I use to be a weekend hiker. Then I had a stroke . I was convinced that I would never hike again. Then I started watching you! I get out and take small nature walks at a persves her in Oklahoma. I leave to go to Colorado and I am taking a some handicap trails, and I'm fifty two yrs old. I'm going to get back on the trail. Keep you updated. You and perk are an inspiration.
Hi there. Hello from Portugal. I'm a late hiker that got in touch with this nice world of backpacking not long ago. I live in south part of the country which is considered one of the best places to hike in Europe. It was known for its nice beaches and always shining sun. But recently people start to stroll around and find out that it offers some nice places to visit and enjoy nature as they walk. Your videos are inspiring and have a lot of important information. Thank you for sharing your world with us.
Hello I am from upstate New York, the real NY. I am a 77 yo day hiker. I love and enjoy your videos so much. Most of my hiking is in the Adirondack and the Catskills. We have some real wilderness areas in the Adirondacks.
We left trail magic between Lordsburg and silver city a couple of days ago. My daughter and I will keep it replenished as much as possible for future hikers. (45 mins from my house). :)
Hey from Arizona!!! Native Zonie here and did LOTS of hiking both in the desert and in the mountain north. Water, water, and more water. You simply cannot hydrate enough as you have found out. Keeping a slow and steady pace is the best. If you are going to begin using a hat make sure the brim is dark colored to reduce the reflection into your eyes. Tough part right now but as you know as your move further north, it will get cooler but for right now... Great update, keep them coming. It's a vicarious thrill to "accompany" you. Right now my wife and I are looking at the AZ Trail for a goal over the next few years.
Very good Q&A Dixie. Water is your gold, I know you know that and really glad you have the inReach. It’s a wonderful tool for Plan B,C, and D. The inevitable often happens and you will be prepared. I am 71 and hike alone a fair amount and it is your safety net and also keeps loved ones informed you are ok. I use mine all the time. The built-in messages are great too. “I’m ok”,”Stopping here”, all of them. The battery life is truly unbelievably great as Garmin did their homework on that. I also carry a solar charger in addition to a Frog charger. The iridium satellite system is great. Was in a rainstorm one night at 4300’ in the Monongahelia National Forest Wilderness, in my tent, reading a book and it beeped I had a text. It was my nephew in Puerto Rico where he was working at the time, checking on me. That keeps those loved ones happy and the rescue feature has a proven record too. I hike in the Adirondacks and people are always being pulled out, saved by their inReach. With that, water, food and your wonderful mental toughness we all enjoy, as well as your sense of humor, you will do this!!!!!
Not to stroke your ego, but you are special to us, Girl! You're our little Dixie Chick! LOL! We all want to see you accomplish your triple crown. You Go Girl!!
Hi from Canada! I binge watched all of you other videos as soon as I found you. Im doing my own AT thru hike in 2021 as soon as I am done school, cannot wait
I recently made the decision to get beyond casual hiking to conquer the Triple Crown! (As I've always wanted to do the PCT and AT, what's one more 😎) I found you while researching how to be a better backpacker and am thrilled to see you've achieved so much! Thank you for all your content. I have no doubt it will help me plan and hike better and happier! Love from Utah! ~Meredith
You never disappoint! Love the little table of contents to be able to go back and catch something again without guessing where it is. Even that's not a bad option as the videos are really well done, way better than most of the junk on TV these days!
Hi pretty girl I'm a 54 year old Nanna from Texas I love to watch your videos. Wish I could do the trails out there too. Its not my age but Lupus that keeps me from going. I enjoy your videos so much have a great time and your friends too. Safe travels and keep the videos coming!
I appreciate your decision on not tying yourself to any sponsors. Keep your independence and integrity intact. Hope there are some trees for you guys in the near future.
We love watching your channel! AGG now has additional colors available in the Rain Jacket, as well as some other cool updated features. We've considered adding a visor to the hood, so we'll keep that in mind for the future! (: Thanks!
You'll get cooler when you hit the Rockies in Colorado. Expecting more snow the next two days at 7,600' at RMNP. The elk are calving and the bears are waking up! Enjoy and stay safe!
So glad to hear about the crapping your pants bar to be a real thru hiker lol. I thought I was the only one! Definitely gets me out of bed early every morning!
Your comment on the numerous cattle trails reminds me of what I wrote in my journal when hiking the Condor Trail (the 400 mile one in California). "I started to come to the conclusion that whenever I found a junction between a good trail and a faint trail, the faint trail was the actual trail and the better one was a cow path." I don't get chafing between the thighs if my pant legs are long enough to cover them so there is no skin on skin rubbing. Good reason to wear long pants at least part of the time until you develop those thighs of steel. ;-)
Greetings from Scotland! Thank you for your videos and sharing experience. I'm using inReach and as you said it sometimes unpairs and struggles to pair again. For me the easiest way is just to just remove (forget) the devise in my phone and pair again. If anybody asks. ;) Be safe and have a great time!
