Historically, the Canadiens are the best NHL team ever, and still regularly hand the Leafs’s ass to them. Also, they clearly have the coolest uniforms.
"Montreal won't be remembered for much for a long time..." I know of two unbreakable records that the Habs set in my lifetime. The first was in 1993 when they won TEN CONSECUTIVE playoff overtime games (they had 11 in total that year but lost the first to the Quebec Nordiques). The second was in 2021 when they became the only team in NHL history to win the conference championship trophy despite never having been in that conference. The Canadiens have always been an Eastern/Wales Conference team and they won the Campbell Bowl in 2021 while STILL being an Eastern Conference team. Neither of those records will ever be broken and I saw them both being set. I'm kinda lucky that way because there aren't many unbreakable records left.
Another record for the Habs: Fastest goal from the start of a playoff overtime period. 1986, look it up. Still, the most telling record: The most Stanley Cup wins, which they will undoubtedly add to before any other team comes close. Habs are on the rise!
