I just came across this video after watching like 15 different ones and this is the one I like the best so far. Getting ready to try this recipe. Thank you!
in order to make sure it does not separate (having to shake the bottle to mix it again before each use) make sure to completely dissolve the powder ingredients BEFORE mixing in the boiled mix.
I used to make DIY home laundry detergent many years. I used to use the zote bar but it did not work out for me. I used it in the dry form which never seemed to dissolve all the way and would gather on to my clothes as well as my washing machine. I do use the bar of soap that he's using for removing stains from my clothing. I never did a liquid DIY with it maybe I should try it. I do use Tide OxiClean and regular Tide . And always use white vinegar as my fabric softener. I am also going to try a recipe that I seen on TH-cam. 1 cup or two cups of Down dishwashing liquid soap the one with the duck on it.🤔 1/2 cup of laundry baking soda.🤔 1/2 cup of regular baking soda.🤔 1/2 cup of Borax.🤔 1/3 cup of kosher salt.🤔 1/3 cup of OxiClean if you like to add it .🤔 You can always add or take out some of the ingredients it is up to the person.🤔 30 to 40 drops of pure essential oils.🤔 5 gallon bucket place all dry ingredients in the bucket and mix .🤔 Add 1 to 2 gallon hot water mix 🤔 Add the Down soap.🤔 Add the pure essential oil.🤔 You can add the pure essential oil to the white vinegar instead of the DIY Down mixture.🤔 Mix it all very good.🤔 All you need is 1 teaspoon or 1 tablespoon for each load of laundry.🤔 Use white vinegar as your fabric softener.🤔 You can add pure essential oil.🤔 Use 1/3 cup pur load of laundry.🤔 I use a wooly ball for my dryer with some essential oils on it. Yes I liked my clothing to have a strong scent of lavender pure essential oil.😂 But use whatever works for you.😃 What works for me might not work for you what works for him might not work for all of us or it will work for everyone. 🤔😃🤔😃🤔😃
Thank you so much for this video! But I laughed so hard when you said "I'm not going to turn it around" and then you flashed it and said "IT'S TIDE" 😂 Made my day!
Hello, I use this receipe. I put a few drops of essin oil into the mix. I put mine in milk jugs half full and than have ten gallons of it. I put 5\8 of a cup in washer. It costs less than one cent a load. I have soap for about a year! My clothes come out great and I save money!!! Thanks for ur video.
Easy to remember 1+1+1 = done .... If you ever done wanna mix all the gel just put a small bottle of laundry soap in it , sometimes i want the tide smell so i do that ... Hava Great Day Sir !!!

I have a glass cleaner recipe from Consumers Report and have used it for years. No more Windex for me. You can clean counter tops, sinks, chrome, just about anything. ......in a gallon jug pour 1 pint of isopropyl alcohol, 1 cup of ammonia (I use the sudsy one) 1 teaspoon of dish liquid and fill with water. This stuff is great! You can add half cup of vinegar if you'd like, but I don't.
ive always done soap and vinegar for house cleaning ever since the day i burned my nasal cavity with store bought cleaners. i'll have to look into this recipe. thanks!
My family used to use tide, but it got way too expensive, we use arm and hammer detergent, it is a lot cheaper, and it works really good, it also lasts a good while. We buy, i believe it is, 107 loads, which is somewhere around $7.00.
Eli g same here. I need to do the math to see if the arm and hammer is cheaper or if doing it myself would be cheaper. But arm and hammer is a great alternative.
thanks you i use the same 3 ingredients its a simple easy recipe that gets your colors clean i just leave it in a powder form, adding citric acid on whites will leave snow white clothes , just on whites not colors ! i use lemon juice when lemons are available or buy the concentrated bottle and use 1/2 cup on a medium load or full cup on a full load with whites only and no bleach needed ,
Do you still use this? Does it still work? I am seeing so many videos of people saying homemade is bad in the long run for smells in your clothes and for your washing machine etc etc. Help! Lol 😆

@@srlsolutionsself-reliancet3247 thank you for your response! I recently bought all the ingredients to make homemade laundry soap but have been hesitant to try it after finding the negative side. Just made this tonight. One question though. What size of the Fels Naptha did you use? Local stores only carried a 5 oz bar. Could not tell from zooming in on the video.
If we can ingest Borax (which is basically BORON) then we can wash with it. Would this work with diluting powdered laundry soap from the store; to stretch it more?

