    I just got my 2022 SXT two days ago - and I love it. Pitch Black paint, tinted windows and all blacked out. I’m with you, man. I’m on the doorway to 50, always wanted a muscle car and never got it. Made sensible choices for early-career commutes and then SUVs for kid and friend transport. But this time it’s for ME, and I’m loving it!

      Way to go, brother!!👍💪. So glad to hear you’re loving it, too! Ooh, black with the tinted windows must look plain mean 😠👍…sweet! I truly love that SXT hood the most and it makes that car just standout! Enjoy your muscle car and thanks for stopping in to watch and sharing your car with us! 🙏

      I'm on the same page as you.
      Just turned 51, and I'm trying to make a decision between the 6cyl Challenger and the 6cyl Camaro.
      I'll be test-driving both of them, and then I'll have to make a decision.
      Whichever one I get, I'll be driving it for 20 years or longer...lol
      You just can't beat the simplicity and old school concept of both cars.
      I really can't wait to be sitting in one of my own.

      @@realityfitnessfyt4lyfe248I’m of course super biased now, but for me, it was never really a choice - Challenger all the way. A lifelong obsession since I was a teen and first watched Vanishing Point on VHS! Took me 35 years but I finally fulfilled that wish for a Challenger! The V6 angle doesn’t bother me at all - it’s plenty fast enough for my needs and can zip in and out of traffic like a champ. I ain’t gonna race anytime soon :)

    Great video! I’m a GT owner myself and people will tell you to upgrade to a v8. But if you’re a fan of muscle cars, just wanna cruise around with fuel efficiency and don’t care about high performance racing, and have more than enough power for daily driving, this is the perfect car.

      Congrats on owning your GT! 💪Honestly, I do think those V6's provide more than enough USABLE power for everyday driving enjoyment and certainly has more horsepower than the average runabouts surrounding you on any given day. Just can't beat that "throwback" timeless styling and like you say, you can enjoy it without that constant money-suck of the V8s. Thanks for watching and keep-on enjoying your sweet GT! 👍

    Love your reviews!! I also fell in love with this platfrom after renting a Charger GT with the V6 a few weeks ago. Most fun rental car I've rented in years. Love the look and color of your Challenger. Did you consider the Charger? I'm on the fence between the two. Also on the fence on the AWD but being from upstate NY snow country sounds like I may need it and your description of the system is very helpful. I'm concerned that the fuel economy would take a big hit due to extra weight. Have you noticed that? What type of MPG are you getting? Your spreadsheet is kick ass by the way! You must be an engineer, lol!

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vboccanf thanks for watching and your nice feedback! 🙏 I’m not an engineer and likely just a nerd 🤓🤣 This was a rental for me, too. The Charger certainly is more practical but I personally prefer the lines on the Challenger…so sweet and retro 😎. Also, I don’t know if the Charger has the same “cockpit” driving feel as the Challenger which is so right-on for me but clearly you liked the Charger which is all that matters. I was impressed with the V6 AWD mileage and it likely is less than RWD version but for cold slippery conditions I think the minor fuel economy trade-off is worth it. My financial situation forced my hand to hold off getting one but my head snaps toward any I pass going by opposite direction on highways or if I come upon one on roads. Mileage was like low 20s city and high 20s highway cruise-controlled according to real-time display. Overall was low to mid-20s. Keep us posted if you get a Charger or Challenger and thanks again for watching! 👍

    I had a Grand National in 1987 that had 240 hp and that thing moved and this has 300 hp and the GNX had 300 hp. I think people are just spoiled with the horsepowers that these manufacturers can make. Usable street horsepower of 300 hp is a good number. Nice review.👍

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You make a wonderful observation and conclusion of how high "the bar" has been set for horsepower given the explosion in factory model's so far beyond what used to be "powerful" decades ago 🤣. I really do think the V6 Challenger is more than enough for everyday driving knowing it's likely King of the Hill at any given time vs. the vehicles around it at any given time on the road. Not to mention it's not "out-of-control" type power but actual usable power as you point out. That's so cool you had one of the classic Buick's so many would love to have now! Funny how EV crossovers and peanuts will now blow the doors off even the biggest displacement ICE muscle cars without even trying but we still feel that excitement hearing an "engine" winding up with a throaty exhaust. I'm sort of glad we grew up at least having known and heard that as"the norm" for muscle. Thanks for watching and sharing your nice comment 👍

