      Wow. I honestly came to the video and my thoughts were 'it's probably very gimmicky and bad' but I need up very impressed with the final product.
      Since I value portability a lot, I was about to get the surface go. But many reviews have stated that the decide is simply underpowered. So I think I will get this one instead.
      The deciding factor will be either or not the keyboard is very comfortable to type into it for long sets. Otherwise I'm totally sold.

    I've had the original Windows version since launch and it still gets used everyday. This updated version looks like they literally addressed every single complaint I have with the original. There's a huge benefit to that e-ink keyboard area as well, the keyboard can be changed at will. Literally any layout can be displayed and used as input. I'll definitely be getting Gen II. It's about time we finally see some innovation in the laptop space.

  • @ChrisHoopes
    @ChrisHoopes 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I own the first generation versions (both an Android and a Windows version) and is still my preferred device for on-the-go. The Android version hasn't had an update since August 2017, but still runs flawlessly. The Windows version still gets updates (albeit from Microsoft). It's a little sluggish, but I got used to the keyboard. What I didn't like about the Windows version was attempting to take notes as the LCD screen had to be on to use the notepad (it can be off on the Android version). Since the new one doesn't use paper, it seems like this won't be an issue with the eInk screen.
    The other thing that the originals didn't have was being able to use the touch-sensitive stylus on the LCD screen (you could turn on Any Pen, but that's not the same thing). I'm used to drawing using the bottom screen, so that seems like it would still work, but would be better in the stylus worked on both surfaces. I'm keeping an eye on this one and want to see more reviews before spending double the money.

    the new yoga book looks amazing and the new more simple features fix alot of the simple problems with the original yoga book (which i`ve had for a year and a half and i am using to type this comment).
    some of the best features in my opinion is the second charging port , the e reader version and the keyboard updates. The second charging port is amazing as it can be quite annoying and fiddly when you want to use it as specifficly a tablet (i have the android version) as you have to change the postion to use it when charging. The figiting nature of the original yoga book is saved by how well the auto rotation in the tablet mode works .
    The keyboard seems to have had a big update with the more 3D appearace but its the better feedback which makes it better. When using the original yoga book it has this loud almost violent vibration feedback when ever the halo keyboard is used as well as having the problem of when you type most of the time the tablet google keyboard comes up as well ,covering up a third of your screen.Although you can change these in the settings, the halo keyboard doesn`t allow for any room to budge as it is either on or off when it comes to feed back.And the google keyboard can be turned off so that it doesn`t interfear when using the halo keyboard , however it does loose it`s auto prediction and correction meaning it will no longer correct spelling mistakes or put in punctuation while using the halo key board.So these changes i think would massively change how comfortable the new yoga book would feel on first use ,plus the option of hiding away the mouse is a extremly useful feature as it is so rarely used when you can use the pen or the touch screen to control the tablet.
    lastly, the new e-reader function just looks beutiful on the tablet when joined with the fact you can draw on it too while seeing the picture as if it was on paper. The low and dull hue for the lighting on the keyboard has always made is unobtrusive while being visable with little glare, making it absolutly beautiful for to use as almost a second screen for the e-reader.When combing this with the fact that you can now also choose which screen you want drawings and doodles for it makes it possible to multitask while drawing (like watching youtube or googling a picture of what you want to draw). I find the greatist part of the second drawing screen is that is now feels more like you are using paper and when this is combined with the thinner stylish ,you are going to have this much more seemless transition when switching to drawing on a tablet for the first time.Instead then having to get used to not looking where your hands are when drawing or being immeditaly throung into the deep end of features while geting used to the basic functions, you can immeditly test out the features and slowly adjust to using a tablet for drawing. In my opinion this features will make it more comfortable to draw as well as just casually read in any light sorce without being too obtrusive.
    I am comparing this to the original yoga book and yes it does sound like the original has faults to it ,but this is just comparing it to the new and improved one which tackles all of the inconvinces of the original no matter how small they might be. As amazing as the new one might be, the orignal is a great piece of technology from great tracking software with a stlyist , ahead of time halo keyboard to it`s always smooth running,great design and great compatibilty with andriod (which is the one i have).Even the the annoyances i have had with the original yoga book can be fixed if you spend some time in the settings, but what i`m saying is the original is a great piece of tech but the new one is once again ahead of the curve and cunning brilliant.

    Sad part is some people see innovations like this and still think apple is not a total waste of money.

