Grubby is basically the only HotS streamer I watch, because I always liked his chill attitude and thought him to be really insightful with a wide mindset, always seeing things from more angles, from different perspectives, which (imo) puts him closer to the "Truth" than others.

I love that you say you believe in every hero! This has definitely been my experience playing with friends.
I have one friend who will consistently wreck an enemy team as Probius or Lili (damage Lili, who would've thought).
As long as the rest of us play around how our team comp is structured, any hero works.
Hey Grubs! I think I agree with your "Certain Hero" Rank idea. I used to be a Healer Main stuck around Plat 3-1. I decided to switch roles and started playing my other favorite heroes like Rag, Leo and Fenix more, but mostly Fenix. As I started to play Fenix, I was rolling over teams for several ranks, currently at a 60%+ with him. Now that I've reached Diamond 1, my games are way tougher to win, and I feel like i'm getting close to my "Fenix" rank.
Anywho, just thought I'd share. Great video Grubs.
I get over 80% with Abathur and 40-60% with most other heroes. So I only really climb noticeably when I play Abathur. Still trying to find my alternative heroes for when he's banned. I see it happen with other players as well. Tracer players, viking players, cho'gall players, etc. In a game like League of Legends that would be ok. As long as your main isn't a top tier pick then you can play him almost every game and just dodge the rest. But for HotS, when your teammates pick heroes, people can tell what would go well with it, so it's harder to one-trick ranked in this game I think, regardless of the smaller hero pool.

I'm in Diamond/Master league, and mostly play last-pick Morales/Sgt. Hammer. People hate us for it, but we have a 66% winrate in over 120 games in this MMR. It's almost become a meme, but it can just completely throw off the enemy team when played really well. Morales has a lot of self-sustain with certain talents (Safeguard energy on 1, self-heal activate on 4, self-heal on 7 (W), damage reduction on 13, 2nd W charge on 16, and upgraded trait on 20. This means that even against teams with a lot of dive (although we try to not pick this combo when this is the case), you can STILL survive dive and burst and Morales. The armor of W was once 25, now it's 35(!), which is a lot....
It took me a while to look for Lunara I was like she better be tier 1, poison queen

@@irkcoyunda7660 I used to main aralk. if you are good with him, he can be the best dps and combo maker in the game. Its all about getting that sadism and getting picks for your team. I like his list but honestly I would move Deckard atm up to top tier just because RUBY. Atm Ruby is so busted, if your team is coordinated, you can outheal any other healer or bait thier skill shots on yourself while you just walk circles and heal yourself as your team focuses and finishes them.
Kerrigan will always be an S-tier for me. S means "special" :) But I am very safe in picking her. Where would you place Hogger right now?
Gazlowe player here, love gazlowe, always have fun with him... i am surprised he is rated 'tier 2 - viable' , i love gazlowe and hence i am very bias, but i would normally put him in the tier 4 - 'blizzard please rework/buff this character' :P

Maiev should be top tier imo.
I have no idea why Malfurion is first pick material, he completely gets wrecked by a dive/burst comp, one of the squishiest heroes in the game too. No burst protection unless you are consistently hitting like 4 man Ws. Not saying he’s not good but those other heroes are so potent that they could probably stand to be nerfed at least a little bit, but I don’t think anyone is crying for Malfurion nerfs. There’s plenty of counterplay. Anything that can get on top of him, any sort of burst comp, plenty of situations where you would absolutely pick some of the lower tier heroes over him.

I would swap Fenix and Lunara. Fenix can beat all but top melee solo laners, and still good in group when your team picks one of those top laners. One of the only heroes that solos almost any camp from lvl1. He bursts half enemy health and force backs for free if you catch enemy out just like zeras and novas, and you have big impact team fight heroics. Both him and lunara have kinda weak slow CC but Fenix needs less help to escape with his TP.
Finally artanis on bottom, everyone picks him silver to bronze. And i always say that “dont use his swap plz..... you’re just trading.....”. 🤦🏻♂️
you can talent it to get extra attack speed which is probably why you're seeing that
I have consistently lobbied for the longest time for Artanis to at least get a Blink talent at level 20 but 5 years into the game and Blizzard still just wants him to be a mindless button-mashing brawler with zero disengage.
When I played I used Artanis exclusively and got placed in Plat and never played ranked again lol
It's all you need in Silver and Bronze. Killy heroes win games in those ranks. But yes, attack speed swaps are more powerful now since the rework, along stacking auto damage and with % hero damage.
Artanis with block is one of the best sololaners in Braxis. You can bully anything and you take minimum dmg from most solos. I have personally 1v1ed anything in high diamond with Artanis. If they don't have a lot of stuns, he is basically unkillable if you pick his tank talents and he can tank 5 people easily while doing dmg with follow through and plasma burn. He can also get high %hp dmg and murder frontlines.
I guess my point is that with a little skill he can easily be atleast viable. He has a very adaptable talent tree as almost all talents are viable and you can pick them in the right situations.
I play this game a lot (diamond/master) and I don't get how Yrel is considered so strong? She has good disruption/peel ability and she's strong in a lane. Both beyond that, doesn't she have 2 bad ultimates and her overall damage is pretty low? I guess she's good with zone control heroes as a combo (like pushing people in deckard's triangle). But overall, I never find Yrel to be a game changer in my games. Thanks.

