I've been watching all of your thru hikes in order and they are amazing. You should be proud. I've heard you speak of bucket lists often and I question them as a whole. I was diagnosed with a terminal illness, it stole many dreams from me. One of them being hiking the pct. My husband will be doing it in my honor after I pass. Back to bucket lists... It's fine to do things you like, we are selfish creatures, but a bucket list is not going to make you feel better when you die. There is nothing wrong with having a list of things that you wish to accomplish, you are alive and everyone should experience weird things, its great! However thinking that checking things off a list is going to make your life worth living is wrong. Giving something of ourselves is whats going to make our lives worth living. What I see of the actions you take on your journey is what makes it worth it. Saving the calf, giving a wasp a second chance, those are the things that count, Good for you! Give freely, love openly, and bow gracefully.
Thank you Dixie. Last year I watched practically all of your videos and they helped inspire my AT hike this year. I passed mile 700 today. The VA Blues are in full swing, but I know one foot in front of the other heals everything. :) Thank you for the inspiration.
I got to stay at the palace a number of times when I was a kid. The door under the stairs used to have a "game room" of sorts. There was a small putting green and board games and books. Pretty neat place to stay.
It is hard to strike that balance between work, life, leisure, goals, etc. Thank you for showing us it is possible to leave the typical path for life and pursue more enriching experiences.
❤ I lost my husband to cancer a few years back and it total changed my perspectives on life!!! I have a job I don't like very much but in to close to getting a retirement check to piss it all away but I live life to the fullest every day. I hike, camp, and explore every chance I get. PCT is the first thing I am doing right after I retire!!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
I blame Dixie for making me spend so much money on hiking equipment and planning big trips. How could you. Making me get out of my room and see the world. I could be buying video games and spending time at my desk all day but no, gotta go sleep under the stars and explore nature's beauty. I'm gonna yo-yo the Knobstone Trail in a couple weeks because of this series. How could you Dixie.
Miss Dixie would be proud..She inspires us all in so many ways. Are you going to vlog your trek of the KT for youtube? Good luck and enjoy southern Indiana.
Lol this comment made me laugh. Very cool you’re getting out and hiking. It’s amazinc to see the world through the trail. Good luck on your upcoming trip! Sounds cool
Right now I'm living vicariously through Dixie's adventures. I take care of my mom she has dementia and my uncle. When this season of my life changes I'm going to desperately need the trail for some healing time.
Dixie, you are such an inspiration. I have been taking hikes all over my area. Joined a group called 52 Hike Challenge and when I am home I'm watching your videos. I even slept in my car one night to practice "camping". Go Dixie Go!
Your relaxed style makes me so warm and fuzzy insize. You are such a beautiful human being -- you bring joy and happiness wherever you show up. I listened to your observations regarding, well, life, not letting it pass and broadly speaking being an positive, inspiring person (I think you're doing it regardless of your lack of effort, subconsciously) and it made me think a bit... Thank you SO MUCH for this insight into great person in the beautiful sauce of the great outdoors and with a tasty side of great music. Thank you and have fun and satisfaction in your endeavours!
I gave that swayze biography to a friend of mine years ago, he seemed like such a good guy. anyway its always a gift to learn from others, thanks for sharing!
Love the trail video and narration. Have followed you on the AT and the PCT. But really enjoy the additional “behind the scenes” perspective of camp set up (“missing stakes”, less than ideal conditions, etc.), pack up, meal prep (cheese stick in potatoes), looking at blisters, etc. Show us what’s in your resupply box and what you were thinking when it was packed. More “behind the scenes”, if that makes sense. Keep it up!
Another great video! I grew up backpacking in the west and learned the hard way to always follow a couple of rules (everywhere). 1) Alwaysalwaysalways drink your fill at the source - the best place to store water is in your body. 2) Alwaysalwaysalways pack at least enough water away from the source to make it at least *repeat at least* to the second known water source - you never ever know when a source will be dry or too foul to filter safely. If that first source is bad, start rationing your water to last to the third source so you don't run out if the second is bad too. Even following these rules, I've had a couple close calls where I had to ration further and/or hike some dry miles. When that happens, you can help yourself a lot by sucking on something like a button or a toggle - something small and made of hard plastic, non-reactive metal, or polished wood. That will keep the juices flowing and keep your mouth and throat from drying out. It won't solve the problem but it will make you a lot more comfortable across dry miles. Also being pretty religious about breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth will help a lot.
These videos keep getting better! It's so inspiring to go on a thru hike after watching your videos! I can't wait until I am able to afford all the gear and make the time to hike the AT. (I've watched the AT series about 3 times now you could say I'm addicted)
