    wow, i love this channel. this was a great reassurance and help to me and my situation, and i just think it’s very thoughtful that you guys made a video about this specific side of things that most channels talking about hair loss don’t address. thank you! this overall was a very sensitive yet informed take and i can’t stress enough how important that is, especially considering how here in the US many of us trans folk are without solid healthcare and rely on professional advice through videos like these to ease our minds until we can get in to our specialists. the empathy goes a long way and y’all are doing something very important making videos like these widely available

    Cant wait for the female to male version of this! Currently what I'm going through and my main concern is that fin has the potential to restart the menstrual cycle, which is not wanted obviously. But I can't take topical minoxidill due to two very affectionate cats, and I believe minoxidill is fatal for cats. And minoxidill doesn't prevent further loss just regrows present loss. Topical fin might be an option as well as the caffeine shampoo I've been using to help strengthen my hair (so far i think its helping but not sure), will be talking to my doctor soon about it :)

      Have you considered oral minoxidil instead of topical? Trans women are sometimes prescribed a low dose of 0.25mg so that it doesn't also grow body hair, so I imagine trans men could go higher? And you might want to look into whether dutasteride has that same side effect as fin. Also I'm not a doctor btw lol

    • @con1._.1artist
      @con1._.1artist ปีที่แล้ว

      @Daisy Dale yeah i thought about that too but topical minoxidill is fatal for cats, and I don't want to risk them, and minoxidill in general regrows hair but doesn't stop hair from continuing to fall out. Thank you though :)

    I am closeted to my family, they still believe me to be a cis straight woman but I am a transmasculine nonbinary person who wishes to microdose testosterone one day. Men in both sides of my family tend to have thick, coarse hair with minimal receding, which comforts me, but hair loss still worries me. I am blessed with naturally thick hair that grows fast and it is my favorite aspect of my appearance. If I lost it I think I wouldn't be able to function, as vain as that sounds.

    I have met people who have transitioned from female > male and they have started to get pattern baldness

    • @con1._.1artist
      @con1._.1artist ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I believe a lot of genetically female people carry the genes for mpb but it never 'activates' so to speak, because they dont have enough testosterone, but if you start testosterone therapy, those genes activate! It's one of the main things they warn you before starting testosterone

      @@con1._.1artist For trans men, male pattern baldness is a very masucline thing to happen. So I would imagine they are less likely to have it negatively affect their self-esteem. could be completely wrong though.

    Thanks for answering this topic as a trans woman who’s asked in the past! My biggest questions are 1) whether i should ever stop taking finasteride if i already take spironolactone and estrogen? 2) are the estrogen routes of administration better or worse for hair retention? 3) what target T and E2 levels would theoretically halt male pattern baldness 4) does progesterone affect hair loss

    • @daisydale9063
      @daisydale9063 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just came out after New Years! With progesterone I know at the very least that it reduces DHT but supposedly might go beyond. Based on my personal experience you might want to keep using finasteride for other aspects of your transition like reducing body hair and from what I understand making it easier to reduce T. Chances are high that HRT can halt the progression of hair loss, but it's another thing whether it can regrow hair. Though anecdotally I've met other trans people who've had hairlines return to normal within a two year period, and considering hair loss drugs are less affective on receding hair lines that's a big deal

  • @dianatrif7085
    @dianatrif7085 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I thought that people who transition from male to female improve their hair or at least stay the same with the hair, I didn’t know they could experience hairloss.
    From female to male, yes, it seems logical because of the boost in the hormone testosterone.
    I hope everyone can find a treatment that works for their hairloss.

    I've been applying minoxidil 5% topically for 6 months. I had some gains in the first five months, but I'm beginning to lose a considerable amount of hair in the last month even without stopping the application. What could probably be the cause?

    • @exactly1176
      @exactly1176 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's a shedding (the hair cycle) it's perfectly normal and it also happens on medication. It just means your hair will grow back even thicker in 3 months . People have shedding approximately every 4 months so don't worry about that .
      Ps : you should also get on finasteride as minoxidil by itself won't be enough long term

    • @kipupgh
      @kipupgh ปีที่แล้ว

      @Exactly117 I'm already on citalopram which I take on a daily basis. I don't want to add another. However, if there is something like a finesteride that is applied topically, I would like to try it out. Is there something like that?

    • @exactly1176
      @exactly1176 ปีที่แล้ว

      @kipupgh4623 just get on topical finasteride (minoxidilmax or Keeps / Hims websites have it) those are serious sites don't worry.
      Or
      Get on topical pyrilutamide (anageninc). But since pyrilutamide is still not FDA approved : I would not get on it just yet ! (Definitely another option for the near future though).
      I think that for the time being : minoxidil + topical finasteride will be perfect for you ! (They have both together on minoxidilmax by the way, have a look). 👍

    • @dianatrif7085
      @dianatrif7085 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kipupgh, yes, there is, I have one made by Abbott which contains 5% minoxidil mixed with 0,1% finasteride.
      But I prefer the pills, I hate to put something topically on my scalp, I feel like and I am never with a fresh, clean scalp.

      @exactly1176 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is dehumanizing is telling my 6 year old kid that " it's okay to change your sex " Yes ... at school. That young !
      I think western societies are falling in terms of values this is getting insane and out of controle. LGBTQ are taking more and more space and we just talk about them way too much (advertising, TV shows, movies, video games. At school starting from elementary school etc...) those insane people would even be okay to start transitioning at 14 years old (when kids are having teenagers crisis and may very well regret their choices later) etc... I say :
      STOP ✋️ . Enough is enough !

    • @con1._.1artist
      @con1._.1artist ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @LLP i think they mean hair loss in transgender people. Most people discussing hair loss focus on cis (not trans) men. Hair loss is related to testosterone obviously and when you're trans (man or woman) that changes your testosterone and can have some unique side effects/considerations related to hair loss :)

    If a transwoman is already on finasteride and and testosterone blockers and their hair is shedding, what is causing it, it is it possible for this to happen
