Hi everyone! Simon and Kevin here, director and producer of the film. Thanks so much for watching our six-year passion project! As you might already know, the film was made entirely with practical effects - using a fish tank for the space images, a real robot, and miniature models. We'd love to answer any questions you have about the film or the process of making it! We have a deep love for genre films with heart, and we hope that shines through. Greetings from Sweden!
@@hoosez Thanks, Terry! We’re really happy to have already won the Méliès d'Argent for Best European Fantastic Short Film, along with 26 other awards. The reception has been better than we ever could have hoped for!
@@jamespaul2587 A good friend of ours actually came up with the chalkboard idea, so we can’t take credit for that one, haha. Really glad you enjoyed those details-thanks for watching!
Your film was obviously a labor of love, and quite emotional, and had a lot of heart. Beautiful storytelling. Congratulations on this gem of a short film.
@@KojanFilmYes that film you made is a gem. The musical score at the end was fantastic - I felt the emotion, me a 61 year old guy sobbing over that little fella! Great job! 👍💫🏆
Thanks so much! That’s exactly what we thought when we wrapped up the design process! We went with this look for practical reasons, but in the end, we realized he totally resembles what Eve and Wall-E’s kid might look like. We found that funny, especially because we love that film and it was one of our inspirations. :) Appreciate your comment!
@@SusanPearce_H I'd like to see you try in my native language (Dutch) and see how far you get without spelling errors... And by the way, four question marks is really impolite.
Incredibly well done, story is immersive and brilliantly executed. You kind of know the robot will make that sacrifice but it doesn't reduce the impact. And the practical effects, just wow. I got into model making because of the VFX of old, beautifully done.
Brilliant. 10/10. Best short I’ve seen. I’m pretty sure knowing this is all shot with practical effects makes it that much better. No dialogue but it’s filled with emotion. SO. GOOD.
Very moving. All those failures to rescue humans, and as a final sacrifice, saves his dream girl. A wonderful visual feast. Thank you and team for this.
So beautifully made! If I had not discovered this after reading your post about "practical effects" I would probably have given credit for very realistic effects, but remarkable quality of production! Congratulations on achieving this landmark. I hope your work inspires others to follow in your footsteps and focus on good storytelling rather than "special effects".

Way to go and make a grown man cry. Absolutely stunning. Your hard work and dedication shone through here. There is something in this that Special effects, cgi or AI can not offer, it has heart and warmth. A genuine element of depth and detail. Loved it.
A moving film with lovely music and atmosphere. A sad ending 😢 A lot of talent went into its production. Thank you for making it and my enjoyment watching it 😊
Stunning. An understated incredible artistic triumph in relaying the power of unconditional love. With the most perfect film score and sound reproduction. Had me in tears at the end. Well done. Gaz X
Thank you so much, Gaz! It's awesome to hear that the score and sound design added to the experience-it was all a labor of love. Truly appreciate your kind words!
I haven't seen everything published by dust, but this is by far an order of magnitude better than anything I've seen by them so far. In an age rife with fear of AI and how it may choose to end Humanity some day, this beautiful and simple story of self sacrifice rings with hope. Please, produce more like this. Perhaps your wee mechanical hero could survive the trip through the wormhole and influence an alien race to spare humanity. heh, heh. Great job, and thank you. Hope you can make it big, some day.
Thank you - that really means a lot! So glad the message of hope and sacrifice came through. We’ll keep pouring our hearts into projects like this and hope to bring you more stories worth watching. Thanks again for the awesome comment! :)
An amazing short, especially when you realise how it was made. the mark of a good story is that you become absorbed in it to the exclusion of everything else, and it certainly happened here. Loved the way you imparted humanity, and sacrifice to the droid. Alexa sends her thanks.
That means a lot to us, Robert! We felt it was important that the film had a story - simple as it may be - that made you feel something, rather than just looking good. Deciding to make everything practical kind of took care of that anyway haha. We put a lot of effort into the script and into making the robot feel human, so we're really glad that came through. Thank you!
Really appreciate your comment! Douglas Trumbull was a huge inspiration for us, his work on 2001, Close Encounters and Blade Runner set the standard for practical effects. Winning an award in his name for this film is probably our greatest honor. :)
So much effort goes into these short movies & AI audio only stories. Some fail or fall short for various reasons. This one is a winner. So sad, but that was the little fellows program. It's all in the eyes. Well done!
