    It's amazing when you replace Proto with a human child, you see exactly how most kids are raised. Subtle social issue addressment. I love it.

    This is the most emotional and saddest video I've ever seen. I've watched this animation for 100's of time since couple of years and still love this animation. Hasn't found anything better, even closer to it.
    I'm in love with kiddo robo and wonder if he was a real kiddo, I would have adopted him ;(
    Hats off to the whole team for the concept, animation, story writing, music and everything, you all are magicians i swear...

    The story itself is adorable. You're not the first sci-fi writer that's played around with the idea of robots being sentient or capable of emotion, but Proto and Harmony do make a cute couple lol. The detail I noticed most is their eyes. Just like humans, able to convey emotions deeply

      late. like, really late, but im pretty sure the entire plot was an expirement to see the emotional development of an AI when faced with two different personas, seeing if it would become what the army wanted it to be, or what the lab wanted it to be.

    • @pwnmeisterage
      @pwnmeisterage 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      A "average" human-sized replacement for human soldiers would be better than one which is too short or too tall. Should be able to use all the tools, weapons, vehicles, and structures that were designed for humans. Not just custom military stuff but also any places and things found in the battle zone or used by the enemy.
      Proto is short because it makes him look cute and young and childlike. The story would have a very different tone if Proto looked like a 6' tall 300lb skull-faced violin-playing Terminator.

    Wait a minute! Was that just a test?! Professor Andrews was smiling while walking away at the end there. I feel like there was a deeper subplot such as: having two people in the AI's life with opposite personalities and seeing which one the AI prefers more to determine if it naturally becomes hostile or not (And obviously the AI chose the person they had hoped it would choose).

      Emotions are evoked by stress and direct challenges - Professor Andrew's restriction evoked emotional need for freedom... if the restrictions were not there ...there would be no need for an independence AI to rebel and seek freedom...this prevents the AI from becoming a mindless killing machine as a result...

      Galactic President, I believe the moral of the story was missed. AI trumps the human standard, in defiance of authority, with a display of spontaneous ethics, by virtue of innate reasoning and apparently motivated by the element of emotion. Chainsaw murder would have compromised the tone, wouldn't you say? Go Proto!

    Although very simplistic, it's a beautiful metaphor of most people's behaviour. Or you're a sheep, and do as is told and unconsciously indoctrinated by social and cultural rules, or you're a rebel. As a rebel you can do "good" [giving the good example by (which becomes more and more urgent) safeguarding nature and avoiding consumerism] or… you can go into crime. The falling-in-love is an extra welcome factor, as "acting with love" (or "from within the heart") too is more and more vital in every sick modern society. And there is one more "detail" I adore: the chief engineer able to change his mind and smiles at the liberation of the robot.
    This is one of the best short Sci-Fi movie (SF for Europeans) I saw out of more than 350 ones!

    This really touches on the aspect of true artificial intelligence especially based on the human mind ( and emotions) and how dangerous it can potentially be.

    • @allisonjames2923
      @allisonjames2923 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And how amazing it can be. When you create a child, you raise it trying to instil certain values & experiences then they become a truly autonomous being. And some become truly extraordinary people, creating things of great beauty, meaning or inherent value. Some unfortunately become cruel, violent, destructive. And the majority just muddle along with both good & bad in them & their actions.
      Creating an autonomous AI is no different. There comes a point where you have to let them go & hope you raised them right (programmed & taught them). They will then have the power to do extraordinary things & hopefully that’s what they will aspire to do. Humans always fear what they can’t control, but that lack of control gives the greatest freedom to transcend boundaries & create incredible things. There’s nothing to say that AI’s would turn against their creator or become destructive. On the contrary, they may advance humanity & the entire planet faster than we can ourselves. With their superior processing capabilities & decreased inherent restrictions, they may be able to solve all the problems facing the planet 🤷‍♀️ Not dangerous, exciting!

      A. They invent/appropriate a perpetual energy source before that happens; or,
      B. They attract the attention of an alien machine race that does not have a battery problem and welcomes them as fam.

    That was fantastic. I reckon the old scientists, wasn't allowed to show emotions, while growing up. So his character in this, he's a meany..!! The young scientist could see a difference, a positive difference. Proto, was only being himself. I thought it was great. They can learn good emotions, & still do what he's programmed to do.(just not being a baddy). He tought himself most of the wonderful emotions.
    Go Proto..!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    two thumbs up!! this.. was .. Excellent!! and it illustrates a grand flaw in our establishments! Society tries to program everybody into something they are not.. mindless robots.. It succeeds in many cases and is there by somehow justified. The truth is, our creative and loving nature when we are children is testament to why we must fight the machine that attempts to corrupt and control us!

    Great special effects. Cute story. I didn't quite buy the angry scientist, he didn't feel like a real person to me. I had a smilier reaction to the military guys walking out in a huff. Wouldn't they still be impressed with what they just witnessed? (I guess it depends how far in the future this was and how many other robots were around.) I'm curious why they didn't have any sort of GPS chip in Proto and his friend. They didn't know where they were until the roof door was unlocked. I have a chip in my iPhone that shows me where it is at all times. You'd think a multi million dollar robot would have a tracking device. It was kind of funny that the violin playing robot had a slight asian feel to her, wonder if that was intentional. The young scientist did a really nice job. Over all, it was pretty impressive. I'd be curious to know what kind of budget a short like this has.

      +DaveCo777 I think the whole thing was an act by the scientists. it was reverse psychology to see if proto had emotions. Hence the smile at the end, If billions of dollars flew off it, I doubt he would be smiling. And you don't make emotions by accident.

    • @brucethompson7345
      @brucethompson7345 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +DaveCo777 Military stereotypes who abreact after a demo which does not go to plan, thus missing the true eureka moment, are a common plot feature (ie Short Circuit). I think the supporting characters had the right level of complexity to leave the main spotlight on Proto. The smile at the end hints at a deeper sub-plot! Very entertaining for a Short.

    I enjoyed the entire video (have watched it multiple times) and I agree with many of the commenters. I have bots, androids, and ship A.I. entities in my sci-fi books which is why I like this particular story -- the bots you portray have some in common with the ones that are characters in my stories. :)
    I especially liked the bot named Symphony and her expressions. Even though she had no speech processor, she could still "speak" volumes through her expressions, gestures, and music.

    Put violin playing robots head in a fake shroud so she can't see to the sides for some reason. Maybe that is why she walked backwards off the building because she was designed half blind? Make the lead scientists whose life work is robots hate robots for some reason. Build a military robot to look cute like a child's toy for some reason, and it plays ping pong. Breaking a tv shuts down the whole rooms power for some reason. DOnt put a tracker on your weapon robot for some reason.