Hi Dixie! Great post. I had really bad plantar fasciitis a few years back - like hot-poker-god-kill-me kind of pain. Sounds like you've had great results with Dr. Scholl's. I use Powerstep Pinnacle arch supports. They are about twice the cost but the arch support is more firm and more raised. If it flares up again, you might want to give them a try!
This is better than TV. I love following the ups and downs of your trek. I feel like an expert on trekking now just by watching youtube. :-) Thanks for sharing!
So excited to follow along on your journey of the CDT! I’m planning a section hike of the AT with some of my summer holiday- your videos are getting me through work and making me so excited to be out in the trail again!
So cool to have the contact of the Q&A time with ya! I know I’m not alone when I say we covet our Dixie time! I must have missed something because I didn’t know this was coming up. Hopefully I can get in on the live Q&A time. Glad you have the InReach, I know your family is happy about that as well. So proud of you and happy for you! Still praying that your journey is safe and wonderful! Happy Trails!
Neutragena sunscreen is both as sweat resistant as any of them, uses sunscreen chemicals that last (some brands lose 50% or mor in a year), and is probably the best tolerated sunscreen out there. I always carry an SPF-30 and another with as high an SPF as I can find. More expensive, but it works well--I usually put it on late morning, so I can tan in the morning while the sun is lower and the rays pass through more air before they get to you. There are some other hard to find brands that for the "light" SPF 25--30 are as good. Look for non-cosmogenetic on the label as some will clog the pores in your skin and cause skin troubles. For a guy the scent of the Neutragena sucks!
Hello from Alberta Canada 👋🏼👋🏼I love your vids and I am planning my own thru hike 2019 of The great divide trail and am likely starting where you end! I hope you have a great hike girl, have fun and play safe!!
Love that you took the time to do a Q&A. You're awesome! Aaron probably was showing signs of heat exhaustion, so it's good that y'all went into town. I'm looking forward to the best episode!
Hey Dixie, the CDT is nothing like the other 2 thru trails !!! And I mean that in every way possible !. I'm from the south west and I Really hope you DO GOto long pants, all to do with ur health not brush ! Even after u leave the south and hit the " mid " part long pants against the sun will be ur friend. I feel for Aron, the CDT is NOT what I would choose for a 1st anything. The long openness in lot of it is a real mental game.but I know you'll take care of ur bud !!! PS. The coast to coast has got to be next... you'll get a drunkenness while on that one... don't know how to explain that.. take care and enjoy.i love that walk 😎😋
Attended the CDT Trail days and met several hikers who said you were a couple of weeks past Silver City. Watch the weather, fires, & siesta in the afternoon. 😀
Life is mostly at night in the low desert. In Silver City the trees start and the animals become more apparent. Cougars, bears. peccary, rabbits, road runners, and south of us prong horn are seen. Natural water runs through town. I don't the trail, but the mountains should have a lot more water north of SC
Dixie use baking powder on your chafed legs baking powder works amazingly well instant relief I usually buy a container pour it into a ziplock bag for when I'm on the trail
Dixie after your triple crown is done would you like to go back and do the John Muir trail the Colorado trail or the AT again.?. you guys are doing good stay safe.
Can you do a video on the inreach how you set it up and hike with it also get off the trail and find your way back with it . I want to buy one but worried it's hard to set up and use how good is it without the monthly subscription?
If I could make a suggestion that you would make a video about in reach GPS communication device since it seems to me to be a very good piece of equipment to have in regards to safety and communication with family. Unless you have already done that and maybe I have not seen that video. I just seems to be an awesome piece of equipment. Hope you do well on the CDT.
Hey, Dixie, greetings from Ky. Just sharing my favorite trail meal with you. Let me know what you think. You’ve heard of a Ramen Bomb? Instead of instant potatoes try noodles (no packet necessary unless you just want the extra sodium) and Idahoan Loaded Potato Soup plus your favorite source of protein. It’s so freaking good👍🏼
Does guthooks app show all the cannabis dispenceries in colorado? If not it should.Theres one about 50 miles east after you enter colorado. It works great as a deflamatory for sore and swollon muscles. That area is so remote.Gonna be exciting watching you guys go threw it.Good luck and thanks for sharing.
Hello Dixie do you know when you all will be on the CDT in montana as I live 30 to 40 minute's out and hike there and camp along the trail. Maybe do a meet and greet somewhere on the trail. Love your video's and the q&a peace keith
Is there any gear that your starting to question already and thinking of replacing already? Any gear you wish you had added that you didnt add and plan to later? Thank You for the video updates Dixie and take care.
Very thoughtful questions! Dixie, you should be seeing and hearing Cactus Wrens. You will smell the Javelinas before you see them. Kit foxes are also roaming the New Mexico deserts.
John McCarty No joke about the javalina smell. Used to live on the Mexican border and the smell would wake me up at night as they would approach my “guzzler”.
Dixie welcome to the southwest! Thanks for all you do, we very much enjoy your videos. Here's to your triple! :-) Get a canvas/fabric hat so you can wet it and wear for cooling.

