Fun fact hes not wearing a shirt. He had that tattooed on to save time and money
that's exactly what I was wondering about :D
did he buy like 15 shirts at once? or he keeps ordering one after a certain time? or does he have just the one maybe? We need to know! :D
He still has trouble picking out the right pair

GaminginHDmax dude I loved every part of Control. The exploration, combat, characters, story and atmosphere. It’s the only game I’ve ever cared about getting a platinum trophy for because I wanted an excuse to spend more time playing it after I beat it

GUYS, DON'T FORGET TO TELL THE ESRB THAT NBA2K GAMES ARE PROMOTING GAMBLING TO KIDS!!!
The ESRB are run by games companies.
They have already defended the gambling for 3 year olds.
But they already know :)
Lol yeah. "It's not gambling because it's not teaching people how to gamble in a casino" Lol wtf are you talking about!? It's teaching them how to use a slot machine which is a game associated with gambling.
It's not "gambling", its "surprise math with complimentary visuals designed to educate kids on mathematical odds".
I actually like that some of the side missions are more interesting than the main quest. I feel like it adds depth to the world, shit is so crazy inside the Bureau the best boss is inside a fridge.

@Top Dog I disagree

@Top Dog It may not be as over the top or creative as a regular Angry Review, but he even said it was due to time constraints and being sick.
I agree with a title change due the different format, but I still think that Joe goes above and beyond compared to most video game reviews.

Remedy makes decent games. Their engine is whats most impressive to me with the top tier lighting, volumetric fog, reflections, shadows, ambient occlusion, the crazy effects, the physics, etc.) just a top notch engine.
Blotted
I just picked this up on PS4, and agreed. It's absolutely impressive what they accomplished. The sheer amount of destruction and effects going on before the framerate dips at all is very surprising. And this is on a base, launch console.
I think this game was more a showcase of the engine than anything else. But what an engine tho.

That wasn't the ending of the game. There is more after that fake credit role.
They know. It's pretty clear that they played the real ending, but they didn't want to spoil it.
No they didint know becaus angry joen say that end sucks so no
@@lucasuusimaki7429 I suggest you to pay more attention when you look at a video. First, they clearly say that the ending get better after a stop. Second, and more importantly, they talk about the fact that you can continue to play the game after the ending and you can do all the secondary missions, therefore they must have gone through the ending after the credits to know that. Third, there is actual footage (just a glimpse) of the final mission in the video.
If they would had stop playing before the true ending their reaction would have been much worse. The ending sucks, yes, the one after the credits, because there are too much loose ends. Some people defend this ending and say that this is about liking the way the story is narrated, reading through documents. But no, there are things that simply are not told, anywhere. There is no final arc for some very interesting characters like Pope and Marshall. There are questions we are supposed to care at the beginning of the story, like about the ambiguous morality of the FBC, and they are not properly addressed.
@@albertorepetto2909 because the story is not self-contained. Remedy confirm that they're going to make DLC to build on the story before the game was even be released. I think they're saving some of those loose ends for the DLC
@@whitbaez1755 And that is surely reasonable and a good point in this conversation. Still, from the perspective of someone that plays, or review, the game, it's hard to not consider this ending somewhat incomplete when you play for the first time.

Some notes:
- The backtracking is helped a lot by a lot of fast travel points, but they're sometimes hidden.
- If you're Finnish, the inside humour immediately increased the score by 1. Ahti is amazing, cursing and using silly Finnish idioms badly translated, and all the music is from Finnish bands. And I love the mystery behind him: Is he part of the Oldest House, is he from the Board, is he an Old God, or a person modified by and Object of Power... Also the Janitor outfit you get from his quest is the best set of clothes.