Why do you put Malfurion in S tier, lol? Also, Artanis got a huge buff and is a great damage dealing bruiser now. I would not put him in not optimal tier anymore.

I hate Orphea all her abilities chain and they are all skill shot. Her ults are mediocre easily avoidable. Once you miss she is dead.

People get too attached to heroes they like and develop biases against heroes that "lose you the game if you pick them" instead of developing the biggest possible roster of heroes they can to play at a decent level. And I personally feel that the game rewards that on lower levels because you can one trick any hero to plat, diamond or even masters even though storm league seems to be designed to punish sticking to just one hero.
@@5JSX5 even lower leagues punish u for sticking to certain heroes, but allies can always carry u, and yeah opponents won't make efficient combos like in higher leagues.
There's always 2 points to consider. At the end of the day, this is just one person's opinion. The other point is that individual skill level will always beat out innate character strength. A Grand Master smurfing in Silver will make Nova look like a god.

I stop watching after seeing Brightwing at the worst tier. Brightwing has been very strong in Diamond+ even before CCL when everyone realizes how good a healer she is.

My poor girl Brightwing, I don't thinks he's as bad as people say, but she does need some help.
I think one issue is that people somehow believe you are forced to take Emerald Wind, which cuts out a ton of her healing power from Blink Heal. Until the very top levels, higher healing is usually preferred because a lot of people do not know how to disengage. Therefore sustained healing is better in the lower levels of play. In higher levels of play, people can coordinate better and focus fire and bursting will beat out healing power. If more people took Blink Heal I think popular opinion of Brightwing wouldn't be so low.

I would not say that any hero is bad. Even Butcher can work in masters if enemy team does a whoopsy and Butcher is locked as a last pick without blinds. Neither win rate matters on statistics webpage. Masters are misplaying constantly. Most of them do not have an impact on a match. They just play averagely and get killed when they should not. What people find difficult to deal in their meta becomes powerful. For example, Kerrigan is supposedly strong, but she is hard countered by good Anduin pulling person out of stunlock. She can engage without being rooted. Heroes and their win rates are personal and statistics shows how on average they perform.
I would personally have a different tier system. I would place Muradin in a first tier and would bring Rexxar and Li Ming down a level. The problem is that they are situational heroes. I also do not consider Li Ming to have any viable builds besides her W. If you go for E or Q build, you are then risking way too much for too little power. She becomes extremely skill dependent hero to hit all those skillshots and you are playing a super fragile mage which literally has zero defensive cooldowns. Furthermore, she literally can do nothing when she is jumped on by Tracer or Genji.
People place way too much belief into tier lists and talent options. The simple uncomfortable truth is. Talents do not matter. Heroes mostly do not matter. Most of the time team either wins or loses because they play worse. They macro worse. They are late to their objectives. Someone gets out of position and gets initiated on. Most games are lost or won by the common lowest denominator. A player which drags down everyone else or someone who messes up. Even if nobody engages, that is another failure of a team to set up plays. Just being at the right time and at the right place would give you a win.
If you would watch pro players play in tournaments, you would realize that they are not much better than your average ladder hero. They miss skill shots all the time. I see moronic plays where half dead healer goes to frontline to poke and then gets initiated on and wipes his team. On a professional level... Their secret is merely that they are more coordinated and they do objectives on time and they gather up for teamfights early and stay together. This is it. This is the secret to being the best player in the world.
This is my biggest issue with HOTS, the gaps in player skill is so apparent. When I was in GM I was consistently surprised at how bad even GM players are; like not even soaking waves bad. An oceans gap between the highest skilled player in the lobby and the lowest almost every game.