Hey! I know this probably isn't the best time to bring it up since you are right in the thick of a huge adventure. But I was thinking that since your PCT trip was hampered by that huge snow year that you could try the JMT section later in a season when the snow is mostly gone. You could really take your time and get some great photos and footage. Heck, for you it would actually seem like a vacation! Anyway, good luck with your Triple Crown!

The correct term is "cow patties". Thanks for your candid reports along the trail.
You never disappoint! Love the little table of contents to be able to go back and catch something again without guessing where it is. Even that's not a bad option as the videos are really well done, way better than most of the junk on TV these days!
With the maps, compass and GPS when I hike CDT I'll hike at night. But this will be my 4th hike of NM on CDT.
Hi pretty girl I'm a 54 year old Nanna from Texas I love to watch your videos. Wish I could do the trails out there too. Its not my age but Lupus that keeps me from going. I enjoy your videos so much have a great time and your friends too. Safe travels and keep the videos coming!

YES, It's VERY windy on Mars in case you havn't heard, one windstorm covered the entire planet with dust in the last few weeks.
I love you Dixie, it's so nice to see you in between the week!
The sponsorship thing! I’m so glad that you’ve stayed true to your own brand and not fallen pray to the corporate matrix! 😎
Hey Dixie. Thank you for sharing your CDT journey. Happy Trails to you all✌️
Hello from Oregon :) Hope you don't stress too much about putting the videos up. Triple Crown - so proud if you!
I love the InReach!

Hi from South Africa,I love your videos and watch all of them
Thanks for the Q&A! Another hello from Minnesota.

Best quote from this vid....."if you don't cry and crap your pants, you're not a real thru- hiker". Lolol.....
I guess we oldsters better carry Depends?
If you need to drink while peeing you are either diabetic like myself or on trail.
Pinocchio Cozad What? Lol
Todd isn't there a pill version you wouldn't need to keep cold?
No, there's no such thing as an insulin pill. There are pumps, however.

You're the best! I really love watching your videos and you've inspired me to put the PCT on my goal list :)
Hopefully you will be well past the area of the summer thunder storms. Be aware as those storms are often deadly.
Hello from Alberta Canada 👋🏼👋🏼I love your vids and I am planning my own thru hike 2019 of The great divide trail and am likely starting where you end! I hope you have a great hike girl, have fun and play safe!!

Watching from Perth Australia, loving the series. Ironically as I watch this it's pouring rain 😛.