    • @incorrectname9294
      @incorrectname9294 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Apple is not a total waste of money. Apple has nailed the software when it comes to the Tablet (more like iPad) market. I am a Graphic designer and Architect, and the iPad Pro is a deal breaker, its the best tablet in the market, and even the new 2018 iPad is pretty amazing. You're gonna need a Apple pencil to take full advantage of it and people say "the pencil is such a waste of money, like 100 dollars, seriously?!" but then the Google Pixel Pen is also 100 dollars and the surface pen is 100 dollars too. And out of all of them, then Apple Pencil is the best, and has little latency, like none, and promotion is amazing, and its just the best design. And the other thing, you can take all the work you do on your iPad and get it all on your Mac. And the Mac is perfect for most designers, engineers, workers, and editors, film makers and the lot. And yeah Apple is a little pricey but you can get them a lot cheaper on Ebay and Amazon for the same deal. And also iPhones. being able to connect seamlessly through all devices, and ecosystems and get my iMessages on my iPad is just the best thing. I also had the original Yoga book, and it was kinda fantastic, but the keyboard wasn't really my thing and the pen had quite a bit of latency. I loved the design but it wasn't practical at all. I kinda mainly had it for a fashion statement because it was beautifully built and thin and just felt like a thing to show off. being a tablet running android or Windows, was pretty bad. and being a laptop which ran windows was okay but especially in school, essay's and assignments, you need a keyboard. And most of mine i did on my iPad pro, i only got the iPad, the Pencil, and the smart keyboard + case, for just about 500 dollars, and it definitely wasnt a waste of money and 2 years running, its great, along with my mac and iPhone. You just need a little perspective.

    • @daviddoozie
      @daviddoozie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@incorrectname9294 you've said a lot and you make perfect sense. However I was referring to innovation. In the tablet space, Microsoft brought in the surface which basically allowed users to not miss using an actual desktop. iPad pro was/is just a bigger iPad, which is also just a bigger iPhone.... I could actually go a distance as to why I think there are at least 3 better options to every single apple product out there.. but then again it boils down to user preference.
      My concern here however is innovation. Year on year every other product manufacturer adds something new and useful to their devices..after 5yrs+ of the same design of their MacBook range, they added a touch bar. You may agree that making iOS touch friendly and adding touchscreen functionality would have been more useful than the touch bar. iPhone 10 is pretty but it's not the only product to sacrifice a physical home button. Face ID is okay but apple could have done better with giving us options; even the Apple logo on the back could have been used for a finger scanner if they wanted to.
      Other manufacturers are really giving consumers sensible options but apple just does the same things and people like you clap for them.
      Let me add, I use a couple of apple products myself.. I only wish they gave us more exciting stuff like every other product manufacturer does.

    • @BangaloreTrafficMadness

      I agree. But there is a huge space for refinement. Apple does a good job at that. Just being first at something doesnt automatically make it useful to most

      If you mean the note pade that magneticly clipped on and you could actually use to write on, i presume they removed it as it wasnt actually used for drawing and was more less gimmicky. But if you mean drawing digitally, you can draw on the keyboard side which doubles as a trackpad for you pen where you can choose which screen you the image to come up on. This feature is great for professionals who are used to looking at the screen away from where they draw (due to graphic tablets) while also being easy for casual drawers as well (due to you being able to have the picture appear on the side you are drawing on as well).

    It's a shame the logo next to the screen is not a small e-ink display that reverses it when bent backwards instead of being upside-down...

    Looks really good, have my reservations about a virtual keyboard being comfortable for long typing sessions but if it's not too expensive would consider it.

    Can you still use the paper on top of the keyboard area and have your physical drawing digitally copied?

    Surprised the e-ink keys aren't Lenovo-shaped (Thinkpad/Ideapad).

    I am actually quite comfortable with the keyboard on the old Yoga book, but had to jump through a lot of hoops in order to get it working with Cyrillic (I'm sure mr. Savov knows what i mean). I assume (and hope )this will be a non-issiue with the new one, its keyboard being an e-ink display.

    Got my first convertible this year, now it's the only type of laptop I ever want. Not a power user, it's sufficient for my needs and much more practical.
    This Yoga though, can I pull it open without the double knock? It's a cool feature, but I feel like sometimes I would just want to yank it open on the run.

    I really like the idea of this design. However, I would be really concerned about always having one of the 2 displays exposed to scratches while using it in either tablet or e-reader mode. I would be afraid to set it down on a table.

    Love the concept , huge bezels seem to be the drawback . If the display was upgraded then
    It would have been a better option . Anyhow I love the knock on wake up idea 💡.

      Jacob N I have the original yoga book, and when using it as a tablet, larger bezels are a necessity

    But...who would want this? What would you actually use the E-ink display for other than typing, reading a book, drawing? And why would you sacrifice a regular keyboard for those features that aren't really that useful?

    Great summary! Had the 'old' Yoga Book 1 month ago. Changed it for a Surface Go. I'm slightly disappointed with the Go's speed when surfing the net (have the 8 GB version) as my old. Chromebook (C720p) is waaaay faster whilst surfing, doing homework and average useage.
    ... although.. this now seems just a as a expensive as the Surface Go... Hope it'll be a few 100 cheaper 😂

    For me personally I preferred the Wacom digitizer from the last one cause I use one note for taking class notes this e-ink display is really nice for reading but it sucks for note and taking in my opinion and the starting price is close to 1K I would just rather get a laptop but if it was around $500-$700 maybe I would consider getting but from what I seen in this video the lack of an actual digitizer pen just kills it for me otherwise it would have been a perfect little laptop for school 😭

    So if I place a paper on its halo keyboard and draw some thing with its digital ink refill pen then can I see the live drawing in its monitor? If not then to do so please send me the online purchase link for the extra item!

    Very nice, but, it's possible to draw on real paper over it and to record it (the drawing or sketch), or it works only on the screen with stylus?, this should be very useful for some designers (to draw on paper with normal pen over it and to record also the drawing digitally in the same time)
