Yep. The Pajero that was driven by Chan in the movie was an actual Pajero T1 (production class)! It participated in the 1997 edition, driven by the late Japanese female rally driver Makiko Tomokawa.

This video clearly demonstrates how far Mitsubishi as a car company has really fallen from grace. Nothing lasts forever im just glas i was alive to witness the golden era of Mitsubishi
Not just as a car company but also truck company (fuso branch).... Their older (especially V8) diesel trucks are damn near indestructible, and many still function today still enduring brutal abuse in the jungles. While their newer trucks are a nightmare of reliability 😢
yeah I miss mine RIP lol I have a Diesel outlander I drive Subaru Forrester now gasoline. Although gasoline is more practical for me I miss my big outlander there is something charming about diesel engines the powerful torque I I lived somewhere warmer I would only drive diesel.
My first Mitsubishi was a red 2-door Dodge Raider 5-speed, which was a Pajero in disguise. I drove it while attending community college in the late '80s. I REALLY loved everything about it!!! Today, after owning over 120 cars, the red Raider/Pajero is among my very favorites, along with my white 1988 E30 BMW 325i MTecnik and current Suzuki Kizashi SLS 6MT. A hilarious note of interest: My '09 Galant ES with its venerable iron block 4G69 emits the same belt whine as the Raider. I love it. The whine brings back happy memories everytime I start her up!!! 😊 😂❤
Did you know that Jackie Chan and Mitsubishi are still partners when it comes to cars. Pajero garnered popularity in the Jackie Chan movie title "Who am I".
The Evolution had double wishbones in the FRONT, not the back. The rear was a bespoke multi link that was developed specifically for the Evolution. The Evolution also had bigger brakes, longer suspension travel and a chassis that was 2X stiffer than stock. Shinozuka himself assisted with the chassis and suspension tuning.
In brazil, since we speak portuguese, we use the Pajero name. I thought Montero was a north american only name, but now knowing the reason for the name change, it makes sense why the rest of south america apparently doesn't use pajero.
i prefer dakar of the old where the vehicles are all based on production vehicles... rather than faux shell panels with tube frames of nowadays... sure they are much more capable now... but success in a production based vehicle is much more of a challenge than a tubeframe prototype.
The 2002 Dakar could be the most dominant win for any manufacturer in an multi-maker automotive race. Every car from 1-8 and 10 was a Mitsubishi, with the 5-6 places going to L200 Dakar prototypes.
Mitsubishi can and dominates if they want too.. In Dakar.. In Rallying.. Etc.. It’s mind boggling why they always stop or always self sabotage and discontinue.. Instead of developing it even more.. - The Lancer Evolutions.. Pajeros.. Etc.. Why we don’t know..
The UN bought Mitsubishi Monteros to use in the DRC/Congo because the 70 Series Land Cruisers were so expensive. The Monteros were all destroyed within 6 weeks and unable to be repaired due to the bad roads. The UN went back to Land Cruisers as they last 6 months before needing any significant repair, and usually limited to replacing suspension parts. Monteros only last when they have massive factory support and mechanics on the spot, the Land Cruiser don't require that type of support and they'll still get you home. That's why the military, mines, and heavy construction buy Land Cruisers.
One of my best cars and worst cars were Mitsubishi. The worst is a V6 Eclipse with airbag issues that they never able to resolve. The best was an Evo 10. It was modified and ran hard never broke.
The engine in my 2002 Hyundai XG350 L is the 3.5L Sigma V6 which is derived (copied, since mitsubishi helped out Hyundai with that design & the 5spd trans which is an exact copy of the F5A51) from the 6G72 (I think that's right, been a bit since I checked) from the late 90's Pajero & is a shared platform (but my engine has ½ a liter more) than the V6 in the 3000GT. They have lots of interchangeable parts, so I've read/heard. Gonna twin-turbo my car someday and it'll be the Hyundai XG350 VR4 L.*and do the AWD swap I wanna do, using Hyundai Santa Fe parts
I own a gen 4 pajero LWB. Man the super select system is superior to others. Last time I went for adventure with my cousins they were making fun of me thinking the pajero is not capable, they both ended up bogged and the only can went through was my car.
Not exactly. The smaller Pajero Sport isn’t as iconic as the Pajero and has far less motorsports credentials too, but what you’ve said is partially true with the demise of the “true” Pajero.
The Africa Twin of SUVs. Please avoid stretching old 4:3 video to 16:9, it looks unprofessional and diminishes the quality of a great video material, better leave it original with some zoomed out blurry version of it to fill the black areas.