From Beijing, China too. I look forward to Wednesdays or our Thursdays. Lol.
Hey Dixie! Have you tried there red and green chili yet? I used to live in New Mexico and it is something you need to try while you are there.
Attended the CDT Trail days and met several hikers who said you were a couple of weeks past Silver City. Watch the weather, fires, & siesta in the afternoon. 😀
Awesome vid young lady it looks like you are having a fun time stay safe and have fun on the trail with your friends

Garmin just announced the inReach Mini. 4.2 oz vs 7.5 oz for the original inReach
Have you thought about a monocular or small binoculars to help spot those posts? Also what about a compass?
Dixie use baking powder on your chafed legs baking powder works amazingly well instant relief I usually buy a container pour it into a ziplock bag for when I'm on the trail
Dixie after your triple crown is done would you like to go back and do the John Muir trail the Colorado trail or the AT again.?. you guys are doing good stay safe.

She's like is that normal what she is doing.

Great update, hike on!
Thanks Dixie for giving us freeloaders some of your VIP content much appreciated! 😋
Can you do a video on the inreach how you set it up and hike with it also get off the trail and find your way back with it . I want to buy one but worried it's hard to set up and use how good is it without the monthly subscription?
Those sunglasses are HUGE! I guess that's good for the desert....
Dixie and Perk the people's triple crowner's. "All the way"
Here's a question for your next Q+A. Can you really keep your feet warm while hiking in snow wearing trail runners? Thanks
Neosporin for the legs and to reduce chaffing and bacteria
Enjoying the updates! What is the watch you are wearing?
Just joined as a patron - love your adventures!!!! keep the vids coming
Thanks for the update.. Great answers.
Gila alternate is at about mile 170 or so.
It’s so freaking good👍🏼
Hi Dixie, do you have any tips on water/electrolytes ratio on trail?
Great up date with info. Eveyone looks like they are doing great. Hope all goes well..and stay safe. Will be looking for your next video.
Hi From California
Does doing the vids take away from the enjoyment of doing the hike ?
Does guthooks app show all the cannabis dispenceries in colorado? If not it should.Theres one about 50 miles east after you enter colorado. It works great as a deflamatory for sore and swollon muscles. That area is so remote.Gonna be exciting watching you guys go threw it.Good luck and thanks for sharing.
Thank you Dixie! Great q&a
Hello Dixie do you know when you all will be on the CDT in montana as I live 30 to 40 minute's out and hike there and camp along the trail. Maybe do a meet and greet somewhere on the trail. Love your video's and the q&a peace keith

There is no mistaking the "aroma" I got up close and personal with a group at Big Bend National Park in Texas.
What brand and model umbrella do you recommend?
Dixie welcome to the southwest! Thanks for all you do, we very much enjoy your videos. Here's to your triple! :-) Get a canvas/fabric hat so you can wet it and wear for cooling.
Not sure if this helps or if someone else has said but I know Darwin has said that when he is approached for gear reviews he has a disclaimer that he isn’t paid for it and he tells the company it will be an honest review versus a positive review etc.
That’s some tough terrain!
I’m thinking there’s a reason you’re not seeing any wildlife. It’s cuz nothing can live out there aside from snakes and jackrabbits.
Hopefully you’ll run into some trail magic soon.
Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Never underestimate the VALUE of an excellent pair of polaroid sunglasses.
...you mean polarized?
Indeed I do, thanks for the correction.
You can edit your comments.
Actually Polaroid lenses is a correct term
Polaroid is a brand name of polarized glasses and lenses.
Great Q & A's, just bought my first pair of Lone Peak 3.5's love 'um, Thank-You
Thanks Dixie for the Q&A. Go #TeamDixie2018
Don't take to many zero days. Weather there is not like Sierra in the late summer.
I want to leave some trail Magic. I'm not sure where to leave it I live near the Rocky Mountain National Park.
You are Awesome.
Hey from Iowa .
Most of the wildlife is going to move around in the early twilight just before and after the sun sets.
Also, congrats on 100k subs!
North Dakota says Hi !
I heard you have to leave your own water cashes the first bit of the trail. Did you have to do that or do trail angels keep up the cashes?
Thanks Dixie ☺🌵🌻🌵🌻💗
