they fly a lot when scared so they could get through your roof I would definitely put chicken wire over that, I know as I have Japanese quail (same as yours) and they can fly 6ft high which is the hight of my aviary. They don't roost like chickens they like to be in hides on the ground a lot so a few hides is a must in each corner, they need a sand area or dust for baths which mine have every day, they need around a 28% protein feed in a crumb or micro pellet form because of how small they are and other than that I think they're fun to keep. also, that's the boys crowing and making all the noise sounds like there will be quite a few catch clean cooks from the males I hear haha. also your right about the mealworms they love them.

Quail are awesome! They lay everyday as long as you keep them warm, they will lay one egg a day per bird. We have quail and pheasant. The quail lay in the morning and pheasant lay late after noon. You’re gonna have more eggs than you’ll know what to do with. If you take and pickle them they are really rich and perfect beer drinking snacks.

So here’s just some info on quail the males can be pretty aggressive to each other just a heads up and how to tell a male from a female if there pharaohs which is like the brownish ones is females have a blank chest and the males have like stripes or checkers on there chest and in my opinion you kind of have to deal with a lot of poop you don’t really have to worry about the quail in the cold also they can fly in short burst up to 40 feet in the air and I suggest cutting there wings or just being careful cause I had one of mine fly into a roof and break it’s neck and die so aaaa yeah just be careful I guess they like to bathe in sand and stuff most of yours are pharaoh courtonix quails the white and brown ones are tuxedo quail and I think that call there all doing means there male so yeah
We hunt them back in Malta (tiny island in the Mediterranean). We also raise quails back at home plus their eggs are very good to eat. Boil the quail eggs and put them into a jar full of white vinegar. Leave the eggs for one or two weeks in the jar. They're amazing.

You might want to put the quails crates up on blocks because if it rains all the run off water and mud is going to go into their crates. They can jump up inside of the crates if you put them up on some 2x4 ‘s. If the birds any start to peck on a bird then they need to be separated until the bird gets better and it’s wounds are healed and feathers grow. If our turkey’s saw any sore, dark spot, or missing feathers on another turkey they would peck it to death. We had to have a separate cage for sick or injured birds. Im sure it’s the same with other birds.

Dude you have to cover with chicken wire that cattle panel roof to your “predator Proof” bird pen. A raccoon. A possum. A hawk. An owl will get right in there. Guaranteed! I raised ducks and quail. It’s real fun trying to get a hawk out of your pen. Promise you’ll lose your birds. And those quail will eventually fly out if you don’t cover that top!

At 15:12 the ducks were looking at a large bird of some sort in the sky. I work at a petting zoo and we have ducks here and they always look up like that when a hawk or owl fly over
Hey I would recommend that you make the gaps in the ceiling smaller because I’ve hawks and possum get in my enclosures that were of similar size. Also if you plan to have many eggs I would create a house on the ground similar to what you made for the ducks and turkeys because when quail get scared and can see something threatening like Millie they will flush. Flush means to fly up from the the ground really fast and they will literally break there necks when the hit the ceiling of your enclosure.

Slightly rednecked is a TH-cam channel from Joplin MO area. Chris is really knowledgeable and every Thursday evening he has a live Q&A. They prefer to lay eggs in the sand side of the quail hutch I built for them. I have one male to 4-5 females to get good egg fertility. I use half inch welded wire, and add enrichment like meal worms, tree bark, leafy branches and comfrey. When a quail flies, they go straight up. Better to have a front or side entry, instead of top entry.
You should use the boxes they came in for more nesting boxes.

The sound you heard quail make is a male quail rooster crowing. The quail don’t need nesting boxes they just lay eggs where ever they are. If you need any help just ask. If you want to have quail you should collect the eggs and put them in incubators because they just don’t lay on their own eggs and wait for them to hatch. If you need any help just ask.

This is just superb, been searching for "raising quail with chickens" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (do a search on google ) ? It is an awesome one off guide for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my friend got great success with it.

Flair another really cool thing to do with a bunch of there eggs is make deviled eggs out of them!! I made a bunch around Christmas time & took them to a Christmas party that we went to & every loved them!! We ended up making roughly 50 to 60 of them & everyone of them got eaten!! At first everyone was like what in the world are those things & how did you get so small of an egg!! Lots of others thought they had a more richer tast then regular chicken eggs!!! I would say that bob white eggs & bantam chicken eggs are by far my favorite eggs to eat!! Oh one more thing is that the shell on the quail eggs are much stronger & have a then layer of tissue under the shell that I think is called a membrain that is a little tougher to get cut threw then a regular chicken eggs!! If you look on line I would definitely recommend getting a quail egg cuter or a couple of them & it will make life a little easier on you when you go trying to break the eggs so you can eat them!! I’m just saying!! I think you will definitely like quail eggs though, I do anyways!!

I have had quail for 2 years now and just got chickens. Quail are very easy to raise. Keep them in a inclosed pen so they don’t fly away. Just feed them everyday. Also butchering them is easy and the meat is good.

Quails usually live in the woods-, I heard they need some shade to prevent overheating
also quail eggs are often targeted by rats - and rats can get through openings as small as half inch chicken wire you need 3/8 inch size or smaller
Also let them hatch some chicks so they get more over time, maybe even release some chicks lateron on the flair farm as smalll game animal- also they are pretty safe from predators if they dont get ambushed they can fly away and they are well camoflaged against air born predators -they fly not like chickens that make a 100 yard hop at best but like miles

I have raised both bob white quail & a bunch of courtnix quail!! The bob white quail by far were loved by a bunch of bird dog trainers that would buy the bob white quail that I had raised!! The qourtnix quail were a more lazy bird as far as not really wanting to fly as much as bob white quail did!! If I was to get more quail again it would definitely be more bob white quail!! You can definitely get your money back on them!!
