For the pond, there are landscaping companies that specialize in ponds. The good ones will hire a biologist and they can sent a consultant to get a lay of the land, give you suggestions and maximize the quality of the habitat for fish. So that's what I would suggest. Would be pricier and probably less video worthy than doing it on your own though so up to you.

That's not a bad thing. Flair is solid. I would recommend using the guy Flair used to fix his little pond. That guy is legit and he does all that stuff you were talking about. I think he's called the pond doctor. The guy is awesome!

I haven’t seen any actual pond advice comments so my two cents about making it bigger would be to put some shade trees and floating plants like Lilly pads or duckweed in the pond so the water won’t evaporate out as fast in the sun. If there’s any potential for a well on your property that could also be a great alternative to paying for water delivery or depending on rain. Been watching since 2016 super cool to see the progression.

Gonna get pretty darn hot in that metal barn in Texas, North of Ft. Worth... 105 in summer... 120 or so in the barn... yeah, Unless you do some insulation and some cooling you do not want to do a fish tank....Trust me...even with a chiller for the tank .... Gas stove is cool, as is gas heat and gas water heaters etc. Happy for you... Glad you're doing well.. all about the hustle. I had a horse apple tree at my elementary school in Dallas. >>>>>POND>>>> I'm thinking water hole for Dove. especially in Texas. Just thinking. Congrats. Plant so bushes on the west side of the pond so you can shoot to the east as they come in to water... Keep the east side clear and open.
Congrats John on the new digs.. word of advice.. before you get too much stuff in that barn, spray foam the roof and the walls.. Texas sun will make that place a serious oven in the summer.

The house is great... but I’m with you.. the barn is AWESOME!!!!!! If you live on acreage, a large barn is essential, and a center for nothing but good times!!!! Suggestion...insulate it for year round use.. either have them do blown in insulation which is quick and easy, or close off a large area and insulate that...I highly recommend the first insulation suggestion, I did that on my barn and turned it into a year round building!
Like your idea with the pond. I'd dig it out make it bigger maybe do another pond next to it with a joining stream with kinda like a marshland feel. Try different plants and structure. You have alot of room to work with. Congrats, house is amazing, pretty much my dream home/property.

New subscriber here. Some things to consider, get LED lights for the barn and an overhead fan. Plus you'll want to get a bunch of outlets for your work bench. Not sure how cold it gets in Texas but an option is to get some insulation. As for the pond, make sure it's at least 12 feet deep (the deeper the better) If it's not, wait till it dries out and have it excavated. Then spread a bunch of bentonite all over the bottom and sides and till it up. This will prevent water leakage.

It's just for ventilation for the upstairs/attic it could be a window but it's a door. I guess it's more cost efficient. A lot of older buildings have similar doors.

Insulate and sheetrock the whole garage and build a small room for PB mounts. The aquarium for game fish sounds amazing too so I would incorporate that as well. GG friends "Keep Expanding Never Stop"
Congrats man! You gotta expand that pond! Maybe add a feeder and grow some mondos! Make sure to make it deep for the winters and add some shape and structure!
Talk to some pond guys about deepening and enlarging that pond, put in a aerator or two. My uncle had a extra well he periodically would pump water from it into one of his ponds, I would put some shade trees around the pond as well. You can do a lot with 8 1/2 acres, just look at You Tubers Lumnah Acres, they have exactly 8 1/2 acres on their homestead, they are Flair's mentor for raising goats, he has an issue with animals he calls them.

Those hedge apple trees are called Osage Orange. They have are a beautiful hardwood that LFG and other woodworkers would love to get their hands on.

Jon. Rent an excavator or just buy a used one.. Note. You will need flats for beds for spawning..( Gradual banks ) but try to dig DEEP. deeper the water. the less moss on the bottom you will have. There are a thousand videos out there to show you how to make your pond bigger. Dig and stack everything you dig on the back side of banks. Note the deeper you go the more water you hold = you need to make sure your banks are thick enough to hold it. make sure you have some kind of overflow piping. Hope this helps. Congrats on the new home. You should make it 2x4 times bigger. Would be good content.

Here in Missouri we sell hedgeballs for $200 a ton.
They press them and the seed juice sells for over $100 per ounce for very expensive skin products.
And hedge wood is the best fence posts and very hot burning wood stove fuel.
Hedge trees are straight money.
Even though the North Texas winters aren't all that bad, you'll still want to protect your fruit trees. They'll be good until you get a late February early march warm spell that causes them to bloom and then you'll get a hard freeze that'll kill all your blooms. Sucks when you think you're gonna get a bunch of fruit and then it all gets ruined by our wacked out weather.

The best thing to do is design your ultimate backyard pond on paper and then get busy with a bulldozer. You can make a channel and some flats and humps, ridges, brushpiles, etc.
Yo Jon B A few things to think about before working on your pond. Is it a groundwater pond? What's your soil situation, is it sandy? If it's not groundwater and you've got sandy soils digging it out won't help as the water will literally leak through the ground - you'd need a liner or some bentonite. If the pond is just an exposed groundwater aquifer then you should be able to just dig it out more, depending on how dry it gets in summer. You could really do a lot with a good excavator operator.

Hedge apples... If you have spiders, bring the hedge apples indoors! Spider hate them.
You have enough space to enlarge the pond. Dig it deep enough you might hit a spring. Contact a pond contractor and they should be able tell ya what you need.
You might check into enlarging your Maine pond also. The old the pond is, the shallower it gets. Might just need a good dredge to make it deeper.