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! Though, seriously, I've seen videos of Hellcats here in the U.S. going nearly as high with dealerships gouging buyers with massive mark-ups. It's only a matter of time and gasoline prices WILL go back up and at least the V6 gets as good mileage as most vehicles around it on the road but the Challenger at least still has some classic styling and comfort other vehicles just don't have. • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Schmitt_YT sadly, until you turn 25, insurance on any “sports/muscle” car is going to be problematic. I also like the Camaros and their V6 models are still cranking out numbers that used to be generated by V8s years ago so again, no slouches in power in their own right. Again, your age will fight you and make you pay top dollar. You might consider something entirely different like Subaru Crosstrek model with the 2.5L 4-cylinder boxer engine. The 2.0L won’t win any drags nor even the 2.5L but I think they’re athletic looking, practical for youthful outdoor activities, get decent mileage, usually reasonably priced and can offer some fun DIY lifts and skid plate “rally car” type mods to soup it up a it. I hope you find something you like but remember cars aren’t worth over extending your finances to get as the “newness” and excitement often fades before the long, expensive monthly payments. Please keep us posted and good luck!

    Great comparison video. I have a 2019 AWD SXT with the plus package and some other package goodies so it's pretty well configured and only 1 of 2 made the way mine is.
    It's a great car but at times do get the itch for more hp but then I start thinking about insurance and gas prices as the Scat Pack and up would need premium fuel. So your comparison talked me off the ledge... for now, lol.

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Consider yourself very smart for getting yours before these prices increased! 👍💪😎. I fully understand that “V8 lure” but I even like the stance of your SXT better than the V8s. Slightly higher off the ground is so much better given our overall crummy roads and debris on them and having that AWD is invaluable! There’s a reason state troopers have that same Borg Warner drivetrain because they need to be able to swing wide down into highway ditches and medians to engage pursuits so you’re in good company with that beefier front end driveline. I look at the V8s but their added fuel, maintenance, shorter tank-driving-range, insurance and now scary stolen-potential not to mention inability to drive in much foul weather just makes your SXT the perfect Grand Touring Challenger! Again, smart decision on your part! 👍💪😎

    • @Tigerwolf291
      @Tigerwolf291 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WorksIRL Prices have gone crazy that's for sure. Similar car as mine, even with less options, is easily like 10k more than what I paid for mine just a few years ago. Plus I've put my own touches on it to make it even more unique so yes it is hard to part with it especially when it's the color I had to have (sublime green). But when I hear that V8 rumble it's tempting but all your points are valid and good to keep in mind.

    Excellent spreadsheet comparison! I'm in Michigan myself and going between the V6 AWD and GT. I have a PowerWagon for winter use, but the fuel economy is garbage. But I knew that. I doesnt get driven much. Always wanted one. My daily is a 21 Wrangler Willy's with the V6 e-torque and that thing hauls! I wish they would have put the E torque in the challenger as well. It gives it a little extra oomph off the line. Wrangler is not a good daily driver especially on windy days and the seat doesn't go back far enough. Looking at a challenger or charger for the daily. And take the PowerWagon on snowy days if I go with the GT.

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! Hello fellow Michigander ✋👈we know what that means, don't we😆. I like the position you're in...you've got awesome choices all around 💪I love me a Power Wagon but I'll bet the mileage is eye-watering when fuel prices spike up at the pump. At least you've got it for bad Winter days...one thought, if you don't need the hauling power/cargo bed of the Power Wagon, maybe keep the Wrangler as your bad Winter sled and the Challenger for other days? Glad to hear about the Wrangler e-torque as I don't know much about those. I had a 4-door JK Sahara for eight years and loved it, even on-highway but I fully get what you're saying about aerodynamic brick and the driver's seat position 👎I still have my "older" Wranglers (LJs) which are like driving Fred Flintstone's car 🤣in comparison to anything but I just can't bring myself to give them up as they just have that "old lump of iron and steel feel" you just don't have nowadays. I admit, I might consider a Challenger V8 5.7L since it still takes 87-octane, not the more expensive fuel needed by the Scatpacks. IF you could stay off the skinny pedal I've heard their mileage isn't much different than a Wrangler V6 3.6L...but, I know I'd likely always want to press that pedal down to hear that V8. I just felt at home in the V6 AWD Challenger as it really gives you that muscle car feel without any guilt daily driving it WITH the AWD. I think if I went GT I'd rather go to the V8 as GT has all those "racing apps" which I think would be more fun in the V8 whereas the SXT at least isn't pretending to be a dragster and still gives you the muscle car look/feel. I think I'm partial to the dual-hood scoops look on the SXT, too. I'll be really curious what you go with so I hope you'll stop back and let us know. Good luck and thanks for watching and your nice comment! Try to have fun with the decision as no matter what you decide, I suspect you can't go wrong! 💪

    Most people are buying the SXT v6 or R/T 5.7l v8 and here is the thing you need to account for I think in the spreadsheet.. With the 5.7l v8 you are constantly tempted to step on it or rev or something and that totally destroys your fuel economy (every red light where you are first in line becomes a joy instead of a burden, infact you slow down to get into that position rather than trying to make the light!) and with the sound of that stock exhaust with the v8 its so hard not to do that especially with it being warmer outside and the window rolled down. If you are worried about gas prices I wouldn't be looking at a Challenger to begin with to be totally honest... As someone who owns one, I would always recommend get the v8 or get a different car but I have no hatred towards the v6.

