Wow! This is mad! I would say that this is probably THE best game/real life comparison video I've ever seen. The syncing is unbelievable! Even the gearshifts are only a second or two apart during the whole video, the camera is pretty much the same and the opponent hovering in front was the final straw for me :D Georg has outdone himself this time :)
If not for the mirrors and the vibration of the real camera it wouldn't be destinguishable from the real footage...absolutly amazing. Great video. My father was completly fooled and thought both were real and I would try to screw with him.
Colours and shades are ALL WRONG. The intensity,the texture of materials...there are better products out there. This sim is based on a really old graphics engine. 5 years ago was great now...meh even a Ps4pro can do better 😥 Time for a Raceroom 2!! 😁😁😍😍😍

Jack Recami PS4 Pro? M8, a crap game playing on a GTX Titan will still look crap. However, given the age of the engine, the niche market, and the variables of people's screen setups, it's hard to get 100% Keep in mind that not even the driver of the real video sees the same as what the video shows. It's merely how the camera takes in light and movement.
This is the dopest shit I've ever seen. Very good job syncing up with real footage. I don't know how you did it, but very satisfying to watch. Thanks for the effort you put in to making it.
I don't understand why the devs, whatever sim/racing game it is, they don't add the vibration/shakiness effect to the cams attached inside and outside the car. The replays looks flat because the camera is fixed like in a F1 car, which isn't real since in GT and road cars, they use action cams, mostly, and they vibrate, subtly, but vibrate. Also devs could add a subtle washed out filter on those replay cams and we have a perfectly real replay in game.
+Mark I'm not talking about FPV, but replays only. People could say "who cares about replays", but honestly, since Grand Prix Series by Geoff Crammond, I enjoy watching replays of my driving or replays in general in racing sims. This addition would add more fidelity to the replays.
Tall grass, race net not animated, no windshield debris, no blur transition to DOF when the Audi peels away, missing the key/kill switch, gauge is a bit too vibrant on a clear day vs overcast. Love the clip
Not really an RR player, But I like the graphics in both RR and rFactor 2. Ironically, It looked as if you were playing a different game since it looks as if the Gran Turismo logo is showing on the top of the windshield in RR (yes, it is mirrored).
Pretty good! It is missing some bumps, the car still looks like it is racing in wooden wheels (only PC2 got that simulated), but it is really, really good! Everyday, simulation and reality intertwine more and more. I am still hoping that the VR googles get a lot better, so we can start to have the same graphic quality within the googles than we do in our screens. That way, we will be racing in the EXACT same way than we do IRL. :) Awesome video, by the way!
iRacing has the best online multiplayer service (which is expensive). But their tire model 'cold tire=more grip' (+cold track=car glued) is not realistc (ask to Nicki Thiim). They announced the NTM v7 recently, we'll see...
actually there are a lot of small differences in the cockpit (instrument panel, LED lights, shape of buttons and mirrors, colors :) - great video by the way! the tracks are the best compared to any other sim i guess.
The only way I could tell a difference was that R3E looks sharper than real life. Just put a little blur on the camera and they’d look identical. Love to see one that tests GTS, AC, PC2, etc.
I've found that racing in a game is more difficult than real life for a gt3 car. No proper pedal feel, no forces on your body, no real tire grip. I've done 3 test laps in an older 997 gt2 few years back on cota.
I agree. But after a while, you develop other senses. Just like a person who looses his vision develops better hearing and better tactile, a sim racer without gforces will compensate by getting a finer sense of wheel weight, and without pedal feedback will learn to use the tyre squeal instead. It takes plenty of time though.
In R3E, I'd say I'm pretty decent at driving a GT3 car. But I feel in reality, my body would feel so alien to the forces and feelings. Sure, in Raceroom, I know what the car can and can't do, and how to weight transfer and push the tires to the edge of their grip. And I have put down lap times that smoke real life VIP drivers' leader board times. But in reality, I imagine that I could not push a car to those limits. The forces would be much more extreme, the tenseness, my mind would believe the car is at the edge of it's capability even if it isn't. And many variables would make it far more difficult to squeeze those times out in real life.
I couple of things I've noticed. The real car can keep up much better while following the other one directly in front of it in the long series of corners after Karussell, while you seemed to struggle for a little bit trying to counterbalance the lack of grip and on the BtG straight you obliterated the Audi in pure speed despite the real counterpart not managing to even overtake after drafting for half the straight. Other than that, a couple more "minor" technicalities just for immersion sake, such as the fact that even if these games can -in theory- all render the player car in the mirrors (cockpit, spoiler, doors, etc), it's still absent in what's essentially the best rendition of the aging gMotor2 (although heavily modified by now). Will anything be ever done about it? The lack of flashing headlights would be nice to see addressed one day aswell. I remember that for GTR2 we managed to create some sort of script for Logitech wheels that could sort of fake that effect, but a natively-supported feature would be appreciated. All in all, it's reminiscent of the old PSX.de league days when we used to race the VLN05 and VLN07 mods (you were there aswell). If only R3E had modding support or at least some of the VLN/N24 lower classes for proper multiclass racing...