When you brought up FEAR it really hit home... the new games look beautiful and "next gen," but often they're "missing something," inferior in many ways to older games.
I hope someday we get a fear 1 remaster I love that game so much definitely top 10 shooters
I’m on the last leg of the game right now....
The stuff I love-
*The story. It’s so weird and even though complex at times, in reading the notes much of it is explained.
*The combat system. The firearms were a pleasure to use....no sway and could pretty much aim blindfolded. The upgraded abilities allowing you to diversify the combat...such as hurling missiles back at enemies.
* Unlocking new abilities. When I unlocked the levitate ability I just went around exploring, trying to find unreachable places. This was so much fun!
*The puzzles. I’m a massive fan of puzzles, especially environmental ones. These puzzles were just right, not too easy, not too hard.
*The side mission boss battles. They were so much fun and interesting to look at. Like Angry Joe said....why save these amazing boss battles only for the side missions?
*The Alan Wake Easter eggs. I loved this. It made me feel how great it would be to have a remake of the original game, released on multiple platforms....then a game that tied together both Alan Wake and Control. This would be epic!
The stuff I hated-
*The garden variety enemies and main mission bosses. Their design is so bland. You’d think a game that has been built with such imagination would have better enemy designs.....TEW games are a great example of intriguing enemy designs. Also, I wasn’t a fan of being set upon every two minutes by yet more of these run of the mill monsters. It really broke the immersion.
*The game is so janky. On a regular PS4 I couldn’t pause without severe frame rate drop. It also crashed a couple of times.
*The lighting. Maybe an unpopular opinion.....but I hated the lighting in this game. No amount of adjusted brightness on the PS4 or the TV would fix it. It was either too dark, or too bright....which ties into the...
*Ultra red colour scheme representing Hiss. The game is a cakewalk until you have to navigate through a level or boss battle where it’s nothing but police siren red. It was ultra headache inducing and disorientating. I’m sure Hiss could have been represented without this.
Anyway.....that’s my two cents. Overall a great game, but flawed. I’m still looking forward to playing the DLC.
I personally love Metroidvania-like titles. Makes the game world that more interesting when you don't just go through an area once. It feels like a real world.
I love OJ's acting skills. They're half-good half-bad to the point it really is fun to watch him. Please make more dumb skits like these, I laugh like an idiot every time