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good on you for owning one...good choice! 💪I 💯agree with you...having that power under the hood how can you not be using it whenever possible. The V8s look/sound like a blast but I really do like the V6 for daily usage. Plain old 87-octane fuel, nice long range from full tank and I think more than adequate power for what we’re legally able to do in everyday driving yet all that style and comfort! If you compare HP specifications the 2023 SXT V6 is rated 303 HP, which puts it in the vicinity of the '70 340 cid Challengers and Cudas, underrated for insurance purposes at 275HP. 383 was rated 335 HP
    I just rented one for a month, it's no slouch, stomp on the throttle, it drops a gear or two then gives you that old familiar I wanna go sideways musclecar twitch as it launches!
    FWIW it also handles like a CUDA not the longer wheelbase spin out and crash into fixed objects prone Challenger. Fair to say... SXT may as well be a modern AAR Cuda, just no Plymouth to build one.
    edit: battery in trunk and electric tire pump from the factory... rack and pinion up front, multi link in the rear, 4 wheel disc brakes... if you wanted that in the '70s you had to build it yourself.

    I have an '18 GT awd. Has more options than the SXT but still a better bang for the buck than the newer ones as far as a daily that can go through snow and save at the pump, insurance, payments, and taxes. I think Dodge screwed up when they mated the Hemi with the awd in the Charger and 300 but not the Challenger and all three cars have the same platform. And I hear you on the Pontiacs, I love my Grand Prix's.

I got into details of making/editing video and completely botched that...my apologies to you and the GT Crew since you have the hoods that look 100% identical to the R/Ts as well! 😬 I agree with you entirely that Dodge should have put the V8 in the AWD Challengers...I can only think maybe there's some slight mechanical challenge shoe-horning the BorgWarner 44-40 in with the V8 under the Challenger sub-frame...maybe? Thanks for watching and enjoy your GT AWD as I'm jealous of anyone owning these sweet cars...you folks were smart to get them when you did! 👍Hope you'll stick around by subscribing...can't promise I'll be buying one but I'm sure going to try to swing it if I can make it happen.

    The VVT feature it has, is a caution for me, as I've read a lot of problems come with them, but Maybe it is a problem only with people who do not change their oil regularly ! Or use the proper oil for the system ! ? Donno !

      I'm with you on the more complexity in anything mechanical, the more to go wrong or not work right over time. However, I do think as you state, using high-quality synthetic motor oil changed on-schedule and this 3.6L V6 is robust. If you get one, please come back and let us know!

      Hi, I'm at 198,000 km on my 2014 Ram with the same engine and tranny configuration. I opted for this combo due to reports of failures specifically in the cylinder deactivation features some of the V8's are cursed with to achieve reasonable mandated mileage numbers.
      That V8 powertrain's high failure rate and eye-watering diesel-like repair costs to overhead cams and valves made me choose the V6 in my truck After all, this engine is sold in such high numbers across the whole Stellantis line, parts prices will never reach unicorn status.
      For years now she hauls 5k lb loads with ease up hills at any speed as long as you let her work into her torque curve, which is at much higher revs than we see in V8's.
      The durability of this setup has me pondering the same V6/AWD combo in either the Charger or Challenger. As grassroot01 alluded, the issue causing VVT failure is people following factory oil change intervals. I changed mine first at 500 km to get the break-in crap out, and stuck to 3,000 mi/ ~5000 km oil changes due to short drives which I know don't cook off blow-by condensed product in the oil.
      Maintenance to date amounted to: air suspension, suspension joints, regular brake work, rear bearing with diff change. oil filler tube crack (expensive as intake comes off, fixed in updates since '14).
      These V6 blocks do 500k miles in work vehicles regularly with the same caveat: change oil. The only thing I'd add is to count on changing tranny fluid regularly, like the designers at ZF recommend (but not Stellantis!). Remember the factory doesn't care about your vehicle post warranty, so take care of things yourself in advance and make it last. You only get about 60% of the fluid per change so do a few. The new ZF trannies have drain plugs now. Enjoy the ride and enjoy knowing you bought something that just works and makes you smile.
      @WorksIRL: I appreciate the spreadsheet approach. I do the same thing when comparing options across brands and also like to take HP/lb into account as well as it gives me a measurable for seat-of-the pants acceleration feel, and to a certain extent accommodates for increased drivetrain and suspension upgrades often associated with more HP.
      One other note from users with high mileage Pentastars is that the engine tends to last longer running on mid-grade fuel, even though it's rated for 87 Octane. Perhaps working this into the long term ownership economics will give a more realistic cost picture. You can take mileage cost a significant step further by accommodating, or eliminating, ethanol blended fuels, which deliver high octane numbers but lower energy density. I'm finding greater range with mid and premium grades offset the increased cost somewhat.
      Something to note for V6 enthusiasts is that there is a $10k bolt-on centrifugal blower kit made by RIPP that puts out better mileage after a re-flash with big block numbers to boot. Dyno numbers are verified as seen in their vids. Amazing stuff and would make for a great sleeper.

