Freaking awesome video! Can't wait to see you tweak it. I used a GPS superpipe and Mikuni VM22-133 on mine. This resulted in a major increase in performance. @redbeards garage: Any chance you'd consider this as your first stage on the Ghost?
I wrench on these engines and I’m telling you with red beards garage videos and some simple tools you can build your engine very easy. The predator 212 is the simplest four stroke engine in the world to work on. To me they are as simple as doing a top end on a Yamaha blast two stroke and your not going broke doing it. Red beard has the best step by step video on building a 212 I have ever seen.
I couldn't resist getting a Ghost just to check it out. The Box Stock Project engine is definitely faster on a kart. I don't have a dyno, but I can feel the difference and the clock doesn't lie. I did put in a billet flywheel but have not changed the rod on the Ghost. The BSP engine has billet rod and flywheel. The biggest difference, like you mentioned in this video is the carburetor, given that the valves are set up similarly. I swapped them out but still the BSP was a stronger out of the corner and faster to rev. It was an interesting experiment but if I could only buy one, I would go with the BSP and build it with the billet parts. I think you get a slightly better engine, and you know what's in it. They are likely made by the same factory, along with Tilitson and several other brands, so it boils down to how you build and set it up more than the quality. You can do a lot with any of these if you do the homework when you build them. Usually, I race in LO206 anyway and those engines are great, well built long lasting strong pulling and you don't have to do much to them to be competitive in the class. Do some valve maintenance [springs, maybe lightly hone the valve seat] change your oil every couple of hours of runtime (Amsoil Briggs Oil is best in my opinion) and you can get what you need to race and have a ball. I think the L in LO206 stands for LAZY... that's me.
Definitely not much of a slouch. Still not much to sneeze at that's for sure. Definitely nice to know that one could see 9.8-10hp with one out of the box without doing much.
Thanks for the info on the Ghost 212 . I have not had a mini bike / pull start ever. So I think it would be kool to have a mini bike for playing around camping. Then I don't alway have to ride the big name brand bikes. It's always nice to see what the bang for your buck. Around Bend Oregon out on 2 wheels
Great series on the ghost I agree with you all the way on a building a motor yourself I think you get way more out of it can't wait to see you put the 224 stroker motor on their I have one close to it be anxious to see what kind of numbers it turns I'll be looking forward to Future series keep it coming great job

Mr red beard I have to share this 20 years ago when the Honda design was just catching on there were no billet rods we took Honda rods and double the tourqe from 9 ftlbs to 18 with stock bolts flattop piston and gapless rings with compression ring machine to accept an oil ring in a groove on top ring it had a 308 cam stock rockers with straps welded to the sides to keep them from breaking cut the head 100 thousands it would hold 340 pound of compression with stock Honda flywheel I turned it 8500 very often not saying that was right but never exploded a flywheel tilitson carb it was a beast for back then and had to set our own flywheel key ignition timing was 40 degrees it would only run eight mile or it would overheat
The screw is lock tight in, I went & got a stroger screw, still may fly off at higher rpms, I just wanted it to be safer and only hitting 6k rpm's for now
Great video. Love the whole process of breaking in and then doing pulls. Would love to see a comparison between Predator Ghost vs. Briggs Animal Lo206.

It's just a spec used to be safe. You know you are not too tight or too loose. You can use 2 or 5 thou if you want and it's not going to make a difference. 3 thou more or less valve lift is nothing. A detailed builder can carefully set these at zero.
Cars and Cameras put one of these on a machine and Ike had mentioned the Ghost felt more out of balance than the other Predators and Tillotsons. What's your take on this? Also was wondering if the intake that was on it at the beginning was part of the accessory pack and if so, why wasn't it used? Really enjoying these dyno vids.....top quality stuff!

Get tools to measure, and learn to use them by measuring what you've got. You got a 3/4 inch crankshaft? You gotta know to buy a clutch or torque converter. I know I swapped the 196 's in my colemans for 212s because of parts availability. 196 had a funky crankshaft iirc. Even a Harbor freight set of calipers is better than nothing. I'd be looking closely at the crank on the duromax, too. It might be one with an odd sized crank.