Hey Joe -- thanks for taking the time to make a review despite not feeling well. This is a great game, and I think it deserves praise for its originality and inventiveness, and I appreciate you giving it exposure on a large platform!
I do want to offer a little constructive criticism, however, and say that I feel that this format of review is honestly -- in my opinion -- far less engaging or interesting than your usual format. It was still informative, but I feel like the formula for your typical angry reviews is excellent, so it's a shame when life throws you a curveball and you're forced to put out a review that doesn't follow that format. The typical Angry Review formula, as I see it, is as follows:
* you do an intro skit that typically highlights an aspect(s) of the game (be it gameplay, progression, storytelling, etc...) that help(s) define the game as a whole (even if the skit is essentially meme-ing the game, your intros are always fun/interesting, and they help set your reviews apart from the offerings of other reviewers!), giving the player an initial idea of what kind of experience you had, preparing the viewer for what's to come
* you talk about the pros and cons of all relevant individual aspects of the game, showing clips that illustrate your point each specific element as you highlight it, and then give your opinion on how each individual element adds to or detracts from the overall experience
* after you've touched on the elements you deem relevant, you start your conclusion by giving the game a final "score" followed by a quick recap of your feelings on the various gameplay and story elements to help the viewer understand how you determined that score
* and finally, you give your recommendation (or NON-recommendation)
The above is a super accessible, easily digestible way to get a feel for _what_ a game is, as well as an idea of the game's overall level of quality to help inform the viewer as to whether or not they'd be getting good value for their money (be it derived from fun gameplay, a memorable story, etc...) if they choose to buy it, and the way you guys weave funny moments into your reviews to highlight both good _and_ bad aspects of the game under review is just mega enjoyable.
Bottom-line: It's a sad day when you're sick during review time, because even though reviews like _this_ one still do the job, they _really_ make the viewer appreciate just how much love and care you put into your _normal_ reviews. This channel will always be where I come for reviews -- you've earned that loyalty over the years many, many times over -- and I hope that you get well soon =)
Nobody is gonna read this novel of a comment.🤦♂️🤷♂️
@@juangarcia2632 -- Juan Garcia took the time to comment on it though. 😉
Completely agree. Definetely prefer the old style of angry reviews where everything is already thought out and scripted - as Joe is able to get his points across easier and more directly, and it's also a lot funnier. The panel discussion makes it a lot more tame and bland in my opinion.
@@welcome2pominville29 agreed, but don't get me wrong -- I'm not trying to say Joe doesn't still give us those when he can (Red Dead Redemption 2 and uh... Anthem... immediately come to mind). I get that he was sick for this one and didn't feel well enough to put in the same kind of time he puts in with the more in-depth, classic review format. For whatever reason though, this one really stuck out to me in not necessarily a _bad_ way, but certainly an _obvious_ one -- this format just isn't the same when it comes to the bread-and-butter Angry Reviews, know what I mean?
I love what they're doing with the News show that Alex is sort of "hosting" with Joe and either OJ or Del in the other two seats. I really dig what Alex brings to the table in that role, because -- with all due respect to Joe -- I think Alex is a little better spoken, and that lends itself well to a news segment where you're trying to learn about some of the things happening in the industry as opposed to trying to convey an opinion about a game's buy-worthiness, know what I mean?
Joe's got a good dynamic going on his channel right now, as that news segment -- in my opinion, at least -- has a chance to be the channel's second "killer app," so to speak. I just know that it was the first classic Angry Review I ever saw that earned my subscription, and it was the many Angry Reviews (and some Angry Rants, hahaha) that came afterward that earned my loyalty, and while I'm really enjoying some of the newer stuff that Joe's been experimenting with (and I'm glad that other people have recognized how good that stuff is, too) I 100% know that he knows where his bread is buttered, and I don't think we'll be seeing any major long-term changes to a winning formula any time soon.
Bottom-line: People get sick, and when they're sick they feel like shit, and when they feel like shit it's _hard_ to get the motivation to meet their usual performance standards, because their _health_ is not at _its_ usual standard, know what I mean? Looking forward to many, many more memorable Angry Reviews from these men.
Hes being lazy, hes done this before with some other lame excuse.
Feel better joe
What the...
Just finished this game, honestly one of the best games I've ever played. Straight 8/10 for me. I personally thought the end was decent and interesting, though I agree needed a bit more, especially in the earlier acts as well. I need more of this game is basically what I'm saying lol
Playtime to finish ? 10 hours?
@@AverageJoe1006 10 hours to power through the basic storyline. There's a ton of interesting side play and the story is more fun if you don't rush through it. I'd say there's a good 20+ hours of gameplay overall.
Bart Massey thanx you for your comment, i didnt finished the game i was close to it, was in a quest that made me jump pilars and I died every time lol. The save points ruined the game for me. But the time that i played i had 90% fun. 10% irritating map and save points
@@AverageJoe1006 I just finished the game and the save points were the worst part I don't care if a game is challenging, in fact I didn't find control particularly hard but having to do the same shit every-time I died got more tedious than anything.
@@AverageJoe1006 I didn't finsih the game either, but to make things worse it was because I didn't enjoy 90% of the game ... The story seemed utterly dumb (granted, I'm a rationalist ... so most supernatural stuff seems silly and attempts to force some creepy suspense don't really work for me, I just go "meh, cute"), the characters were written without any depth or consistency (nobody really had some fleshed out build-up of their motivations, most actions of the characters seemed therefore random and bizarre), their actual dialogues were even worse and they were even too lazy to properly lipsync those bad dialogues ...
Some graphics effects were nice, but the general artwork seemed lazy and repetitive, I didn't even care to explore much since everything looked the same and reminded me a 2000 game with dull textures, reused assets and a level design as unimaginative as it could get - buuuut with RTX. It honestly looked like they spend all their money for development on SFX programming while not having nearly enough or good enough level designers, 2D-artists and writers.
Actually the best part was really the combat ... but only because the rest of the game was such a disappointment. It still felt very focussed on console gameplay, thus it was rather clunky, repetitive and not very dynamic.
So in short: I didn't bother with this bad game (glad I got it for free with my second RTX card) ... I'd say if you want to "throw stuff" but still have a good game around it - reinstall Half-Life 2. It doesn't even really look worse.
