    1 zote bar
    2 cups borax
    2 cups washing soda
    60 drops essential oil
😁 I've made this twice and always have to come back to hunt the recipe because writing it down would make too much sense for me to do. 😂

I have one of those portable washing machines that you can put into an RV which also has a spinner in it. we only use cold water. with this work in my small washing machine and if so how much would I have to put in there a tablespoon level or could you give me a rough idea. ??? Thanks
If I only made half of this recipe could I take the other half make it up without the liquid and put it in a 2-gallon white bucket for next time...

Hi, if you only use cold water I wouldn't suggest it. From my experience the soap does not dissolve well in cold water.

We made this detergent and are very happy with results. The one thing we've found is it works best if we dissolve it in about 1\2 cup of water & then put it in the washer. Thanks!

i've been using this combination of ingredients for years, but I use a box of Zote--already shaved and don't use water to make a jell. The only reason for that is the weight of the finished product----had a fractured shoulder healing, so kept the combination dry until filling the washer with water. This cleans soooo well! Thanks for sharing.

This is great, i've been wanting to make my own detergent. The only thing is I just priced all the stuff and it's expensive here in Canada. It's 29 for borax, 26 for the arm and hammer, zote bar is $15.99 and just for the glass jar that is 1 gallon is over $51. This was on amazon in Canada, such a huge price difference between the two countries. It still might be worth it to make it, not only that knowing that it isn't full of nasty chemicals is worth it. Thanks so much for sharing the recipe :)

    • @LewisAcresHomestead
      @LewisAcresHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +7

Oh my gosh I had no idea things were that expensive for you guys! I thought our prices were expensive here in the US. It is better than store bought detergents but the Zote bar has some added fragrance. If you decide you want to make it and want to cut out more chemicals you could try the Castile soap instead of Zote. Thanks so much for watching!

I did try the dry version of this zote laundry detergent many years ago.🤔
Dry version did not work for me because it did not dissolve in my washing machine and gathered onto my clothing.😮
And because it did not fully dissolve it damaged my washing machine.😮
I have always used white vinegar with a few drops of lavender pure essential oil and a few drops of tea tree oil as my fabric softener.😍
About 3 tbsp to 6 tablespoon of white vinegar only don't overdo it with the vinegar.🤔
And I also use a wooly ball with a few drops of lavender essential oil and a few drops of tea tree oil instead of fabric sheets.😍
I have not used any DIY home recipe laundry detergent but this liquid one looks good. 😃
Except I probably would change the zote bar to Dawn dishwashing soap the blue one.😍
I think this liquid laundry detergent recipe would work more or less.🤔
Other people say that zote bars and other bars like it or for removing stains only . 😮
Many people say that they are not meant to be used to clean your entire load of laundry.😮
That zote bars are not detergents some people us Down dishwashing detergent instead in there recipes.
    😃🙂😃🙂😃🙂😃
When I used to do my homemade laundry and used zote I would unwrap them and leave them to dry for a few weeks until they became quite hard before grading them it made it much easier to grade them into smaller pieces.😮
I honestly prefer liquid laundry detergent I only use one tablespoon for small loads and 2 tablespoon for large only.😍
A little bit goes a long way.
And bubbles are not the reason your clothing gets clean.😮
    Never overload your washing machine.😮
Never load your dryer with too much laundry.😮
And absolutely never use any type of fabric softener or fabric beads or fabric sheets.😮
Because fabric softeners and fabric sheets leave a layer of chemicals on your machines which break them and are unhealthy they also leave a layer of chemicals on your clothing which goes against your skin.😮
So I think it is a good idea to start a small batch and try it out. 🤔
There are so many different types of recipes for DIY home laundry out there.😮
Go ahead and see which one is good for you. 😃
I am going to try a liquid DIY laundry detergent. 🤔
Two cups Down dishwashing liquid detergent.🤔
One cup of laundry baking soda.🤔
    One cup of borax.🤔
20 drops of lavender pure essential oil and 10 drops of tea tree pure essential oil.🤔
I am going to dissolve the Borax and laundry baking soda in some hot water maybe 4 cups to 6 cups 🤔
Before I add the Down dishwashing liquid detergent.🤔
I will add the pure essential oils.🤔
Mix it really good in a 5 gallon bucket.🤔
Then I will separate it into different gallon containers like my empty white vinegar bottles.🤔
And just like my regular name brand laundry detergent Tide I am going to use only one tablespoon to 2 tablespoons per load.😍

If I put it into 1liter bottles how much of your detergent to water do I need to get it to a pouring consistency?

    • @LewisAcresHomestead
      @LewisAcresHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

It is very expensive here as well. I would start out with half a cup of the detergent in hot water to get it to a liquid for 1-liter bottles. If it is too thick, dilute it with more water; if it is too thin, add more detergent.

I love the science behind this gel texture of recipe because powders don’t dissolve in our HE machine very well, even on HOT, we’ve been using a giant box of powdered Gain for quite awhile but I’ve been waiting to try to find the liquid on sale, no sales in months except tiny bottles when we usually get the GIANT liquid bottle at costco.
With this recipe is it possible to skip the bar soap because from my research bars of soap aren’t detergent, when I tried it twice and even used vinegar as a fabric softener, the clothes looked and smelled clean, but I felt a soapy film building up on creases of jeans.
Would it make it jelly like if I did all your steps but instead dumped like 3cups of gain into the gallon of hot water, dissolve and then like 1/2 c of borax and 1/2 of super washing soda?
or would it stay a liquid? What makes it a gel? 😐

Typically you would use this in place of a typical laundry detergent. Some people put their detergent in the washer and then add this homemade laundry soap to make it stronger. I wouldn't recommend mixing them when making this though.