I found your channel a few days ago when I was home sick. I watched through all of the PCT videos. I'm excited to watch your CTD adventure as it unfolds. Also, you lit a fire in me to go out and start hiking. When I'm better, of course.
You have got to watch the AT videos. It is amazing to see the her at the beginning of the approach trail in GA, and then to watch as a meek, nervous young lady morphs into "Dixie", the confident, coherent, and content. She is now at the top of the game!! Welcome to our world. We're all still looking for more ideas on how to ease the withdrawal symptoms between videos. Cheers!
So proud of your first big mileage, Aaron! Also shoutout to you for that awesome edit there at the end. You bridge the gap between y’all out there and us in here and we are so grateful!
You are a very strong lady. Always staying on the positive. Thank you for sharing another journey in your life. I have followed you since the AT, PCT, & now the CDT. Love every single moment. God bless, love & peace ✌🏻 so proud of you 👍
Love all the videos, always a nugget of gold in every one. I started hiking last spring when I stumbled onto the the AT series that I binged watched, and then followed the PCT hike, too. Every time I think I've watched all of your videos, I find one I missed. Thanks for turning me onto Overdrive. It helped me finish some school projects and listen to books at the same time, which made my life much better. I'm excited to get out and hike and camp this summer. Thanks Dixie! Keep rocking on lady!!!
These keep getting better as time moves on, and I'm going to be both happy for you and bummed when you finish the triple crown! ...unless you go back and do the AT again using all the filming and editing skills you learned. Have to admit the AT videos were far and away my favorites, mostly due to the people you hiked with and the bond you all had.
Can't wait to see your passage through the Gila Wilderness. I grew up in central AZ on the Gila River and our Boy Scout troop took a trip to it for the headwaters. Fantastic scenery. One tip, NEVER trust a map of southern AZ or NM when it say that there is a creek or spring.
No matter how or short your videos are your narration and what you are experiencing are greatly appreciated. I await your next video with anxious anticipation.
Not sure if Aaron gets more of the credit or you do, Dixie, but your videos stand out from what is becoming a crowded field. What you're doing in this one especially is to relate the specific to the general, which is wonderful storytelling. Lots of hikers are making videos, some quite entertaining, which pretty much consist of "Here's what happened to me today." You're taking that "Here's what happened to me today" stuff and making it relevant to more general or philosophical thoughts that we all have. That's giving us the viewers a window into not just your experiences, but to our own as well. Congratulations on becoming a damned fine storyteller.
I love your videos. It would be really cool if you had a map at the end of each video showing how far you went on that particular episode. That would help us follow along and understand where you are. Keep up the great videos.
Another great video and amazing editing. Don't know how you do such an amazing job with the videos from the road, but thanks for all you are doing for us sitting around living vicariously.
Thank you guys, keep the vids coming. Dixie you've inspired me. I and my gf have watched your Apt & Pct vids. We've been hiking together for a yr now, just wkend hikes but we love it. If we ever see through hikers anywhere, our trail angel wings will sprout for sure. Thanks again, we'll be waiting for the next vid.
You are so awesome and motivating. I can’t get enough of your positivity during adversity, you a shining example of a beautiful person inside and out lady!! Hope to see you out on trail sometime 😁
After only seeing a few of your videos, I'm definitely impressed. I am however curious if, while on your adventures, are you taking advantage of and enjoying what nature has to offer you in ways of edible mushrooms and foliage? Also...I'd love to see you come explore the north shores of Lake Superior in Canada. Start in Thunder Bay and go hike the Sleeping Giant. Oh yeah....probably best to do that in July or August....if you like warmth. lol so worth it though. sorry for the rambling.....had a few after work! :)
Don't know what to say that I haven"t already said on other posts, enjoyed, amazed at what yall can do. Looking forward to video of the Gila River area.
Whomever gave a thumbs down was voting for ‘do you like road hiking better than trail hiking’. You’re awesome, Dixie! Every Wednesday brings a present with your videos.
Jennifer Pierce so awesome that you share this with your students. I hope and trust that your telling / Encouraging them to do all the things they want BEFORE they get bogged down with life's responsibilities and dreams and adventures go unrealized. Good job lady.
Jennifer Pierce Excellent! That is so cool that your students are following Dixie and Perc and Aaron. Are they following on a map, too for a geography lesson?
Jennifer Pierce what lucky students to have such a cool teacher. I think Dixie's videos always contain alot of valuable life lessons we all can learn from, as well as the geography, history and environmental issues. Kudos to you as a thoughtful educator!
Having a good time! Has anyone hiked the PCT or AT living only off of hiker boxes? Might be an amzing triple crown accomplishment in a few years when more folks are on the CDT.
I literally did a happy dance at work when I got the notification about this video!!! I couldn't wait to go home and watch!! Stay safe & love the adventures you include us on!
ANother good video if a bit short, guess weve come to expect more for some reason. BUT, this is YOUR trip and weve no right to ask for longer vids. THANK YOU for those you do give us. And Good Luck and stay healthy.

