    I like that you include the upper right thumb nails of your pallet,photo, and towel, too. It's helpful to see, especially in a thumbnail, IMHO.
    It is so fascinating to watch you paint, you are so talented. I appreciate your loose,relaxed, and confident style. The end result reflects your relaxed approach and is just beautiful. Thank you, dear.

    Tom, you’re the most articulate art instructor on TH-cam, with your sophisticated paintings providing a good deal of credibility. Wow! I am so glad I bumped into your channel a few days ago, immediately subscribed, and now I just have to send you a thank you for your excellent content. I’m an experienced watercolorist, but even when you talk about topics I know about, you describe and define the issues in such an insightful way that it’s deepened my skill level. For us American English speakers, can you translate some of your paint thickness terms? I don’t know what “neat” means, and how is “double-cream” different from “cream?” Here in Minnesota we have tea, skim milk, whole milk (full fat), cream, and I’m not sure what’s next, lol. I love the wildlife, birds and mammals, and natural landscapes as subjects! Thanks again!

    • @katef8700
      @katef8700 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Martha! In the UK we have single & double cream - which really refers to butterfat content, so single is about 20% (usually used for pouring) and double is thicker & about 50%, used for whipping and so on. I think in the US you'd call it heavy or whipping cream. I'm not much of an artist, but I do make great cakes! :-D 'Neat' refers to something in its pure state without anything else mixed in - in this case I guess water, so probably paint straight from tube. Hope that helps!

      @tomshepherdartist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Kate!!:) “not much of an artist but make great cakes”....love it!!!;)

      Wow Martha! Thank you for such a kind and appreciative comment!! I am so glad to hear it helps and is clear, I love to teach and trying to simplify things into clear descriptions is a real aim!!
      “Neat” is straight out of the tube (maybe a touch of dampness in brush). I came across the watercolour clock by Joseph Zbukvic a while neck and have taken that on as a great way to explain paint consistency...so from watery tea up to much thicker but still very flowing single cream. Double cream here is much stiffer, doesn’t really flow but has a wetness to it still. Then the straight or neat paint is sometimes called butter...I tend to call it marmite, vegemite or even peanut butter (suddenly very hungry, ha!!)....I do have another video on paint consistency that should clear it up :)
      Thank you again for such a lovely and supportive comment!!:) kind regards, T

      @@tomshepherdartist Thanks, everyone, for clarifying those few terms for watercolor thickness. I also got a kick out of the cooking connection- haha! Well done.
      I’m a professional musician and college instructor who paints in order to have a creative outlet that’s free from the “have to professionally perform perfectly” pressure. I super-appreciate good teaching that conveys both technique and fresh imagination. Store that compliment in your pocket and use it again if you have one of those frustrating “professional artist” days! All the best, and I’ll keep watching!