@@patarmstrong3582 Yes but unlike the Predator 212's the Hisun 196 uses ALL clone parts. You can get a clone crankshaft anywhere for $30 or so. Let's see you find a Predator specific crankshaft. If you do find one expect to pay more than $50 for it. And once you get Predator 212 specific parts like a rod or flywheel you are stuck with them. My clone (196) flywheel fit perfect on my 224. And I could have used the ARC rod from my 196 for the 224. Can't do that with a Predator 212.
Thanks for all the incredible content. I have a question, it doesn’t have to do with this video but your stereo that you put in your F150. Has it stood the test of time? Thanks.
Hey Red, What jets do the ghosts take? I got a takeoff for 5 bucks and was going to put on a 224 max, originally bought for my pressure control but daughter saw it and wanted it for her mini bike instead of the ducat 212.
Love the vid I've been looking for a better engine to put on this old streaker go kart frame I got sitting around the motor it originally had was a 6 & a half horsepower Briggs & Stratton so I want to put something on there that will wake it up a little bit plus I have 12 inch knobby tires and both back wheels turn it's not just a one-wheel cart so the six and a half horse power struggles a little bit to get it going but maybe the predator ghost will do a lot better so I'm definitely going to check it out thanks for the video
On the cast flywheel, could the magnet mount be modified and tap it to fit a 8mm cap head bolt? I cannot see a cast flywheel cracking like a V8 flywheel pushed to 8 grand with huge clutch shock loads? Has anyone tested these flywheels? Would like to run a electric start on one of these motors.
Years ago when I was young say 16 or 17, I bought a go cart frame and the frame was made 1.5" drilling pipe. The gocart had 2 motor mounts and the gears for the axle were welded in place. I sold the gocart because I had no money, my friend bought the card because they had a motor for it, of course they were cheap like me and could not afford a clutch for it so they put a straight gear, so if you push start it it would go. One day they took it to a local shopping center parking lot and they were push starting it, it took off and when it stopped itn had moved a mailbox with concrete on the legs, moved 10 feet. When the Byers kids inspected the go cart, the frame did not even bend
The ghost was richer then all the others. Lean is mean. Can see the correlation of afr to hp. The hp will lag a lil in comparison to afr as afr changes then right after you’ll see in the hp. Idk neat to see although hard to see.
Wonder how much my 212 predator non hemi makes I picked it up and he said he got it from someone else and it didn't run it's got a billet flywheel and rod and he claims 265 cam, also has 22lb springs and a genuine mikuni 22mm on it. I did get it to run and it does sound pretty good not sure if the cam is true or not tho
same power just higher in the range, a cam swap is the major difference between an engine designed to run a small water pump and one designed to be in a kart. might not look allot faster on paper but there is most likely a massive difference in performance in a properly geared and clutched application
for the same $$$$$, esp after including the $150 for the header accessory package ($450 total + taxes) ... a person can have a PRETTY HOT 212 PREDATOR and a gas tank. CM .265 cam $65, side cover gasket $5, cast alum flywheel $76, billet rod $76, $25 for 22mm PV carb and air filter. .009" head gasket. 22# springs, spiffy the motor up. oil, gas... and jet kit for the carby since it comes with 99 jet when it needs a 125'ish jet to make it RUN and not fall down at 5500 rpms.
Glad I'm not the only one that runs good oil in my small engines. Seems like everyone else just tosses whatever is sitting in their backyard in the engine. I'm over 300 hours on my stock 196cc hisun without a single hiccup
On your Ghost engine, there's a wire coming out of the flywheel cover on the top left side that is bolted to the top of the block. I don't have that on my ghost motor. What is it?
Mine's choke will turn itself on then it will die, on the final stroke it will shoot air back out the intake which is very weird. Also I didnt do anything to break it in, I forgot to do that so I may have messed some stuff up but I have no idea.
