X-7-JAMES We shall see
Fantastic video, amazing technical breakdowns!!!!!!!!!
These breakdowns are so on point, it gives the opponent an advantage; therefore, may the informed coaching staff's team win!
Thank you for your content. I wish they could break down stuff like this during period breaks. You can tell the teams have their systems but its hard to exactly know what they are looking for, when its working and when its not and what went wrong, while you are trying to focus game in overall and not just tactical things
Hey dude ...your breaking down of the various plays/setups and attacks is very revealing... thanx for your insights and efforts.
This is such brilliant analysis.
I still keep thinking to myself that if you would’ve told me 10 years ago that the oilers and the panthers would be facing each other in the Stanley cup final someday I would’ve laughed 🤣 you have to respect the amount of work these two teams have put in to their franchise over the last decade!
Absolutely fantastic video
Vancouver fan now cheering for Canada's Team! ❤❤❤
Panthers NOT LOOSER MCDAVID GOLDEN BOY
It's easy to write the Oilers off with how good Florida is but I think the Stanley Cup Final will be closer than a lot of people think it will be
I'm a big Panthers fan and, yes, they do look like the favorite. But I am NOT writing off the Oilers, far from it. They have too many players that are really coming into their own. Their special teams were perfect in game 6 against Dallas. I don't think Skinner is going to falter. It's going to be an exciting, hard fought final series. I can't wait!!
I wouldn't be surprised if it goes to 2OT in game 7.
This series is going to be wild. A chess match at 40 km/h.
McDavid's game is so reliant on his skating. I hope he can continue produce well into his 30s as his skating wanes. Would love to see someone break 2k points in a career.
Nice to get this win after all the pain of playing Dallas during the dead puck era lol
It will be so aad seeing Skinner crying as the Panthers hoist the cup. I hope his team doesn't put all the blame on him again.
Game 6 McDavid is the new standard for what we will see in the final
My home team 🧡💙 We haven’t had a win since Gretzky. We are playing the best I’ve ever seen us play, our city is BUZZING.
It’s amazing to behold, and I don’t even usually watch the games!
So happy to be an oilers fan over the years 4 wins away baby
Nice video as oilers fan I’m having flashbacks and feels like just yesterday lol LGO it has been a hell of wild ride
The actual low point was when they lost to the sharks
Idk why my brain for the longest time kept thinking u were talking abt the 06 finals.
And I was like hey, those Canes were good lol. Then I realized u meant from the vid and this year. It's prob cus I keep looking up past playoffs
Oilers were worse..and get your eyes checked if you think the oilers got spanked. The series went 7 games and Pisani was the best player for both teams
@@tomreed-oe7hi I think the guy was talking about losing to the hurricanes 5-1 this year not losing in 7 games with their backup goalie in 2006.
@@lup1up you weren’t the only one.
Watching your Vids here in Germany, cause we dont have such informativ hockey content here in the media. Its all about football...so thank you.
As much as I wished for this to be a repeat of 2006, with the hurricanes vs oilers, I’m still happy that the oilers made it and the rangers didn’t
(Yes, I'm fully aware that Binnington is a slur, these days, but give credit where credit is due; the kid helped the Blues win their first cup.)
The Oilers didn't change a goalie, bc they knew that Skinner was the dude that could get it done. They changed coach, and it was the spark that was needed to shake things up, and give the Oilers back their belief in themselves.
TLDR: Oilers are going to take the Cup in 5 games.
Excellent analysis.
Knob said he didn’t do anything with the pk he gave someone else that opportunity and it payed off hugely
Mark Stuart is the PK coach, the Oilers might set another record for their PK being above 100% effective because of our short handed goals in a Stanley Cup Final series. If so, it'll be fun to see all future cup runs puzzled by that number.
2024 Stanley Cup Champions, Edmonton Oilers
me when i lie
I'm so hyped for this years SCF series. I'd be happy to see either team win. Oilers vs Panthers is going to be fun to watch.
This is pretty cool, I didn't even realize they started the season out like this.
It was pretty cool watching an 8 seed kings team win the cup in 2012.
skinner really stood up for this game i mean like 30 shots to 10 is wild
And he will get score 3 goals on 5 shots the next game
@@coreysghostglowmask8650 yeah probably
I rarely cared about hockey until the algorithm allowed you to show up… and pretty sure the first one was this exact one from earlier this season. Been subscribed since and started catching Dallas games.
Vancouver: comeback kings by making wild comebacks in the 3rd period
Edmonton: comeback grandmasters by turning their season around and also Skinner, who looked terrible in the series against Vancouver, is now looking amazing. Probably something else too.
Skinner really only looked bad in the first half of the VAN series. Since coming back for 6 and 7 up until now, he's been lights out with sv& and more importantly GSAx
Awesome breakdown, just top notch. Go Oil!
Nicely done, go Oilers in the Finals
Dallas keeping their reputation by making mid, AHL goalies look elite. Skinner is about to get exposed by the Panthers. Can't wait to see it
Can't wait too see him lift the cup, you're so right.
@@JACKAL747 How's that looking?
As a fan. So proud of this group. Always believed in them. No doubt they can win a cup. 🧡💙
Watching McDavid is poetry in motion. I hope they'll win!
So true, f them haters
Florida is a great playoff team. I hope Edmonton is ready for the physicality. And I also hope the league (refs) doesn't favor Florida and allow them to cheat like they did my team last year.
Florida will take cup......Spoilers loose..
Agreed! Even during their abysmal start, they were still getting over 50 shots on goal in some games.
Who’s we? You play for the panthers? It didn’t say the oilers were going to win. It’s going to be a good series finale. Not a fan of either team but they are both good.
"Theyre fighting for a chance to raise the Stanley Cup"
Aaaaaand it's gone
No.
Habs fan in New Zealand but rooting for "Team Canada", the Oilers!
*Goooooo OILERS GOOOO!*
It’s time for people to admit that goaltending was never the issue with the Oilers. They they needed to learn defensive systems so they wouldn’t give up horrible high risk chances.
People find it easy to pick on goalies. Ridiculous.
💯
So many goalies get thrown under the bus because their defense lets them get peppered in the slot.
Life long Edmontonian here! Can’t wait for Oilers to bring home the cup
I really don't think that Edmonton gonna beat Florida, but then again i didnt think that they are going to eliminate Stars, so what i know
McDavid shows a master class on leadership. Knoblauch the same. This team has every chance of winning it. I served ice cream to Gretzky in Montreal when he was just starting his career with the Oilers. Ever since I've been a a big fan. This team has had many many lows. Too many. I am hoping they'll bring the cup home finally.
Greatest comeback since 2019
good breakdown, thanks for this!
Never clicked on a video so fast LFG!
Let's go Oilers!
My Second Stanley Cup finals in a row what a Dream come true my third in 3 years following Habs in 2022 and VGK last year
Mark Stuart is actually the genius behind the penalty kill.
I've been waiting all morning for this video. Oilers being the underdogs to the panthers just means they've got em right where they want em. LFGOIL
Oilers having their St.Louis circa 2019 run, hope they win it all
When the Oilers had that bad start, I have a convo with a friend and I told him that the Oilers will make the finals. Sounds crazy.
Awesome analysis.
I vote Edmonton's penalty kill unit for playoff MVP.
I didnt realize it was the Cup Finals already, havent been following the Oil as much, too much going on kt life but i am glad to see theyre making another trip to the big one. 😎
When you get to stanley cup finals after 18 years but then realize you have Correy Perry on the team.
I'm so excited to see how the Oilers handle the Panthers aggression. It's going to be a great series.
