    We did 5 days of intense potty training with my son and he was withholding. He was consistently holding for 16+ hours. We gave up and went back to diapers. He still held his pee for many hours for days afterwards. I got your book and didn’t find much on this (unless I missed it!) so I’m happy I found this podcast! It sounds like we might have to do a consultation before we try again.

      The 10th anniversary edition of the book (coming in May) addresses it. When I wrote the original PDF in 2009, and even in 2015 when the book was published, pee withholding was nowhere near as common as it is now. It's become MUCH more common in the last 3-5 years.

      @@danaprovenzano3961 absolutely. It was COVID. These kids were conceived, gestated, born, and lived their earliest months/years in a state of Fight or Flight. Even today's 18-20 month old kids are enduring The World's Anxiety over the state of literally everything. No matter how much we try to shield our kids from it, we can't, not fully. The wait list for CHILD PSYCHOLOGISTS is 3 years in some places these days. It's UNREAL. Our kids are SO ANXIOUS.

      @@ohcrapwithjamie wow that’s awful and interesting .. We trained my daughter in January she was right at 2 and thankfully didn’t withhold either. followed your book as my bible during that time and she’s so solid now with potty training!!! Has been for months!

    My 32month old is definitely in the pee withholding scenario. We are on Day 7 of potty training and he will hold for about 10hrs and overnight. We have been doing day and night training. Tears and resistance whenever we bring him to the potty. Unfortunately I don’t see any availability for consultation in the near future.

      You don't have to book with me. ☺ Check out the Certified Consultants' List at www.jamieglowacki.com/certifiedconsultants . Jen, Beth, Ashley, Liz, and Candida have all told me they specialize in helping with pee withholding. Liz, for example, has availability on her calendar for later today (6/25/24)! calendly.com/kneedeeppottytraining/15-minute-call?month=2024-06

    My son does fine at home but refuses to go at daycare. I took your advice and ditched diaper for nap time and night time. He can hold it. At daycare today we ditched diapers because he will hold it until his diaper and go. He held it for 10 hours today. It was insane and had me really worried. But the daycare workers said he doesn't seem distressed at all. They prompted him all day. Does this sound concerning?

    • @ohcrapwithjamie
      @ohcrapwithjamie  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If he doesn't seem distressed then it's probably fine. But I'd play around a bit, does he go when he needs to while you're out shopping, or at a friend's house, or anywhere other than home?
      If yes, then I'd do the Daycare Blueprint to help you analyze what's different about being at daycare.
      If he won't go anywhere other than home, then I'd start by practicing using the potty/toilet away from home in general.
      I did notice that you also mentioned he had been waiting until his (nap?) diaper, so I'll just confirm for you, removing those was the right move.

    Our 21 month old is on day 5 of potty training by your book and it has been a disaster! She peed in the potty a couple times on the second day and never again. She will not sit no matter what. She will sit on the big toilet a long time but will not pee. She also won’t pee at daycare, no matter how often they take her. We did four days at home but can’t take any more time off.
    I feel like she doesn’t know how to release the pee, the only time she did it was after like 20 minutes on the toilet, and it seemed accidental because she hasn’t done it again
    I scoured the book and podcast but I can’t seem to fix it with any tricks, so close to giving up!

      @ohcrapwithjamie  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At this point you have a couple of options. FIrst, if you can swing it, book a consult, because I have a method to fix this and it's 100% successful when supported 1-1 with a knowledgeable consultant. I'd suggest Jen, Liz, Ashley, Beth, or Candida. www.jamieglowacki.com/certifiedconsultants
      But if you can't manage a consult, then you can also Reset (completely rediaper) and see if things change in a few months. They often don't, so be prepared to get a consult at that time if needed, because you can only Reset once. Listen to episodes 32 and 36 on The Reset.

    I’ve PT’ing for 8 days now with a 25 month old. I got really worried last night because she “bounced” onto the chair and a little blood came out and she really cried. Didn’t want to pee for the rest of the evening. I was worried she may start withholding but I kept my cool and just started applying Aquafor and trying to be encouraging when she pees but otherwise unemotional. I know it must burn a little but other than not fully emptying her bladder she’s still moving forward today. I’ve just decided that we’ve come so far to go back now. It’s ok we’re on day 8 and she’s solidly in block 2. She will learn and she’s not dying. I saw the book has info on Poop trauma but not pee trauma. Maybe I’ll have to get that new edition. :)

      I'm a bit confused about what led to the blood, but if you're not concerned then I'm not either. 😅

    Hi, may I ask how consultation works, please? I'm from Hungary, successfully potty trained my first daughter at 2,5 yrs old, now struggling with my little daughter, now 2,5, too. She just doesn't want to pee in the potty. Otherwise very clever, speaks in full sentences since 1,5 yrs old. She withholds for 7 hrs, tiptoing, dancing, running in distress, on and off the potty, doesn't want to sit on it, gets up fast. Had 2-3 successful pees in it, but that's it, the rest was accidents, which she didn't like at all, cried a lot, even though we said it was all right, accidents happen. The last time she was on and off the potty for 3 hrs, then finally let it go on the floor so we put the diaper back because I thought I need to wait for her to want to do it. But I'm confused and don't know if I should keep doing it or forget it for 2-3 weeks and try again. And what if it happens again in a month. I feel like I tried everything, distract her, we sat together, her big sister showed it to her, I offered presents, she just simply doesn't want to. She definitely knows the difference between a diaper and a pants because now she often asks what she is wearing at the moment and if I say diaper, I see she is releasing. What do I do? Thank you!

      Consulting can either be done with me (Jamie) or with a certified consultant. Details are here:
      Book with Me: www.jamieglowacki.com/consult-with-jamie
      List of Certified Consultants: www.jamieglowacki.com/certifiedconsultants
      Most consultants work remotely either via zoom, walkie-talkie app, email, or phone, so you'd just pick one with a compatible time zone who you think would be a good fit both from an experience and cost perspective.

    Can you send me to your podcast where you talk about pee release strategies?

    • @ohcrapwithjamie
      @ohcrapwithjamie  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This IS the podcast on pee release strategies. If these tips don't do the trick for you, then a consult is the next step, I have a pee release protocol that is 100% effective when supervised (remotely is fine) by a consultant. Look for 'pee withholding' in their bio: www.jamieglowacki.com/certifiedconsultants
