Jerry Lewis didn't hand out praise easily to his peers in the entertainment industry but he once acknowledged Carol's talent saying she had great comedic timing
Jerry Lewis put on this character so well, you would never know he was 6’2” tall, killer handsome, aggressively assertive, intelligent, well spoken and, oh, my, could he dance! I love you, Jerry. I love you, Carol. This was the sweetest skit I have ever seen.
Been a Jerry Lewis fan for 60 yrs. Carol, I remember from the Garry Moore Show in the early 60's and a fan ever since. They understood their craft and the need to express it. Two icons in the comedy world. Carol is still with us, she's a living legend.:o)
This was absolute magic!! Each one played to the other with such incredible timing and accuracy. They were two comedic geniuses performing in extreme harmony...wow!!
Burnett and Lewis are hilarious together! This clip reminds me of how great Jerry Lewis was. In character, he is vulnerable and charming. And, Carol, of course, is on the threshold of becoming a legend.
Comedy gold! Jerry and Carol reproduced this particular sketch again on the Carol Burnett Show quite a few years later. Always loved how it ends on such a sweet note, thanks for sharing it.
Both ,,extremely talanted and historical icons,,,,,,who gave the world great laughs,,,rest forever in peace jerry lewis.....................you both were great
Thanks for posting this skit. I had never seen it before. I'll admit, as a teacher, I am torn between laughing and crying. Both characters are pictured as below average social skills and emotionally withdrawn. Jerry is even afraid his father will beat him. I enjoyed the second half much more than the father/son part... which is heart breaking.
Thanks for this reminder of just what a comic genius was Jerry Lewis. And the reminder that Carol was a regular performer on Gary Moore and destined for greatness was evident even then.
Thank you for posting this sketch. Carol Burnett and Jerry Lewis repeated this sketch, almost exactly, years later on her show, so it is great to see the original incarnation on the Garry Moore Show.
I thought this looked familiar! I'll have to look for that other version. So great to have two comedy legends together. So much talent. [ edit: Found it! th-cam.com/video/dukCC7jzHVk/w-d-xo.html ]
I loved Jerry Lewis when I was a kid in the 70s watching all the old films. TH-cam (and especially this channel) has been fantastic for seeing all the early TV clips that were never shown in the UK so haven't been repeated anywhere. Keep em coming!
I remember watching the Garry Moore show on tv and listening to him on the radio regularly when I was a kid back in the 1950s. It was a big boost to his tv show when he brought Carol Burnett on, he really discovered her, and she was a huge hit and quickly became one of my favorite performers. Garry and Durwood Kirby and his regular crew where seasoned vaudeville performers and Carol was a young and new face to comedy. She was fabulous on that show and went on to be a legend in showbusiness. It was certainly very fortunate that she and Jerry paired up in this sketch. I know they recapped it on her show years later, but I have always wished they had worked together more often; they were great together.
To see these two grand masters of modern comedy perform together when they were young and in their prime...to watch this with the added dimension of age having grown up with them from the early '60's to now is a very priceless and important thing to see especially regarding popular culture. The video with Lewis on Carroll Burnett should be seen before this video. Lewis was considered apparently by some in Hollywood as "too" difficult to work with because he was so exacting and "professional". He was one of a handful of artists because after all he was not just a performer, who "knew" both what to do and how to do it. Carroll Burnett was exactly as he describes her inn the video where he is commenting on her as an artist. One can see this in her television persona. I am 67 years old and what I see for the most part is an era which will disappear completely after my death. It is unfortunate, tragic even but as Jerry said what is out here now that passes for "entertainment" is garbage.
Those two will be together till the end of time, and forever in the afterlife. I've known a few couples like that, including the one I'm part of. And that's where you find your true love, folks.
Thank you so much!!! I haven’t had the chance to watch Jerry and Dean it’s almost like a year ahahaha until I found this video in my recommendation feed, thanks I really love them it’s been years now that I’ve began to love them! ☺️☺️☺️🙏🏻
Jerry Lewis invented that character and perfected it. While this Burnett character reminds me a bit of Agnes Gooch in _Auntie Mame_ , Carol also put subtlety into it. The writing is simple but brilliant. Anyone want to change a word? (I don't see any hands.) And their timing both with the words and the business is almost supernatural. My goodness! Almost 60 years ago. (Nice to see Durward Kirby again too.) Cheers me up on another pandemic evening at home.
I still wonder how Carol became the biggest thing in the early 70's.... I know it was great writers and supporting actors...but WHO said ... "that's it, she's the one? let's give her an hour long show"
Jerry Lewis didn't hand out praise easily to his peers in the entertainment industry but he once acknowledged Carol's talent saying she had great comedic timing
That's why I'm here, and it was really worth it.
Jerry's body movements, eyes ...so great

Absolutely brilliant and they didn’t miss a beat.
Yes, killer handsome!! 🙌 an absolute honey!
Handsome? He stated he was 6 ft. even, in his own book. Aggressively assertive or aggressively an ass? Intelligent? I don't see it.
I know! I remember him in the Nutty Professor and how he changed Killer Gorgeous!
@@nickpaine He probably did have some hubris, actors all do!