Looking like you all are going somewhere too. love it like it I want some more of It, looks like your getting more trail behind you. Your Video & narration is going great, again.
man waiting for the next video is like waiting for the next season of the walking dead, I just can't wait.congratulations on the 100 mile mark only 2900 or so to go.
I used to live north of Durango, CO. I camped the entire summers. The Milky Way (not the candy bar) and Nutter Butter cookies are my fondest memories. You obviously are not in CO yet, but the sky must be amazing.
It's getting real up in this hike have to admit looks like the hardest out of the three for the triple crown! Have fun and be careful thanks for sharing Dixie.
You all rolled the dice on that RV park still having water, and you came up winners! Don't you just love it when a plan comes together like that? Happy Trails.
Hit Dixie! I’m like everyone else, excited to have another “Episode”,😎 I’m interested to see what your take is on the trail through the Gila! It’s pretty awesome. Happy that your hike is going well! Be safe and of course! Happy Trails! Gary
It was easy to follow your videos on the PCT because they were titled with big white numbers. It would be nice if you could do something similar for the CDT videos too.
WhoohooWednesday! Good to see some terrain change...I half expected to see Wile E. Coyote waiting on the roadrunner along that stretch of highway. Congrats on the first 100 and to Aarons biggest mile day! Hope you all are safe. I know youre having fun. Thanks so much for taking us all along! GODIXIEGOPERKGOAARON!
Dixie, you might enjoy the book Roughing It by Mark Twain. My daughter and I listened to it while doing a road trip in western USA. We enjoyed being in places like he described. We laughed a lot. Made the miles fly by.