Its neat seeing Remedy making more consistently original games instead if sequels
I kind of agree, but I still want Alan Wake 2 though
Kaunte there’s a sequel technically it’s called Alan wakes American nightmare only on Xbox store
This is a sequel to Alan Wake, technically. Alan Wake exists in the universe, he and the events of that game are the subject of multiple files you find around the game.
@@TheDantedarkdemon201 I know, but it's not a real sequel. It's more of a spin off.
@@Kaunte I know you're comment wasn't directed to me, but it just as well could have been. And you'd be right. It isn't a continuation of the story, not directly. It's not really any different from folks in Daredevil briefly talking about alien hell raining down from the sky. It doesn't add anything substantive, it's just a nod.
I like putting really good / better content in the side quests. I want people who explore and really dive into the game to have a better experience than people who rush trhough it ignoring everything except the main missions.
Yeah I don't really see how good side missions are a negative
exactly... side missions allow the devs ta go n do crazy things that dont fit in the main story... I dont see how thats a negative its still all part of the same game...
He is not saying that the side missions are a negative, he loves them, it's that the main missions are lame in comparison and he would have appreciated good main AND side missions.
Onauc C I agree it’s what makes games like Mass Effect, Skyrim, The Witcher, etc. great games but it could go either way for someone I guess
It's not a good idea to make the main game looks lame in comparison to the side content.
You can actually find an internal document explaining the "Threshold kids" show :)
"We don't know what the Threshold Kids are for"
Literally a note in the game tells them what the Threshold Kids are for
Woah an actual Angry Review?! Yayyy!!
Wasn't it always the Angry review that's he's main content.
Not really though.
@@TheTrueRandomGamer no its not an angry reveiw its bullshit phonned in like the last several its getting to be bullshit and hes going to start to lose subs
@@jaybabe7767 Do you not understand how long they take to make. And did u not hear him, he apologised for this format and said Blair Witch will have a proper angry review. I would rather have this format than nothing at all.
Not really, he made a 2 min skit and then just did the lazy discussion video.
As long as you got the parodies, i dont mind this type of format. Just as good for me. Maybe do proper angry reviews for big games like borderlands 3 you'll probably get more views.
TELEKINESIS--ya had me at "TELEKINESIS". I had a BLAST w/ this in the much too short Force Unleashed Games, too.
I started watching Fringe because of Control because from waht I remember back when it aired it felt like the game took some inspiration from the show. And now, having watched 2 whole seasons, it definetly inspired control in so many ways. It`s fantastic
Tony Akawari
Fringe was an amazing show.
@@Dreadnott117 A white tulip for you.
Seeing the Thumbnail:yes yes yes YES!
Seeing the Format:no no no no!
Anyway get well soon Joe.
Yeah not a fan of this format either
Needs a separate title
agreed, calling it "angry discussion" would fix this... but also reduce the viewcount :/ so I get why he's doing this
Sit down reviews, yayy!
I don't mind this format
Ahhh, the old bait and switch. It's not really an Angry review if the format isn't the same tut tut!
Bad format... i like hearing othrr but do it in a post review where u speak with them not on them... etc.. but this is not joe.. joe do some sports. Get better
Therefore disliked.
Basically this whole review: "Joe did you just hit me in the face with A CARDBOARD BOX!?!?!?"
Fun stuff.
Love that you mentioned the A.I. in F.E.A.R. That game is still the golden standard fourteen years later.
Facts
Is there any other game that has the level of AI like F.E.A.R.?
@@Bloodhurl67 , Not exactly what you're looking for, but Half-Life 2, for its time, had really good AI (when it wasn't occasionally glitching). The Combines were very dynamic, would pull different maneuvers depending on what the player did, some sought cover when being shot at, they'd dive away from grenades, going for either cover or distance depending on what was the more likely survival option. Plus they, and the headcrabs and their variants, were also good at flanking and ambushing the player.
Their reactive scripts are still more complex than a LOT of modern games are, even if they didn't always pull off the moves perfectly with occasional pathing issues or trigger confusion.
This game really reminded me of the games Second Sight and Psyops from 2004, does anyone remember those classic games?
Yea, second sight was Brilliant
Oh yeah, I played the shit out of psyops
I remember psyops the boss characters used to scare the shit out of me when I was younger same goes for the invisible shrimp things
psi ops on ps2 destroys Control.
I remember! And I loved both games for their fun mechanics! Second Sight also had an interesting plot and awesome soundtrack. But boss characters in Psy-Ops were more fun to fight.
Joe MUST know about SCP! The Foundation will not stand for this!
Mobile Task Force unit Alpha-01 ‘Red Right Hand’ is en route.
Joe I don’t know if you guys remember the game Psy Ops, but this game gives me a pretty strong feel of that game. Lol
Fun fact: Alan Wake actually exists in the control universe
of course he do -- he got a complete dlc ^^
@N7 K Yeah if you like Alan Wake you will like the DLC for sure.
@Hexzilian Not the Foundation, the other one. It is based entirely on Alan Wake.
So does Quantum Break.
@@cmdr_kai2492 Yeah apparently theyre AWE's by controls definition lol.
Damn I was just watching ur mafia 3 review then got the notification about this 😂😂
Joe Clay? Ya i know about him
Soysause767 he’s a man not a god
DAT LOOK GOOD
Fascinating.
Wow man I was watching mafia 3 review too!
Once again the SCP influence is lost on the reviewers, which is a shame because Control is SO much like SCP and deserves some love.
The SCP influence is interesting, however, it does not really speak for the quality of the game, though some of the clearer references are entertaining if you know (like the fridge)
Del mentioned it in the beginning, but never elaborated on that :(
Михаил Дмитриев Well yeah Del does but Joe and O. Joe are ignorant to the wonders of the foundation and that makes me sad.
Maybe Control needed a few more enemy types based on SCPs. A creature like SCP-939 "With Many Voices" would be pretty cool.
More like The Lost Room than SCP, but I get that.
13:40 "Oh, that’s how you’re supposed to do it!"
Uh no, I am pretty sure you’re supposed to levitate to that spot.
I love the Threshold Kids.
Yes, Joe, someone at the Bureau came up with the idea to try and explain supernatural stuff to children while also ease the public into some of the less classified stuff they're researching. Because, with every passing hour of research they find out more, and so the supernatural becomes more and more natural. People need to know about it or they'll find out themselves sooner or later. That could get very ... "inconvenient".
In the long run, the FBC hopes to increase public acceptance, which would also help funding along.
Curiously, though, the show is obviously made by socially awkward scientists with absolutely no expertise on children. That's probably why it's a bit creepy and weirds everyone out.
It's a Remedy game... Not a 505 game... They're just the publisher.
Can dell be kind and post a link where we can buy a shirt like OJ is wearing?
I NEED ANSWERS NOW GODDAMIT
That shirt looks like something a furry would wear, and considering Del's history of that very thing...no thanks.
@@darthbane2669 you depilate yourself instead