Mostly good but I feel like there are some weird picks here.
Lunara is definitely not Tier 1 in any draft setting. QM, sure. But all of her damage is DOT that is easily heealed. Unless they picked Uther, she's kind of weak.
Valera, lol no. She's too good at 0-100 anyone that she would ever be Not Optimal. Without Tass having Oracle trait, there isn't a lot of ways to deal with Invisible. For instance, Kharazim can get a talent at lv 4 but that also means he loses Earth ally, so your team will be vulnerable if they take any decent auto attackers. All she needs to do is go on the back line and roam early on. It's hard to say she is easily countered when she early counters higher tier heroes (like TLV and Murky).
Maphisto is too low given his actual damage output.
Maltheal I think is vastly overrated in general. He needs a team with high HP and little poke and that likely wont happen. Healing is not good enough and he has no escape. If he goes on the back line, he can't kill them fast enough since his damage is totally base on Max HP. He can struggle against the front line because his damage is slow and his healing is weak on fewer targets. He has no escape and his Lv1 movement talent is negated by any slow. Should be Tier 2.
I'd argue Aba is tier 1 since he is picked/banned a lot now.
Auriel is probably tier 1 unless you're saying she's hard to play. Resurrection turns any trade into a win which means the enemy team needs to kill more than you. Healing is good and she synergies with a lot of Tier 1.
any non point and click spell can reveal Valeera. And she is easily counterable if you are just careful with positioning and dont go in bushes alone. Lunara is good if she gets consistent dmg. She cant 100-0 a hero on her own but she applies a lot of pressure in team fights and has a form of self cleanse with her jump ult. I agree on Mephisto (at least if you know how to play him).
Malth is great in solo lane and gets a lot of value if he can keep his trait on at least 2 heroes in team fights.
Aba and Auriel have drawbacks cuz they rely too much on their teams.
"Tass without oracle" If you really think that Valeera's biggest weakness is reveal then get yourself a tank player that can actually peel. As for Auriel, she is practically weaker then pre-Resurrection-buff Auriel since they nerfed her base kit for some reason when they tuned down Res itself
Gabriel Abdi Valeera can easily go on the back line when a fight starts. You can always dodge abilities and you have to waste abilities on her in the first place. She’s not useless uncloaked either. It’s not easy to stop Valeera if the enemy is also engaging on you. Also can shut down macro heroes that soak away from the team. Going to defer to Fan’s list which puts her as an A and “almost always good in any comp”. She’s not easily countered.
Lunara’s damage is over times and can be healed up. It’s easy to counter her with any sustained healing so she shouldn’t be in A for that reason alone. If the goal is to put pressure, pick someone that just does that but with actual damage.
Malth is a decent laner but is shut down by any ranged hero. In team fights, he doesn’t heal enough to stay in and he doesn’t do enough damage to quickly end heroes. He also lacks a disengage. Auriel has builds where you can easily get energy so that’s not an issue. Aba is just strong in general and busted with the right comp. Since I brought up Fan, both are S on his list. Grubby is measuring it differently but I’d say on strength alone they can be higher.
Im confused in his playing 60 games with qhira or with hanmer and yea.....
That was 60% Qhira winrate vs 40% Hammer winrate.
Imagine I win 1/10 games with Rexxar but 9/10 with Chen.
I should play Chen even if Rexxar is the stronger hero or has higher winrate stats among all the players.
As I climb with Chen, I will face stronger opponents, so my winrate will drop.
When it reaches 5/10 (50/50), that is my actual skill level, whatever my rank is at that point.
His point was you should worry about your skill with your hero, not what the stats say.
One point you might be missing is that logically you personally will have different skill levels for each hero, whereas in the game you are assigned one single MMR per queue. To give you a clearer example, I'm a healer main ranked in Diamond. Just because I am in Diamond doesn't mean I can play all heroes at a Diamond level, I excel at playing healers but I'm not as strong at playing the tank role. So I have high win rates on healers like Anduin, but lower winrates on heroes like Johanna. So I should have different skill levels with those heroes, but for match making purposes, I have a single MMR for the both of them.
Interesting take but i'd like map specifics tier lists instead. Imperius and Rexxar are not tier 1 on every map. Rexxar is only OP on 2 maps and Imperius is bad at double-soaking. I'd also add Xul to tier 1.
Then make your 4-man do the rotation, while you demolish your lane
@@johnzhu8693 The thing is that the meta on multiple maps is to have your solo lane double-clear lanes, you put your team at a significant disadvantage by picking Imperius there.