Good one!
Class action law suit against Dixie? 😃
I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a 12 step program if Dixie stops making videos. Thoughts to ponder at the end are great timing for my life.
Why is that, Freedom?
Perhaps that will be the logical point for you to jump off and begin making your own adventures :)
Right now I'm living vicariously through Dixie's adventures. I take care of my mom she has dementia and my uncle. When this season of my life changes I'm going to desperately need the trail for some healing time.

Thanks for the 100-mile marker, to give us an idea of how far along, even if you had to make the marker! No other hikers?
Big effort this year to mark the entire trail, signing up volunteers to assist with marking. Sounds like it is needed.
9:45 wise of Aaron to walk on the roadside instead the asphalt - perhaps easier on the feet/joints
Love the trail video and narration. Have followed you on the AT and the PCT. Definitely will be watching the AT videos this week. :) It will be so cool to see that transformation. It gives me hope for myself.
You will absolutely love it... I promise! WARNING! there is no known cure for Dixie-mania
Your editor is killing it. Another great video Dixie!
Yay!! back country shepherd's pie! Love the little details of daily life on the trail.
I can't wait for you to reach Colorful Colorado! Trail Magic will be waiting for you when you least expect it.
So proud of your first big mileage, Aaron! Also shoutout to you for that awesome edit there at the end. You bridge the gap between y’all out there and us in here and we are so grateful!
That was the shortest 13 mins ever. I need more! So good.
Perk wore a tie to dinner! LOVE these
Awesome adventure, Dixie. I'll be doing the AT in 2020 for my 50th.
That’s awesome! What an amazing experience that will be for yourself! Good luck in 2020!
Thanks, Kristina. I'm looking forward to it.
Outstanding! I'm hoping to attack the AT then as well. I also turn 50 that year. Good luck!!
Good luck to you too, Susan!
You are a very strong lady. Always staying on the positive. Thank you for sharing another journey in your life. I have followed you since the AT, PCT, & now the CDT. Love every single moment. God bless, love & peace ✌🏻 so proud of you 👍

Michael Christopher well she could do the triple crown SOBO.
No she should kayak / canoe the Mississippi next, that would be awesome and something a little different too,
I think she needs to do Alaska or BC. So much is changing...
Wow thirty mile day. Good view of the sunrise and nice collage at the end.
No matter how or short your videos are your narration and what you are experiencing are greatly appreciated. I await your next video with anxious anticipation.
Perk is officially my hero. I mean wearing a tie + button up and carrying a uke while hiking.

Awesome! Hope Y'all get to Colorado soon!
I've been waiting all week for an update! So excited to be able to be on this journey with you.
I love your videos. It would be really cool if you had a map at the end of each video showing how far you went on that particular episode. That would help us follow along and understand where you are. Keep up the great videos.
Glad the trail is getting more interesting! Thanks for sharing the room & other things besides the trail.
I enjoy seeing the old buildings along the way and learn a little history. Thanks for a GREAT video!
Your videos made me start hiking!
A cure for modern day politics? Dixie for President! Make America Hike Again!!!
I agree, Dixie for President! Seriously.
Another great video and amazing editing. Don't know how you do such an amazing job with the videos from the road, but thanks for all you are doing for us sitting around living vicariously.
So happy for a new vlog. I love seeing you out on the CDT. Now I am planning my own thur-hike. Xx
That's awesome. Best wishes!

I went to school in Silver, this makes me miss New Mexico so bad.
Having a good time! Has anyone hiked the PCT or AT living only off of hiker boxes? Might be an amzing triple crown accomplishment in a few years when more folks are on the CDT.

ANother good video if a bit short, guess weve come to expect more for some reason. BUT, this is YOUR trip and weve no right to ask for longer vids. THANK YOU for those you do give us. And Good Luck and stay healthy.
Bravo, Dixie! You are a great inspiration and motivator. I can see you giving talks and exalting many to persevere and achieve their goals. Keep on, keepin’ on! 👍🏻

man waiting for the next video is like waiting for the next season of the walking dead, I just can't wait.congratulations on the 100 mile mark only 2900 or so to go.
Those road walks are hot days. But the Gila is almost upon you. It’s so pretty!
I used to live north of Durango, CO. I camped the entire summers. The Milky Way (not the candy bar) and Nutter Butter cookies are my fondest memories. You obviously are not in CO yet, but the sky must be amazing.
The trail you did not take is really neat. Oh well. Plenty to go!
Trail beasts, that is what the three of you are!! Dixie...for the gazillionth time...thank you for sharing!
Amazing. Just amazing. Thank you for sharing your journey with the world - it's fascinating and so inspiring!
You are awesome Dixie! Love your frame of mind.
That scenery is so much more appealing than my Northern Michigan landscape! Wish I was there!
Loving the videos! Keep em coming! What's the brand of blue shirt you're wearing? I want one!
Awesome video and so great to watch. Thanks for bringing us along!
