This sketch is fantastic on so many levels. 1. Cass Elliot jokes about her weight and seems to enjoy being a comedian. 2. Harvey Korman comes in at the end. This was three years before his portrayal of the leacherous "Hedley Lamarr" in "Blazing Saddles". 3. This series episode aired December 1, 1971. The TV series M*A*S*H started airing September 17, 1972. Why do I mention this? Well, the priest entering is played by William Christopher, in a similar fashion that he would play Father Mulcahy throughout that one series. Is this sketch an audition for that role? Remember that he only started to portray Father Mulcahy from the second episode of M*A*S*H. 🙂
It's nice that the priest believes the two women are "young people". At the time of the sketch, Cass Elliot was 30 years, Carol Burnett 38 and William Christopher 39. 🙂
It was a bit on the nose but they balance it out with the other character, if she didn't think it was worth doing she could've negotiated for something a little more subtle but almost all the jokes in this are the exact opposite. So you can cherry pick all day about digs at religion, taboo books etc. but then, why even watch the sketch?
Three years late, but hopefully you see this.As a big person myself I get it. That being said,Cass started fighting back at mean fat comments with humor starting with high school. It has always been the most effective way to show strength dealing with cruelty. I have just started reading the memoir Cass's daughter Owen wrote. It is incredible and I highly recommend it.
How times have changed. This sketch wouldn't make sense today, that book isn't even a porn mag yet she's making such a fuss. These days hardly anyone would care.
"Where are the dirty books"? I spit out my coffee!!!
Cass and Carol were great together
Cass would've been great on SNL.
100%
Absolutely and her acting was actually good in a comedic way. Doesn’t feel like she’s just a guest reading lines. Shes good
@@peepstar47 she actually wanted to be an actor but when she applied they said she was to fat and lost a role to Barbra Streisand 🫤
This is exactly what I needed today: the late great Mama Cass Elliot asking, "Where are the dirty books?"
Cass had such a flair for comedy 😂😂😂😂😂
This is a phenomenal video! First time I’ve ever seen it, and I absolutely love it! I’m still laughing.😄
And you get Father Mulcahy
Love it ♥️
So talented! Toe to toe with Carrol! That would been an amazing sitcom or movie. Much loved and didn't fit the pop star mold.
I wish to have not given away that black and red winter hunting coat now after watching that hilarious sitcom episode.

A cameo from Father Mulcahy from MASH!
Lol at the ending 😂
Vicki Lawrence was so hot 🥵
Apart from the fat jokes this was funny

I thought the Fat jokes were the funniest part. Stop being so triggered. Life’s tough get a helmet

Your people maybe. Most of the world still disagrees
You'd be surprised.
Nice, found the boomers!
