Portraiture in Watercolours

  • One of the harder subjects in watercolour, I think, is painting faces and portraits. As always though, a few pointers and tricks can go along way to helping us with our watercolour portraiture.
In this video I start off talking about some basic principles of portraiture and painting faces. We look at how to properly place ad align the key facial features. What should we be looking for?
After that I break down the face in to only a handle full of key shapes and we ask what tonal value they are. Tis gives us the tonal map for our portrait or face painting and makes the whole process of tackling this subject with watercolour much, much easier!
