  • Comcast is quietly rolling out 2 gigabit symmetrical fiber optic service in some markets. To my surprise I'm in a region that offers it and I placed an order for installation. There are a number of hurdles involved in actually getting service to my house but if all goes well next week the installation will move forward. Stay tuned! Looking for houses in the greater Sf area one of my key criteria is high speed internet, but no matter what address I check they never give an option for anything above the 1000/35mbits cable and I really want the 2000/2000 fibre. There's little information where it is available.

      This is secret enough that Comcast Employees don't know about it. I gave up trying to order this last year after speaking to more than a dozen people at Comcast who have no idea what this is. Everybody at Comcast seems to think "Gigabit" and "Gigabit Pro" is the same thing. Every Comcast employee that comments on a blog or support site where people ask for Gigabit Pro points people to their Gigabit site. It's not the same thing. I already have Gigabit, I want Pro.

      @@nathanbraun2067 It wasn't supposed to be. Comcast did door-to-door marketing in my area (which is just houses on a normal residential street) for Gig Pro. They gave me a pamphlet and the guy spent time to tell me about it, then when to the next house on the street. If it's business now, it certainly wasn't in the beginning.

    Unless they provide you the correct modem you will never see that speed. Signed up for the Gigabit Internet and they sent me the XB6 Modem and never got over 500 Meg Down so only getting half of what they say you will get and that is with direct cable connection and Internet Pipe only.

    They don’t offer this in my area but say they if they did? I currently have a nighthawk cm1200 modem with orbi WiFi 6 rbk852 router and a few cat8 cables to the few hard wired systems in my house. Would I need anything else to take advantage of the 2 gig speeds if they offered it I’m my area. Because I’ve learned you can pay for certain speed internet but if the equipment can’t handle it your not gona get what your paying for.

    • @LonSeidman
      @LonSeidman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'd probably need a different router - those Orbi's only have gigabit ethernet so you'll be limited to 1 gig going in.

    if comvast dont do it, ATT and others will take their business in another 2 years. ATT gigabit fiber is in our neighborhood laying fibers and everyone in that area has comcast connections.

      Never say never, people used to think 25mb was blazing fast internet and it was reserved for enterprises. Also as Deon pointed out it is for the symmetric speeds and reliability that stems from Fiber. Specifically the fact that it is your own dedicated connection. You are not sharing the bandwidth with anyone

      Comcast 1 gig speed is great. What’s not great is the equipment they provide/rent to you. You need to buy your own modem router to actually achieve the speeds.

      @@vhsparkinc.5931 yea and at least with Comcast you can buy your own modem and router and take the rental fees away and endless something changes you can’t do that with att. I bought the nighthawk cm1200 modem with orbi WiFi 6 rbk852 router and OOO boy did it do a much better job of distribution my internet around the house without the loss the speeds not to mention the rang is ridiculous. Also I might add Comcast also offer gigabyte pro speeds @ 2.5 gigs 🤤 which att does not. This is not in all area’s but still you get the point.