He has very very few heroes that can beat him on Dshire/Braxxis, and he has a very good stun

Also deckard is easily Top tier
Yrel too (op no matter what the draft)
Blaze is Tier 1 or top tier (insane in any comp)
Tyrael Tier 1 too (a bit situationnal but insane too)
Maeiv is Tier 1 (Maiev is situational but insanely strong)
Lunara Anub are tier 2 not tier 1 (They are always meh no matter what the comp, there is always a better choice in both cases)
Genji is at least Tier 2, especially with teh current meta top tier heroes
Malf is tier 1 not Top tier, he suffers vs burst damage and cant precleanse
Sylvanas is the #1 ranged physical dps in the game, that part is not in question. It's just strange he doesn't have any ranged physical dps in his top tier.

It's a mistake to use heroesprofile as a guiding tool without adjusting any filters. Search for master player rank and hero lvl over 25 and under 100 during 3 patches worth of data and you'll find a better picture of a serious SL meta.

Fan can win with any hero in GM league
Individual skill level will always beat out innate character strength. Fan is technically on another level higher than GM, he is literally one of the best players in the world.

How exactly is diamond/master more relevant when 75% of players are gold and below?
Grubby said why in the same sentence......that's the level of team mates/opponents he has in most or all of his games, this is his tier list, based on his experience - that's why it's 'more relevant'
This is a great question which is impossible to answer correctly. Which deserves more attention for balance? There is no right answer. Historically games have looked at the top for balance, it's only a recent thing where you have what they call "pubstompers" which are super effective at lower levels of play but fizzle out in higher levels. Kael is a great example. Then you also have reverse examples of characters who are effective at higher levels of play but seem like complete trash at lower levels, two I could mention are Alarak and Yrel.

bro i just played a game where the Stitches on my team kept hooking enemy Taunt Varian "accidentally". do you think that we were able to kill him? We weren't. It was just a free gap closer for Varian. The whole enemy team just dived in after him and we got slaughtered every time. if you think Stitches is a high tier character you are mistaken. This is just one example, Grubby goes over many other heroes that you don't want to hook.

I think your tier list struggles between the concepts of "heroes that are good" and "heroes that are hard". For example Valeera is one of the best heroes in the game, but she requires a lot of skill so you put her in tier 3. You need to straighten this out and just make a tier list of how good heroes are and maybe if you make it for gm and silver that will show the skill factor.
As for clear mistakes, Deckard is easily moved a tier up together with Mei. You say she is countered by a lot of movement and idk what you mean by that but if I assume you mean assassins wrecking your backline, she has so many tools, like all her abilities, that if she hits one, her backline is safe.
Very cruel mistakes for anyone playing ranked is putting Azmodan, Gazlowe, Nazeebo and Murky in the Viable tier, they are not viable. Naz is good with a lot of skill for map pressure same with murky.
Artanis can easily be in viable as he is one of the best sololaners and I am convinced he can beat Rexxar with the proper amount of skill. He is also very easy to start playing.
Many heroes you have put too far down due to skill requirements which makes it very confusing which is my main problem.
I agree with almost everything you said but artanis will strugle to win a lane against rexxar. If the skill of both players is the same rexxar can simply outplay everything that artanis can do. Actually he can outplay almost all heroes if not all. That's why he is such a priority in maps like dragon shire and braxis.
@@MrPorto4ever what I usually do against good Rexxars is just attack misha so that they run oom from pressing E. It works in high diamond, which really isn't the best of skill levels so idk for higher MMR
@@Green_Corsair You can't beat Misha from level 4. It heals up with every strike and Misha + Rexxar damage will win out. You also can't do anything against him. A good Rexxar won't use his Q and W. If you try to swap him, he will try to dodge. Even if you manage to close the distance, he will easily kite you with his Q and W.
You can't out-sustain him. You can't catch him. He is a lot safer in a gank scenario where Artanis is just dead.
Btw: Overall, you are quite wrong with your suggestions. You confuse your own personal opinion with a fact.
@@REgamesplayer that was 2 years ago or even more, I think it was before the Dva rework and the release of Hogger even. I don't really remember what the meta was like back then, but I remember I played a lot of artanis on braxis against diamonds and I think I knew his matchups pretty well. But you are correct for current patch.
Some stuff here is non-sense. First i would like to say i don't think Diablo or Garrosh have good wave clear. Mei for example has more wave clear and its a tank, E.TC as well, Johanna, you name it. Apart from your tier list being quite strange (Having Genji as one of the worst heroes in the game, for instance), i also think you are a bit incoherent: 1:40, for example, you say you are not just looking at statistics and that if you look at heroes by WR% you will find something very different than your tier list. Alright, now about "Qhira's rank" from that guy. You say that if he plays Qhira every match he will end up having 50% WR at his Qhira rank. That makes sense theoretically, but thats not how Matchmaking works, a Master can play with Gm #1, and Gm #1 can play with lower rank people as well. So if he's at master, that means he already reached the highest ceiling when it comes to Storm League matchmaking. So he have 53% winrate at Qhira playing with GMs and Masters and Diamonds. I think you get that you argument falls apart when you realize this. Also its again contradictory because you said that the winrate doesnt mean anything (17:42) after saying that statistics don't lie.

