    I think doing a “limit spend” or “lower spending” goal is better then “no spend” challenge

      I defintely think knowing your spending and just mindset type is important when deciding! For me I don't do well with any sort of restriction so a no spend challenge isn't sustainable for me but for some they like the challenge of it! I think whatever works best for you is important! And for me thats a low spend!!

    I would love to know how to keep groceries down as well because when I look at my expenses I’m spending around $1,000 a month in food without kids (mainly groceries, but includes eating out when we do) 😅 I live in the states but I’m sure you’ve experienced inflation as well. Thanks for sharing these monthly budgets! I love watching them bc I’m really trying to track things better myself and figure out what I want my payday routines to look like. Much love! 🤍

      My husband and I spend around $300-400 how in the world do you spend around 1000 w/o kids 😱

      This is a long winded reply, sorry in advance! We buy our meat in bulk twice a year from Costco and freeze it or we buy clearance meat that's about to expire. We only shop whatever is on sale for fruits/veggies (if it ain't on sale we don't buy it). We stock up on non-perishables on sale as well: pasta, sauces etc. We are also creatures of habit and eat the same breakfast/lunches most days.
      We make large servings of meals so I have lunches to eat all week- I'm a big leftover person.
      We try and just plan our meals really well. This week for example, we found a 10pack of sausages for $7 on sale at Walmart. One night we had sausages on the BBQ, then sausage pasta and then I had it as leftovers throughout the week. We try and make our meals/ingredients last multiple days. We also don't mind eating repeat meals.
      Matt and I also take turns buying groceries and I only share what I pay so our household grocery cost per month is probably close to $500-$600!

      @@lolabruce1 I honestly have no clue 😩 it’s terrible, I know. I’m in the season of trying to create a solid budget and this is one area that messes with me. When I looked back and realized I was like “holy sh*t”. I started a cash envelope for groceries this past week and only spent $160 for lunches/dinners. So I plan to keep that up and see how I do this next month.

      @@CarterSullivan Thank you for sharing your tips! I would love to start buying the discounted meats like that and freezing them to make multiple meals. We have a Costco opening up soon very close to us. I’m curious to see how I do in June with my grocery cash envelope system. My husband is on board too. I just told him “we have this much to spend and that’s it”. I feel like I’ve gotten better in other categories, like ride sharing to work to save gas and cutting back on unnecessary spending, but groceries is one area that I’ve been kind of stumped on.

    I really think it just depends on the company you work for. I’m in the US, and it’s scattered whether or not you get a bonus at your job. Some places you do and some places you don’t.

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  หลายเดือนก่อน

      in healthcare specifically? I know other industries do bonuses but have never heard of anyone in healthcare getting them but I know the US healthcare system is way different with money (I've seen those travel nurse rates) 🤣

    I just recently started tracking my spending and get a little stuck on how to categorize purchases sometimes. For example if I spend $100 at Walmart and some was groceries, some was makeup, a book, etc. How would you track that? Would you break that purchase up into the different categories?

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I always said it's really up to the individual! At the end of the day, I track my overall budgeted expenses not each category honestly. So if I set myself a goal to spend you know $1000 in a month it doesn't really matter what I bought at Walmart as long as I'm keeping the total expenses under 1000. But for some people they like to set goals per category I've just never really been strict on those because every month is different. So if I go to Walmart and spend $100 and some of its groceries in Somers not I usually just classify it as groceries but you can definitely go as far as to take the receipt and break it down!

    My fiancé and I spend between $50-100 each week on groceries by planning meals around what we have on hand (in the freezer, fridge and pantry).
    We’ve been doing this since the beginning of the pandemic and haven’t been impacted by the price hikes. We plan for takeout nights and snacks but have really honed in on spending in order to save.) It’s just the 2 of us living in rural ON, too.
    Recs: The Lazy Genius Kitchen (book), a meal planner or notebook, Flipp app)

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow that's awesome, good for you! We've seen major price surges here in the Ottawa area on groceries 😅 We also don't have any grocery stores that price match here which makes it abit more difficult to save on groceries! I miss being able to use the Flipp app lol. We roughly spend about $125/week and that feels like a comfortable number for us and our eating habits.
      We tend to also buy higher quality/more "treat" items because we prefer to eat at home vs eat out. For example, I'd rather spend $20-30 on steak at the store and cook it on the bbq than go out and spend $150 on dinner ya know? So we definitely do "splurge" in a few areas grocery shopping since we don't have many eating out options out here! ☺️