Wow thank you for watching! Yes I’m sure you can but I’d probably wait until it cools down. I’ve also seen where people put balls of wool into dryer with some oils on ball that add scent and get rid of static electricity

Sameera Sumar, this type of homemade detergent doesn't foam (suds), but it still cleans. I'm in the USA, and typically use a washing machine, but I have used this hand washing/wash board/stomping the laundry in the bath tub when my washers have broken down. It worked wonderfully and didn't irritate my hands/feet/skin like the laundry soaps at the store. I hope that helps.
I’m watching this after I bought a 5 gallon bucket for $34 threw my daughters fundraiser if I was u I would get lid with a pump for your 5 gallon bucket
thank you for the comment! the link says 1/2 cup but i also found others who use the cup. but i also make a whole 5 gallons and no the recommended 3 gallons so i decided to use the full cup. either way will work.
i'm not sure about that.... i guess best way to find out is try it.... hopefully there's no chemical reaction... so i'm not going to be responsible if something happens lol. all the recipes i've seen suggest using essential oils.
you are welcome.... wish i had more to contribute. i actually like the smell of the mixture.... pretty clean smelling... not a lot of overpowering smells.
Update i added 1 cup of borax, a half cup of oxi clean and a half cup of arm and hammer wash. Just to let you know i also added the purex crystals.. they added a nice smell.
it should with no problem hun. home made detergent is more concentrated then store bought.....no fillers. Good luck! I use this recipe and am shocked how well it cleans.....far more superior than store bought.
Yes ma'am it will. I washed my elderly mother's clothing, toddlers accidents, and a puppy accidents. All were fine. But I also use 1/4 cup of white distilled vinegar as my fabric softener. The clothes don't smell like vinegar when they come out of the dryer, either.
some people use oxyclean with the two powders. i like liquid personally because i've had powder not completely dissolve at times when my boys throw it in.
as far as how long it will last? that i have no idea. i wouldn't think it would go bad but i'm not a chemist if there are oxygen issues with reactions over time. mine usually lasts a couple months and i haven't had issues but if you are asking about long term storage i have no answer. i use it up and then make more i will say though.... for long term storage.... put the borax and washing soda in sealed bag. it gets hard when left in box because it soaks up moisture in air. mylar bag would be best.
The soap is intended for laundry for its stain removing and whitening properties.[4] The ingredients are sodium tallowate (animal fat), sodium cocoate, Citronella oil (fragrance), glycerin and optical brightener.
ive been using for 4 years. my mom has visited and loves it too. wants me to make it for her. it's a little gloopy... not total smooth like store bought but i assume they add chemicals to do that. kinda like they add bad things into grated cheese packets that dont allow the cheese to stick together. i shake my bottle every time before i pour into washer. in the video at the end i have a shot of me pouring into washer tray and you can see the consistency there. I can actually get is smoother by shaking harder but then it add some bubbles.
Thanks for the reply. I wonder if you were to strain it a couple of times until its gets smooth.. Or would it just get gloopy again..... Well, Great video.
i just saw your comment. i'm so sorry for missing it and not replying. I'm not sure what your question is. the recipe calls for 1 cup of washing soda, 1 cup of borax, a bar of fels naptha. mix ingredients into 5 gallons of water. let sit for 24 hours. mix the solution and use liquid straight in machine.... no watering down. I hope this answers your question.
as i said in video, you have to pick your moral ground. everything used in it is "all-natural" though some like borax can be dangerous at high levels. can't answer the question of how bad it is going into the sewage but it's definitley safer than tide and other commercial cleaners.
ginalex4life you can use demineralised water if you want to do this since micelles of bar soaps attaches to minerals of water which means you lose cleaning agent and this chemical reaction creates “soap scum” it’s just a rubbish. Bar soap need suds (=micelles) Otherwise you make liquid soap from scratch using cheap oil and KOH. You never try to make liquid soap from bar soap as these chemical form is completely different and bar soaps never been dissolved in water. (But liquid does) That’s why the consistency is like jelly (jelly part is soap scum and the rest soap which didn’t react with minerals) There are some chemicals in a commercial liquid soap but they are way better than this soap to clean laundry.
ginalex4life it’s just water but without minerals. You can buy it in a local supermarket I think. But anyway I would recommend making this soap. Bar soap never get dissolved in water.