@@antonkirilenko3116 ya'know I never played half life 2.
@@anonymousbiscuit9114 you should.
@@antonkirilenko3116 aaaa yes. Will put that on my list. I don't have a pc, so I can't play the first though
This game was great for me. There's so much interesting lore. Nothing is as it seems. A document you read in the first hour or so has a hidden meaning/exposition once you understand more thru story exposition and further exploration.
Internal monologing is just a form of story telling so that the viewer can better understand the MCs thought process. There's also Polaris. If you know what Polaris is, you'd know why it's needed.
There's a lot to enjoy in the game and the quality of your experience suffers if you rush the story and skip thru the collectables.
That said, fetch quests are actually fine. It pushes you to a new location to get something. There is so much to see and learn once you get there. Don't be too quick to return.
Personally an 8 out of 10 for me. Action and Shooter fans who arent too big on lore and story wouldnt enjoy this as much.
Nobody: I want a sequel to that Psi-Ops game.
Publishers: Here's Control!
Cold: ...With my Minnnnnd, with my MI -I - iii-I-iii-Ind.
Most underrated comment on this channel
Thankyou loved psiops the mind gate conspiracy which was based of remote viewing call the the stargate program it actually worked but wasnt reliable so it was shut down
Oj: (throws box at joes head right in front of joe)
Joe: “did you just throw a box at my head?”
The main character has such a weird looking head
In classic games, some of the best parts of the game are intentionally left off to the side/easter eggs placed along the way to keep people coming back to the game. I'm sure those who played games pre-2000 you remember at least one of your friends telling you about a secret in a game they found which you both owned. It made you look for it/attempt it. My first one was the *Hadoken in Mega Man X.* You needed to collect all items, have all primary weapons, and make it to the end of the level with full health. Good god was that a tough one to get.
Even in "mainstream games". Think of 1st party SNES games like Star Fox where there are several secret warps that lead to 3 separate endings (4 if you are persistent) In Super Metroid Samus has special abilities not spelled out during normal gameplay, but cryptically during the intro screen before pressing start that shows _most_ of the abilities she _can_ perform. Just staring at the screen from my Wal-Mart sold me on that game. 'Those are some sweet abilities, but what do I need to do in order to use them?' Were my internal monologue thoughts. ;) But seriously, 1st Party Games like that will *_never_* _be made again._ :(
The side-missions are some of the best content into the game (as they are in many JRPGs, otherwise why even bother looking for the secret stuff).
And that's also the content that resembles the SCP the most, which is a collective writing project about a secret gov organization that collects and contains bizzare creatures and objects to study them, and people online collaborate to write the entries for those supernatural creatures and objects which are codenamed for example SCP 145.
Also there are two expansion packs planned with more enemies, story and stuff to do.
*Uses SCP 145 instead of the OG, SCP 173*
Disgusting
Hope you do more
We miss your angry reviews with the angry crew.
I feel like companies put AI to low on their priorities a-lot of the time. Just feel like games are to worried about being pretty.
you can find one document i dont remember where which explain "the thresshold kids cartoon", it was designed for the kids in the bureal to entertain them and to make them follow the rules of the bureal more easily, they had little budget on that so they improvise.
ohh, the navigation in the map was pain specially maintance, but i believe it was their intention, the teleportation helps a lot in that regard.