      Man, thanks for all your detailed comments describing your amazing RAM V6 details, maintenance and opinions! 💪 I can fully appreciate the V8 lover’s enthusiasm but the balanced V6 longevity and daily-usable performance, lower purchase/maintenance costs still seems smart to me, too. One other supercharger option competing with RIPP is from ProCharger. It’s not been out very long but I like it’s fully bolt-on without any need to take to a shop after DIY install yielding additional 125hp which takes V6 to Scat Pack HP arena. Again, thank you for sharing all your insights and experiences, thanks for watching and I wish you many more powerful miles on your V6 RAM workhorse 👍💪

    How is your insurance so cheap for a Dodge challenger SXT AWD? I live in the DC metro area and Geico said they would charge me like $218/month which times 12 months is over $2400 a year compared to your $600 and some change. I am around the same age as you, 57. I have to pay 4 times the amount for insurance. I need to get out of this area.

      Wow, I do know locations are a huge impact on insurance rates. Apparently, Florida is THE OUTLANDISH insurance rate state! 🤯Michigan usually is in the "high realm", especially metro Detroit area I've heard can cause folks to move out due to the car insurance premium costs. I use Progressive's insurance quote system BUT I also usually carry a high-deductible to keep my insurance rates low...sort of act as my own "insurance company" as long as I keep some cash in reserve for any accidents rather than paying them higher premiums...done that most of my life just to try saving money but it can bite when accidents happen. 😤Of course, insurance companies also use credit ratings to determine rates and I've had close to 850 and no speeding tickets since I was in my 20s. So many factors in those stupid premium rates 😆Thanks for watching and joining the conversation here 👍

      @WorksIRL Thank you for responding to my comment! I appreciate you and your channel. Keep up the good work. I am thinking about getting a challenger but I am having trouble deciding what trim level and options I want and need like the AWD with the V-6 or the RWD(open differential)with the V-6 or the RWD(limited slip and locking differential) with the V-8. Financially, all I can afford is the SXT, GT, or RT. In actuality the RT is probably to expensive for me to afford. Also, what I don't like about them is that they are high on the list of cars being stolen. And also a number of them have electrical, transmission, engine, etc., problems. I am thinking maybe I should just keep my very simple, humble, and very reliable Honda that gets great gas mileage.

      @@AndrewSmith-uz8bgI appreciate YOU watching and leaving true, honest feedback! I'd say I'm in exactly the same mindset as you! I truly can't stomach ANY new car prices nowadays and have gotten somewhat depressed that those days may have now officially passed me by and I'll need to simply keep what I've got going as long as I can. Though, I've heard and sort of seen prices starting to get "discounts" on Challengers at a few dealerships based on CarGurus.com and just casually searching a few minutes here and there. I have to remind myself how I feel at the gas pump when prices are soaring since when prices are edging lower, it's easy to forget the pain at the pump and the old "mind over heart" has to take priority but then the old "you only live once" heart says "you deserve the V8" and the argument between my brain and my heart continues 😆. I do think this car is the last of it's "kind" in terms of feeling like "old American metal/muscle" BUT...I wouldn't be surprised there will be a "new" Challenger or Charger where they put some more fuel-efficient but still powerful 6-cylinder and it'll be the next "Big Dog". So, your Honda will likely out-live any Dodge and cost you less in the end and likely more practical for everyday usage. I do think we have some rough economic times headed our way so I'm personally fighting this same decision battle since every time I see these darned Challengers, I can't help but want one...any of them. I keep telling myself I guess I could go and rent one when I feel the need and maybe that's the cheapest way to go to get it out of my system whenever I feel like I need a "muscle car fix."😆 Keep us posted what you decide because I'm clearly no help because if I woke up with an extra lump of cash I'd probably run out and buy a Challenger R/T V8 with a manual shift 😆. Good luck!