I don't agree with every heroes in your Tier because some heroes are maps dependent.
Imperius is not always good for a first pick because he is not strong on most 3 lanes maps because he have one of the worst wave clear in the game nor is Rexxar on maps outside of Dragon Shire and Braxxis.
Your mention Qhira been dependent on landing her skillshot to deserve on good spot on your list. At the same time you have one of the most singular hero in the game in tier S: Imperius.
Qhira have a better wave clear than him, she's less easily counterable because her skillshot makes her immune (Imperius can be pushed or stunned and be denied of all is big damage) and she have a better espace (her hook).
She have worst survivability than Imperius but she isn't that bad because of how her W talent can heal for a insane amount.
I feel a hero like Alarak is just plain better than Imperius in the melee assassin role: Safer setup for kills and much harder to react to him plus he have a better wave clear in the form of: E, W+Q.
Imperius can just be pushed out of his Q and lose his big burst.
imo, Qhira and Alarak are "win more/feast or famine" heroes. Imperius can easy carry a teamfight, a qhira and alarak cant really from themselves. They need lvl/talent advantage and cannot fight against a talent advantage. Alarak just sucks if you as much as die 1 time on him after stacking.
I agree with grubby, the numbers dont lie. 5% global more winrate on imp than qhira tells a lot!
Also, Imp is a bruiser, Qhira/Alarak are not. DIfferent slot in team comp in theory.
Imperius is very good at PvP his weakness with waveclear can be covered by a teammate, with talents if he needs it that badly and also killing other heroes denies their waveclear and xp soak not to mention gets you objectives. In a teamfight you'd rather have Imperius than Qhira. Imperius hitting his skillshots contributes more than Qhira hitting hers. She's also squishy. Alarak depends on ur draft. Imperius can fit in any team.
Every hero can be pushed, stunned, interrupted.

Please explain me because I can't see the idea behind it. I can understand about Alarak but I would say his AA build is not as FoF as you would think because you can get a good a lot of sadism very quickly with Blade of the Highlord.
Imperius can easy carry a teamfight.
Not all the time, if he miss his Q, he's basically a walking minion. His basic AA are very slow and need some brand to be worth something. He is also a big handicap because the rest of your team have to provide the wave you're 0% capable of doing. A team that know Imperius is drafted, have a large range of hero that can deal with him well. First: displacement like Lucio can keep all his charge in check with a lower cooldown. Second: Stun. You stun him when he manage to land a charge and he lose his burst. Third: High mobility.
On the number: Imperius is a very easy hero to play, he have nothing fancy or hard to execute outside of his Q. Hero like Hanzo, Alarak and Qhira will always have a lower WR because they ask the player a much higher skill floor to begin with.
@@KiiroSagi You say Imperius fit in any team. What if you got a team with low wave clear. I played Imperius and it happened to me. What if you're the main hero for setup up kill and the enemy team have displacement and stun to stop/interrupt your Q? Imperius doesn't fit any team and his weaknesses can be easily abused. I played him a lot before and I had those scenarios. You can feel very powerful when the enemy team drafted correctly against you or your own didn't drafted well. A good Alarak doesn't depend as much on your team draft because the only things that are strong against him are anti-burst and high mobility which are also strong strategy against Imperius.
@@Exozik first of all you are comparing apples to oranges. Imperius is not a melee assassin. He is a bruiser but where he has been shining lately is actualy as a tank. In high competetive play you only see in played as tank and nothing else so the fact that he lacks waveclear is not that important. And he destroys as a tank right now.
I just think that thay should nerf kael thas he is not fun to play against. He has too many point and click powerful abilities

Wait wait. Genji is still a killer. Stitches can tank like tha swatter can hit. Morales is still a good trick. From time to time "get morales " will lose you the game.