i'm not sure about that.... i guess best way to find out is try it.... hopefully there's no chemical reaction... so i'm not going to be responsible if something happens lol.
all the recipes i've seen suggest using essential oils.
Thanks for your response.. you are one of the few that do respond.
you are welcome.... wish i had more to contribute. i actually like the smell of the mixture.... pretty clean smelling... not a lot of overpowering smells.
Update i added 1 cup of borax, a half cup of oxi clean and a half cup of arm and hammer wash. Just to let you know i also added the purex crystals.. they added a nice smell.
Can we do without Borax powder?
it wont get as clean. there are other recipes out there with no borax but add in other things but i don't think they works as well
Thank for your info.
As I m vEgetarian want to know does it involve animal killing
I don’t use zote soap.
Thank you for this video
thank you for watching!
I care for my elderly mother. Will this help me clean urine soaked clothes. Thank you for sharing.
it should with no problem hun. home made detergent is more concentrated then store bought.....no fillers. Good luck! I use this recipe and am shocked how well it cleans.....far more superior than store bought.
that i don't know but if it doesn't some people add oxyclean that might help.
Yes ma'am it will. I washed my elderly mother's clothing, toddlers accidents, and a puppy accidents. All were fine. But I also use 1/4 cup of white distilled vinegar as my fabric softener. The clothes don't smell like vinegar when they come out of the dryer, either.
How much of this do you use per load?
sorry for late reply..... i use the same amount as tide.... i fill up to the line in washer
Good video
Would it be easier to leave it as powder?
there are other recipes online for dry versions. this is not for dry. I've never liked using dry but that's one's preferences.
some people use oxyclean with the two powders. i like liquid personally because i've had powder not completely dissolve at times when my boys throw it in.
What is the durability of this homemade laundry detergent?
as far as how long it will last? that i have no idea. i wouldn't think it would go bad but i'm not a chemist if there are oxygen issues with reactions over time. mine usually lasts a couple months and i haven't had issues but if you are asking about long term storage i have no answer.
i use it up and then make more
i will say though.... for long term storage.... put the borax and washing soda in sealed bag. it gets hard when left in box because it soaks up moisture in air. mylar bag would be best.
Does zote have beef or any animal fat
The soap is intended for laundry for its stain removing and whitening properties.[4] The ingredients are sodium tallowate (animal fat), sodium cocoate, Citronella oil (fragrance), glycerin and optical brightener.
From internet on Zote

Squirrel! Lol 😂
:)
Great video
thank you!
Does this detergent have an experation day.? And thanks for share your recipe. 😉
i dont know.... its not an issue for me.... one batch makes about 6 regular size jugs.... thats 4 months for me.
good question for long term storage but i keep about 4 boxes and bars of ingredients which will last me years
I have found that this soap make my skin itch. I think it's the Napha soap bar or the borax..
C. U. You could try zote soap it's very cheap and you could make a batch with just that no borax
You could try decreasing amount of borax or feels naphtha.
have you added fragrances to any of your ingredient?
no i havent tried yet. i like the way it smells naturally though i thought about adding some.
SRL SOLutions: Self-Reliance Through Preparation how long have you been using this? And does it ever get that smooth constancy of the store stuff?
ive been using for 4 years. my mom has visited and loves it too. wants me to make it for her. it's a little gloopy... not total smooth like store bought but i assume they add chemicals to do that. kinda like they add bad things into grated cheese packets that dont allow the cheese to stick together. i shake my bottle every time before i pour into washer. in the video at the end i have a shot of me pouring into washer tray and you can see the consistency there. I can actually get is smoother by shaking harder but then it add some bubbles.
Thanks for the reply. I wonder if you were to strain it a couple of times until its gets smooth.. Or would it just get gloopy again..... Well, Great video.
it gets gloopy again.... but not terrible.
thank you
no.... thank you! :)
thanks for great video
Patsy Oconner you are very welcome!
Great video good details Can't. wait to try it.
thank you for watching! let me know how it goes
let me know how it went!
did you do half water half soap or just the soap as is
i just saw your comment. i'm so sorry for missing it and not replying. I'm not sure what your question is. the recipe calls for 1 cup of washing soda, 1 cup of borax, a bar of fels naptha. mix ingredients into 5 gallons of water. let sit for 24 hours. mix the solution and use liquid straight in machine.... no watering down. I hope this answers your question.
thanks so much cuz I seen lots of people do half and half water
Is it eco friendly though?
as i said in video, you have to pick your moral ground. everything used in it is "all-natural" though some like borax can be dangerous at high levels. can't answer the question of how bad it is going into the sewage but it's definitley safer than tide and other commercial cleaners.
can i use baking soda instead of borax
not sure about that but baking soda is more about odor removal and borax has always been used for cleaning. are you worried about the borax?
I can not get borax in market
you could try that but it's kinda duplication because of the washing soda. i'd search for recipes without borax....
I need a diy recipie with suds #help
ginalex4life you can use demineralised water if you want to do this since micelles of bar soaps attaches to minerals of water which means you lose cleaning agent and this chemical reaction creates “soap scum” it’s just a rubbish. Bar soap need suds (=micelles)
Otherwise you make liquid soap from scratch using cheap oil and KOH.
You never try to make liquid soap from bar soap as these chemical form is completely different and bar soaps never been dissolved in water. (But liquid does) That’s why the consistency is like jelly (jelly part is soap scum and the rest soap which didn’t react with minerals)
There are some chemicals in a commercial liquid soap but they are way better than this soap to clean laundry.
@@NaomiKawaiTube What is demineralise water?
ginalex4life it’s just water but without minerals. You can buy it in a local supermarket I think. But anyway I would recommend making this soap. Bar soap never get dissolved in water.
google dry detergent, some use the 2 powders and add oxyclean
waw! it is nice posted
thank you for watching my video! just saw your comment. sorry for taking so long to reply
