      Yes it's still a great contender.

    I like the Puuko 140. Carbon steel, Scandi grind, and nice sharp spine.

    I like the respectful sound of your comparison. You show no disrespect to fans of any of the two knives, and that is quite right. Beyond parameters, a knife is very much a personal thing. Some may like the one, some the other. My choice is the purely functional Jääkäripuukko, but I can absolutely sympathize with those fond of the Falkniven. I know the feeling when you look at it, and feel "this is the one". And frankly, that's price is still far from surreal.

    The very fact they're even remotely comparable tells you all you need to know about the Jääkäripuukko. A lot of people say it's a great first knife. I think it might be my last.

    Another well done video. My new favorite channel! I love budget and quality knives. That's why I have dozens of Mora's and Marttiini knives. Love my Real Steel Bushcraft knife, which you did a vid on. My Terava Puukko 140 is coming and should arrive any day!! Thanks again for your time and videos!.... Craig

    I have had a Terava 140 for several years now. Absolutely great knife. The 80CrV2 carbon steel does not rust as quickly as say the standard carbon steel on a Mora HD, you have the time to clean it. Just wiping it off on your (dry) pants will do to keep it from rusting. They also do them in 12C27 type stainless, nothing wrong with that but the great advantage of the Teravas is really the 80CrV2 steel, as that is known to be ridiculously tough. It also holds a good working edge for a long time. Nice video, good comparison. Going to look at your 140 test video now ! Thanks.

      Good luck finding one in stainless. They haven’t stocked them in either length for many months. After I got my first one in carbon, I was going to go get one in stainless and use it with my existing sheath. They were gone; didn’t even have a product page for them. There is a comment on the stainless 140 page now that says they recently “found” some new old stock of those (now also sold out). But it sounds like they have no intention of producing the stainless ones again. Also, don’t think they were 12C27.

    Terävä Jääkäripuukko 140 has an extra advantage. With a Carbon Steel, You can use it as a Flint and Steel to make fire. Fällkniven S1 you need a ferro rod to make fire. Thank

    Fällkniven prices really puts me off.
    I have never felt the appeal of getting an expensive knife thats in the same price range of a custom knife or a cooler brand.
    Thats why I have a M95 Sissipuukko and a Skrama instead.

      I have the 140 and the 85...I would not even consider having an F1...if somebody would give me one I would gladly give it to charity or something.
      It has not to do with snobbery or price... my fav blade is a 350 € damaskus puuko from Siberia...
      The F1 was designed as a pilot's survival / self-rescue blade... and I hate the form and texture of the handle, the sheath, the steel and the price!
      F1? no thanks!

    For knives who claim to be for real outdoor use, practical tests are much more useful than tabletop reviews.

    Good review! I own both of them, but S1 with Zytel sheath. My thoughts are really similar. Jääkäripuukko is good value for the price on my opinion too and S1 is nice, but overpriced.

    I'll stick with the SRK or a Trail Master. There are plenty of good knives so no need to have just one. I guess I use a Companion the most.

    Jag har oxå båda, men föredrar puukko 110 och 140 över s1 , anledningen är nog priset och att puukko känns mer som en arbetskniv för skogen ful och robust. bra video!

    The Puukko ist a tool, and it looks like one. With the Fällkniven we have inhibitions to use it like a tool, because it is so beautiful and expensive.
    Use the S1 and let it grow old with you.

    Sick of hearing about "budget" as a criteria.. either it can do the job or not!! And based on my experience the jaakaripuukko can match the fallkniven in every department. Tired of cost snobbery!

    To fix that rattle, heat the plastic insert with a hair dryer, and push it against the blade to mold it.

    • @DGOutdoorLife
      @DGOutdoorLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ther are many carbon steel chef knives no problem using them for food. Only clean them off and dry them 😉

    • @wayneholmes637
      @wayneholmes637 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DGOutdoorLife No, carbon steels react with some foods leaving behind a distinct metallic taste and/or discolouration. They are mostly not recommended or sometimes not allowed in professional kitchens (at least western ones) for good reason including hygiene reasons. I have some carbon steel Sabatiers and they were extremely annoying until a patina formed and even after I have to be careful to avoid acidic foods if I can. For other stuff where I need a stupidly sharp knife they are unbeaten by most stainless steels.

  • @elwha6025

    S1 is nice but the handle is way too thin. Bad move on the makers part. If they added some material they'd sell many more

    • @wayneholmes637
      @wayneholmes637 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find the handle of my F1 to be perfect. Thick enough to hold easily and thin enough to make carrying it easy and harder for others to see (a lot of people get really uneasy if they see a knife). If the handles were thicker I would probably not buy them.

    • @mofomartianp
      @mofomartianp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wayneholmes637 I second that, the F1 handle is the perfect thickness and height. They could adjust the swedge slightly so the finger guard was a better fit, but I still love the classic F1 handle.

  • @lymedog3176

    The difference between the Falkniven and the Terava puukko is that the puukko can take much more abuse than the Falkniven. Other than it being less rust resistant, the Terava can perform just as good in every aspect, practically unbreakable but between 1/3 and 1/2 the price!… if my life depended on it im going Puukko. If I need rust resistance at half the price and a more durable knife, then I go to APO s1 by survivor Lilly, without question! You could probably buy both the Puukko and APO s1 for the price of the Falkniven .