I never thought Jerry Lewis was funny but he's really good here with Carol Burnett.
This was absolute magic!! Each one played to the other with such incredible timing and accuracy. They were two comedic geniuses performing in extreme harmony...wow!!
The legend and future legend
This is comedy gold in 2020 still.
I love Carol and Jerry they act wonderful together 💖
Burnett and Lewis are hilarious together! This clip reminds me of how great Jerry Lewis was. In character, he is vulnerable and charming. And, Carol, of course, is on the threshold of becoming a legend.
Brilliant. The roots, or one of them, of that sweet innocence and comic timing of Gilda Radner and Bill Murray together on SNL.
This reminds me of the Lupner sketches on the original SNL with Bill Murray and Gilda Radner.
they no doubt borrowed the idea for their sketch
Excellent. Very funny and touching. Two legends.

This was so funny 😂 They were so good together❣️👏👏👏

Wow... Omg... The talent !
This was the funniest thing I have ever watched.

I know I’m in love - they are flawless!
They’re should have been Burnett and Lewis. :)
They have identical nerdy glasses! A match made in heaven.

I totally loved this. I've always liked them both, but have never seen this sketch. It is great. Thank you, from me also, that you chose to post this.
OMG, Jerry Lewis was great.
Aw hell, they both were great.
masterful pair
Beautiful. 😻Moving ! I did not laugh. I saw with my heart ❤️
Agree... it was so funny and also of the heart, and feelings and awkwardness and connection..... comedy is humanity...
2 of my most favorite comedians of all times lol

These too together LMBO 😂😂😂😂Love them now this is comedy!!!!!!!💜
They were excellent together ❤
Haha, I love this! So cute!
Carol, going toe, to toe, with Jerry ...not so easy
Those two will be together till the end of time, and forever in the afterlife. I've known a few couples like that, including the one I'm part of. And that's where you find your true love, folks.
God bless you 🙏💖
🙏❤
One of the funniest things I've ever seen!
Thank you so much!!!

Cute and classic skit. Good job.
1961. 4 years old for me. These two are of a time for me. Jerry a little sooner than Carol. Both are a bit in my video viewing history.
Jerry Lewis was very popular in France.
They were awesome!
I love how he does a wonderful messed up person but he was a genius
Simply beautiful 😥👏💖
What a brilliant interpretation of Fred Astaire. Bravo!
Merci !!! Quel plaisir !!!! 💖
I love it
Jerry lewis it is something inside you as gold. You got something from Jesus Kristus thank you. You gave me many laughing. Soli deo gloria
Sure enjoyed this old clips of Jerry Lewis and Carol Burnett they were both great at pantomime skits.
This is genius stuff.
yay, thank you!

Jerry Lewis is hilariously funny very talented
Two masters of their trade.
Terrific skit.
They did this again about 10 years later on her show.
This was sweet and i caught myself laughing at parts I saw coming a mile away. THAT is talent.
Precious!
I guess this is where SNL came up with the Gilda Radner and Bill Murray skits. It’s very close.
I feel like this when I’m being flirted with or courted 😂
GinnieKinz💜 YES🤦🏻♀️
My senses are reeled in by remembering the reality of my past relationship. 🤔
I REMEMBER MEETING GERRYS'S SON GARY "GARY LEWIS &THE PLAYBOY'S SUCH A GENTLEMAN......❤
Durwood Kerby, who was the long time announcer for Garry Moore, is part of this sketch.
I was trying to remember Durwood Kerby's last name, I was surprised that I rem. his first name. I thank you!
Comedy gold!!!
Funniest fall I think I ever seen :)))
Comedy gold! 😄
The best of the best.
Gary Moore and Danny Kaye both had hit shows before Carol Burnett and its impossible to see them now.
Kind of reminds me of Bill Murray and Gilda Radner as the nerds in the Lupner sketches on SNL.
Exactly what I was thinking
"Taa-ahd! Quit it Taa-ahd!"
Brilliant!!!
Not only Carol and Jerry, but Kurward Derby, too!
Bravo, bravo.
Brilliant.
Steve Martin in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels had to have gleaned a little for his Rupert character from this Jerry Lewis' Dexter character
With Durward Kirby too! Does anyone remember The Kurward Derby from Rocky and Bullwinkle?
Amy Farrah-Fowler’s parents! 😎
Genius
Great!
When they both put the glasses on 🤓😅😅
The nerds dance too.
Jerry Lewis was once asked who he thought was the most talented female comedian and he answered Carol Burnett
Comedic Pros.
Humor!
That was hilarious
I still wonder how Carol became the biggest thing in the early 70's.... I know it was great writers and supporting actors...but WHO said ... "that's it, she's the one? let's give her an hour long show"
She’s hilarious
There's always someone for everyone.
Wow Durwood Kirby was a big part of the show.
Very funny!
I watched the whole thing. It was a bit long.
Finally.😂😂😂
This is the character that Henry Winkler played when he rescued the boys form the female biker gang.
Good times from an era gone by. Turn on the tube today and the only thing on is violence, killing, stories of drug dealing etc etc.
😍😍😍😍
Carol's character here was sort of a prototype of several regular ones she would become on her show...
Jerry Lewis still looks sexy
He was irresistible! Beautiful features! Such a cute face!

il le savait et s'en servait si bien pour le plus grand plaisir du public !
he knew it and used it so well to the delight of the public 💖
il le savait et s'en servait si bien pour le plus grand plaisir du public 💖
Sometimes I think Robin Williams kind of takes after Jerry Lewis...
Also John Ritter.
