His older brother Randy was stationed with me at NAS Chase Field in Beeville, Texas. Probably in 67 or 68 and Randy was already convinced at that time that his baby brother would be a star someday.
R. .Moore : Was Randy married to a woman named Linda? If so she was one of my daughter's teachers. I was raised in Elliott County, but my kids and I moved to Sandy Hook where Keith's mom Faye lived. Truthfully I had never heard of Keith Whitley until I seen him on Hew Haw where he was saluting his hometown of Sandy Hook, Ky. When I was in grade school I would see his brother Dwight's wife Flo and their 2 boys. All I knew was Dwight's mother-in-law was our head cook. In the video where he is smiling with sunglasses on the woman next to him is his mom Faye. She came to my dad's viewing when he passed away. I also lived up the road right beside the Keith Whitley Blvd sign. The sign was stolen once too.

A shop up there was going to do some of the metal work tubbing it out for big tires and wheels. His mom and my mom were both named Faye, that was a bond we treasured... (great name for a mom)

I have a friend, he is one of 7. Both of his parents were alcoholics. He, along with all of his siblings are either alcoholics/ drug users/ both. He has already lost his older brother to alcohol. I am waiting to hear about him. If he gets "too sober" he is shaking really bad and sick. He will go weeks without showering. He barely eats. No matter how hard you try, you cannot help anyone that does not want to be helped.
I agree. But so much controversy exists from pathologist who performed autopsy. Makes it hard to say if there wasn’t another explanation. The pathologist had apparently misrepresented other causes of death. Guess we’ll never know. Gone much too soon either way.

Keith Whitley was not only the greatest country music singer but I would put him with the likes of Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. I did security for a country music fest and did a short personal security detail for Keith Whitley. He was a very nice man and treated us with respect right up until he got back on his bus. I was very saddened to hear the he died later that year.

MY NEXT FAVORITE COUNTRY MUSICIAN. it is sad as hell that addiction took him from so soon. i watched a biography on him he was so desperate for a drink he drink anything from shampoo to window cleaner. his wife had to handcuff him to keep him fro drinking, now that is freaking sad as hell you can trust your own hubby at night that you have to do such thing. and i thought he was found dead after drinking coffee that morning of his death and had cocaine in his system.according to lorrie and the biography on him (TNN channel).

The story I heard was that he had had an affair while Lori was on tour, and instead of telling her what happened, he punished himself by drinking himself into oblivion--his last drink being anti-freeze. Is it true? I don't know. He left behind people who loved him because he fell into the depths of despair. Sad. So sad. Hope he found peace on the other side.