Liquid Combustion Technologies made/makes the Workhorse engines for Northern Tool. They seem to hold up, technically only rated for 500 hours of service life, but that could vary.
Thank you for doing these for us.Please forgive my comment in a previous episode test as seeming rude.It wasn't meant as such.I just hoped you'd grind the key so the timing was stock as anyone else would do without the cam upgrade yet.Would you please run that engine corrected before the next add-on parts? Thanks Greg.

Thanks.
No I took it out a few years ago and the company wouldn't respond after the video was published.
@@RedBeardsGarage thank you
Yesssss!!!! Can't wait to see the upgrades
I'm starting out with a 212 Ghost, what bolt on parts should I replace for better performance and in what order?
Flywheel, carb, etc...
Thanks
Hey Red,
What jets do the ghosts take?
Can you dyno the Ghost against the Briggs LO206? and maybe possibly with the different colored carburetor slides as well?
Ghost is only $225 this week with 25% off coupon. Can’t beat that…
Thanks much for the info on this Goast engine.
Question will the 18lb valve springs and billet caps that fit a gx160 Honda Fit a gx140 and will the cams fit the gx140 ?
Another great video brother! Lots of good information!!
Thanks for watching
Any chance we will be seeing a dyno test of the 196cc turbo diesel? That would be an interesting one.
Great video! Please show us more upgrades on the 212cc predator engine. Thanks
Hi Greg, I just received a massage that I won a price. Just want to know if this is real…
No it's a scam. I'm sorry.
What clutch do you use?
Who you gonna call?
Ghost Busters!
Great video!
oldie but goodie lol
I'm lookin forward to the BIG BLOCK and V testing 💪☮️
same power just higher in the range, a cam swap is the major difference between an engine designed to run a small water pump and one designed to be in a kart. might not look allot faster on paper but there is most likely a massive difference in performance in a properly geared and clutched application
The Ghost is a beast for the money, great solid motor
😂😂
It's a good choice for a motor you aren't going to open up, or for someone who doesn't have tools or inclination to build a motor themselves.
@@patarmstrong3582 Its a good motor overall we run the hell out of them
for the same $$$$$, esp after including the $150 for the header accessory package ($450 total + taxes) ... a person can have a PRETTY HOT 212 PREDATOR and a gas tank.
Might be missing some hp with that tiny air filter on it. Great video Greg!!
Will those carbs work with a gravity fuel tank?
Yes
I like the 440cc proven value you introduced to the world
That's what I thought, but thanks for this video and your thoughts, probably going to go with the base model tilly 225 rs
I tryed to change my ingition coil to the Taylor performance and it’s didn’t start what coil I have did wrong
Glad I'm not the only one that runs good oil in my small engines. Seems like everyone else just tosses whatever is sitting in their backyard in the engine. I'm over 300 hours on my stock 196cc hisun without a single hiccup
what oil brand and weight do you use
@@markyoung9964 Short oil change intervals and viscosity are more important than brand. Keep an eye on it and change it before it turns black.
I thought the series was putting on stage 1, stage 2, etc?
On your Ghost engine, there's a wire coming out of the flywheel cover on the top left side that is bolted to the top of the block. I don't have that on my ghost motor. What is it?
What size jet are you running in the 24mm carb on the road to hp
Mine's choke will turn itself on then it will die, on the final stroke it will shoot air back out the intake which is very weird. Also I didnt do anything to break it in, I forgot to do that so I may have messed some stuff up but I have no idea.
Great video as always!! Anyone ever had any dealings with a LCT 208cc??
Liquid Combustion Technologies made/makes the Workhorse engines for Northern Tool. They seem to hold up, technically only rated for 500 hours of service life, but that could vary.
What is the gap for valve lash on these motors same as standard predator?
Can't wait for a stick 225rs to be tossed on!
Hi, Bry! I'm impressed with your courage. I read your previous comment and it did seem a little rough lol.
Hey so where does that hose on the bottom connect to? What is it?
I Feel like you should set the Ghost up just like the Tiltson and Re DYNO same fly wheel same carb