06:15 If you just start watching the clip here it can maybe trick you in to thinking that both look like simulators because of how the cars are racing. WE LIVE IN A SIMULATOR WITHING A SIMULATOR! no but release season 4 now plz. If this get a million likes season 4 will be released.
Why do sims CONTINUE to get shift lights wrong? You should only see them start to illuminate when you're higher up in the RPMs getting read to shift. Having them start illuminating from around idle RPM defeats the purpose as you're stuck staring at only 2 or 3 LEDs switching on and off as you shift up through the gears.
Ok! After watching this video, some things as far as how much closer to realism, a racing sim can get when comparing them to one another, I have paused and play, and paused and play, and some interesting things have I noticed. Everyone talks of how real and nice graphically some are over others. Its funny, that R3E, looks better graphically than the real thing. The real thing in terms of comparing it to R3E, looks so "BAD" (notice the quotes). Which tells me to ignore what everyone is talking about graphical wise. Barreling down the road at that speed, your eyes will only see through a tunnel (focused) view, making everything else blurry anyway. You can't afford to pay enough attention, to how beautiful the scenery is. So, if your complaint is against how non the details of trees, are in a sim, come back here, click on this video, and watch the real thing, then tell me which looks better, the sim with less detail, or the one with more?!. The other thing; R3E Elevation Effects. According to this video here, its right on with the real deal, so again what's the fuss about that about!? So, if we cancel out the graphics, which in my opinion based off of real vs sim, either the visuals are clear, blurry or whatever, should not even be mentioned, because the real deal, visually is, well,... the real deal,... and not so good looking. Sure if you slow down enough to take a gander at your surroundings then yes, things should look wonderful, but as soon as you get on that gas, visuals should not be considered, as much as everyone wants to consider it. Sound well, your ears don't have sight, so we can talk about sound. Physics seems to be all over the place with everyone's opinions, and coming from people that have never driven, a real race car on one of these real circuits. Leave your own personal, day to day, driving mobile, out of it. I don't think that count. I would go as far, as to say, even those that have had the chance, to go around a real race track only once, in a real race car, don't count either. Let, the real race drivers tell you which racing sim is more realistic. If any of them which has the real experience say, any of them are realistic, just leave it at that, because they know better, which means you get to relax and enjoy your racing sims, and let the all not knowing, naysayers go back and forth with each other.
I think devs of VLN went way too far and are too focused on unimportant aspects. Simulation of the steering wheel cable or the safety net is a bit too much don't you think? I mean all that calculations and then the player had to disable shadows and to render in potato resolution to get smooth fps. I get that the force feedback is awesome in this, but you also need very crazy hardware to even feel that. The AI opponent is superb though I have to admit. Although I am not quite sure if the track is modeled correctly. I think the car shakes too much the road feels very bumpy, RR is much more accurate there. Given the price point of idk 100k per stint, I think VLN is just too expensive for what it offers, despite the superior AI.
Hi Georg, Fantastic Video ! ! ! So true to life. But, I have one eye sore and it's that lone tree on frame 1:43 straight head, No sims has gotten it right. Is there anyway, you can mention it to the Graphic designers and correct it, please...!
Bit late for this video, its a shame that RaceRoom netted enclosure doesn't move around like the real car does. ACC nails this extra effect, not needed whilst driving but for pure realism would be fantastic. Much like the window wipers move.
Kind of amazing, a long long way from the Commodore 64 we've come... And still on DX9 ;) I bought the AMG, R8, Bentley and McLaren but still only tried the AMG so car, difficult to get out of and it's the one car in R3E I was waiting and waiting for. Don't recall what Porsche are coming, I'm hoping for GT3 RS and at which point I'll have myself taped to the wheel :)
I can confirm the Porsche 991.2 Cup as it was announced earlier. You won't need to wait for long to know the two others but as a hint the RUF GT3 was removed from our store, so you can guess which is one of them ;)
Yes I noted the removal of the RUF. Funny when playing against AI every time I'd see the back of the RUF I thought it might be an early preview of one of the new Porsche. Looking forward...

Jens Helbing since Georg is a Dev of r3e he actually has access to devbuilds, which probably allows to select a specific opponent car... That's my best bet.
Yea, I do know that Georg is working at Sector3 (and runs some unreleased features on stream/vids from time to time), my comment was more or less just a small "wave with the fencepost" 😉 regarding the often requested AI selector.😎

R3E has this G-force effect to the camera (drivers head in fpv), and its intensity is adjustable or can be turned off.

How did you make the two videos to match perfectly ? Did you had to make one of them faster/slower at some point ? The result is very impressive !
Minor adjustments to compensate for traffic & AI, but not much editing was needed :)

Jens Helbing since Georg is a Dev of r3e he actually has access to devbuilds, which probably allows to select a specific opponent car...

Yea, I do know that Georg is working at Sector3 (and runs some unreleased features on stream/vids from time to time), my comment was more or less just a small "wave with the fencepost" 😉 regarding the often requested AI selector.😎
